1 Then came the sons of Israel the whole assembly, into the desert of Zin in the first month, and the people dwelt in Kadesh,and Miriam died there, and was buried there.
1 No primeiro mês do ano, toda a comunidade chegou ao deserto de Zim e acampou em Cades. Enquanto estavam lá, Miriã morreu e foi sepultada.
2 And there was no water for the assembly,so they gathered together against Moses and against Aaron.
2 Como não havia água naquele lugar, o povo se rebelou contra Moisés e Arão.
3 And the people contended with Moses,and spake saying, Would then we had died a when our brethren died, before Yahweh!
3 Discutiram com Moisés e disseram: “Se ao menos tivéssemos morrido com nossos irmãos diante do S enhor !
4 Wherefore then hast thou brought the convocation of Yahweh into this desert,to die there, we, and our cattle?
4 Por que vocês trouxeram a comunidade do S enhor até este deserto? Foi para morrermos, junto com todos os nossos animais?
5 And wherefore did ye cause us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us into this wretched place?not a place of seeds, and figs, and vines and pomegranates, even water, is there none to drink.
5 Por que nos obrigaram a sair do Egito e nos trouxeram para este lugar terrível? Esta terra não tem cereais, nem figos, nem uvas, nem romãs, nem água para beber!”.
6 And Moses and Aaron went in from the presence of the multitude unto the entrance of the tent of meeting, and fell upon their faces,and the glory of Yahweh appeared unto them.
6 Moisés e Arão se afastaram do povo e foram até a frente da tenda do encontro, onde se prostraram com o rosto em terra. Então a presença gloriosa do S enhor lhes apareceu,
7 Then spake Yahweh unto Moses, saying:
7 e o S enhor disse a Moisés:
8 Take the staff and gather together the assembly, thou, and Aaron thy brother, then shall ye speak unto the cliff before their eyes and it shall give forth it waters,so shalt thou bring forth unto them water, out of the cliff, and shalt cause the assembly, and their cattle to drink.
8 “Você e Arão, peguem a vara e reúnam todo o povo. Enquanto eles observam, falem àquela rocha ali, e dela jorrará água. Vocês tirarão água suficiente da rocha para matar a sede de toda a comunidade e de seus animais”.
9 And Moses took the staff from before Yahweh,as he commanded him.
9 Moisés fez conforme o S enhor havia ordenado. Pegou a vara que ficava guardada diante do S enhor e,
10 And Moses and Aaron gathered together the convocation before the cliff,and he said unto them: Hear I pray you ye rebels! Out of this cliff, must we bring forth for you water?
10 em seguida, ele e Arão mandaram chamar o povo para se reunir em frente da rocha. “Ouçam, seus rebeldes!”, gritou Moisés. “Será que é desta rocha que teremos de tirar água para vocês?”
11 And Moses lifted high his hand and smote the cliff with his staff, twice,and there came forth water in abundance, and the assembly and their cattle, did drink.
11 Então Moisés levantou a mão e bateu na rocha duas vezes com a vara, e jorrou muita água. Assim, toda a comunidade e todos os seus animais beberam até matar a sede.
12 Then said Yahweh unto Moses and unto Aaron, Because ye believed not in me, to hallow me in the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore, shall ye not bring in this convocation into the land which I have given unto them.
12 O S enhor , porém, disse a Moisés e a Arão: “Uma vez que vocês não confiaram em mim para mostrar minha santidade aos israelitas, não os conduzirão à terra que eu lhes dou!”.
13 The same, were the waters of Meribah that is "Contention" in that the sons of Israel contended with Yahweh,and so he hallowed himself among them.
13 Por isso aquele lugar ficou conhecido como Meribá, pois ali os israelitas discutiram com o S enhor , e ali ele mostrou sua santidade entre eles.
14 And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh, unto the king of Edom,Thus, saith thy brother Israel, Thou thyself, knowest all the distress which befell us;
14 Enquanto estava em Cades, Moisés enviou representantes ao rei de Edom com a seguinte mensagem: “É isto que dizem seus parentes, o povo de Israel: É de seu conhecimento todas as dificuldades que tivemos.
15 and how our fathers went down to Egypt, and we abode in Egypt, many days, rod that the Egyptians ill-treated us, and our fathers;
15 Nossos antepassados desceram ao Egito, onde vivemos por muito tempo. Ali, nós e nossos antepassados fomos maltratados pelos egípcios,
16 and we made outcry unto Yahweh, and he heard our voice, and sent a messenger, and brought us forth out of Egypt,lo! then, we, are in Kadesh, a city at the extremity of thy boundary,
16 mas, quando clamamos ao S enhor , ele nos ouviu e enviou um anjo que nos tirou do Egito. Agora estamos acampados em Cades, cidade na fronteira de seu território.
17 Let us, we pray thee, pass through thy landwe will not pass through field or vineyard, nor will we drink the waters of a well,by the kings road, will we gowe will turn neither to the right hand nor to the left, until we get through thy boundary.
17 Pedimos que nos deixe atravessar sua terra. Tomaremos cuidado para não passar por seus campos e vinhedos, e não beberemos água de seus poços. Seguiremos pela estrada real e só a deixaremos quando tivermos atravessado seu território”.
18 And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass through my land,lest with the sword, I come out to meet thee.
18 O rei de Edom, porém, disse: “Fiquem fora do meu território ou irei ao seu encontro com meu exército!”.
19 And the sons of Israel said unto himBy the highway, will we go up, and if thy waters, we should drinkI, and my cattle then would I give the price thereof,onlyit is nothing!with my feet, would I pass through.
19 Os israelitas responderam: “Ficaremos na estrada principal. Se nós ou nossos animais bebermos de sua água, pagaremos por ela. Apenas deixe-nos passar por seu território; é só o que pedimos”.
20 And he said, Thou shalt not pass through. And Edom came out to meet him, with a strong people, and with a firm hand.
20 O rei de Edom retrucou: “Vocês não têm permissão de passar por nossa terra!”. Em seguida, mobilizou suas tropas e marchou contra o povo de Israel com um exército poderoso.
21 Thus did Edom refuse to give Israel passage through his boundary,and Israel turned away from him.
21 Uma vez que o povo de Edom se recusou a deixá-los passar por seu território, os israelitas foram obrigados a desviar-se dele.
22 Then set they forward from Kadesh,and the sons of Israel. all the assembly, came in to Mount Hor.
22 Então toda a comunidade de Israel partiu de Cades e chegou ao monte Hor.
23 Then spake Yahweh unto Moses and unto Aaron in Mount Hor,near the boundary of the land of Edom saying:
23 Ali, na fronteira com a terra de Edom, o S enhor disse a Moisés e a Arão:
24 Aaron shall be withdrawn unto his kinsfolk, fur he shall not enter into the land. which I have given unto the sons of Israel,because ye spurned my bidding, at the waters of Meribah.
24 “É chegado o momento de Arão reunir-se a seus antepassados. Não entrará na terra que dou aos israelitas, pois vocês se rebelaram contra minhas instruções a respeito da água em Meribá.
25 Take thou Aaron, and Eleazar his son,and bring them up Mount Hor;
25 Agora, leve Arão e seu filho Eleazar ao monte Hor.
26 and strip thou Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son,and, Aaron, shall be withdrawn and shall lie there.
26 Em seguida, tire as roupas sacerdotais de Arão e coloque-as em Eleazar, seu filho. Arão morrerá ali e se reunirá a seus antepassados”.
27 And Moses did as Yahweh commanded,and they went up into, Mount Hor, in sight of all the assembly.
27 Moisés fez conforme o S enhor lhe ordenou. Os três subiram juntos ao monte Hor, enquanto toda a comunidade observava.
28 And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments and put them upon Eleazar his son, and Aaron died there, in the top of the mount,and Moses and Eleazar came down out of the mount.
28 No topo, Moisés tirou as roupas sacerdotais de Arão e as colocou em Eleazar, filho de Arão. Então Arão morreu no alto do monte, e Moisés e Eleazar desceram.
29 And all the assembly saw that Aaron was dead; and they bewailed Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
29 Quando a comunidade percebeu que Arão havia morrido, todo o povo de Israel lamentou sua morte por trinta dias.
