1 Then came the sons of Israel the whole assembly, into the desert of Zin in the first month, and the people dwelt in Kadesh,and Miriam died there, and was buried there.
1 No primeiro mês toda a comunidade de Israel chegou ao deserto de Zim e ficou em Cades. Ali Miriã morreu e foi sepultada.
2 And there was no water for the assembly,so they gathered together against Moses and against Aaron.
2 Não havia água para a comunidade, e o povo se juntou contra Moisés e contra Arão.
3 And the people contended with Moses,and spake saying, Would then we had died a when our brethren died, before Yahweh!
3 Discutiram com Moisés e disseram: "Quem dera tivéssemos morrido quando os nossos irmãos caíram mortos perante o Senhor!
4 Wherefore then hast thou brought the convocation of Yahweh into this desert,to die there, we, and our cattle?
4 Por que vocês trouxeram a assembléia do Senhor a este deserto, para que nós e os nossos rebanhos morrêssemos aqui?
5 And wherefore did ye cause us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us into this wretched place?not a place of seeds, and figs, and vines and pomegranates, even water, is there none to drink.
5 Por que vocês nos tiraram do Egito e nos trouxeram para este lugar terrível? Aqui não há cereal, nem figos, nem uvas, nem romãs, nem água para beber! "
6 And Moses and Aaron went in from the presence of the multitude unto the entrance of the tent of meeting, and fell upon their faces,and the glory of Yahweh appeared unto them.
6 Moisés e Arão saíram de diante da assembléia para a entrada da Tenda do Encontro e se prostraram, rosto em terra, e a glória do Senhor lhes apareceu.
7 Then spake Yahweh unto Moses, saying:
7 E o Senhor disse a Moisés:
8 Take the staff and gather together the assembly, thou, and Aaron thy brother, then shall ye speak unto the cliff before their eyes and it shall give forth it waters,so shalt thou bring forth unto them water, out of the cliff, and shalt cause the assembly, and their cattle to drink.
8 "Pegue a vara, e com o seu irmão Arão reúna a comunidade e diante desta fale àquela rocha, e ela verterá água. Vocês tirarão água da rocha para a comunidade e os rebanhos beberem".
9 And Moses took the staff from before Yahweh,as he commanded him.
9 Então Moisés pegou a vara que estava diante do Senhor, como este lhe havia ordenado.
10 And Moses and Aaron gathered together the convocation before the cliff,and he said unto them: Hear I pray you ye rebels! Out of this cliff, must we bring forth for you water?
10 Moisés e Arão reuniram a assembléia em frente da rocha, e Moisés disse: "Escutem, rebeldes, será que teremos que tirar água desta rocha para lhes dar? "
11 And Moses lifted high his hand and smote the cliff with his staff, twice,and there came forth water in abundance, and the assembly and their cattle, did drink.
11 Então Moisés ergueu o braço e bateu na rocha duas vezes com a vara. Jorrou água, e a comunidade e os rebanhos beberam.
12 Then said Yahweh unto Moses and unto Aaron, Because ye believed not in me, to hallow me in the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore, shall ye not bring in this convocation into the land which I have given unto them.
12 O Senhor, porém, disse a Moisés e a Arão: "Como vocês não confiaram em mim para honrar minha santidade à vista dos israelitas, vocês não conduzirão esta comunidade para a terra que lhes dou".
13 The same, were the waters of Meribah that is "Contention" in that the sons of Israel contended with Yahweh,and so he hallowed himself among them.
13 Essas foram as águas de Meribá, onde os israelitas discutiram com o Senhor e onde ele manifestou sua santidade entre eles.
14 And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh, unto the king of Edom,Thus, saith thy brother Israel, Thou thyself, knowest all the distress which befell us;
14 De Cades, Moisés enviou mensageiros ao rei de Edom, dizendo: "Assim diz o teu irmão Israel: Tu sabes de todas as dificuldades que vieram sobre nós.
15 and how our fathers went down to Egypt, and we abode in Egypt, many days, rod that the Egyptians ill-treated us, and our fathers;
15 Os nossos antepassados desceram para o Egito, e ali vivemos durante muitos anos. Os egípcios, porém, nos maltrataram, como também a eles,
16 and we made outcry unto Yahweh, and he heard our voice, and sent a messenger, and brought us forth out of Egypt,lo! then, we, are in Kadesh, a city at the extremity of thy boundary,
16 mas quando clamamos ao Senhor, ele ouviu o nosso clamor, enviou um anjo e nos tirou do Egito. "Agora estamos em Cades, cidade na fronteira do teu território.
17 Let us, we pray thee, pass through thy landwe will not pass through field or vineyard, nor will we drink the waters of a well,by the kings road, will we gowe will turn neither to the right hand nor to the left, until we get through thy boundary.
17 Deixa-nos atravessar a tua terra. Não passaremos por nenhuma plantação ou vinha, nem beberemos água de poço algum. Passaremos pela estrada do rei e não nos desviaremos nem para a direita nem para a esquerda, até que tenhamos atravessado o teu território".
18 And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass through my land,lest with the sword, I come out to meet thee.
18 Mas Edom respondeu: "Vocês não poderão passar por aqui; se tentarem, nós os atacaremos com a espada".
19 And the sons of Israel said unto himBy the highway, will we go up, and if thy waters, we should drinkI, and my cattle then would I give the price thereof,onlyit is nothing!with my feet, would I pass through.
19 E os israelitas disseram: "Iremos pela estrada principal; se nós e os nossos rebanhos bebermos de tua água, pagaremos por ela. Queremos apenas atravessar a pé, e nada mais".
20 And he said, Thou shalt not pass through. And Edom came out to meet him, with a strong people, and with a firm hand.
20 Mas Edom insistiu: "Vocês não poderão atravessar". Então Edom os atacou com um exército grande e poderoso.
21 Thus did Edom refuse to give Israel passage through his boundary,and Israel turned away from him.
21 Visto que Edom se recusou a deixá-los atravessar o seu território, Israel desviou-se dele.
22 Then set they forward from Kadesh,and the sons of Israel. all the assembly, came in to Mount Hor.
22 Toda a comunidade israelita partiu de Cades e chegou ao monte Hor.
23 Then spake Yahweh unto Moses and unto Aaron in Mount Hor,near the boundary of the land of Edom saying:
23 Naquele monte, perto da fronteira de Edom, o Senhor disse a Moisés e a Arão:
24 Aaron shall be withdrawn unto his kinsfolk, fur he shall not enter into the land. which I have given unto the sons of Israel,because ye spurned my bidding, at the waters of Meribah.
24 "Arão será reunido aos seus antepassados. Não entrará na terra que dou aos israelitas, porque vocês dois se rebelaram contra a minha ordem junto às águas de Meribá.
25 Take thou Aaron, and Eleazar his son,and bring them up Mount Hor;
25 Leve Arão e seu filho Eleazar para o alto do monte Hor.
26 and strip thou Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son,and, Aaron, shall be withdrawn and shall lie there.
26 Tire as vestes de Arão e coloque-as em seu filho Eleazar, pois Arão será reunido aos seus antepassados; ele morrerá ali".
27 And Moses did as Yahweh commanded,and they went up into, Mount Hor, in sight of all the assembly.
27 Moisés fez conforme o Senhor ordenou; subiram o monte Hor à vista de toda a comunidade.
28 And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments and put them upon Eleazar his son, and Aaron died there, in the top of the mount,and Moses and Eleazar came down out of the mount.
28 Moisés tirou as vestes de Arão e as colocou em seu filho Eleazar. E Arão morreu no alto do monte. Depois disso, Moisés e Eleazar desceram do monte,
29 And all the assembly saw that Aaron was dead; and they bewailed Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
29 e, quando toda a comunidade soube que Arão tinha morrido, toda a nação de Israel pranteou por ele durante trinta dias.
