1 Then did all the assembly lift up, and give forth their voice,and the people wept throughout that night.
1 Então toda a comunidade começou a chorar em voz alta e continuou em prantos a noite toda.
2 And all the sons of Israel, murmured against Moses and against Aaron,and all the assembly said unto themOh that we had died in the land of Egypt, Or in this wilderness, oh that we had died!
2 Suas vozes se elevaram em grande protesto contra Moisés e Arão. “Ah, se ao menos tivéssemos morrido no Egito, ou mesmo aqui no deserto!”, diziam.
3 Wherefore then is Yahweh bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and little ones, will become a prey! Would it not be well for us to go back towards Egypt?
3 “Por que o S enhor está nos levando para essa terra só para morrermos em combate? Nossas esposas e crianças serão capturadas como prisioneiros de guerra! Não seria melhor voltarmos para o Egito?”
4 And they said, one to another,Let us appoint a head and let us go back towards Egypt.
4 E disseram uns aos outros: “Vamos escolher um novo líder e voltar para o Egito!”.
5 Then did Moses and Aaron fall upon their faces,before all the convocation of the assembly of the sons of Israel.
5 Moisés e Arão se curvaram com o rosto em terra diante de toda a comunidade de Israel.
6 But, Joshua son of Nun, and Caleb son of Jephunneh, of them who spied out the land, rent their clothes;
6 Dois dos homens que tinham feito o reconhecimento da terra, Josué, filho de Num, e Calebe, filho de Jefoné, rasgaram suas roupas
7 and spake unto all the assembly of the sons of Israel, saying,As for the land through which we passed to spy it out, Good, is the land, exceedingly,
7 e disseram a toda a comunidade de Israel: “A terra da qual fizemos o reconhecimento é muito boa!
8 If Yahweh delight in us, then will he bring us into this and, and give it unto us,A land which doth flow with milk and honey.
8 E, se o S enhor se agradar de nós, ele nos levará em segurança até ela e a dará a nós. É uma terra que produz leite e mel com fartura.
9 Only against Yahweh, do not rebel. Do not, ye, fear the people of the land, For our food, they are,Their shade hath departed, from over them. And Yahweh is with us, Do not fear them!
9 Não se rebelem contra o S enhor e não tenham medo dos povos da terra. Diante de nós, eles estão indefesos! Não têm quem os proteja, mas o S enhor está conosco! Não tenham medo deles!”.
10 But when all the assembly bade stone them with stones, the glory of Yahweh, appeared, in the tent of meeting, unto all the sons of Israel.
10 Ainda assim, toda a comunidade começou a falar em apedrejar Josué e Calebe. Então a presença gloriosa do S enhor apareceu na tenda do encontro a todos os israelitas,
11 Then said Yahweh unto How long! must this people, despise me? And how long can they not believe in me. in view of all the signs which I have done in their midst?
11 e o S enhor disse a Moisés: “Até quando este povo me tratará com desprezo? Será que nunca confiarão em mim, mesmo depois de todos os sinais que realizei entre eles?
12 Let me smite them with pestilence, and disinherit them,And make thee into a nation greater and more mighty than they!
12 Eu os deserdarei e os destruirei com uma praga. Então, farei de você um povo ainda maior e mais poderoso que eles!”.
13 Then said Moses unto Yahweh,So shall the Egyptians hear, For thou hast brought up. in thy might, this people out of their midst;
13 Moisés, porém, respondeu ao S enhor : “O que os egípcios pensarão? Eles sabem muito bem do poder que mostraste ao resgatar o teu povo do meio deles.
14 And will tell it unto the inhabitants of this land: They have heard, That, thou, Yahweh, art in the midst of this people,That eye to eye, is he seenthou, Yahweh, And thy cloud, is standing over them, And in a pillar of cloud, thou thyself, art going on before them by day, And in a pillar of fire, by night.
14 Os egípcios informarão isso aos habitantes dessa terra, que já ouviram falar que vives entre o teu povo. Sabem, S enhor , que apareces ao teu povo face a face e que a tua nuvem permanece sobre ele e que vais adiante dele na coluna de nuvem de dia e na coluna de fogo à noite.
15 As soon, therefore, as thou hast put to death this people as one man, so soon will the nations who have heard thy fame speak saying:
15 Se exterminares todo este povo com um só golpe, as nações que ouviram falar de tua fama dirão:
16 Because Yahweh, was not able, to bring in this people into the land which he had sworn unto them, therefore did he slay them in the desert.
16 ‘O S enhor não foi capaz de levá-los à terra que jurou lhes dar, por isso os matou no deserto’.
17 Now, therefore, I beseech thee let the might of My Lord, be magnified,according as thou didst speak saying:
17 “Por favor, Senhor, mostra que o teu poder é tão grande quanto declaraste. Pois disseste:
18 Yahwehslow to anger and great in lovingkindness, Forgiving iniquity and transgression: Though he will not leave, wholly unpunished, Visiting the iniquity of fathers upon sons, Upon a third generation, and upon a fourth.
18 ‘O S enhor é lento para se irar, é cheio de amor e perdoa todo tipo de pecado e rebeldia. Contudo, não absolve o culpado; traz as consequências do pecado dos pais sobre os filhos até a terceira e quarta geração’.
19 Pardon I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people, According to the greatness of thy lovingkindness,And according as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even thus far.
19 De acordo com o teu grande amor, peço que perdoes os pecados deste povo, como os tens perdoado desde que saíram do Egito”.
20 And Yahweh said, I have pardoned according to thy word;
20 Então o S enhor disse: “Eu os perdoarei, como você me pediu.
21 Nevertheless as I live,and that all the earth may be filled with the glory of Yahweh,
21 Mas, tão certo quanto eu vivo e tão certo quanto a terra está cheia da glória do S enhor ,
22 Verily, none of the men who have been beholding my glory and my signs, which I have done in Egypt and in the desert,and have put me to the proof these ten times, and have not hearkened unto my voice,
22 nenhuma dessas pessoas entrará na terra. Todas elas viram a minha presença gloriosa e os sinais que realizei no Egito e no deserto. Repetidamente, porém, me puseram à prova, recusando-se a ouvir a minha voz.
23 shall see the land, which I sware to their fathers,yea, none of my despisers, shall see it.
23 Jamais verão a terra que jurei dar a seus antepassados. Nenhum daqueles que me trataram com desprezo a verá.
24 But my servant Calebbecause there was another spirit with him, and he followed me fully, therefore will I bring him into the land whereinto he entered, and his seed, shall possess it.
24 Meu servo Calebe, no entanto, teve uma atitude diferente dos demais. Permaneceu fiel a mim, por isso eu o farei entrar na terra da qual fez o reconhecimento, e seus descendentes tomarão posse dela.
25 Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites, are dwelling in the valley,to-morrow, turn ye away; and set yourselves forward towards the desert by the way of the Red Sea.
25 Agora, deem meia-volta e não sigam rumo à terra onde habitam os amalequitas e cananeus. Amanhã partirão para o deserto, em direção ao mar Vermelho”.
26 Then spake Yahweh unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying:
26 Então o S enhor disse a Moisés e a Arão:
27 How long, as regardeth this evil assembly, re they to be murmuring against me? The murmuring of the sons of Israel which, they, have been murmuring against me, have I heard,
27 “Até quando precisarei tolerar esta comunidade perversa e suas queixas contra mim? Sim, ouvi as queixas dos israelitas contra mim.
28 Say unto them: As I live, is the oracle of Yahweh: Surely as ye have spoken in mine ears, so, will I do unto you:
28 Agora, digam-lhes o seguinte: ‘Tão certo quanto eu vivo, declara o S enhor , farei com vocês exatamente aquilo que os ouvi dizerem.
29 In this desert, shall your dead bodies fall And none of you who were numbered in all your counting, from twenty years old and upwards,who have murmured against me,
29 Todos vocês cairão mortos neste deserto! Uma vez que se queixaram contra mim, todos com mais de 20 anos que foram contados no censo morrerão.
30 none of you, shall enter into the land, as to which I uplifted my hand to give you an abode therein,save Caleb son of Jephunneh, and Joshua, son of Nun:
30 Não entrarão nem tomarão posse da terra que eu jurei lhes dar, para que nela morassem. As únicas exceções serão Calebe, filho de Jefoné, e Josué, filho de Num.
31 whereas, your little ones, of whom ye said, they should become, a prey, I will bring them in, and they shall acknowledge the land which ye refused.
31 “‘Vocês disseram que seus filhos seriam tomados como prisioneiros de guerra. Pois bem, eu os farei entrar na terra em segurança, e eles desfrutarão daquilo que vocês desprezaram.
32 But, your own dead bodies, shall fall in this desert;
32 Mas, quanto a vocês, cairão mortos neste deserto.
33 and your sons, shall be shepherds in the desert forty years, and shall bear your unchastities,until your dead bodies are consumed in the desert.
33 Seus filhos serão como pastores, andando sem rumo pelo deserto durante quarenta anos. Desse modo, sofrerão a consequência de sua infidelidade, até que o último de vocês morra no deserto.
34 By the number of the days wherein ye spied out the landforty days, each day for a year, shall they bear your iniquitiesforty years,so shall ye know my opposition.
34 “‘Uma vez que seus espiões passaram quarenta dias fazendo o reconhecimento da terra, vocês andarão sem rumo pelo deserto durante quarenta anos, um ano para cada dia, como punição por sua culpa. Assim, saberão o resultado de se opor a mim’.
35 IYahweh, have spoken, Verily this, will I do to all this evil assembly, who have conspired against me,In this desert, shall they be consumed And there, shall they die.
35 Eu, o S enhor , falei! Certamente farei essas coisas a todos os membros da comunidade que conspiraram contra mim. Serão destruídos neste deserto, e aqui morrerão!”.
36 Now as for the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land,who returned and caused all the assembly to murmur against him by giving out rumour against the land,
36 Os homens que Moisés tinha enviado para fazer o reconhecimento da terra, aqueles que instigaram a rebelião contra ele com seu relatório negativo,
37 they diedthe men who gave out an evil rumor of the land,by the plague, before Yahweh.
37 morreram repentinamente de uma praga diante do S enhor .
38 But, Joshua son of Nun, and Caleb son of Jephunneh! remained aliveof those men who went to spy out the land.
38 Dos homens que haviam feito o reconhecimento da terra, apenas Josué e Calebe sobreviveram.
39 And Moses spake these words unto all the sons of Israel, and the people were greatly depressed.
39 Quando Moisés transmitiu essas palavras aos israelitas, eles se encheram de tristeza.
40 So they arose early in the morning, and went up into the top of the mountain, saying,We are heretherefore will we go up into the place as to which Yahweh hath said that we have sinned.
40 No dia seguinte, levantaram-se cedo e subiram em direção ao alto dos montes. “Vamos!”, disseram. “Reconhecemos que pecamos, mas agora estamos prontos para entrar na terra que o S enhor nos prometeu.”
41 But Moses said, Wherefore is it that, ye, are going beyond the bidding of Yahweh,since that cannot prosper?
41 Moisés, porém, disse: “Por que desobedecem à ordem do S enhor ? Isso não dará certo!
42 Do not go up, For Yahweh is not in your midst,Lest ye be smitten down before your enemies.
42 Não subam para a terra agora, pois o S enhor não estará com vocês. Seus inimigos os aniquilarão!
43 For, the Amalekites and the Canaanites, are there before you, So shall ye fall by the sword,For inasmuch as ye have turned back from following Yahweh, Therefore will Yahweh not be with you.
43 Quando enfrentarem os amalequitas e cananeus na batalha, serão massacrados. Porque vocês abandonaram o S enhor , ele os abandonará”.
44 But they presumptuously ascended into the top of the mountain,though, neither, the ark of the covenant of Yahweh nor Mosses moved out of the midst of the camp.
44 Arrogantemente, os israelitas avançaram até o alto dos montes, apesar de Moisés e a arca da aliança do S enhor terem ficado no acampamento.
45 So ten the Amalekites and the Canaanites, that dwelt in that mountain, came down,and smote them and routed them even unto Hormah.
45 Então os amalequitas e cananeus que viviam naqueles montes desceram, derrotaram os israelitas e os perseguiram até Hormá.
