Izhar|strong="H3324" was|strong="H1121" the|strong="H3947" son|strong="H1121" of|strong="H1121" Kohath|strong="H6955", and|strong="H1121" Kohath|strong="H6955" was|strong="H1121" the|strong="H3947" son|strong="H1121" of|strong="H1121" Levi|strong="H3878". Dathan|strong="H1885" and|strong="H1121" Abiram|strong="H0048" were|strong="H1121" brothers, the|strong="H3947" sons|strong="H1121" of|strong="H1121" Eliab|strong="H0446". 2 These four men|strong="H0376" gathered 250 other|strong="H0376" men|strong="H0376" from|strong="H0376" Israel|strong="H3478" together and|strong="H1121" came|strong="H0376" against|strong="H6440" Moses|strong="H4872". They|strong="H0376" were|strong="H3478" leaders|strong="H5387" who|strong="H0376" had|strong="H3478" been chosen|strong="H7148" by|strong="H3478" the|strong="H6440" people|strong="H0376". All|strong="H0376" the|strong="H6440" people|strong="H0376" knew them|strong="H6440".

4 When|strong="H8085" Moses|strong="H4872" heard|strong="H8085" this, he|strong="H5921" bowed|strong="H5307" his|strong="H5921" face|strong="H6440" to|strong="H5921" the|strong="H6440" ground to|strong="H5921" show|strong="H8085" he|strong="H5921" was|strong="H4872" not being proud.

Then|strong="H1961" bring|strong="H5414" those|strong="H0834" pans before|strong="H6440" the|strong="H6440" LORD|strong="H3068". 8 Moses|strong="H4872" also|strong="H4872" said|strong="H0559" to|strong="H0413" Korah|strong="H7141", “You|strong="H0413" Levites|strong="H3878", listen|strong="H8085" to|strong="H0413" me|strong="H0413".
9 You|strong="H3588" should|strong="H3068" be|strong="H3478" happy that|strong="H3588" the|strong="H0853" God|strong="H0430" of|strong="H0430" Israel|strong="H3478" chose you|strong="H3588" to|strong="H0413" be|strong="H3478" different from|strong="H4480" the|strong="H0853" rest of|strong="H0430" the|strong="H0853" Israelites|strong="H3478". 10 He|strong="H0853" brought|strong="H7126" you|strong="H3605" Levites|strong="H3878" near|strong="H7126" to|strong="H1245" him|strong="H0853" to|strong="H1245" help the|strong="H3605" priests, but|strong="H1571" now|strong="H1571" you|strong="H3605" are|strong="H1121" trying to|strong="H1245" become priests also|strong="H1571".
11 You|strong="H0859" and|strong="H3068" your|strong="H3068" followers have|strong="H0859" joined together|strong="H3259" and|strong="H3068" turned against|strong="H5921" the|strong="H3605" LORD|strong="H3068"! No|strong="H3605", so|strong="H3651" why|strong="H4100" are|strong="H4100" you|strong="H0859" complaining against|strong="H5921" Aaron|strong="H0175"?”
12 Then|strong="H7971" Moses|strong="H4872" called|strong="H7121" Dathan|strong="H1885" and|strong="H1121" Abiram|strong="H0048", the|strong="H0559" sons|strong="H1121" of|strong="H1121" Eliab|strong="H0446". But|strong="H3808" the|strong="H0559" two|strong="H3808" men|strong="H1121" said|strong="H0559", “We will|strong="H1121" not|strong="H3808" come|strong="H5927"!
13 You|strong="H3588" have|strong="H1571" brought|strong="H5927" us|strong="H5921" out|strong="H5921" of|strong="H0776" a|strong="H3588" land|strong="H0776" filled with|strong="H2100" many good things. He|strong="H3068" said|strong="H0559" to|strong="H0413" the|strong="H0853" LORD|strong="H3068", “I|strong="H0259" never|strong="H3808" did|strong="H3808" anything|strong="H1992" wrong|strong="H7489" to|strong="H0413" these|strong="H1992" people|strong="H3808". I|strong="H0259" never|strong="H3808" took|strong="H5375" anything|strong="H1992" from|strong="H0413" them|strong="H0413"—not|strong="H3808" even|strong="H3808" a|strong="H5375" donkey|strong="H2543"! Don’t|strong="H0408" accept their|strong="H3068" gifts|strong="H4503"!”
16 Then|strong="H1961" Moses|strong="H4872" said|strong="H0559" to|strong="H0413" Korah|strong="H7141", “You|strong="H0859" and|strong="H3068" all|strong="H3605" your|strong="H3068" followers will|strong="H3068" stand before|strong="H6440" the|strong="H3605" LORD|strong="H3068" tomorrow|strong="H4279". Aaron|strong="H0175" will|strong="H3068" also|strong="H3068" be|strong="H1961" there|strong="H1961" with|strong="H0413" you|strong="H0859" and|strong="H3068" your|strong="H3068" followers.
17 Each|strong="H0376" of|strong="H0376" you|strong="H0859" must|strong="H3947" bring|strong="H7126" a|strong="H3947" pan|strong="H5414", put|strong="H5414" incense|strong="H7004" in|strong="H5921" it|strong="H5414", and|strong="H3068" present|strong="H7126" it|strong="H5414" to|strong="H5921" the|strong="H6440" LORD|strong="H3068". There|strong="H3068" will|strong="H3068" be|strong="H0376" 250 pans for|strong="H5921" the|strong="H6440" leaders and|strong="H3068" one|strong="H0376" pan|strong="H5414" for|strong="H5921" you|strong="H0859" and|strong="H3068" one|strong="H0376" pan|strong="H5414" for|strong="H5921" Aaron|strong="H0175".”
18 So|strong="H3947" each|strong="H0376" man|strong="H0376" got|strong="H3947" a|strong="H3947" pan|strong="H5414" and|strong="H4872" put|strong="H5414" burning|strong="H0784" incense|strong="H7004" in|strong="H5921" it|strong="H7760". Then|strong="H3947" they|strong="H5921" stood|strong="H5975" at|strong="H5921" the|strong="H5921" entrance|strong="H6607" of|strong="H0376" the|strong="H5921" Meeting|strong="H4150" Tent|strong="H0168". Moses|strong="H4872" and|strong="H4872" Aaron|strong="H0175" also|strong="H4872" stood|strong="H5975" there|strong="H5975".
19 Korah|strong="H7141" also|strong="H3068" gathered|strong="H6950" all|strong="H3605" the|strong="H3605" people|strong="H7200" together|strong="H5921" at|strong="H0413" the|strong="H3605" entrance|strong="H6607" of|strong="H3068" the|strong="H3605" Meeting|strong="H4150" Tent|strong="H0168". Then|strong="H0853" the|strong="H3605" Glory|strong="H3519" of|strong="H3068" the|strong="H3605" LORD|strong="H3068" appeared|strong="H7200" to|strong="H0413" everyone|strong="H3605" there|strong="H3068".
20 The|strong="H0559" LORD|strong="H3068" said|strong="H0559" to|strong="H0413" Moses|strong="H4872" and|strong="H3068" Aaron|strong="H0175",
21 “Move away|strong="H3615" from|strong="H8432" these|strong="H2063" men! I|strong="H7281" want to|strong="H0914" destroy|strong="H3615" them|strong="H0853" now!”
22 But|strong="H0376" Moses|strong="H0559" and|strong="H0430" Aaron bowed|strong="H5307" to|strong="H0559" the|strong="H3605" ground and|strong="H0430" cried out|strong="H6440", “God|strong="H0430", you|strong="H3605" know what|strong="H5921" people|strong="H0376" are|strong="H0376" thinking|strong="H0559". Please don’t be|strong="H0376" angry|strong="H7107" with|strong="H5921" all|strong="H3605" these|strong="H3605" people|strong="H0376". Only|strong="H0259" one|strong="H0259" man|strong="H0376" really|strong="H0559" sinned|strong="H2398".”
23 Then|strong="H1696" the|strong="H0559" LORD|strong="H3068" said|strong="H0559" to|strong="H0413" Moses|strong="H4872",
24 “Tell|strong="H0559" the|strong="H0559" people|strong="H1696" to|strong="H0413" move away|strong="H5927" from|strong="H0413" the|strong="H0559" tents|strong="H4908" of|strong="H5712" Korah|strong="H7141", Dathan|strong="H1885", and|strong="H1696" Abiram|strong="H0048".”
25 Moses|strong="H4872" stood|strong="H6965" and|strong="H6965" went|strong="H6965" to|strong="H0413" Dathan|strong="H1885" and|strong="H6965" Abiram|strong="H0048". All|strong="H0310" the|strong="H0413" elders|strong="H2205" of|strong="H2205" Israel|strong="H3478" followed|strong="H0310" him|strong="H0413".
26 Moses|strong="H0559" warned|strong="H0559" the|strong="H3605" people|strong="H0376", “Move|strong="H5493" away|strong="H5493" from|strong="H5493" the|strong="H3605" tents|strong="H0168" of|strong="H0376" these|strong="H0428" evil|strong="H7563" men|strong="H0376". Don’t|strong="H0408" touch|strong="H5060" anything|strong="H3605" that|strong="H0834" belongs to|strong="H0413" them|strong="H0413"! If|strong="H0834" you|strong="H0834" do|strong="H0408", you|strong="H0834" will|strong="H0834" be|strong="H0408" destroyed because|strong="H5921" of|strong="H0376" their|strong="H3605" sins|strong="H2403".”
27 So|strong="H5927" the|strong="H5921" men|strong="H1121" moved|strong="H3318" away|strong="H5927" from|strong="H3318" the|strong="H5921" tents|strong="H0168" of|strong="H1121" Korah|strong="H7141", Dathan|strong="H1885", and|strong="H1121" Abiram|strong="H0048". Dathan|strong="H1885" and|strong="H1121" Abiram|strong="H0048" went|strong="H3318" to|strong="H5921" their|strong="H5921" tents|strong="H0168". They|strong="H5921" stood|strong="H5324" outside|strong="H3318" of|strong="H1121" their|strong="H5921" tents|strong="H0168" with|strong="H5921" their|strong="H5921" wives|strong="H0802", children|strong="H1121", and|strong="H1121" little|strong="H2945" babies|strong="H0802".
28 Then|strong="H0853" Moses|strong="H4872" said|strong="H0559", “I|strong="H3588" will|strong="H3068" show|strong="H3045" you|strong="H3588" proof that|strong="H3588" the|strong="H3605" LORD|strong="H3068" sent|strong="H7971" me|strong="H7971" to|strong="H0559" do|strong="H6213" all|strong="H3605" the|strong="H3605" things|strong="H0428" I|strong="H3588" told|strong="H0559" you|strong="H3588". I|strong="H3588" will|strong="H3068" show|strong="H3045" you|strong="H3588" that|strong="H3588" all|strong="H3605" these|strong="H0428" things|strong="H0428" were|strong="H0428" not|strong="H3808" my|strong="H3605" own idea.
29 These|strong="H0428" men|strong="H0120" will|strong="H3068" die|strong="H4191", but|strong="H0518" if|strong="H0518" they|strong="H0518" die|strong="H4191" in|strong="H5921" a|strong="H0518" normal way|strong="H3605"—the|strong="H3605" way|strong="H3605" people|strong="H0120" always die|strong="H4191"—then|strong="H7971" that|strong="H3605" will|strong="H3068" show that|strong="H3605" the|strong="H3605" LORD|strong="H3068" did|strong="H3808" not|strong="H3808" really send|strong="H7971" me|strong="H7971".
30 But|strong="H3588" if|strong="H0518" the|strong="H3605" LORD|strong="H3068" causes them|strong="H0853" to|strong="H3381" die in|strong="H3068" a|strong="H3588" different way|strong="H3605", then|strong="H0853" you|strong="H0834" will|strong="H3068" know|strong="H3045" that|strong="H0834" these|strong="H0428" men|strong="H0376" have|strong="H0834" sinned against|strong="H0376" the|strong="H3605" LORD|strong="H3068". This|strong="H0428" is|strong="H0834" the|strong="H3605" proof: The|strong="H3605" earth|strong="H0127" will|strong="H3068" open|strong="H6475" and|strong="H3068" swallow|strong="H1104" them|strong="H0853". They|strong="H0834" will|strong="H3068" go|strong="H3381" down|strong="H3381" to|strong="H3381" their|strong="H3605" grave still alive|strong="H2416". And|strong="H3068" everything|strong="H3605" that|strong="H0834" belongs to|strong="H3381" these|strong="H0428" men|strong="H0376" will|strong="H3068" go|strong="H3381" down|strong="H3381" with|strong="H3068" them|strong="H0853".”
31 When|strong="H1961" Moses finished|strong="H3615" saying|strong="H1697" these|strong="H0428" things|strong="H1697", the|strong="H3605" ground|strong="H0127" under|strong="H8478" the|strong="H3605" men|strong="H3605" opened.
32 It|strong="H0834" was|strong="H0834" as|strong="H0834" if|strong="H0834" the|strong="H3605" earth|strong="H0776" opened|strong="H6605" its|strong="H3605" mouth|strong="H6310" and|strong="H0776" swallowed|strong="H1104" them|strong="H0853". All|strong="H3605" of|strong="H0776" Korah’s|strong="H7141" men|strong="H0120", their|strong="H3605" families|strong="H1004", and|strong="H0776" everything|strong="H3605" they|strong="H0834" owned went|strong="H1004" down into|strong="H0776" the|strong="H3605" earth|strong="H0776".
33 They|strong="H1992" went|strong="H3381" down|strong="H3381" into|strong="H8432" their|strong="H3605" grave alive|strong="H2416". Everything|strong="H3605" they|strong="H1992" owned went|strong="H3381" with|strong="H5921" them|strong="H1992". Then|strong="H3381" the|strong="H3605" earth|strong="H0776" closed|strong="H3680" over|strong="H5921" them|strong="H1992". They|strong="H1992" were|strong="H0834" finished—gone|strong="H3381" from|strong="H5921" the|strong="H3605" camp!
34 The|strong="H3605" Israelites|strong="H3478" heard|strong="H6963" the|strong="H3605" cries|strong="H6963" of|strong="H0776" the|strong="H3605" men|strong="H3605" being destroyed|strong="H1104". So|strong="H6435" they|strong="H0834" all|strong="H3605" ran|strong="H5127" in|strong="H0776" different directions and|strong="H3478" said|strong="H0559", “The|strong="H3605" earth|strong="H0776" will|strong="H0776" swallow|strong="H1104" us|strong="H3588" too!”
35 Then|strong="H3318" a|strong="H7126" fire|strong="H0784" came|strong="H3318" from|strong="H3318" the|strong="H0853" LORD|strong="H3068" and|strong="H3068" destroyed|strong="H0398" the|strong="H0853" 250 men|strong="H0376" who|strong="H0376" were|strong="H0376" offering|strong="H7126" the|strong="H0853" incense|strong="H7004".
36 The LORD said to Moses,
39 So Eleazar the priest gathered together all the bronze pans that the men had brought. These men were all burned up, but the pans were still there. Then Eleazar told some men to hammer the pans into flat metal. Then he put the metal sheets on the altar.
40 He did this the way the LORD commanded him through Moses. This was a sign to help the Israelites remember that only someone from the family of Aaron should burn incense before the LORD. Any other person who burns incense before the Lord will die like Korah and his followers.
41 The next day all the Israelites complained against Moses and Aaron. They said, “You killed the LORD’S people.”
42 Moses and Aaron were standing at the entrance of the Meeting Tent. The people gathered together at that place to complain against Moses and Aaron. But when they looked toward the Meeting Tent, the cloud covered it and the Glory of the LORD appeared there.
43 Then Moses and Aaron went to the front of the Meeting Tent.
44 The LORD said to Moses,
45 “Move away from these people so that I can destroy them now.” So Moses and Aaron bowed with their faces to the ground.
46 Then Moses said to Aaron, “Get your bronze pan and some fire from the altar. Then put incense in it. Hurry to the people and do the things that will make them pure. The LORD is angry with them. The trouble has already started.”
49 But 14,700 people died from that sickness—and that is not counting the people who died because of Korah.
50 So the terrible sickness was stopped, and Aaron went back to Moses at the entrance of the Meeting Tent.
