1 And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying,
1 E falou o SENHOR a Moisés, dizendo:
2 Send thou out some men that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: one man each of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send, every one who is a prince among them.
2 Envia homens que espiem a terra de Canaã, que eu hei de dar aos filhos de Israel; de cada tribo de seus pais enviareis um homem, sendo cada um príncipe entre eles.
3 And Moses sent them out from the wilderness of Paran by the order of the Lord: they all were men, who were heads of the children of Israel.
3 E enviou-os Moisés do deserto de Parã, segundo a ordem do Senhor; todos aqueles homens eram cabeças dos filhos de Israel.
4 And these are their names: Of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.
4 E estes são os seus nomes: Da tribo de Rúben, Samua, filho de Zacur;
5 Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Chori.
5 Da tribo de Simeão, Safate, filho de Hori;
6 Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Yephunneh.
6 Da tribo de Judá, Calebe, filho de Jefoné;
7 Of the tribe of Issachar, Yigal the son of Joseph.
7 Da tribo de Issacar, Jigeal, filho de José;
8 Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea, the son of Nun.
8 Da tribo de Efraim, Oséias, filho de Num;
9 Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.
9 Da tribo de Benjamim, Palti, filho de Rafu;
10 Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.
10 Da tribo de Zebulom, Gadiel, filho de Sodi;
11 Of the tribe of Joseph, of the tribe of Menasseh, Gaddi the son of Sussi.
11 Da tribo de José, pela tribo de Manassés, Gadi filho de Susi;
12 Of the tribe of Dan, ‘Ammiel the son of Gemalli.
12 Da tribo de Dã, Amiel, filho de Gemali;
13 Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.
13 Da tribo de Aser, Setur, filho de Micael;
14 Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nachbi the son of Vophsi.
14 Da tribo de Naftali, Nabi, filho de Vofsi;
15 Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.
15 Da tribo de Gade, Geuel, filho de Maqui.
16 These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land; and Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun, Joshua Yehoshua’.
16 Estes são os nomes dos homens que Moisés enviou a espiar aquela terra; e a Oséias, filho de Num, Moisés chamou Josué.
17 And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and he said unto them, Go you up this way at the south side, and go up into the mountain;
17 Enviou-os, pois, Moisés a espiar a terra de Canaã; e disse-lhes: Subi por aqui para o lado do sul, e subi à montanha:
18 And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwell therein, whether they be strong or weak, whether they be few or many;
18 E vede que terra é, e o povo que nela habita; se é forte ou fraco; se pouco ou muito.
19 And what the land is on which they dwell, whether it be good or bad; and what the cities are in which they dwell, whether in open places, or in strongholds;
19 E como é a terra em que habita, se boa ou má; e quais são as cidades em que eles habitam; se em arraiais, ou em fortalezas.
20 And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be trees therein, or not; and take ye courage, and take away some of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the season of the first ripening of grapes.
20 Também como é a terra, se fértil ou estéril; se nela há árvores, ou não; e esforçai-vos, e tomai do fruto da terra. E eram aqueles dias os dias das primícias das uvas.
21 And they went up, and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rechob, on the road to Chamath.
21 Assim subiram e espiaram a terra desde o deserto de Zim, até Reobe, à entrada de Hamate.
22 And they ascended on the south side, and came unto Hebron; and there were Achiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of ‘Anak; now Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.
22 E subiram para o lado do sul, e vieram até Hebrom; e estavam ali Aimã, Sesai e Talmai, filhos de Anaque (Hebrom foi edificada sete anos antes de Zoã no Egito).
23 And they came unto the valley of Eshcol, and they cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bore it upon a barrow between two; and they took some of the pomegranates and of the figs.
23 Depois foram até ao vale de Escol, e dali cortaram um ramo de vide com um cacho de uvas, o qual trouxeram dois homens, sobre uma vara; como também das romãs e dos figos.
24 That place was called the valley of Eshcol, on account of the cluster which the children of Israel cut down from there.
24 Chamaram àquele lugar o vale de Escol, por causa do cacho que dali cortaram os filhos de Israel.
25 And they returned from spying out the land at the end of forty days.
25 E eles voltaram de espiar a terra, ao fim de quarenta dias.
26 And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and they brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.
26 E caminharam, e vieram a Moisés e a Arão, e a toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel no deserto de Parã, em Cades; e deram-lhes notícias, a eles, e a toda a congregação, e mostraram-lhes o fruto da terra.
27 And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou didst send us, and truly doth it flow with milk and honey; and this is its fruit.
27 E contaram-lhe, e disseram: Fomos à terra a que nos enviaste; e verdadeiramente mana leite e mel, e este é o seu fruto.
28 Nevertheless the people are strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are very strongly walled, and great; and the children of ‘Anak also have we seen there.
28 O povo, porém, que habita nessa terra é poderoso, e as cidades fortificadas e mui grandes; e também ali vimos os filhos de Anaque.
29 The Amalekites dwell in the southern country; and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Emorites, dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the margin of the Jordan.
29 Os amalequitas habitam na terra do sul; e os heteus, e os jebuseus, e os amorreus habitam na montanha; e os cananeus habitam junto do mar, e pela margem do Jordão.
30 And Caleb stilled the people toward Moses, and he said, We can easily go up, and take possession of it; for we are well able to overcome it.
30 Então Calebe fez calar o povo perante Moisés, e disse: Certamente subiremos e a possuiremos em herança; porque seguramente prevaleceremos contra ela.
31 But the men who had gone up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
31 Porém, os homens que com ele subiram disseram: Não poderemos subir contra aquele povo, porque é mais forte do que nós.
32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out unto the children of Israel, saying, The land through which we have passed to spy it out, is a land that consumeth its inhabitants; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
32 E infamaram a terra que tinham espiado, dizendo aos filhos de Israel: A terra, pela qual passamos a espiá-la, é terra que consome os seus moradores; e todo o povo que vimos nela são homens de grande estatura.
33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of ‘Anak, of the giants’ family: and we were in our own eyes as grasshoppers, and so were we in their eyes.
33 Também vimos ali gigantes, filhos de Anaque, descendentes dos gigantes; e éramos aos nossos olhos como gafanhotos, e assim também éramos aos seus olhos.
