1 And the Lord spake vnto Moses in the plaine of Moab by Iorden, toward Iericho, saying,
1 Nas planícies de Moabe, perto do rio Jordão, na altura de Jericó, que ficava no outro lado do rio, o Senhor disse a Moisés o seguinte:
2 Commande ye children of Israel, that they giue vnto the Leuites of the inheritace of their possession, cities to dwell in: yee shall giue also vnto the Leuites the suburbes of the cities round about them.
2 — Mande que os israelitas, das terras que vão receber, deem aos levitas algumas cidades onde estes possam morar e também terras de pastagens ao redor delas.
3 So they shall haue the cities to dwell in, and their suburbes shall be for their cattell, and for their substance, and for all their beasts.
3 Essas cidades serão dos levitas, e eles morarão nelas. As terras ao seu redor serão para o gado, para as ovelhas e as cabras e para os outros animais.
4 And the suburbes of the cities, which ye shall giue vnto the Leuites, from the wall of the citie outward, shalbe a thousand cubites round about.
4 Os pastos ficarão em volta de toda a cidade, numa distância de quatrocentos e cinquenta metros a partir da muralha.
5 And yee shall measure without the citie of the Eastside, two thousand cubites: and of the Southside, two thousand cubites: and of the Westside, two thousand cubites: and of ye Northside, two thousand cubites: and the citie shalbe in ye middes. this shalbe the measure of the suburbes of their cities.
5 Todo o terreno formará um quadrado de novecentos metros de cada lado, isto é, medirá a mesma coisa a leste e a oeste, ao norte e ao sul. A cidade ficará no meio, e os pastos ficarão em volta.
6 And of the cities which yee shall giue vnto the Leuites, there shalbe sixe cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint, that he which killeth, may flee thither: and to them yee shall adde two and fourtie cities more.
6 — Deem aos levitas seis cidades para fugitivos. Se um homem, sem querer ou por engano, matar alguém, poderá fugir para uma dessas cidades. Além dessas, vocês darão aos levitas quarenta e duas cidades.
7 All the cities which yee shall giue to the Leuites, shalbe eight and fourtie cities: them shall ye giue with their suburbes.
7 Portanto, o total será de quarenta e oito cidades, todas elas com pastos ao seu redor.
8 And concerning the cities which yee shall giue, of the possession of the children of Israel: of many ye shall take more, and of few ye shall take lesse: euery one shall giue of his cities vnto the Leuites, according to his inheritance, which hee inheriteth.
8 O número de cidades de levitas em cada tribo será determinado pelo tamanho do seu território, isto é, dos territórios maiores será escolhido um número maior de cidades, e dos territórios menores, menor número de cidades.
9 And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,

10 Speake vnto the children of Israel, and say vnto them, When ye be come ouer Iorden into the land of Canaan,
10 dissesse ao povo de Israel o seguinte: — Quando vocês atravessarem o rio Jordão para entrar em Canaã,
11 Ye shall appoint you cities, to bee cities of refuge for you, that the slayer, which slayeth any person vnwares, may flee thither.
11 deverão escolher algumas cidades para fugitivos, onde poderá ficar morando qualquer homem que, sem querer ou por engano, tenha matado alguém.
12 And these cities shalbe for you a refuge from the auenger, that he which killeth, die not, vntill he stand before the Congregation in iudgement.
12 Ali ele ficará a salvo do parente da vítima que estiver procurando vingança e não morrerá sem ter sido julgado em público.
13 And of the cities which ye shall giue, sixe cities shall ye haue for refuge.
13 Escolham seis cidades para fugitivos,
14 Ye shall appoint three on this side Iorden, and ye shall appoint three cities in the lande of Canaan which shalbe cities of refuge.

15 These six cities shalbe a refuge for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for him that dwelleth among you, that euery one which killeth any person vnwares, may flee thither.
15 Essas seis cidades serão de refúgio, tanto para os israelitas como para os estrangeiros que moram com vocês, seja só por algum tempo, seja para sempre. Quem tiver matado alguém sem querer ou por engano poderá ficar refugiado ali.
16 And if one smite another with an instrument of yron that hee die, hee is a murtherer, and the murtherer shall die the death.

17 Also if hee smite him by casting a stone, wherewith hee may be slaine, and he die, hee is a murtherer, and the murtherer shall die the death.

18 Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may be slaine, if he die, he is a murtherer, and the murtherer shall die the death.

19 The reuenger of the blood himselfe shall slay the murtherer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.
19 Quando o parente mais chegado do morto encontrar o assassino, deverá matá-lo.
20 But if hee thrust him of hate, or hurle at him by laying of wait, that he die,
20 — Se um homem empurrar o outro com ódio ou jogar alguma coisa contra ele com má intenção, e ele morrer;
21 Or smite him through enimitie with his hand, that he die, he that smote him shall die ye death: for hee is a murtherer: the reuenger of the blood shall slay the murtherer when he meeteth him.
21 ou se um homem esmurrar um inimigo, e este morrer, o culpado será morto, pois é um assassino. Quando o parente mais chegado do falecido encontrar o assassino, deverá matá-lo.
22 But if he pusshed him vnaduisedly, and not of hatred, or cast vpon him any thing, without laying of waite,
22 — Mas pode acontecer que alguém, sem querer, empurre o companheiro que não era seu inimigo; ou atire, sem má intenção, alguma coisa contra ele.
23 Or any stone (whereby he might be slaine) and sawe him not, or caused it to fall vpon him, and he die, and was not his enemie, neither sought him any harme,
23 Pode acontecer também que alguém, sem ver, atire uma pedra que venha a cair em cima de alguém e cause a sua morte. Porém os dois não eram inimigos, e quem matou não fez isso de propósito.
24 Then the Congregation shall iudge betweene the slayer and the auenger of blood according to these lawes.
24 Nesses casos o povo julgará a favor do que matou sem querer e não a favor do homem que era responsável por vingar a morte do seu parente.
25 And the Congregation shall deliuer the slayer out of the hande of the auenger of blood, and the Congregation shall restore him vnto the citie of his refuge, whither hee was fled: and hee shall abide there vnto the death of the hie Priest, which is anointed with the holy oyle.
25 O povo deverá proteger o homem que matou sem querer, não deixando que ele seja morto pelo parente do homem que morreu. O povo o fará voltar à cidade de refúgio para onde havia fugido, e ali o assassino ficará até a morte do Grande Sacerdote , que foi ungido com azeite sagrado.
26 But if the slayer come without the borders of the citie of his refuge, whither he was fled,
26 Mas, se em qualquer tempo o homem que matou alguém sair da cidade de refúgio para onde havia fugido,
27 And the reuenger of blood finde him without the borders of the citie of his refuge, and the reueger of blood slay ye murtherer, he shalbe giltles,
27 e o responsável por vingar a morte do seu parente o encontrar, ele poderá matá-lo e não será culpado por essa morte.
28 Because he should haue remained in the citie of his refuge, vntill the death of the hie Priest: and after the death of the hie Priest, the slayer shall returne vnto the land of his possession.
28 O homem que matou alguém deverá ficar na sua cidade de refúgio até a morte do Grande Sacerdote, mas depois poderá voltar para a sua casa.
29 So these thinges shall be a lawe of iudgement vnto you, throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
29 Essas ordens serão uma lei para vocês e os seus descendentes, em todos os lugares onde vocês morarem.
30 Whosoeuer killeth any person, the Iudge shall slay the murtherer, through witnesses: but one witnesse shall not testifie against a person to cause him to die.
30 — Quem matar uma pessoa será condenado à morte, conforme o que duas ou mais testemunhas disserem; uma testemunha só não basta para condenar alguém à morte.
31 Moreouer ye shall take no recompense for the life of the murtherer, which is worthy to die: but he shalbe put to death.
31 A vida de um criminoso condenado à morte não pode ser comprada com dinheiro. Ele será morto.
32 Also ye shall take no recompense for him that is fled to the citie of his refuge, that he should come againe, and dwell in the lande, before the death of the hie Priest.
32 Também não aceitem dinheiro para libertar aquele que tiver fugido para uma cidade de refúgio e que quiser voltar para a sua terra antes da morte do Grande Sacerdote.
33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye shall dwell: for blood defileth the land: and the land cannot be clensed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.
33 Portanto, não profanem com crimes de sangue a terra onde vocês vivem, pois os assassinatos profanam o país. E a única maneira de se fazer a cerimônia de purificação da terra onde alguém foi morto é pela morte do assassino.
34 Defile not therefore the lande which yee shall inhabite, For I dwell in the middes thereof: for I the Lord dwel among the children of Israel.
34 Não tornem impura a terra onde vocês vão morar, pois eu também estou no meio dela. Eu, o Senhor , vivo no meio dos israelitas.
