1 Nowe the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad had an exceeding great multitude of cattell: and they sawe the lande of Iazer, and the lande of Gilead, that it was an apt place for cattel.
1 As tribos de Rúben e Gade possuíam rebanhos enormes. Por isso, quando viram que as terras de Jazar e Gileade eram adequadas para os rebanhos,
2 Then the children of Gad, and the childre of Reuben came, and spake vnto Moses and to Eleazar the Priest, and vnto the princes of the Congregation, saying,
2 foram a Moisés, ao sacerdote Eleazar e aos outros líderes da comunidade e disseram:
3 The land of Ataroth, and Dibon, and Iazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon,
3 “Vejam as cidades de Atarote, Dibom, Jazar, Ninra, Hesbom, Eleale, Sibma, Nebo e Beom.
4 Which countrey the Lord smote before the Congregation of Israel, is a lande meete for cattell, and thy seruants haue cattell:
4 O S enhor conquistou toda esta região para a comunidade de Israel, e ela é adequada para criar rebanhos e para nós, seus servos, que possuímos rebanhos.
5 Wherefore, said they, if we haue foud grace in thy sight, let this lande be giuen vnto thy seruants for a possession, and bring vs not ouer Iorde.
5 Se contamos com o seu favor, pedimos que nos deixem ocupar esta terra como nossa propriedade em vez de nos dar a terra do outro lado do Jordão”.
6 And Moses said vnto the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren goe to warre, and ye tary heere?
6 Moisés perguntou aos homens de Gade e Rúben: “Então vocês querem que seus irmãos vão à guerra enquanto vocês ficam aqui?
7 Wherefore now discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel, to goe ouer into the lande, which the Lord hath giuen them?
7 Por que querem desanimar o restante dos israelitas de atravessar o rio para a terra que o S enhor lhes deu?
8 Thus did your fathers when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the lande.
8 Seus antepassados fizeram a mesma coisa quando eu os enviei de Cades-Barneia para fazer o reconhecimento da terra.
9 For when they went vp euen vnto the riuer of Eshcol, and sawe the land: they discouraged the heart of the childre of Israel, that they woulde not goe into the lande, which the Lord had giuen them.
9 Depois que subiram até o vale de Escol e fizeram o reconhecimento da região, desanimaram os israelitas de entrarem na terra que o S enhor lhes dava.
10 And the Lordes wrath was kindled the same day, and he did sweare, saying,
10 Por isso a ira do S enhor se acendeu contra eles, e ele jurou:
11 None of the men that came out of Egypt from twentie yeere olde and aboue, shall see the land for the which I sware vnto Abraham, to Izhak, and to Iaakob, because they haue not wholly followed me:
11 ‘De todos aqueles que eu resgatei do Egito, ninguém com 20 anos para cima verá a terra que eu jurei dar a Abraão, Isaque e Jacó, pois não me obedeceram de todo o coração.
12 Except Caleb the sonne of Iephunneh the Kenesite, and Ioshua the sonne of Nun: for they haue constantly followed the Lord.
12 As únicas exceções são Calebe, filho do quenezeu Jefoné, e Josué, filho de Num, pois eles seguiram o S enhor de todo o coração’.
13 And the Lord was very angry with Israel, and made them wander in the wildernesse fourty yeeres, vntill all the generation that had done euill in the sight of the Lord were consumed.
13 “A ira do S enhor se acendeu contra os israelitas, e ele os fez andar sem rumo pelo deserto durante quarenta anos, até que toda a geração que havia pecado contra o S enhor tivesse morrido.
14 And behold, ye are risen vp in your fathers steade as an encrease of sinfull men, still to augment the fierce wrath of the Lord, toward Israel.
14 Mas aqui estão vocês, uma raça de pecadores, fazendo exatamente a mesma coisa, acendendo ainda mais a ira do S enhor contra Israel.
15 For if ye turne away from following him, he will yet againe leaue the people in the wildernesse, and ye shall destroy all this folke.
15 Se vocês se afastarem dele e se ele abandonar o povo no deserto outra vez, vocês serão responsáveis pela destruição de todo este povo!”.
16 And they went neere to him, and said, We will builde sheepe foldes here for our sheepe, and for our cattell, and cities for our children.
16 Eles se aproximaram de Moisés e disseram: “Queremos construir currais para nossos animais e cidades para nossos filhos.
17 But we our selues will be readie armed to go before the children of Israel, vntill we haue brought them vnto their place: but our childre shall dwell in the defenced cities, because of the inhabitants of the lande.
17 Então nos armaremos e sairemos prontamente com os israelitas para a batalha até que os tenhamos levado em segurança para sua terra. Enquanto isso, nossos filhos ficarão nas cidades fortificadas que construirmos aqui e estarão protegidos de ataques dos povos da região.
18 We will not returne vnto our houses, vntil the children of Israel haue inherited, euery man his inheritance.
18 Só voltaremos a nossos lares quando todos os israelitas tiverem recebido suas porções de terra.
19 Neither wil we inherite with them beyond Iorden and on that side, because our inheritance is fallen to vs on this side Iorden Eastwarde.
19 Não exigimos, porém, terra alguma do outro lado do Jordão. Preferimos viver aqui do lado leste do Jordão e aceitamos esta região como nossa herança na terra”.
20 And Moses saide vnto them, If ye will doe this thing, and goe armed before the Lord to warre:
20 Então Moisés lhes disse: “Se fizerem como prometeram e se, armadas para as batalhas do S enhor ,
21 And will goe euery one of you in harnesse ouer Iorden before the Lord, vntill he hath cast out his enemies from his sight:
21 suas tropas atravessarem o Jordão e continuarem a lutar até que o S enhor tenha expulsado seus inimigos,
22 And vntill the land be subdued before the Lord, then ye shall returne and be innocent toward the Lord, and toward Israel: and this land shalbe your possession before the Lord.
22 então poderão voltar quando o S enhor tiver conquistado a terra. Assim vocês terão cumprido seu dever para com o S enhor e para com o povo de Israel. A terra do lado leste do Jordão será sua propriedade da parte do S enhor .
23 But if ye will not doe so, beholde, ye haue sinned against the Lord, and be sure, that your sinne will finde you out.
23 Mas, se não fizerem como prometeram, terão pecado contra o S enhor e não escaparão das consequências.
24 Builde you then cities for your children and folds for your sheepe, and do that ye haue spoke.
24 Vão, construam cidades para suas famílias e currais para seus rebanhos, mas façam tudo que prometeram”.
25 Then the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spake vnto Moses, saying, Thy seruats will doe as my lorde commandeth:
25 Os homens de Gade e Rúben responderam: “Nós, seus servos, seguiremos suas instruções.
26 Our childre, our wiues, our sheepe, and al our cattell shall remaine there in the cities of Gilead,
26 Nossos filhos, esposas, rebanhos e gado ficarão aqui nas cidades de Gileade.
27 But thy seruants will goe euery one armed to warre before the Lord for to fight, as my lorde saith.
27 Mas nós, seus servos, todos armados para a guerra, atravessaremos o rio e lutaremos pelo S enhor , conforme nos ordenou”.
28 So concerning them, Moses commanded Eleazar the Priest, and Ioshua the sonne of Nun, and the chiefe fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel:
28 Moisés deu ordens ao sacerdote Eleazar, a Josué, filho de Num, e aos chefes das famílias das tribos de Israel.
29 And Moses said vnto them, If the children of Gad, and the children of Reuben, will go with you ouer Iorden, all armed to fight before the Lord, then when the land is subdued before you, ye shall giue the the lad of Gilead for a possessio:
29 Disse ele: “Os homens de Gade e Rúben estão armados para a batalha e atravessarão o Jordão com vocês e lutarão pelo S enhor . Se o fizerem, depois que a terra for conquistada entregue-lhes o território de Gileade como sua propriedade.
30 But if they will not goe ouer with you armed, then they shall haue their possessions amog you in the land of Canaan.
30 Mas, se eles se recusarem a armar-se e atravessar o rio com vocês, serão obrigados a aceitar uma porção de terra com o restante de vocês em Canaã”.
31 And the children of Gad, and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As the Lord hath said vnto thy seruants, so will we doe.
31 As tribos de Gade e Rúben disseram outra vez: “Somos seus servos e faremos o que o S enhor ordenou!
32 We will goe armed before the Lord into the lande of Canaan: that the possession of our inheritance may be to vs on this side Iorden.
32 Atravessaremos bem armados o Jordão até Canaã e lutaremos para o S enhor , mas nossa porção de terra estará aqui deste lado do Jordão”.
33 So Moses gaue vnto them, euen to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and to halfe the tribe of Manasseh the sonne of Ioseph, the kingdome of Sihon King of the Amorites, and the kingdome of Og King of Bashan, the lande with the cities thereof and coastes, euen the cities of the countrey round about.
33 Então Moisés distribuiu terras entre as tribos de Gade e Rúben e a meia tribo de Manassés, filho de José. Deu-lhes o território de Seom, rei dos amorreus, o território de Ogue, rei de Basã, toda a terra com suas cidades e o território ao redor delas.
34 Then the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,
34 Os descendentes de Gade construíram as cidades de Dibom, Atarote, Aroer,
35 And Atroth, Shophan, and Iazer, and Iogbehah,
35 Atarote-Sofã, Jazar, Jogbeá,
36 And Beth-nimrah, and Beth-haran, defenced cities: also sheepe foldes.
36 Bete-Ninra e Bete-Harã, e todas eram cidades fortificadas e com currais para os rebanhos.
37 And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kiriathaim,
37 Os descendentes de Rúben construíram as cidades de Hesbom, Eleale, Quiriataim,
38 And Nebo, and Baal-meon, and turned their names, and Shibmah: and gaue other names vnto the cities which they built.
38 Nebo, Baal-Meom e Sibma, e mudaram o nome de algumas das cidades que conquistaram e reconstruíram.
39 And the children of Machir the sonne of Manasseh went to Gilead, and tooke it, and put out the Amorites that dwelt therein.
39 Os descendentes de Maquir, da tribo de Manassés, foram até Gileade, tomaram posse dela e expulsaram os amorreus que ali viviam.
40 Then Moses gaue Gilead vnto Machir the sonne of Manasseh, and he dwelt therein.
40 Moisés deu Gileade aos maquiritas, descendentes de Manassés, e eles se estabeleceram ali.
41 And Iair the sonne of Manasseh went and tooke the small townes thereof, and called them Hauoth Iair.
41 O povo de Jair, outro clã da tribo de Manassés, capturou muitos dos povoados de Gileade e mudou o nome da região para Cidades de Jair.
42 Also Nobah went and tooke Kenath, with the villages thereof and called it Nobah, after his owne name.
42 Enquanto isso, um homem chamado Noba conquistou a cidade de Quenate e as vilas ao redor e deu seu próprio nome à região, chamando-a de Noba.
