2 A|strong="G2532" large|strong="G4183" crowd gathered|strong="G4863" to|strong="G4314" hear him|strong="G0846" speak|strong="G2980". The|strong="G3588" house was|strong="G3588" so|strong="G2532" full|strong="G4183" that|strong="G5620" there|strong="G4183" was|strong="G3588" no|strong="G3371" place|strong="G5562" to|strong="G4314" stand, not|strong="G3366" even|strong="G2532" outside the|strong="G3588" door|strong="G2374". While|strong="G2980" Jesus|strong="G0846" was|strong="G3588" teaching|strong="G3056",
3 some people|strong="G0846" brought|strong="G5342" a|strong="G5259" paralyzed|strong="G3885" man to|strong="G4314" see him|strong="G0846". He|strong="G2532" was|strong="G0846" being carried|strong="G0142" by|strong="G5259" four|strong="G5064" of|strong="G2532" them|strong="G0846".
4 But|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" could|strong="G1410" not|strong="G3361" get|strong="G4374" the|strong="G3588" man|strong="G3361" inside to|strong="G1410" Jesus|strong="G0846" because|strong="G1223" the|strong="G3588" house was|strong="G1510" so|strong="G2532" full of|strong="G1223" people|strong="G3793". So|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" went to|strong="G1410" the|strong="G3588" roof|strong="G4721" above|strong="G3699" Jesus|strong="G0846" and|strong="G2532" made a|strong="G1510" hole in|strong="G2532" it|strong="G0846". Then|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" lowered the|strong="G3588" mat|strong="G2895" with|strong="G1223" the|strong="G3588" paralyzed|strong="G3885" man|strong="G3361" on|strong="G0846" it|strong="G0846".
5 When|strong="G2532" Jesus|strong="G2424" saw|strong="G3708" how much faith|strong="G4102" they|strong="G0846" had|strong="G2424", he|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" the|strong="G3588" paralyzed|strong="G3885" man, “Young man, your|strong="G0863" sins|strong="G0266" are|strong="G3588" forgiven|strong="G0863".”
6 Some|strong="G5100" of|strong="G5100" the|strong="G3588" teachers of|strong="G5100" the|strong="G3588" law were|strong="G1510" sitting|strong="G2521" there|strong="G1563". They|strong="G0846" saw what|strong="G3588" Jesus|strong="G0846" did|strong="G1510", and|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" said|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" themselves|strong="G0846",
7 “Why|strong="G5101" does|strong="G5101" this|strong="G3778" man|strong="G3778" say|strong="G2980" things|strong="G3778" like|strong="G3779" that|strong="G3778"? What|strong="G5101" an|strong="G1520" insult|strong="G0987" to|strong="G1410" God|strong="G2316"! No|strong="G3361" one|strong="G1520" but|strong="G1487" God|strong="G2316" can|strong="G1410" forgive|strong="G0863" sins|strong="G0266".”
8 Jesus|strong="G2424" knew|strong="G1921" immediately|strong="G2117" what|strong="G5101" these|strong="G3778" teachers of|strong="G4151" the|strong="G3588" law were|strong="G3778" thinking. So|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" them|strong="G0846", “Why|strong="G5101" do|strong="G3004" you|strong="G5210" have|strong="G2532" these|strong="G3778" questions in|strong="G1722" your|strong="G2532" minds|strong="G2588"?
11 “I|strong="G2532" tell|strong="G3004" you|strong="G4771", stand|strong="G1453" up|strong="G1453". Take|strong="G0142" your|strong="G2532" mat|strong="G2895" and|strong="G2532" go|strong="G5217" home|strong="G3624".”
12 Immediately|strong="G2117" the|strong="G3956" paralyzed man|strong="G2316" stood up|strong="G1453". He|strong="G2532" picked|strong="G0142" up|strong="G1453" his|strong="G3956" mat|strong="G2895" and|strong="G2532" walked out|strong="G1831" of|strong="G2316" the|strong="G3956" room. Everyone|strong="G3956" could see|strong="G3708" him|strong="G3708". They|strong="G2532" were|strong="G3956" amazed|strong="G1839" and|strong="G2532" praised|strong="G1392" God|strong="G2316". They|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004", “This|strong="G3779" is|strong="G2316" the|strong="G3956" most amazing|strong="G1839" thing|strong="G3004" we|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2532" ever|strong="G3763" seen|strong="G3708"!”
13 Jesus|strong="G0846" went|strong="G1831" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3956" lake|strong="G2281" again|strong="G3825", and|strong="G2532" many|strong="G3793" people|strong="G3793" followed him|strong="G0846" there. So|strong="G2532" Jesus|strong="G0846" taught|strong="G1321" them|strong="G0846".
14 He|strong="G2532" was|strong="G3588" walking beside|strong="G1909" the|strong="G3588" lake, and|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" saw|strong="G3708" a|strong="G3708" man named|strong="G3004" Levi|strong="G3018", son of|strong="G1909" Alphaeus. Levi|strong="G3018" was|strong="G3588" sitting|strong="G2521" at|strong="G1909" his|strong="G0846" place|strong="G1473" for|strong="G1909" collecting taxes. Jesus|strong="G0846" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" him|strong="G0846", “Follow|strong="G0190" me|strong="G3004".” Then|strong="G2532" Levi|strong="G3018" stood|strong="G0450" up|strong="G0450" and|strong="G2532" followed|strong="G0190" Jesus|strong="G0846".
15 Later that|strong="G1096" day, Jesus|strong="G2424" and|strong="G2532" his|strong="G0846" followers ate at|strong="G1722" Levi’s|strong="G0846" house|strong="G3614". There|strong="G1510" were|strong="G1510" also|strong="G2532" many|strong="G4183" tax|strong="G5057" collectors|strong="G5057" and|strong="G2532" others|strong="G3588" with|strong="G1722" bad reputations eating with|strong="G1722" them|strong="G0846". (There|strong="G1510" were|strong="G1510" many|strong="G4183" of|strong="G1722" these|strong="G3588" people|strong="G0846" who|strong="G3588" followed|strong="G0190" Jesus|strong="G2424".)
16 When|strong="G2532" some|strong="G3588" teachers of|strong="G3101" the|strong="G3588" law who|strong="G3588" were|strong="G3101" Pharisees|strong="G5330" saw|strong="G3708" Jesus|strong="G0846" eating|strong="G2068" with|strong="G3326" such bad people|strong="G0846", they|strong="G0846" asked|strong="G3004" his|strong="G0846" followers, “Why does|strong="G2068" he|strong="G2532" eat|strong="G2068" with|strong="G3326" tax|strong="G5057" collectors|strong="G5057" and|strong="G2532" sinners|strong="G0268"?”
17 When|strong="G2532" Jesus|strong="G2424" heard|strong="G0191" this|strong="G3588", he|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" them|strong="G0846", “It|strong="G0846" is|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" sick|strong="G2560" people|strong="G0846" who|strong="G3588" need|strong="G5532" a|strong="G2192" doctor, not|strong="G3756" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" healthy|strong="G2480". I|strong="G2532" did|strong="G0191" not|strong="G3756" come|strong="G2064" to|strong="G3004" invite|strong="G2564" good|strong="G2480" people|strong="G0846". I|strong="G2532" came|strong="G2064" to|strong="G3004" invite|strong="G2564" sinners|strong="G0268".”
18 The|strong="G3588" followers of|strong="G1223" John|strong="G2491" and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" Pharisees|strong="G5330" were|strong="G1510" fasting|strong="G3522". Some|strong="G3588" people|strong="G0846" came|strong="G2064" to|strong="G3004" Jesus|strong="G0846" and|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004", “John’s|strong="G2491" followers fast|strong="G3522", and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" followers of|strong="G1223" the|strong="G3588" Pharisees|strong="G5330" fast|strong="G3522". But|strong="G1161" your|strong="G4674" followers don’t|strong="G3756" fast|strong="G3522". Why|strong="G5101"?”
19 Jesus|strong="G2424" answered|strong="G3004", “At|strong="G1722" a|strong="G2192" wedding|strong="G3567" the|strong="G3588" friends of|strong="G5207" the|strong="G3588" bridegroom|strong="G3566" are|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" sad while|strong="G1722" he|strong="G2532" is|strong="G1510" with|strong="G3326" them|strong="G0846". They|strong="G0846" cannot|strong="G3756" fast|strong="G3522" while|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" bridegroom|strong="G3566" is|strong="G1510" still there|strong="G1510".
20 But|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3588" time|strong="G2250" will|strong="G2250" come|strong="G2064" when|strong="G3752" the|strong="G3588" bridegroom|strong="G3566" will|strong="G2250" be|strong="G2532" taken|strong="G0522" from|strong="G0575" them|strong="G0846". Then|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" will|strong="G2250" fast|strong="G3522".
21 “When|strong="G2532" someone sews|strong="G1976" a|strong="G1096" patch|strong="G1915" over|strong="G1909" a|strong="G1096" hole in|strong="G1909" an|strong="G1096" old|strong="G3820" coat|strong="G2440", they|strong="G0846" never|strong="G3361" use a|strong="G1096" piece|strong="G1915" of|strong="G0575" cloth|strong="G4470" that|strong="G1096" is|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3361" yet|strong="G2532" shrunk. If|strong="G1487" they|strong="G0846" do|strong="G1096", the|strong="G3588" patch|strong="G1915" will|strong="G2532" shrink and|strong="G2532" pull away|strong="G0142" from|strong="G0575" the|strong="G3588" coat|strong="G2440". Then|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" hole will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G1096" worse|strong="G5501".
22 Also|strong="G2532", no|strong="G3762" one|strong="G3762" ever pours|strong="G0906" new|strong="G2537" wine|strong="G3631" into|strong="G1519" old|strong="G3820" wineskins|strong="G0779". The|strong="G3588" wine|strong="G3631" would|strong="G3762" break|strong="G4486" them|strong="G0622", and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" wine|strong="G3631" would|strong="G3762" be|strong="G2532" ruined|strong="G0622" along|strong="G2532" with|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" wineskins|strong="G0779". You|strong="G1487" always put|strong="G0906" new|strong="G2537" wine|strong="G3631" into|strong="G1519" new|strong="G2537" wineskins|strong="G0779".”
23 On|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" Sabbath|strong="G4521" day|strong="G4521", Jesus|strong="G0846" and|strong="G2532" his|strong="G0846" followers were|strong="G3101" walking through|strong="G1223" some|strong="G3588" grain|strong="G4719" fields. The|strong="G3588" followers picked|strong="G5089" some|strong="G3588" grain|strong="G4719" to|strong="G0757" eat.
24 Some|strong="G3588" Pharisees|strong="G5330" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" Jesus|strong="G0846", “Why|strong="G5101" are|strong="G3739" your|strong="G3708" followers doing|strong="G4160" this|strong="G3588"? It|strong="G0846" is|strong="G5101" against|strong="G3756" the|strong="G3588" law to|strong="G3004" pick grain on|strong="G4160" the|strong="G3588" Sabbath|strong="G4521".”
25 Jesus|strong="G0846" answered|strong="G3004", “You|strong="G3004" have|strong="G2192" read|strong="G0314" what|strong="G5101" David|strong="G1138" did|strong="G4160" when|strong="G3753" he|strong="G2532" and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" people|strong="G0846" with|strong="G3326" him|strong="G0846" were|strong="G3588" hungry|strong="G3983" and|strong="G2532" needed|strong="G5532" food.
26 It|strong="G0846" was|strong="G1510" during|strong="G1909" the|strong="G3588" time|strong="G1909" of|strong="G2316" Abiathar|strong="G0008" the|strong="G3588" high|strong="G0749" priest|strong="G0749". David went|strong="G1525" into|strong="G1519" God’s|strong="G2316" house|strong="G3624" and|strong="G2532" ate|strong="G2068" the|strong="G3588" bread|strong="G0740" that|strong="G3739" was|strong="G1510" offered to|strong="G1519" God|strong="G2316". And|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" Law of|strong="G2316" Moses|strong="G0846" says that|strong="G3739" only|strong="G1487" priests|strong="G0749" can|strong="G1325" eat|strong="G2068" that|strong="G3739" bread|strong="G0740". David also|strong="G2532" gave|strong="G1325" some|strong="G3588" of|strong="G2316" the|strong="G3588" bread|strong="G0740" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" people|strong="G0846" with|strong="G4862" him|strong="G0846".”
27 Then|strong="G2532" Jesus|strong="G0846" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" the|strong="G3588" Pharisees, “The|strong="G3588" Sabbath|strong="G4521" day|strong="G4521" was|strong="G3588" made|strong="G1096" to|strong="G3004" help people|strong="G0444". People|strong="G0444" were|strong="G1096" not|strong="G3756" made|strong="G1096" to|strong="G3004" be|strong="G1096" ruled by|strong="G1223" the|strong="G3588" Sabbath|strong="G4521".
28 So|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" Son|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" Man|strong="G0444" is|strong="G1510" Lord|strong="G2962" of|strong="G5207" every day|strong="G4521", even|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" Sabbath|strong="G4521".”
