2 And they called|strong="H7121" the people|strong="H5971" unto the sacrifices|strong="H2077" of their gods|strong="H0430": and the people|strong="H5971" did eat|strong="H0398", and bowed down|strong="H7812" to their gods|strong="H0430".
3 And Israel|strong="H3478" joined|strong="H6775" himself unto Baal-peor|strong="H1187": and the anger|strong="H0639" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* was kindled|strong="H2734" against Israel|strong="H3478".
4 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto Moses|strong="H4872", Take|strong="H3947" all the heads|strong="H7218" of the people|strong="H5971", and hang them up|strong="H3363" before|strong="H5048" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* against the sun|strong="H8121", that the fierce|strong="H2740" anger|strong="H0639" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* may be turned away|strong="H7725" from Israel|strong="H3478".
5 And Moses|strong="H4872" said|strong="H0559" unto the judges|strong="H8199" of Israel|strong="H3478", Slay|strong="H2026" ye every|strong="H0376" one|strong="H0376" his men|strong="H0582" that were joined|strong="H6775" unto Baal-peor|strong="H1187".
6 And, behold, one|strong="H0376" of the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" came|strong="H0935" and brought|strong="H7126" unto his brethren|strong="H0251" a Midianitish woman|strong="H4084" in the sight|strong="H5869" of Moses|strong="H4872", and in the sight|strong="H5869" of all the congregation|strong="H5712" of the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478", who were weeping|strong="H1058" before the door|strong="H6607" of the tabernacle|strong="H0168" of the congregation|strong="H4150".
7 And when Phinehas|strong="H6372", the son|strong="H1121" of Eleazar|strong="H0499", the son|strong="H1121" of Aaron|strong="H0175" the priest|strong="H3548", saw|strong="H7200" it, he rose up|strong="H6965" from among|strong="H8432" the congregation|strong="H5712", and took|strong="H3947" a javelin|strong="H7420" in his hand|strong="H3027";

9 And those that died|strong="H4191" in the plague|strong="H4046" were twenty|strong="H6242" and four|strong="H0702" thousand|strong="H0505".
10 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* spake|strong="H1696" unto Moses|strong="H4872", saying|strong="H0559",
11 Phinehas|strong="H6372", the son|strong="H1121" of Eleazar|strong="H0499", the son|strong="H1121" of Aaron|strong="H0175" the priest|strong="H3548", hath turned|strong="H7725" my wrath|strong="H2534" away|strong="H7725" from the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478", while he was zealous|strong="H7065" for my sake|strong="H7068" among|strong="H8432" them, that I consumed|strong="H3615" not the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" in my jealousy|strong="H7068".
12 Wherefore say|strong="H0559", Behold, I give|strong="H5414" unto him my covenant|strong="H1285" of peace|strong="H7965":
13 And he shall have it, and his seed|strong="H2233" after|strong="H0310" him, even the covenant|strong="H1285" of an everlasting|strong="H5769" priesthood|strong="H3550"; because|strong="H0834" he was zealous|strong="H7065" for his God|strong="H0430", and made an atonement|strong="H3722" for the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478".
14 Now the name|strong="H8034" of the Israelite|strong="H0376" that was slain|strong="H5221", even that was slain|strong="H5221" with the Midianitish woman|strong="H4084", was Zimri|strong="H2174", the son|strong="H1121" of Salu|strong="H5543", a prince|strong="H5387" of a chief|strong="H0001" house|strong="H1004" among the Simeonites|strong="H8099".
15 And the name|strong="H8034" of the Midianitish|strong="H4084" woman|strong="H0802" that was slain|strong="H5221" was Cozbi|strong="H3579", the daughter|strong="H1323" of Zur|strong="H6698"; he was head|strong="H7218" over a people|strong="H0523", and of a chief|strong="H0001" house|strong="H1004" in Midian|strong="H4080".
16 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* spake|strong="H1696" unto Moses|strong="H4872", saying|strong="H0559",
17 Vex|strong="H6887" the Midianites|strong="H4084", and smite|strong="H5221" them:
18 For they vex|strong="H6887" you with their wiles|strong="H5231", wherewith they have beguiled|strong="H5230" you in the matter|strong="H1697" of Peor|strong="H6465", and in the matter|strong="H1697" of Cozbi|strong="H3579", the daughter|strong="H1323" of a prince|strong="H5387" of Midian|strong="H4080", their sister|strong="H0269", which was slain|strong="H5221" in the day|strong="H3117" of the plague|strong="H4046" for Peor’s|strong="H6465" sake|strong="H1697".
