And the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" set forward|strong="H5265", and pitched|strong="H2583" in the plains|strong="H6160" of Moab|strong="H4124" on this side|strong="H5676" Jordan|strong="H3383" by Jericho|strong="H3405".
And Balak|strong="H1111" the son|strong="H1121" of Zippor|strong="H6834" saw|strong="H7200" all that Israel|strong="H3478" had done|strong="H6213" to the Amorites|strong="H0567".
And Moab|strong="H4124" was sore|strong="H3966" afraid|strong="H1481" of|strong="H6440" the people|strong="H5971", because they were many|strong="H7227": and Moab|strong="H4124" was distressed|strong="H6973" because of|strong="H6440" the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478".
And Moab|strong="H4124" said|strong="H0559" unto the elders|strong="H2205" of Midian|strong="H4080", Now shall this company|strong="H6951" lick up|strong="H3897" all that are round about|strong="H5439" us, as the ox|strong="H7794" licketh up|strong="H3897" the grass|strong="H3418" of the field|strong="H7704". And Balak|strong="H1111" the son|strong="H1121" of Zippor|strong="H6834" was king|strong="H4428" of the Moabites|strong="H4124" at that time|strong="H6256".
He sent|strong="H7971" messengers|strong="H4397" therefore unto Balaam|strong="H1109" the son|strong="H1121" of Beor|strong="H1160" to Pethor|strong="H6604", which is by the river|strong="H5104" of the land|strong="H0776" of the children|strong="H1121" of his people|strong="H5971", to call|strong="H7121" him, saying|strong="H0559", Behold, there is a people|strong="H5971" come out|strong="H3318" from Egypt|strong="H4714": behold, they cover|strong="H3680" the face|strong="H5869" of the earth|strong="H0776", and they abide|strong="H3427" over against|strong="H4136" me:
Come|strong="H3212" now therefore, I pray thee, curse|strong="H0779" me this people|strong="H5971"; for they are too mighty|strong="H6099" for me: peradventure I shall prevail|strong="H3201", that we may smite|strong="H5221" them, and that I may drive them out|strong="H1644" of the land|strong="H0776": for I wot|strong="H3045" that he whom thou blessest|strong="H1288" is blessed|strong="H1288", and he whom thou cursest|strong="H0779" is cursed|strong="H0779".
And the elders|strong="H2205" of Moab|strong="H4124" and the elders|strong="H2205" of Midian|strong="H4080" departed|strong="H3212" with the rewards of divination|strong="H7081" in their hand|strong="H3027"; and they came|strong="H0935" unto Balaam|strong="H1109", and spake|strong="H1696" unto him the words|strong="H1697" of Balak|strong="H1111".
And he said|strong="H0559" unto them, Lodge|strong="H3885" here this night|strong="H3915", and I will bring|strong="H7725" you word|strong="H1697" again|strong="H7725", as the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* shall speak|strong="H1696" unto me: and the princes|strong="H8269" of Moab|strong="H4124" abode|strong="H3427" with Balaam|strong="H1109".
And God|strong="H0430" came|strong="H0935" unto Balaam|strong="H1109", and said|strong="H0559", What men|strong="H0582" are these with thee?
And Balaam|strong="H1109" said|strong="H0559" unto God|strong="H0430", Balak|strong="H1111" the son|strong="H1121" of Zippor|strong="H6834", king|strong="H4428" of Moab|strong="H4124", hath sent|strong="H7971" unto me, saying,
Behold, there is a people|strong="H5971" come out|strong="H3318" of Egypt|strong="H4714", which covereth|strong="H3680" the face|strong="H5869" of the earth|strong="H0776": come|strong="H3212" now, curse|strong="H6895" me them; peradventure I shall be able|strong="H3201" to overcome|strong="H3898" them, and drive them out|strong="H1644".
And God|strong="H0430" said|strong="H0559" unto Balaam|strong="H1109", Thou shalt not go|strong="H3212" with them; thou shalt not curse|strong="H0779" the people|strong="H5971": for they are blessed|strong="H1288".
And Balaam|strong="H1109" rose up|strong="H6965" in the morning|strong="H1242", and said|strong="H0559" unto the princes|strong="H8269" of Balak|strong="H1111", Get|strong="H3212" you into your land|strong="H0776": for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* refuseth|strong="H3985" to give me leave|strong="H5414" to go|strong="H1980" with you.
And the princes|strong="H8269" of Moab|strong="H4124" rose up|strong="H6965", and they went|strong="H0935" unto Balak|strong="H1111", and said|strong="H0559", Balaam|strong="H1109" refuseth|strong="H3985" to come|strong="H1980" with us.
And Balak|strong="H1111" sent|strong="H7971" yet again|strong="H3254" princes|strong="H8269", more|strong="H7227", and more honourable|strong="H3513" than they.
And they came|strong="H0935" to Balaam|strong="H1109", and said|strong="H0559" to him, Thus saith|strong="H0559" Balak|strong="H1111" the son|strong="H1121" of Zippor|strong="H6834", Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder|strong="H4513" thee from coming|strong="H1980" unto me:
For I will promote|strong="H3513" thee unto very|strong="H3966" great|strong="H3513" honour|strong="H3513", and I will do|strong="H6213" whatsoever thou sayest|strong="H0559" unto me: come|strong="H3212" therefore, I pray thee, curse|strong="H6895" me this people|strong="H5971".
And Balaam|strong="H1109" answered|strong="H6030" and said|strong="H0559" unto the servants|strong="H5650" of Balak|strong="H1111", If Balak|strong="H1111" would give|strong="H5414" me his house|strong="H1004" full|strong="H4393" of silver|strong="H3701" and gold|strong="H2091", I cannot|strong="H3201" go beyond|strong="H5674" the word|strong="H6310" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* my God|strong="H0430", to do|strong="H6213" less|strong="H6996" or more|strong="H1419".
Now therefore, I pray you, tarry|strong="H3427" ye also here this night|strong="H3915", that I may know|strong="H3045" what the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* will say|strong="H1696" unto me more|strong="H3254".
And God|strong="H0430" came|strong="H0935" unto Balaam|strong="H1109" at night|strong="H3915", and said|strong="H0559" unto him, If the men|strong="H0582" come|strong="H0935" to call|strong="H7121" thee, rise up|strong="H6965", and go|strong="H3212" with them; but yet|strong="H0389" the word|strong="H1697" which I shall say|strong="H1696" unto thee, that shalt thou do|strong="H6213".
And Balaam|strong="H1109" rose up|strong="H6965" in the morning|strong="H1242", and saddled|strong="H2280" his ass|strong="H0860", and went|strong="H3212" with the princes|strong="H8269" of Moab|strong="H4124".
And God’s|strong="H0430" anger|strong="H0639" was kindled|strong="H2734" because he went|strong="H1980": and the angel|strong="H4397" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* stood|strong="H3320" in the way|strong="H1870" for an adversary|strong="H7854" against him. Now he was riding|strong="H7392" upon his ass|strong="H0860", and his two|strong="H8147" servants|strong="H5288" were with him.
And the ass|strong="H0860" saw|strong="H7200" the angel|strong="H4397" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* standing|strong="H5324" in the way|strong="H1870", and his sword|strong="H2719" drawn|strong="H8025" in his hand|strong="H3027": and the ass|strong="H0860" turned aside|strong="H5186" out of the way|strong="H1870", and went|strong="H3212" into the field|strong="H7704": and Balaam|strong="H1109" smote|strong="H5221" the ass|strong="H0860", to turn|strong="H5186" her into the way|strong="H1870".
But the angel|strong="H4397" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* stood|strong="H5975" in a path|strong="H4934" of the vineyards|strong="H3754", a wall|strong="H1447" being on this side, and a wall|strong="H1447" on that side.
And when the ass|strong="H0860" saw|strong="H7200" the angel|strong="H4397" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, she thrust|strong="H3905" herself unto the wall|strong="H7023", and crushed|strong="H3905" Balaam’s|strong="H1109" foot|strong="H7272" against the wall|strong="H7023": and he smote|strong="H5221" her again|strong="H3254".
And the angel|strong="H4397" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* went|strong="H5674" further|strong="H3254", and stood|strong="H5975" in a narrow|strong="H6862" place|strong="H4725", where was no way|strong="H1870" to turn|strong="H5186" either to the right hand|strong="H3225" or to the left|strong="H8040".
And when the ass|strong="H0860" saw|strong="H7200" the angel|strong="H4397" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, she fell down|strong="H7257" under Balaam|strong="H1109": and Balaam’s|strong="H1109" anger|strong="H0639" was kindled|strong="H2734", and he smote|strong="H5221" the ass|strong="H0860" with a staff|strong="H4731".
And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* opened|strong="H6605" the mouth|strong="H6310" of the ass|strong="H0860", and she said|strong="H0559" unto Balaam|strong="H1109", What have I done|strong="H6213" unto thee, that thou hast smitten|strong="H5221" me these three|strong="H7969" times|strong="H7272"?
And Balaam|strong="H1109" said|strong="H0559" unto the ass|strong="H0860", Because thou hast mocked|strong="H5953" me: I would|strong="H3863" there were|strong="H3426" a sword|strong="H2719" in mine hand|strong="H3027", for now would I kill|strong="H2026" thee.
And the ass|strong="H0860" said|strong="H0559" unto Balaam|strong="H1109", Am not I thine ass|strong="H0860", upon which thou hast ridden|strong="H7392" ever since I was thine unto this day|strong="H3117"? was I ever|strong="H5532" wont|strong="H5532" to do so|strong="H6213" unto thee? And he said|strong="H0559", Nay.
Then the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* opened|strong="H1540" the eyes|strong="H5869" of Balaam|strong="H1109", and he saw|strong="H7200" the angel|strong="H4397" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* standing|strong="H5324" in the way|strong="H1870", and his sword|strong="H2719" drawn|strong="H8025" in his hand|strong="H3027": and he bowed down|strong="H6915" his head, and fell flat|strong="H7812" on his face|strong="H0639".
And the angel|strong="H4397" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten|strong="H5221" thine ass|strong="H0860" these three|strong="H7969" times|strong="H7272"? behold, I went out|strong="H3318" to withstand|strong="H7854" thee, because thy way|strong="H1870" is perverse|strong="H3399" before me:
And the ass|strong="H0860" saw|strong="H7200" me, and turned|strong="H5186" from me|strong="H6440" these three|strong="H7969" times|strong="H7272": unless|strong="H0194" she had turned|strong="H5186" from me|strong="H6440", surely now also I had slain|strong="H2026" thee, and saved her alive|strong="H2421".
And Balaam|strong="H1109" said|strong="H0559" unto the angel|strong="H4397" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, I have sinned|strong="H2398"; for I knew|strong="H3045" not that thou stoodest|strong="H5324" in the way|strong="H1870" against|strong="H7125" me: now therefore, if it displease thee|strong="H7489", I will get me back again|strong="H7725".
And the angel|strong="H4397" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto Balaam|strong="H1109", Go|strong="H3212" with the men|strong="H0582": but only|strong="H0657" the word|strong="H1697" that I shall speak|strong="H1696" unto thee, that thou shalt speak|strong="H1696". So Balaam|strong="H1109" went|strong="H3212" with the princes|strong="H8269" of Balak|strong="H1111".
And when Balak|strong="H1111" heard|strong="H8085" that Balaam|strong="H1109" was come|strong="H0935", he went out|strong="H3318" to meet|strong="H7125" him unto a city|strong="H5892" of Moab|strong="H4124", which is in the border|strong="H1366" of Arnon|strong="H0769", which is in the utmost|strong="H7097" coast|strong="H1366".
And Balak|strong="H1111" said|strong="H0559" unto Balaam|strong="H1109", Did I not earnestly|strong="H7971" send|strong="H7971" unto thee to call|strong="H7121" thee? wherefore camest|strong="H1980" thou not unto me? am I not able|strong="H3201" indeed|strong="H0552" to promote thee to honour|strong="H3513"?
And Balaam|strong="H1109" said|strong="H0559" unto Balak|strong="H1111", Lo, I am come|strong="H0935" unto thee: have I now any power|strong="H3201" at all|strong="H3201" to say|strong="H1696" any thing|strong="H3972"? the word|strong="H1697" that God|strong="H0430" putteth|strong="H7760" in my mouth|strong="H6310", that shall I speak|strong="H1696".
And Balaam|strong="H1109" went|strong="H3212" with Balak|strong="H1111", and they came|strong="H0935" unto Kirjath-huzoth|strong="H2351".
And Balak|strong="H1111" offered|strong="H2076" oxen|strong="H1241" and sheep|strong="H6629", and sent|strong="H7971" to Balaam|strong="H1109", and to the princes|strong="H8269" that were with him.
And it came to pass on the morrow|strong="H1242", that Balak|strong="H1111" took|strong="H3947" Balaam|strong="H1109", and brought him up|strong="H5927" into the high places|strong="H1116" of Baal|strong="H1120", that thence he might see|strong="H7200" the utmost|strong="H7097" part of the people|strong="H5971".
