1 And the sones of Israel and al the multitude camen in to the deseert of Syn, in the firste monethe. And the puple dwellide in Cades; and Marie was deed there, and biried in the same place.
1 Toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel chegou ao deserto de Zim, no primeiro mês, e o povo ficou em Cades. Ali Miriã morreu e ali ela foi sepultada.
2 And whanne the puple hadde nede to watir, thei yeden togidere ayens Moises and Aaron; and thei weren turned in to dissensioun,
2 Não havia água para o povo. Então se ajuntaram contra Moisés e contra Arão.
3 and seiden, We wolden that we hadden perischid among oure britheren bifor the Lord.
3 E o povo discutiu com Moisés, dizendo: — Antes tivéssemos morrido quando os nossos irmãos morreram diante do
4 Whi han ye led out the chirche of the Lord in to wildirnesse, that bothe we and oure beestis die?
4 Por que vocês trouxeram a congregação do Senhor a este deserto, para morrermos aqui, nós e os nossos animais?
5 Whi han ye maad vs to stie from Egipt, and han brouyt vs in to this werste place, which may not be sowun, which nether bryngith forth fige tre, nether vineris, nether pumgranatis, ferthermore and hath not watir to drynke?
5 E por que vocês nos tiraram do Egito, para nos trazer a este lugar horrível, onde não há cereais, nem figos, nem vinhas, nem romãs, nem água para beber?
6 And whanne the multitude was left, Moises and Aaron entriden in to the tabernacle of boond of pees, and felden lowe to erthe, and crieden to God, and seiden, Lord God, here the cry of this puple, and opene to hem thi tresour, a welle of quyk watir, that whanne thei ben fillid, the grutchyng of hem ceesse. And the glorie of the Lord apperide on hem;
6 Então Moisés e Arão saíram da presença do povo e foram para a porta da tenda do encontro e se lançaram sobre o seu rosto; e a glória do Senhor lhes apareceu.
7 and the Lord spak to Moises,
7 O Senhor disse a Moisés:
8 and seide, Take the yerde, and gadere the puple, thou, and Aaron thi brother; and speke ye to the stoon bifore hem, and it schal yyue watris. And whanne thou hast led watir out of the stoon, al the multitude schal drynke, and the beestis therof `schulden drynke.
8 — Pegue o seu bordão e ajunte o povo, você e Arão, o seu irmão. E, diante do povo, falem à rocha, e ela dará a sua água. Assim vocês tirarão água da rocha e darão de beber à congregação e aos animais.
9 Therfor Moises took the yerde that was in the `siyt of the Lord, as the Lord comaundide to hym,
9 Então Moisés pegou o bordão que estava diante do Senhor , como este lhe havia ordenado.
10 whanne the multitude was gaderid bifor the stoon; and he seide to hem, Here ye, rebel and vnbileueful; whether we moun brynge out of this stoon watir to you?
10 Moisés e Arão reuniram o povo diante da rocha. Então Moisés lhes disse: — Agora escutem, rebeldes! Será que teremos de fazer com que saia água desta rocha para vocês?
11 And whanne Moises hadde reisid the hond, and hadde smyte the flynt twies with the yerde, largeste watris yeden out, so that the puple drank, and the beestis drunken.
11 Moisés levantou a mão e feriu a rocha duas vezes com o seu bordão, e saíram muitas águas; e a congregação e os seus animais beberam.
12 And the Lord seide to Moises and to Aaron, For ye bileueden not to me, that ye schulden halewe me bifor the sones of Israel, ye schulen not lede these puples in to the lond which Y schal yyue to hem.
12 Mas o Senhor disse a Moisés e a Arão: — Porque não creram em mim, para me santificarem diante dos filhos de Israel, vocês não farão entrar este povo na terra que lhe dei.
13 This is the watir of ayenseiyng; there the sones of Israel stryueden ayens the Lord, and he was halewid in hem.
13 São estas as águas de Meribá, porque os filhos de Israel discutiram com o Senhor ; e o Senhor se santificou neles.
14 In the meene tyme Moises sente messangeres fro Cades to the kyng of Edom, whiche seiden, Israel thi brother sendith these thinges. Thou knowist al the trauel that took vs,
14 De Cades, Moisés enviou mensageiros ao rei de Edom, para dizer-lhe: — Assim diz o seu irmão Israel: Você conhece todas as aflições que nos sobrevieram.
15 hou oure fadris yeden doun in to Egipt, and we dwelliden there myche tyme, and Egipcians turmentiden vs and oure fadris; and hou we crieden to the Lord,
15 Sabe como os nossos pais desceram ao Egito, e nós moramos no Egito muito tempo, e como os egípcios nos maltrataram, a nós e aos nossos pais.
16 and he herde vs, and sente an aungel that ledde vs out of Egipt. And lo! we ben set in the citee of Cades, which is in thi laste coostis,
16 Clamamos ao Senhor , e ele ouviu a nossa voz; mandou o Anjo e nos tirou do Egito. E eis que estamos em Cades, cidade nos confins do seu país.
17 and we bisechen that it be leueful to vs to passe thorou thi lond; we schulen not go bi feeldis, nether bi vyneris, nether we schulen drynke watris of thi pittis; but we schulen go in the comyn weie, and we schulen not bowe to the riyt side, nether to the left side, til we passen thi termes.
17 Deixe-nos passar pela sua terra. Não passaremos pelo campo, nem pelas vinhas, nem beberemos a água dos poços. Iremos pela estrada real. Não nos desviaremos para a direita nem para a esquerda, até que passemos pelo seu país.
18 To whom Edom answeride, Ye schulen not passe bi me, ellis Y schal be armed, and come ayens thee.
18 Porém o rei de Edom respondeu: — Não passem por aqui! Se o fizerem, sairei com a espada ao encontro de vocês.
19 And the sones of Israel seiden, We schulen go bi the weie comynli vsid, and if we and oure beestis drynken thi watris, we schulen yyue that that is iust; noon hardnesse schal be in prijs, onely passe we swiftli.
19 Então os filhos de Israel lhe disseram: — Passaremos pelo caminho principal, e, se nós e o nosso gado bebermos das águas de vocês, pagaremos o preço delas. Não queremos outra coisa a não ser passar a pé.
20 And he answeride, Ye schulen not passe. And anoon he yede out ayens Israel, with a multitude without noumbre, and `strong hond,
20 Mas o rei de Edom respondeu: — Vocês não podem passar! E o rei de Edom veio ao encontro deles, com muita gente e com mão forte.
21 nether he wolde assente to Israel bisechynge, that he schulde graunte passage bi hise coostis. Wherfor Israel turnede awey fro hym.
21 Assim os edomitas se recusaram a deixar Israel passar pelo seu país, e por isso Israel se desviou dali.
22 And whanne thei hadden moued tentis fro Cades, thei camen in to the hil of Hor, which is in the endis of the lond of Edom;
22 Então partiram de Cades, e os filhos de Israel, toda a congregação, foram ao monte Hor.
23 where the Lord spak to Moyses and seide, Aaron go to his puples;
23 O Senhor disse a Moisés e a Arão no monte Hor, nos confins da terra de Edom:
24 for he schal not entre in to the lond which Y yaf to the sones of Israel, for he was vnbileueful to my mouth, at the watris of ayenseiyng.
24 — Arão será reunido ao seu povo, porque não entrará na terra que dei aos filhos de Israel, pois vocês foram rebeldes à minha palavra, nas águas de Meribá.
25 Take thou Aaron, and his sone with hym, and thou schalt lede hem in to the hil of Hor;
25 Chame Arão e Eleazar, o filho dele, e diga-lhes que subam o monte Hor.
26 and whanne thou hast maad nakid the fadir of his cloth, thou schalt clothe `with it Eleazar, his sone, and Aaron schal be gederid, and schal die there.
26 Depois tire as vestes sacerdotais de Arão e coloque-as em Eleazar, o filho dele; porque Arão será reunido ao seu povo e ali morrerá.
27 Moises dide as the Lord comaundide; and thei stieden in to the hil of Hor, bifor al the multitude.
27 Moisés fez como o Senhor lhe havia ordenado. Subiram o monte Hor, diante dos olhos de toda a congregação.
28 And whanne he hadde maad nakid Aaron of hise clothis, he clothide with tho Eleazar, his sone.
28 Moisés tirou as vestes sacerdotais de Arão e as pôs em Eleazar, o filho dele. E Arão morreu ali, no alto do monte. Depois disso Moisés e Eleazar desceram do monte.
29 Sotheli whanne Aaron was deed in the `cop of the hil, Moises cam doun with Eleazar.
29 Quando toda a congregação soube que Arão era morto, toda a casa de Israel chorou por Arão durante trinta dias.
30 Sotheli al the multitude siy that Aaron was deed, and wepte on hym thretti daies, bi alle her meyness.
