1 You are therefore without excuse, O man, whoever you are who sit in judgement upon others. For when you pass judgement on your fellow man, you condemn yourself; for you who sit in judgement upon others are guilty of the same misdeeds;
1 Portanto, és inescusável quando julgas, ó homem, quem quer que sejas, porque te condenas a ti mesmo naquilo em que julgas a outro; pois tu, que julgas, fazes o mesmo.
2 and we know that God's judgement against those who commit such sins is in accordance with the truth.
2 E bem sabemos que o juízo de Deus é segundo a verdade sobre os que tais coisas fazem.
3 And you who pronounce judgement upon those who do such things although your own conduct is the same as theirs–do you imagine that you yourself will escape unpunished when God judges?
3 E tu, ó homem, que julgas os que fazem tais coisas, cuidas que, fazendo-as tu, escaparás ao juízo de Deus?
4 Or is it that you think slightingly of His infinite goodness, forbearance and patience, unaware that the goodness of God is gently drawing you to repentance?
4 Ou desprezas tu as riquezas da sua benignidade, e paciência, e longanimidade, ignorando que a benignidade de Deus te leva ao arrependimento?
5 The fact is that in the stubbornness of your impenitent heart you are treasuring up against yourself anger on the day of Anger–the day when the righteousness of God's judgements will stand revealed.
5 Mas, segundo a tua dureza e teu coração impenitente, entesouras ira para ti no dia da ira e da manifestação do juízo de Deus,
6 -To each man He will make an award corresponding to his actions;-
6 o qual recompensará cada um segundo as suas obras,
7 to those on the one hand who, by lives of persistent right-doing, are striving for glory, honour and immortality, the Life of the Ages;
7 a saber: a vida eterna aos que, com perseverança em fazer bem, procuram glória, e honra, e incorrupção;
8 while on the other hand upon the self-willed who disobey the truth and obey unrighteousness will fall anger and fury, affliction and awful distress,
8 mas indignação e ira aos que são contenciosos e desobedientes à verdade e obedientes à iniquidade;
9 coming upon the soul of every man and woman who deliberately does wrong–upon the Jew first, and then upon the Gentile;
9 tribulação e angústia sobre toda alma do homem que faz o mal, primeiramente do judeu e também do grego;
10 whereas glory, honour and peace will be given to every one who does what is good and right–to the Jew first and then to the Gentile.
10 glória, porém, e honra e paz a qualquer que faz o bem, primeiramente ao judeu e também ao grego;
11 For God pays no attention to this world's distinctions.
11 porque, para com Deus, não há acepção de pessoas.
12 For all who have sinned apart from the Law will also perish apart from the Law, and all who have sinned whilst living under the Law, will be judged by the Law.
12 Porque todos os que sem lei pecaram sem lei também perecerão; e todos os que sob a lei pecaram pela lei serão julgados.
13 It is not those that merely hear the Law read who are righteous in the sight of God, but it is those that obey the Law who will be pronounced righteous.
13 Porque os que ouvem a lei não são justos diante de Deus, mas os que praticam a lei hão de ser justificados.
14 For when Gentiles who have no Law obey by natural instinct the commands of the Law, they, without having a Law, are a Law to themselves;
14 Porque, quando os gentios, que não têm lei, fazem naturalmente as coisas que são da lei, não tendo eles lei, para si mesmos são lei,
15 since they exhibit proof that a knowledge of the conduct which the Law requires is engraven on their hearts, while their consciences also bear witness to the Law, and their thoughts, as if in mutual discussion, accuse them or perhaps maintain their innocence–
15 os quais mostram a obra da lei escrita no seu coração, testificando juntamente a sua consciência e os seus pensamentos, quer acusando-os, quer defendendo-os,
16 on the day when God will judge the secrets of men's lives by Jesus Christ, as declared in the Good News as I have taught it.
16 no dia em que Deus há de julgar os segredos dos homens, por Jesus Cristo, segundo o meu evangelho.
17 And since you claim the name of Jew, and find rest and satisfaction in the Law, and make your boast in God,
17 Eis que tu, que tens por sobrenome judeu, e repousas na lei, e te glorias em Deus;
18 and know the supreme will, and can test things that differ –being a man who receives instruction from the Law–
18 e sabes a sua vontade, e aprovas as coisas excelentes, sendo instruído por lei;
19 and have persuaded yourself that, as for you, you are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,
19 e confias que és guia dos cegos, luz dos que estão em trevas,
20 a schoolmaster for the dull and ignorant, a teacher of the young, because in the Law you possess an outline of real knowledge and an outline of the truth:
20 instruidor dos néscios, mestre de crianças, que tens a forma da ciência e da verdade na lei;
21 you then who teach your fellow man, do you refuse to teach yourself? You who cry out against stealing, are you yourself a thief?
21 tu, pois, que ensinas a outro, não te ensinas a ti mesmo? Tu, que pregas que não se deve furtar, furtas?
22 You who forbid adultery, do you commit adultery? You who loathe idols, do you plunder their temples?
22 Tu, que dizes que não se deve adulterar, adulteras? Tu, que abominas os ídolos, cometes sacrilégio?
23 You who make your boast in the Law, do you offend against its commands and so dishonour God?
23 Tu, que te glorias na lei, desonras a Deus pela transgressão da lei?
24 -For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentile nations because of you,- as Holy Writ declares.
24 Porque, como está escrito, o nome de Deus é blasfemado entre os gentios por causa de vós.
25 Circumcision does indeed profit, if you obey the Law; but if you are a Law-breaker, the fact that you have been circumcised counts for nothing.
25 Porque a circuncisão é, na verdade, proveitosa, se tu guardares a lei; mas, se tu és transgressor da lei, a tua circuncisão se torna em incircuncisão.
26 In the same way if an uncircumcised man pays attention to the just requirements of the Law, shall not his lack of circumcision be overlooked, and,
26 Se, pois, a incircuncisão guardar os preceitos da lei, porventura, a incircuncisão não será reputada como circuncisão?
27 although he is a Gentile by birth, if he scrupulously obeys the Law, shall he not sit in judgement upon you who, possessing, as you do, a written Law and circumcision, are yet a Law-breaker?
27 E a incircuncisão que por natureza o é, se cumpre a lei, não te julgará, porventura, a ti, que pela letra e circuncisão és transgressor da lei?
28 For the true Jew is not the man who is simply a Jew outwardly, and true circumcision is not that which is outward and bodily.
28 Porque não é judeu o que o é exteriormente, nem é circuncisão a que o é exteriormente na carne.
29 But the true Jew is one inwardly, and true circumcision is heart-circumcision–not literal, but spiritual; and such people receive praise not from men, but from God.
29 Mas é judeu o que o é no interior, e circuncisão, a que é do coração, no espírito, não na letra, cujo louvor não provém dos homens, mas de Deus.
