1 Then did the sons of Israel break up,and encamp in the waste plains of Moab, on the other side of the Jordan by Jericho.
1 Depois, partiram os filhos de Israel e acamparam-se nas campinas de Moabe, desta banda do Jordão, de Jericó.
2 And Balak son of Zipper saw all that Israel had done unto the Amorites;
2 Viu, pois, Balaque, filho de Zipor, tudo o que Israel fizera aos amorreus.
3 and Moab shrank with great fear from the presence of the people because, many, they were,and Moab was alarmed at the presence of the sons of Israel.
3 E Moabe temeu muito diante deste povo, porque era muito; e Moabe andava angustiado por causa dos filhos de Israel.
4 So Moab said unto the elders of MidianNow, shall the gathered host lick up all that are round about us, as the ox doth lick up the verdure of the field. But, Balak son of Zippor, was king unto Moab at that time.
4 Pelo que Moabe disse aos anciãos dos midianitas: Agora lamberá esta congregação tudo quanto houver ao redor de nós, como o boi lambe a erva do campo. Naquele tempo, Balaque, filho de Zipor, era rei dos moabitas.
5 So he sent messengers unto Balaam son of Boor, to Pethor which was by the river of the land of the sons of his people to call him,saying Lo! a people, hath come forth out of Egypt Lo! he hath covered the eye of the land, Yea he, is tarrying over against me.
5 Este enviou mensageiros a Balaão, filho de Beor, a Petor, que está junto ao rio, na terra dos filhos do seu povo, a chamá-lo, dizendo: Eis que um povo saiu do Egito; eis que cobre a face da terra e parado está defronte de mim.
6 Now, therefore, do come, I pray thee curse me this people. For stronger, he is than I, If peradventure I prevail, we shall smite him, That I may drive him out of the land,For I know that, he whom thou dost bless, is to be blessed, And the whom thou dost curse, is to be cursed.
6 Vem, pois, agora, rogo-te, amaldiçoa-me este povo, pois mais poderoso é do que eu; para ver se o poderei ferir e o lançarei fora da terra; porque eu sei que a quem tu abençoares será abençoado e a quem tu amaldiçoares será amaldiçoado.
7 And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian went their way, with the rewards of divination in their hand,so they came in unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.
7 Então, foram-se os anciãos dos moabitas e os anciãos dos midianitas com o preço dos encantamentos nas mãos; e chegaram a Balaão e lhe disseram as palavras de Balaque.
8 And he said unto themTarry ye here for the night, and I will bring you back word, as Yahweh shall speak unto me. So the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.
8 E ele lhes disse: Passai aqui esta noite, e vos trarei a resposta, como o Senhor me falar; então, os príncipes dos moabitas ficaram com Balaão.
9 And God came in unto Balaam,and said, Who are these men with thee?
9 E veio Deus a Balaão e disse: Quem são estes homens que estão contigo?
10 Then said Balaam unto God,Balak, son of Zipper king of Moab, hath sent unto me:
10 E Balaão disse a Deus: Balaque, filho de Zipor, rei dos moabitas, m os enviou, dizendo:
11 Lo! the people that hath come forth out of Egypthe covereth the eye of the land. Now, do come, do revile me him, Peradventure I shall prevail in making war with him, And shall drive him out.
11 Eis que o povo que saiu do Egito cobriu a face da terra; vem, agora, amaldiçoa-mo; porventura, poderei pelejar contra ele e o lançarei fora.
12 And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them,Thou shalt not curse the people, For blessed, he is.
12 Então, disse Deus a Balaão: Não irás com eles, nem amaldiçoarás a este povo, porquanto bendito é.
13 And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Get you into your own land,For Yahweh hath refused to let me go with you.
13 Então, Balaão levantou-se pela manhã e disse aos príncipes de Balaque: Ide à vossa terra, porque o Senhor recusa deixar-me ir convosco.
14 So the princes of Moab arose, and came in unto Balak,and said, Balaam refused to come with us.
14 E levantaram-se os príncipes dos moabitas, e vieram a Balaque, e disseram: Balaão recusou vir conosco.
15 Then added Balak again,to send princes, more and weightier than these.
15 Porém Balaque prosseguiu ainda em enviar mais príncipes e mais honrados do que aqueles,
16 And they came in unto Balaam,and said unto himThus, said Balak son of Zipper, Do not be withheld, I pray thee from coming unto me:
16 os quais vieram a Balaão e lhe disseram: Assim diz Balaque, filho de Zipor: Rogo-te que não te demores em vir a mim,
17 For I will honour, thee, exceedingly, and all that thou shalt say unto me, will I do. Do come therefore I pray thee oh revile me this people.
17 porque grandemente te honrarei e farei tudo o que me disseres; vem, pois, rogo-te, amaldiçoa-me este povo.
18 And Balaam responded and said unto the servants of Balak, Though Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the bidding of Yahweh my God, to do less or more.
18 Então, Balaão respondeu e disse aos servos de Balaque: Ainda que Balaque me desse a sua casa cheia de prata e de ouro, eu não poderia traspassar o mandado do Senhor , meu Deus, para fazer coisa pequena ou grande;
19 Now, therefore abide here, I pray you even ye,for the night,that I may get to know what further Yahweh may be speaking with me.
19 agora, pois, rogo-vos que também aqui fiqueis esta noite, para que eu saiba o que o Senhor me dirá mais.
20 And God came in unto Balaam, by night, and said unto himIf, to call thee, the men have come in, arise go with them,But only, the thing that I shall speak unto thee, that, shalt thou do.
20 Veio, pois, o Senhor a Balaão, de noite, e disse-lhe: Se aqueles homens te vieram chamar, levanta-te, vai com eles; todavia, farás o que eu te disser.
21 So Balaam arose in the morning, and sad-dled his ass,and went with the princes of Moab.
21 Então, Balaão levantou-se pela manhã, e albardou a sua jumenta, e foi-se com os príncipes de Moabe.
22 Then kindled the anger of God, because he was going, and the messenger of Yahweh stationed himself in the way, to withstand him,as he was riding upon his ass, his two young men being with him.
22 E a ira de Deus acendeu-se, porque ele se ia; e o Anjo do Senhor pôs-se-lhe no caminho por adversário; e ele ia caminhando, montado na sua jumenta, e dois de seus moços com ele.
23 And the ass saw the messenger of Yahweh stationed in the road with his drawn sword in his hand, so the ass turned aside out of the road and went into the field,and Balaam smote the ass, to make her turn back into the road.
23 Viu, pois, a jumenta o Anjo do Senhor que estava no caminho, com a sua espada desembainhada na mão; pelo que desviou-se a jumenta do caminho e foi-se pelo campo; então, Balaão espancou a jumenta para fazê-la tornar ao caminho.
24 But the messenger of Yahweh took his stand, in a hollow pass of the vineyards,with a fence on this side, and a fence on that side.
24 Mas o Anjo do Senhor pôs-se numa vereda de vinhas, havendo uma parede desta banda e uma parede da outra.
25 And when the ass saw the messenger of Yahweh, she squeezed herself against the wall, and squeezed the foot of Balaam against the wall,and again he smote her.
25 Vendo, pois, a jumenta o Anjo do Senhor , apertou-se contra a parede e apertou contra a parede o pé de Balaão; pelo que tornou a espancá-la.
26 And the messenger of Yahweh went on further, and took his stand in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn to the right hand or to the left.
26 Então, o Anjo do Senhor passou mais adiante e pôs-se num lugar estreito, onde não havia caminho para se desviar nem para a direita nem para a esquerda.
27 And, when the ass saw the messenger of Yahweh, she sank down under Balaam,then was Balaams anger kindled, and he smote the ass with the staff.
27 E, vendo a jumenta o Anjo do Senhor , deitou-se debaixo de Balaão; e a ira de Balaão acendeu-se, e espancou a jumenta com o bordão.
28 And Yahweh opened the mouth of the ass,and she said unto BalaamWhat have I done to thee, that thou hast smitten me, these three times?
28 Então, o Senhor abriu a boca da jumenta, a qual disse a Balaão: Que te fiz eu, que me espancaste estas três vezes?
29 And Balaam said unto the ass, Surely thou hast been making sport of me,Would there had been a sword in my hand, for, now, would I have slain thee.
29 E Balaão disse à jumenta: Porque zombaste de mim; tomara que tivera eu uma espada na mão, porque agora te mataria.
30 Then said the ass unto BalaamAm not I thine own ass on which thou hast ridden all thy life, until this day? Have I, been wont, to do unto thee, thus? And he said, Nay!
30 E a jumenta disse a Balaão: Porventura, não sou a tua jumenta, em que cavalgaste desde o tempo que eu fui tua até hoje? Costumei eu alguma vez fazer assim contigo? E ele respondeu: Não.
31 Then did Yahweh unveil the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the messenger of Yahweh stationed in the road, with his sword drawn in his hand,so he bent his head and bowed down before him.
31 Então, o Senhor abriu os olhos a Balaão, e ele viu o Anjo do Senhor , que estava no caminho, e a sua espada desembainhada na mão; pelo que inclinou a cabeça e prostrou-se sobre a sua face.
32 And the messenger of Yahweh said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass, these three times? Lo! I, myself, am come forth to withstand thee, because headlong was thy way before me.
32 Então, o Anjo do Senhor lhe disse: Por que já três vezes espancaste a tua jumenta? Eis que eu saí para ser teu adversário, porquanto o teu caminho é perverso diante de mim;
33 And the ass hath seen me, and hath turned aside at ray presence these three times: Unless she had turned aside from my presence, yea now even thee, had I slain, but, her, had I suffered to live.
33 porém a jumenta me viu e já três vezes se desviou de diante de mim; se ela se não desviara de diante de mim, na verdade que eu agora te mataria e a ela deixaria com vida.
34 Then said Balaam unto the messenger of YahwehI have sinned, for I knew not, that, thou, wast stationed to meet me in the road,Now, therefore, if it be displeasing in thine eyes, I must get me back again.
34 Então, Balaão disse ao Anjo do Senhor : Pequei, que não soube que estavas neste caminho para te opores a mim; e, agora, se parece mal aos teus olhos, tornar-me-ei.
35 And the messenger of Yahweh said unto BalaamGo with the men: Only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that, shalt thou speak. So Balaam went his way with the princes of Balak.
35 E disse o Anjo do Senhor a Balaão: Vai-te com estes homens, mas somente a palavra que eu falar a ti, esta falarás. Assim, Balaão foi-se com os príncipes de Balaque.
36 And Balak heard that Balaam, was coming,so he went forth to meet him unto a city of Moab which was upon the boundary of Arnon, which was in the utmost part of the boundary.
36 Ouvindo, pois, Balaque que Balaão vinha, saiu-lhe ao encontro até à cidade de Moabe, que está no termo de Arnom, na extremidade do termo dele.
37 And Balak said unto Balaam: Did I not, send, unto thee, to call thee? Wherefore didst thou not come unto me? Am I not in very deed, able to honour thee?
37 E Balaque disse a Balaão: Porventura, não enviei diligentemente a chamar-te? Por que não vieste a mim? Não posso eu na verdade honrar-te?
38 And Balaam said unto BalakLo! I am come unto thee, Now, can, I, possibly, promise any-thing? The word that God shall put in my mouth, that, must I speak.
38 Então, Balaão disse a Balaque: Eis que eu tenho vindo a ti; porventura, poderei eu agora de alguma forma falar alguma coisa? A palavra que Deus puser na minha boca, esta falarei.
39 So Balaam went with Balak,and they entered Kiriath-huzoth.
39 E Balaão foi com Balaque, e vieram a Quiriate-Huzote.
40 And Balak sacrificed herd and flock,and sent unto Balaam, and unto the princes that were with him.
40 Então, Balaque matou bois e ovelhas; e deles enviou a Balaão e aos príncipes que estavam com ele.
41 And it came to pass in the morning, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up the high places of Baal,and he saw from thence the utmost part of the people.
41 E sucedeu que, pela manhã, Balaque tomou a Balaão e o fez subir aos altos de Baal. E viu Balaão dali a última parte do povo.
