1 ALL who are slaves under the yoke must regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be profanely slandered.
1 Todos os que vivem sob o jugo da servidão considerem seus senhores dignos de toda honra, para que não sejam caluniados o nome de Deus e sua doutrina.
2 Those who have believing masters must not despise them because they are brothers, but rather work as slaves for them because those who are benefited by their good work are believers and beloved. Teach and urge these things.
2 E os que têm patrões que abraçaram a fé, nem por isto os menosprezem, sob pretexto de serem irmãos. Ao contrário, deverão servi-los ainda melhor, pelo fato de que eles são fiéis amados de Deus e participantes de seus benefícios. Tal deve ser o tema de teus ensinamentos e de tuas exortações.
3 If any one teaches otherwise and does not agree to wholesome words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to religious teaching,
3 Quem ensina de outra forma e discorda das salutares palavras de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, bem como da doutrina conforme à piedade,
4 he is conceited, knowing nothing, but morbidly fond of disputes and controversies from which come envy, strife, abusive language, wicked suspicions,
4 é um obcecado pelo orgulho, um ignorante, doentio por questões ociosas e contendas de palavras. Daí se originam a inveja, a discórdia, os insultos, as suspeitas injustas,
5 and wranglings of men of depraved minds who are destitute of the truth. They think of religion as a source of gain.
5 os vãos conflitos entre homens de coração corrompido e privados da verdade, que só vêem na piedade uma fonte de lucro.
6 Religion with contentment is a great source of gain.
6 Sem dúvida, grande fonte de lucro é a piedade, porém quando acompanhada de espírito de desprendimento.
7 For we brought nothing into the world and we cannot carry anything out.
7 Porque nada trouxemos ao mundo, como tampouco nada poderemos levar.
8 If we have food and clothing we will be content with these.
8 Tendo alimento e vestuário, contentemo-nos com isto.
9 But those who are determined to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and injurious passions which plunge men into destruction and ruin.
9 Aqueles que ambicionam tornar-se ricos caem nas armadilhas do demônio e em muitos desejos insensatos e nocivos, que precipitam os homens no abismo da ruína e da perdição.
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some men grasping for it have strayed from the faith and have pierced themselves with many pangs.
10 Porque a raiz de todos os males é o amor ao dinheiro. Acossados pela cobiça, alguns se desviaram da fé e se enredaram em muitas aflições.
11 But you, O man of God, must shun this. Pursue righteousness, piety, faith, love, endurance, gentleness.
11 Mas tu, ó homem de Deus, foge desses vícios e procura com todo empenho a piedade, a fé, a caridade, a paciência, a mansidão.
12 Play the grand hard game of the faith. Lay hold on life eternal, to which you have been called and have made the noble confession before many witnesses.
12 Combate o bom combate da fé. Conquista a vida eterna, para a qual foste chamado e fizeste aquela nobre profissão de fé perante muitas testemunhas.
13 I charge you in the presence of God who gives life to all, and Christ Jesus who before Pontius Pilate made the noble confession,
13 Em presença de Deus, que dá a vida a todas as coisas, e de Cristo Jesus, que ante Pôncio Pilatos abertamente testemunhou a verdade,
14 to keep the commandment stainless and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,
14 recomendo-te que guardes o mandamento sem mácula, irrepreensível, até a aparição de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo,
15 which in due time he will show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,
15 a qual a seu tempo será realizada pelo bem-aventurado e único Soberano, Rei dos reis e Senhor dos senhores,
16 who alone has immortality, who dwells in light unapproachable, whom no man has seen or can see. To him be honor and power eternal! Amen.
16 o único que possui a imortalidade e habita em luz inacessível, a quem nenhum homem viu, nem pode ver. A ele, honra e poder eterno! Amém.
17 Command those who are rich in this world not to be haughty nor to fix their hope on uncertain wealth, but on God who provides all things richly for our enjoyment.
17 Exorta os ricos deste mundo a que não sejam orgulhosos nem ponham sua esperança nas riquezas volúveis, mas em Deus, que nos dá abundantemente todas as coisas para delas fruirmos.
18 They must do good work, be rich in noble deeds, be generous, ready to share,
18 Que pratiquem o bem, se enriqueçam de boas obras, sejam generosos, comunicativos,
19 treasuring up for themselves a good fund for the future, that they may lay hold on the life that is real.
19 ajuntem um tesouro sólido e excelente para seu futuro, a fim de conquistarem a verdadeira vida.
20 O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, turning away from profane and empty talk and contradictions of what is falsely called "knowledge."
20 Ó Timóteo, guarda o bem que te foi confiado! Evita as conversas frívolas e mundanas, assim como as contradições de pretensa ciência.
21 Some while professing it have gone astray as regards the faith. Grace be with you all.
21 Alguns, por segui-las, se transviaram da fé. A graça esteja convosco.
