1 My soul is weary of my life; I will give free course to my complaint; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
1 A minha alma tem tédio da minha vida; darei livre curso à minha queixa, falarei na amargura da minha alma.
2 I will say unto God: Do not condemn me; make me know wherefore Thou contendest with me.
2 Direi a Deus: Não me condenes; faze-me saber por que contendes comigo.
3 Is it good unto Thee that Thou shouldest oppress, that Thou shouldest despise the work of Thy hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?
3 Parece-te bem que me oprimas, que rejeites o trabalho das tuas mãos e resplandeças sobre o conselho dos ímpios?
4 Hast Thou eyes of flesh? or seest Thou as man seeth?
4 Tens tu porventura olhos de carne? Vês tu como vê o homem?
5 Are Thy days as the days of man, or Thy years as a man's days,
5 São os teus dias como os dias do homem? Ou são os teus anos como os anos de um homem,
6 That Thou inquirest after mine iniquity, and searchest after my sin,
6 Para te informares da minha iniqüidade, e averiguares o meu pecado?
7 Although Thou knowest that I shall not be condemned; and there is none that can deliver out of Thy hand?
7 Bem sabes tu que eu não sou iníquo; todavia ninguém há que me livre da tua mão.
8 Thy hands have framed me and fashioned me together round about; yet Thou dost destroy me!
8 As tuas mãos me fizeram e me formaram completamente; contudo me consomes.
9 Remember, I beseech Thee, that Thou hast fashioned me as clay; and wilt Thou bring me into dust again?
9 Peço-te que te lembres de que como barro me formaste e me farás voltar ao pó.
10 Hast Thou not poured me out as milk, and curdled me like cheese?
10 Porventura não me vazaste como leite, e como queijo não me coalhaste?
11 Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews.
11 De pele e carne me vestiste, e de ossos e nervos me teceste.
12 Thou hast granted me life and favour, and Thy providence hath preserved my spirit.
12 Vida e misericórdia me concedeste; e o teu cuidado guardou o meu espírito.
13 Yet these things Thou didst hide in Thy heart; I know that this is with Thee;
13 Porém estas coisas as ocultaste no teu coração; bem sei eu que isto esteve contigo.
14 If I sin, then Thou markest me, and Thou wilt not acquit me from mine iniquity.
14 Se eu pecar, tu me observas; e da minha iniqüidade não me escusarás.
15 If I be wicked, woe unto me; and if I be righteous, yet shall I not lift up my head--being filled with ignominy and looking upon mine affliction.
15 Se for ímpio, ai de mim! E se for justo, não levantarei a minha cabeça; farto estou da minha ignomínia; e vê qual é a minha aflição,
16 And if it exalt itself, Thou huntest me as a lion; and again Thou showest Thyself marvellous upon me.
16 Porque se vai crescendo; tu me caças como a um leão feroz; tornas a fazer maravilhas para comigo.
17 Thou renewest Thy witnesses against me, and increasest Thine indignation upon me; host succeeding host against me.
17 Tu renovas contra mim as tuas testemunhas, e multiplicas contra mim a tua ira; reveses e combate estão comigo.
18 Wherefore then hast Thou brought me forth out of the womb? Would that I had perished, and no eye had seen me!
18 Por que, pois, me tiraste da madre? Ah! se então tivera expirado, e olho nenhum me visse!
19 I should have been as though I had not been; I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.
19 Então eu teria sido como se nunca fora; e desde o ventre seria levado à sepultura!
20 Are not my days few? Cease then, and let me alone, that I may take comfort a little,
20 Porventura não são poucos os meus dias? Cessa, pois, e deixa-me, para que por um pouco eu tome alento.
21 Before I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death;
21 Antes que eu vá para o lugar de que não voltarei, à terra da escuridão e da sombra da morte;
22 A land of thick darkness, as darkness itself; a land of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.
22 Terra escuríssima, como a própria escuridão, terra da sombra da morte e sem ordem alguma, e onde a luz é como a escuridão.
