2 God|strong="G2316" has|strong="G2316" not|strong="G3756" rejected his|strong="G1722" people|strong="G2992", whom|strong="G3739" he|strong="G3739" chose from|strong="G2596" the|strong="G1722" first|strong="G3588". 3 “Lord|strong="G2962", they|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2532" killed your|strong="G2962" prophets|strong="G4396", they|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2532" pulled down|strong="G2679" your|strong="G2962" altars|strong="G2379", and|strong="G2532" I|strong="G1473" only|strong="G3441" am|strong="G1473" left|strong="G5275"; and|strong="G2532" now|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" are|strong="G3588" eager to|strong="G2532" take|strong="G2532" my|strong="G2212" life|strong="G5590".”
4 But|strong="G3588" what|strong="G5101" was|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" divine|strong="G5538" response|strong="G5538"? “I|strong="G3004" have|strong="G3748" kept|strong="G2641" for|strong="G3756" myself|strong="G1683" seven|strong="G2035" thousand|strong="G2035" who|strong="G5101" have|strong="G3748" never|strong="G3756" bowed|strong="G2578" the|strong="G3588" knee|strong="G1119" to|strong="G3004" Baal.”

7 What|strong="G5101" follows from|strong="G3756" this|strong="G3778"? Why|strong="G5101", that|strong="G3739" Israel|strong="G2474" as|strong="G1161" a|strong="G1161" nation failed|strong="G3756" to|strong="G3756" secure what|strong="G5101" it|strong="G1161" was|strong="G3588" seeking|strong="G1934", while|strong="G1161" those|strong="G3588" whom|strong="G3739" God|strong="G3588" selected did|strong="G5101" secure it|strong="G1161".
8 The|strong="G2532" rest grew callous; as|strong="G2531" scripture|strong="G1125" says – “God|strong="G2316" has|strong="G2316" given|strong="G1325" them|strong="G3588" a|strong="G2532" deadness of|strong="G4151" mind|strong="G2532" – eyes|strong="G3788" that|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3361" to|strong="G2532" see and|strong="G2532" ears|strong="G3775" that|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3361" to|strong="G2532" hear – and|strong="G2532" it|strong="G2532" is|strong="G3588" so|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" this|strong="G3588" very|strong="G2532" day|strong="G2250".”
9 David|strong="G1138", too|strong="G2532", says|strong="G3004" – “May|strong="G2532" their|strong="G2532" feasts prove|strong="G1096" a|strong="G1096" snare|strong="G3803" and|strong="G2532" a|strong="G1096" trap|strong="G3803" to|strong="G1519" them|strong="G3588" – a|strong="G1096" hindrance and|strong="G2532" a|strong="G1096" retribution;

11 I|strong="G3767" ask|strong="G3004" then|strong="G3767" – “Was|strong="G1096" their|strong="G1438" stumbling to|strong="G1519" result|strong="G1519" in|strong="G1519" their|strong="G1438" fall|strong="G4098"?” Heaven forbid|strong="G1096"! On|strong="G1519" the|strong="G1519" contrary, through|strong="G2443" their|strong="G1438" falling|strong="G4098" away salvation|strong="G4991" has|strong="G1096" reached|strong="G1096" the|strong="G1519" Gentiles|strong="G1484", to|strong="G1519" stir the|strong="G1519" rivalry of|strong="G3588" Israel.
12 And|strong="G2532", if|strong="G1487" their|strong="G2532" falling away has|strong="G2889" enriched the|strong="G2532" world|strong="G2889", and|strong="G2532" their|strong="G2532" failure|strong="G2275" has|strong="G2889" enriched the|strong="G2532" Gentiles|strong="G1484", how|strong="G4214" much|strong="G4214" more|strong="G3123" will|strong="G2532" result from|strong="G2532" their|strong="G2532" full|strong="G4138" restoration!
13 But|strong="G1161" I|strong="G1473" am|strong="G1510" speaking|strong="G3004" to|strong="G1909" you|strong="G5210" who|strong="G3588" were|strong="G1510" Gentiles|strong="G1484".
14 Being|strong="G2532" myself|strong="G1473" an|strong="G2532" apostle to|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" Gentiles, I|strong="G1473" exalt|strong="G5100" my|strong="G1473" office, in|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" hope|strong="G2532" that|strong="G3588" I|strong="G1473" may|strong="G2532" stir my|strong="G1473" countrymen|strong="G4561" to|strong="G2532" rivalry, and|strong="G2532" so|strong="G2532" save|strong="G4982" some|strong="G5100" of|strong="G1537" them|strong="G3588".
15 For|strong="G1063", if|strong="G1487" their|strong="G3588" being|strong="G3361" cast aside has|strong="G5101" meant the|strong="G1537" reconciliation|strong="G2643" of|strong="G1537" the|strong="G1537" world|strong="G2889", what|strong="G5101" will|strong="G5101" their|strong="G3588" reception mean|strong="G5101", but|strong="G1487" life|strong="G2222" from|strong="G1537" the|strong="G1537" dead|strong="G3498"?
16 If|strong="G1487" the|strong="G2532" first|strong="G3588" handful of|strong="G2532" dough is|strong="G3588" holy, so|strong="G2532" is|strong="G3588" the|strong="G2532" whole mass, and|strong="G2532" if|strong="G1487" the|strong="G2532" root|strong="G4491" is|strong="G3588" holy, so|strong="G2532" are|strong="G3588" the|strong="G2532" branches|strong="G2798".
17 Some|strong="G5100", however|strong="G1161", of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" branches|strong="G2798" were|strong="G1510" broken|strong="G1575" off|strong="G1575", and|strong="G2532" you|strong="G4771", who|strong="G3588" were|strong="G1510" only|strong="G1487" a|strong="G1096" wild|strong="G2532" olive|strong="G1636", were|strong="G1510" grafted|strong="G1461" in|strong="G1722" among|strong="G1722" them|strong="G3588", and|strong="G2532" came|strong="G1096" to|strong="G2532" share with|strong="G1722" them|strong="G3588" the|strong="G1722" root|strong="G4491" which|strong="G3588" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G1722" source of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" richness of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" cultivated olive|strong="G1636".
18 Yet|strong="G1161" do|strong="G3361" not|strong="G3756" exult over|strong="G2620" the|strong="G1161" other|strong="G1161" branches|strong="G2798". But|strong="G1161", if|strong="G1487" you|strong="G4771" do|strong="G3361" exult over|strong="G2620" them|strong="G3588", remember that|strong="G3588" you|strong="G4771" do|strong="G3361" not|strong="G3756" support the|strong="G1161" root|strong="G4491", but|strong="G1161" that|strong="G3588" the|strong="G1161" root|strong="G4491" supports you|strong="G4771".
19 But|strong="G3767" branches|strong="G2798", you|strong="G3004" will|strong="G1473" say|strong="G3004", were|strong="G2798" broken|strong="G1575" off|strong="G1575", so|strong="G2443" that|strong="G2443" I|strong="G1473" might|strong="G1473" be|strong="G2443" grafted|strong="G1461" in|strong="G3004".
20 True|strong="G3588", it|strong="G1161" was|strong="G3588" because|strong="G1161" of|strong="G4102" their|strong="G3588" want of|strong="G4102" faith|strong="G4102" that|strong="G3588" they|strong="G1161" were|strong="G3588" broken|strong="G1575" off|strong="G1575", and|strong="G1161" it|strong="G1161" is|strong="G3588" because|strong="G1161" of|strong="G4102" your|strong="G5426" faith|strong="G4102" that|strong="G3588" you|strong="G4771" are|strong="G3588" standing|strong="G2476". Do|strong="G5399" not|strong="G3361" think|strong="G5426" too highly|strong="G5308" of|strong="G4102" yourself|strong="G4771", but|strong="G1161" beware.
21 For|strong="G1063", if|strong="G1487" God|strong="G2316" did|strong="G2316" not|strong="G3756" spare|strong="G5339" the|strong="G2596" natural|strong="G5449" branches|strong="G2798", neither|strong="G3761" will|strong="G2316" he|strong="G3588" spare|strong="G5339" you|strong="G4771".
22 See|strong="G3708", then|strong="G3767", both|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" goodness|strong="G5544" and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" severity of|strong="G2316" God|strong="G2316" – his|strong="G1909" severity towards those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" fell|strong="G4098", and|strong="G2532" his|strong="G1909" goodness|strong="G5544" towards you|strong="G4771", provided that|strong="G3588" you|strong="G4771" continue|strong="G1961" to|strong="G2532" confide in|strong="G1909" that|strong="G3588" goodness|strong="G5544"; otherwise|strong="G1893" you|strong="G4771", also|strong="G2532", will|strong="G2316" be|strong="G2532" cut|strong="G1581" off|strong="G1581".

24 If|strong="G1487" you|strong="G4771" were|strong="G3588" cut|strong="G1581" off|strong="G1581" from|strong="G1537" your|strong="G2532" natural|strong="G5449" stock – a|strong="G2532" wild|strong="G2532" olive|strong="G1636" – and|strong="G2532" were|strong="G3588" grafted|strong="G1461", contrary|strong="G3844" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" course of|strong="G1537" nature|strong="G5449", on|strong="G1519" a|strong="G2532" good|strong="G3588" olive|strong="G1636", much|strong="G4214" more|strong="G3123" will|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" – the|strong="G2532" natural|strong="G5449" branches – be|strong="G2532" grafted|strong="G1461" back|strong="G1519" into|strong="G1519" their|strong="G2532" parent tree|strong="G1636".
25 My|strong="G1525" friends|strong="G3844", so|strong="G2443" that|strong="G3754" you|strong="G5210" don’t|strong="G3588" think too highly of|strong="G3844" yourselves|strong="G1438", I|strong="G3739" want|strong="G2309" you|strong="G5210" to|strong="G2443" recognise the|strong="G3588" truth, hitherto hidden, that|strong="G3754" the|strong="G3588" callousness which|strong="G3739" has|strong="G3739" come|strong="G1096" over|strong="G1096" Israel|strong="G2474" is|strong="G1510" only|strong="G3756" partial|strong="G3313", and|strong="G1484" will|strong="G2309" continue|strong="G1096" only|strong="G3756" until the|strong="G3588" whole Gentile|strong="G1484" world has|strong="G3739" been|strong="G1510" gathered in|strong="G1525".
26 And|strong="G2532" then|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3956" Israel|strong="G2474" will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" saved|strong="G4982". As|strong="G2531" scripture|strong="G1125" says – “From|strong="G1537" Zion|strong="G4622" will|strong="G2532" come|strong="G2240" the|strong="G2532" Deliverer|strong="G4506"; he|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" banish ungodliness from|strong="G1537" Jacob|strong="G2384".
27 And|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" see the|strong="G2532" fulfilment of|strong="G2532" my|strong="G1473" covenant|strong="G1242", when|strong="G3752" I|strong="G1473" have|strong="G2532" taken away their|strong="G2532" sins.”
28 From|strong="G2596" the|strong="G1161" standpoint|strong="G2596" of|strong="G1223" the|strong="G1161" good|strong="G1223" news|strong="G2098", the|strong="G1161" Jews are|strong="G3588" God|strong="G3588"’s enemies|strong="G2190" for|strong="G1223" your|strong="G1223" sake|strong="G1223"; but|strong="G1161" from|strong="G2596" the|strong="G1161" standpoint|strong="G2596" of|strong="G1223" God|strong="G3588"’s selection, they|strong="G1161" are|strong="G3588" dear to|strong="G2596" him|strong="G3588" for|strong="G1223" the|strong="G1161" sake|strong="G1223" of|strong="G1223" the|strong="G1161" patriarchs.
29 For|strong="G1063" God|strong="G2316" never regrets his|strong="G2532" gifts|strong="G5486" or|strong="G2532" his|strong="G2532" call|strong="G2532".
30 Just|strong="G5618" as|strong="G5618" you|strong="G5210" at|strong="G1161" one|strong="G3588" time|strong="G4218" were|strong="G3588" disobedient to|strong="G1161" him|strong="G3588", but|strong="G1161" have|strong="G1653" now|strong="G1161" found|strong="G1653" mercy|strong="G1653" in|strong="G2316" the|strong="G1161" day|strong="G3588" of|strong="G2316" their|strong="G3588" disobedience;

32 For|strong="G1063" God|strong="G2316" has|strong="G2316" given all|strong="G3956" alike over|strong="G1519" to|strong="G1519" disobedience, that|strong="G2443" to|strong="G1519" all|strong="G3956" alike he|strong="G3588" may|strong="G2443" show|strong="G1653" mercy|strong="G1653".
33 Oh|strong="G5599"! The|strong="G2532" unfathomable wisdom|strong="G4678" and|strong="G2532" knowledge|strong="G1108" of|strong="G2316" God|strong="G2316"! How|strong="G5613" inscrutable are|strong="G3588" his|strong="G2532" judgments|strong="G2917", how|strong="G5613" untraceable his|strong="G2532" ways|strong="G3598"! Yes –
34 ho has|strong="G2962" ever comprehended the|strong="G1063" mind|strong="G3563" of|strong="G2962" the|strong="G1063" Lord|strong="G2962"? Who|strong="G5101" has|strong="G2962" ever become|strong="G1096" his|strong="G2228" counsellor|strong="G4825"?
35 Or|strong="G2228" who|strong="G5101" has|strong="G5101" first|strong="G4272" given|strong="G4272" to|strong="G2532" him|strong="G2532", so|strong="G2532" that|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" may|strong="G2532" claim a|strong="G2532" reward?
36 For|strong="G3754" all|strong="G3956" things|strong="G3956" are|strong="G3588" from|strong="G1537" him|strong="G3588", through|strong="G1223" him|strong="G3588", and|strong="G2532" for|strong="G3754" him|strong="G3588".
