2 For|strong="G1063" a|strong="G2532" tent|strong="G4633" was|strong="G3588" constructed|strong="G2680", with|strong="G1722" an|strong="G2532" outer|strong="G4413" part|strong="G2532" which|strong="G3739" contained|strong="G3087" the|strong="G1722" stand for|strong="G1063" the|strong="G1722" lamps, and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" table|strong="G5132", and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" consecrated|strong="G4286" bread. This|strong="G3588" is|strong="G3588" called|strong="G3004" the|strong="G1722" sanctuary.
3 The|strong="G1161" part|strong="G1161" of|strong="G3588" the|strong="G1161" tent|strong="G4633" behind|strong="G3326" the|strong="G1161" second|strong="G1208" curtain|strong="G2665" is|strong="G3588" called|strong="G3004" the|strong="G1161" inner sanctuary.
4 In|strong="G1722" it|strong="G2532" is|strong="G3588" the|strong="G1722" gold|strong="G5553" incense-altar, and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" ark|strong="G2787" containing the|strong="G1722" covenant|strong="G1242", completely covered|strong="G4028" with|strong="G1722" gold|strong="G5553". In|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" ark|strong="G2787" is|strong="G3588" a|strong="G2192" gold|strong="G5553" casket containing the|strong="G1722" manna|strong="G3131", Aaron’s|strong="G2192" rod|strong="G4464" that|strong="G3739" budded, and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" tablets|strong="G4109" on|strong="G1722" which|strong="G3739" the|strong="G1722" covenant|strong="G1242" was|strong="G3588" written|strong="G3588";
5 while|strong="G1161" above|strong="G5231" it|strong="G1161", and|strong="G1161" overshadowing|strong="G2683" the|strong="G1161" cover on|strong="G2596" which|strong="G3739" atonement was|strong="G1510" made|strong="G3756", are|strong="G1510" the|strong="G1161" cherubim|strong="G5502" of|strong="G4012" the|strong="G1161" presence. Now|strong="G1161" is|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" the|strong="G1161" time|strong="G3568" to|strong="G2596" discuss these|strong="G3739" things|strong="G3588" in|strong="G2596" detail|strong="G3313".
6 Such|strong="G3779", then|strong="G1161", was|strong="G3588" the|strong="G1519" arrangement of|strong="G1223" the|strong="G1519" tent|strong="G4633". Into|strong="G1519" the|strong="G1519" outer|strong="G4413" part|strong="G1161" priests|strong="G2409" are|strong="G3588" constantly|strong="G1223" going|strong="G3778", in|strong="G1519" the|strong="G1519" discharge of|strong="G1223" their|strong="G3956" sacred duties;
7 but|strong="G1161" into|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" inner only|strong="G3441" the|strong="G2532" high|strong="G2532" priest|strong="G4374" goes, and|strong="G2532" that|strong="G3739" but|strong="G1161" once|strong="G3739" a|strong="G2532" year|strong="G1763", and|strong="G2532" never|strong="G3756" without|strong="G5565" taking the|strong="G2532" blood of|strong="G2532" a|strong="G2532" victim, which|strong="G3739" he|strong="G2532" offers|strong="G4374" on|strong="G1519" his|strong="G1438" own|strong="G1438" behalf|strong="G5228", and|strong="G2532" on|strong="G1519" behalf|strong="G5228" of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" errors of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" people|strong="G2992".
8 By|strong="G4151" this|strong="G3778" the|strong="G3588" Holy|strong="G4151" Spirit|strong="G4151" is|strong="G3588" teaching that|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" way|strong="G3598" into the|strong="G3588" sanctuary was|strong="G3588" hidden, as|strong="G3588" long as|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" outer|strong="G4413" part of|strong="G4151" the|strong="G3588" tent|strong="G4633" still|strong="G2089" remained.
9 For|strong="G1519" that|strong="G3739" was|strong="G3588" only|strong="G2532" a|strong="G2532" type|strong="G3850", to|strong="G1519" continue|strong="G2532" down|strong="G2596" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" present|strong="G1764" time|strong="G2540"; and|strong="G2532", in|strong="G1519" keeping with|strong="G2532" it|strong="G2532", both|strong="G2532" gifts|strong="G1435" and|strong="G2532" sacrifices|strong="G2378" are|strong="G3588" offered|strong="G4374", though|strong="G2532" incapable|strong="G3361" of|strong="G2532" satisfying the|strong="G2532" conscience|strong="G4893" of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" worshiper|strong="G3000";
10 the|strong="G2532" whole system being|strong="G2532" concerned only|strong="G3440" with|strong="G2532" food|strong="G1033" and|strong="G2532" drink|strong="G4188" and|strong="G2532" various|strong="G1313" ablutions – external ceremonials imposed|strong="G1945" until|strong="G3360" the|strong="G2532" coming of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" new order.
11 But|strong="G1161", when|strong="G1161" Christ|strong="G5547" came|strong="G1096", he|strong="G2532" appeared|strong="G1096" as|strong="G1161" high|strong="G3173" priest of|strong="G1223" that|strong="G3588" better system which|strong="G3588" was|strong="G1510" established; and|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" entered through|strong="G1223" that|strong="G3588" nobler and|strong="G2532" more|strong="G3173" perfect|strong="G5046" tent|strong="G4633", not|strong="G3756" made|strong="G1096" by|strong="G1223" human|strong="G5499" hands|strong="G5499" – that|strong="G3588" is|strong="G1510" to|strong="G2532" say|strong="G1223", not|strong="G3756" a|strong="G1096" part|strong="G1161" of|strong="G1223" this|strong="G3778" present|strong="G3854" creation|strong="G2937".
12 Nor|strong="G3761" was|strong="G3588" it|strong="G2532" with|strong="G1223" the|strong="G2532" blood of|strong="G1223" goats|strong="G5131" and|strong="G2532" calves|strong="G3448", but|strong="G1161" with|strong="G1223" his|strong="G1223" own|strong="G2398" blood, that|strong="G3588" he|strong="G2532" entered|strong="G1525", once|strong="G2178" and|strong="G2532" for|strong="G1519" all|strong="G2532", into|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" sanctuary, and|strong="G2532" obtained|strong="G2147" our|strong="G2532" eternal deliverance.
13 For|strong="G1063", if|strong="G1487" the|strong="G2532" blood of|strong="G2532" goats|strong="G5131" and|strong="G2532" bulls|strong="G5022", and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" sprinkling|strong="G4472" of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" ashes|strong="G4700" of|strong="G2532" a|strong="G2532" heifer|strong="G1151", purify those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" have|strong="G2532" been|strong="G2532" defiled|strong="G2840" (as|strong="G2532" far|strong="G3588" as|strong="G2532" ceremonial purification goes),
14 how|strong="G4214" much|strong="G4214" more|strong="G3123" will|strong="G2316" the|strong="G1519" blood of|strong="G4151" the|strong="G1519" Christ|strong="G5547", who|strong="G3739", through|strong="G1223" his|strong="G1438" eternal Spirit|strong="G4151", offered|strong="G4374" himself|strong="G1438" up|strong="G1519" to|strong="G1519" God|strong="G2316", as|strong="G1519" a|strong="G1519" victim without|strong="G1438" blemish, purify|strong="G2511" our|strong="G2316" consciences|strong="G4893" from|strong="G3588" a|strong="G1519" lifeless formality, and|strong="G2316" fit us|strong="G1519" for|strong="G1519" the|strong="G1519" service|strong="G3000" of|strong="G4151" the|strong="G1519" living|strong="G2198" God|strong="G2316"!
15 And|strong="G2532" that|strong="G3588" is|strong="G1510" why|strong="G1223" he|strong="G2532" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G2532" intermediary|strong="G3316" of|strong="G1223" a|strong="G1096" new|strong="G2537" covenant|strong="G1242"; in|strong="G1519" order|strong="G3704" that|strong="G3588", as|strong="G1519" a|strong="G1096" death|strong="G2288" has|strong="G1096" taken|strong="G2983" place|strong="G1096" to|strong="G1519" effect a|strong="G1096" deliverance from|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" offences committed under|strong="G1909" the|strong="G2532" first|strong="G4413" covenant|strong="G1242", those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" have|strong="G2532" received|strong="G2983" the|strong="G2532" call|strong="G2564" may|strong="G2532" obtain|strong="G2983" the|strong="G2532" eternal inheritance|strong="G2817" promised|strong="G1860" to|strong="G1519" them|strong="G3588".
16 Whenever|strong="G3699" such|strong="G3588" a|strong="G5342" covenant|strong="G1242" as|strong="G1063" a|strong="G5342" will is|strong="G3588" in|strong="G1063" question, the|strong="G3588" death|strong="G2288" of|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" testator|strong="G1303" must|strong="G3588" of|strong="G3588" necessity be|strong="G3588" alleged.
17 For|strong="G1063" such|strong="G3588" a|strong="G1909" covenant|strong="G1242" takes effect only on|strong="G1909" death|strong="G3498", it|strong="G1063" does|strong="G2198" not|strong="G3379" come into|strong="G1909" force|strong="G2480" as|strong="G1063" long|strong="G1909" as|strong="G1063" the|strong="G1909" testator|strong="G1303" is|strong="G3588" alive|strong="G2198".
18 This|strong="G3588" explains why even|strong="G3761" the|strong="G3588" first|strong="G4413" covenant was|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3761" ratified without|strong="G5565" the|strong="G3588" shedding of|strong="G3588" blood.
19 For|strong="G1063", when|strong="G2532" every|strong="G3956" command|strong="G1785" had|strong="G2532" been|strong="G2532" announced to|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3956" the|strong="G2532" people|strong="G2992" by|strong="G5259" Moses|strong="G3475" in|strong="G2596" accordance|strong="G2596" with|strong="G3326" the|strong="G2532" Law|strong="G3551", he|strong="G2532" took|strong="G2983" the|strong="G2532" blood of|strong="G5259" the|strong="G2532" calves|strong="G3448" and|strong="G2532" of|strong="G5259" the|strong="G2532" goats|strong="G5131", with|strong="G3326" water|strong="G5204", scarlet|strong="G2847" wool|strong="G2053", and|strong="G2532" a|strong="G2532" bunch of|strong="G5259" hyssop|strong="G5301", and|strong="G2532" sprinkled|strong="G4472" even|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" book|strong="G3588" of|strong="G5259" the|strong="G2532" Law|strong="G3551", as|strong="G2596" well|strong="G2532" as|strong="G2596" all|strong="G3956" the|strong="G2532" people|strong="G2992",
20 saying|strong="G3004", as|strong="G3739" he|strong="G3739" did|strong="G1781" so|strong="G4314" – ‘This|strong="G3778" is|strong="G3588" the|strong="G4314" blood that|strong="G3739" renders valid the|strong="G4314" covenant|strong="G1242" which|strong="G3739" God|strong="G2316" has|strong="G2316" commanded|strong="G1781" to|strong="G4314" be|strong="G2316" made|strong="G2316" with|strong="G4314" you|strong="G5210".’
21 And|strong="G2532" in|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" same|strong="G3668" way|strong="G3668" he|strong="G2532" also|strong="G2532" sprinkled|strong="G4472" with|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" blood the|strong="G2532" tent|strong="G4633" and|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3956" the|strong="G2532" things|strong="G3956" that|strong="G3588" were|strong="G3588" used in|strong="G2532" public worship.
22 Indeed|strong="G2532", under|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" Law|strong="G3551", almost|strong="G4975" everything|strong="G3956" is|strong="G3588" purified|strong="G2511" with|strong="G1722" blood; and|strong="G2532", unless|strong="G3756" blood is|strong="G3588" shed, no|strong="G3756" forgiveness is|strong="G3588" to|strong="G2532" be|strong="G1096" obtained|strong="G3756".
23 While|strong="G1722", then|strong="G3767", it|strong="G1161" was|strong="G3588" necessary|strong="G3767" for|strong="G1161" the|strong="G1722" copies|strong="G5262" of|strong="G3844" the|strong="G1722" heavenly|strong="G2032" realities to|strong="G1722" be|strong="G3588" purified|strong="G2511" by|strong="G1722" such|strong="G3778" means|strong="G1722" as|strong="G1722" these|strong="G3778", the|strong="G1722" heavenly|strong="G2032" realities themselves|strong="G3778" required|strong="G2909" better|strong="G2909" sacrifices|strong="G2378".
24 For|strong="G1063" it|strong="G1063" was|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3756" into|strong="G1519" a|strong="G1519" sanctuary made|strong="G5499" by|strong="G1519" human|strong="G5499" hands|strong="G5499", which|strong="G3588" merely foreshadowed the|strong="G1519" true|strong="G3588" one|strong="G3588", that|strong="G3588" Christ|strong="G5547" entered|strong="G1525", but|strong="G1063" into|strong="G1519" heaven|strong="G3772" itself, so|strong="G1519" that|strong="G3588" he|strong="G3588" might|strong="G2316" now|strong="G3568" appear|strong="G1718" in|strong="G1519" the|strong="G1519" presence|strong="G4383" of|strong="G2316" God|strong="G2316" on|strong="G1519" our|strong="G2316" behalf|strong="G5228".
25 Nor|strong="G3761" yet|strong="G3761" was|strong="G3588" it|strong="G2443" to|strong="G1519" offer|strong="G4374" himself|strong="G1438" many|strong="G4178" times|strong="G4178", as|strong="G5618" year|strong="G1763" after|strong="G2596" year|strong="G1763" the|strong="G1722" high priest|strong="G4374" entered|strong="G1525" the|strong="G1722" sanctuary with|strong="G1722" an|strong="G1519" offering|strong="G4374" of|strong="G1722" blood – but|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3761" his|strong="G1438" own|strong="G1438" blood;
26 for|strong="G1519" then|strong="G1161" Christ would|strong="G1893" have|strong="G1163" had|strong="G3588" to|strong="G1519" undergo death many|strong="G3958" times|strong="G4178" since|strong="G1893" the|strong="G1519" creation of|strong="G1223" the|strong="G1519" world|strong="G2889". But|strong="G1161" now|strong="G1161", once and|strong="G1161" for|strong="G1519" all|strong="G1161", at|strong="G1909" the|strong="G1519" close of|strong="G1223" the|strong="G1519" age|strong="G2889", he|strong="G1161" has|strong="G2889" appeared|strong="G5319", in|strong="G1519" order to|strong="G1519" abolish sin by|strong="G1223" the|strong="G1519" sacrifice|strong="G2378" of|strong="G1223" himself|strong="G1519".
27 And|strong="G2532", as|strong="G3745" it|strong="G2532" is|strong="G3588" ordained for|strong="G1161" people|strong="G3588" to|strong="G2532" die but|strong="G1161" once (death being|strong="G2532" followed by|strong="G2596" judgment|strong="G2920"),
28 so|strong="G3779" it|strong="G2532" is|strong="G3588" with|strong="G1537" the|strong="G2532" Christ|strong="G5547". He|strong="G2532" was|strong="G3588" offered|strong="G4374" up|strong="G1519" once and|strong="G2532" for|strong="G1519" all|strong="G2532", to|strong="G1519" bear|strong="G2532" away the|strong="G2532" sins of|strong="G1537" many|strong="G4183"; and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" second|strong="G1208" time|strong="G1208" he|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" appear|strong="G3708" – but|strong="G2532" without|strong="G5565" any|strong="G5565" burden of|strong="G1537" sin – to|strong="G1519" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" waiting for|strong="G1519" him|strong="G3588", to|strong="G1519" bring|strong="G2532" salvation|strong="G4991".
