1 Every|strong="G3956" high|strong="G3956" priest|strong="G4374", taken|strong="G2983" from|strong="G1537" among|strong="G1537" the|strong="G2532" people|strong="G3956", is|strong="G3588" appointed|strong="G2525" as|strong="G2532" their|strong="G2532" representative in|strong="G2532" their|strong="G2532" relations with|strong="G4314" God|strong="G2316", to|strong="G4314" offer|strong="G4374" both|strong="G2532" gifts|strong="G1435" and|strong="G2532" sacrifices|strong="G2378" in|strong="G2532" expiation of|strong="G1537" sins.
2 And|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" is|strong="G3588" able|strong="G1410" to|strong="G2532" sympathise with|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" ignorant and|strong="G2532" deluded, since|strong="G1893" he|strong="G2532" is|strong="G3588" himself subject to|strong="G2532" weakness,
3 and|strong="G2532" is|strong="G3588" therefore|strong="G1223" bound|strong="G3784" to|strong="G2532" offer|strong="G4374" sacrifices for|strong="G1223" sins, not|strong="G1223" only|strong="G2532" for|strong="G1223" the|strong="G2532" people|strong="G2992", but|strong="G2532" equally so|strong="G3779" for|strong="G1223" himself|strong="G1438".
4 Nor|strong="G2532" does|strong="G2316" anyone|strong="G5100" take|strong="G2983" that|strong="G3588" high|strong="G2532" office on|strong="G3588" themselves|strong="G1438", until|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2532" been|strong="G2532" called|strong="G2564" to|strong="G2532" do|strong="G2532" so|strong="G2532" by|strong="G5259" God|strong="G2316", as|strong="G2531" Aaron was|strong="G3588".
5 In|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" same|strong="G3779" way|strong="G3779", even|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" Christ|strong="G5547" did|strong="G2532" not|strong="G3756" take|strong="G1096" the|strong="G2532" honour|strong="G1392" of|strong="G5207" the|strong="G2532" high|strong="G2532" priesthood on|strong="G1096" himself|strong="G1438", but|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" was|strong="G1510" appointed by|strong="G4314" him|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" said|strong="G2980" to|strong="G4314" him|strong="G3588" –
6 and|strong="G2532" on|strong="G1722" another|strong="G2087" occasion also|strong="G2532" –
7 Jesus|strong="G2532", in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" days|strong="G2250" of|strong="G1537" his|strong="G1722" earthly|strong="G4561" life|strong="G4561", offered|strong="G4374" prayers|strong="G1162" and|strong="G2532" supplications|strong="G2428", with|strong="G3326" earnest cries|strong="G2906" and|strong="G2532" with|strong="G3326" tears|strong="G1144", to|strong="G4314" him|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3739" was|strong="G3588" able|strong="G1410" to|strong="G4314" save|strong="G4982" him|strong="G3588" from|strong="G1537" death|strong="G2288"; and|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" was|strong="G3588" heard|strong="G1522" because|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" his|strong="G1722" devout submission.
8 Son|strong="G5207" though|strong="G2539" he|strong="G3739" was|strong="G1510", he|strong="G3739" learned|strong="G3129" obedience|strong="G5218" from|strong="G3588" his|strong="G3739" sufferings|strong="G3958";
9 and|strong="G2532", being|strong="G1096" made|strong="G1096" perfect|strong="G5048", he|strong="G2532" became|strong="G1096" to|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3956" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" obey|strong="G5219" him|strong="G3588" the|strong="G2532" source of|strong="G2532" eternal salvation|strong="G4991",
10 while God|strong="G2316" himself pronounced him|strong="G3588" a|strong="G5259" high|strong="G2316" priest of|strong="G5259" the|strong="G2596" order|strong="G5010" of|strong="G5259" Melchizedek|strong="G3198".
11 Now|strong="G2532" on|strong="G4012" this|strong="G3588" subject I|strong="G1473" have|strong="G2532" much|strong="G4183" to|strong="G2532" say|strong="G3004", but|strong="G2532" it|strong="G2532" is|strong="G3588" difficult to|strong="G2532" explain|strong="G1421" it|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" you|strong="G3739", because|strong="G1893" you|strong="G3739" have|strong="G2532" shown yourselves|strong="G1096" so|strong="G2532" slow to|strong="G2532" learn.
12 For|strong="G1063" whereas, considering the|strong="G2532" time|strong="G5550" that|strong="G3588" has|strong="G2192" elapsed|strong="G1096", you|strong="G5210" ought|strong="G3784" to|strong="G2532" be|strong="G1096" teaching|strong="G1321" others|strong="G3588", you|strong="G5210" still need|strong="G5532" someone|strong="G5100" to|strong="G2532" teach|strong="G1321" you|strong="G5210" the|strong="G2532" alphabet of|strong="G1223" the|strong="G2532" divine revelation, and|strong="G2532" need|strong="G5532" again|strong="G3825" to|strong="G2532" be|strong="G1096" fed with|strong="G1223" milk|strong="G1051" instead of|strong="G1223" with|strong="G1223" “solid|strong="G4731" food|strong="G5160".”
13 For|strong="G1063" everyone|strong="G3956" who|strong="G3588" still has|strong="G1510" to|strong="G3956" take milk|strong="G1051" knows nothing|strong="G3956" of|strong="G3056" the|strong="G3956" teaching|strong="G3056" of|strong="G3056" righteousness|strong="G1343"; they|strong="G3588" are|strong="G1510" a|strong="G1510" mere infant|strong="G3516".
14 But|strong="G1161" solid|strong="G4731" food|strong="G5160" is|strong="G1510" for|strong="G1223" Christians of|strong="G1223" mature|strong="G5046" faith – those|strong="G3588" whose|strong="G3588" faculties have|strong="G2192" been|strong="G1510" trained|strong="G1128" by|strong="G1223" practice|strong="G1838" to|strong="G4314" distinguish right|strong="G2570" from|strong="G2532" wrong|strong="G2556".
