2 That|strong="G3551" is|strong="G3588" because|strong="G1063" in|strong="G1722" Christ|strong="G5547" Jesus|strong="G2424" the|strong="G3588" law|strong="G3551" of|strong="G4151" the|strong="G3588" Spirit|strong="G4151" that|strong="G3551" brings life|strong="G2222" made you|strong="G4771" free|strong="G1659". It|strong="G2532" made you|strong="G4771" free|strong="G1659" from|strong="G0575" the|strong="G3588" law|strong="G3551" that|strong="G3551" brings sin|strong="G0266" and|strong="G2532" death|strong="G2288".
3 The|strong="G3588" law|strong="G3551" was|strong="G3739" without|strong="G2532" power because|strong="G1223" it|strong="G1223" was|strong="G3739" made weak|strong="G0770" by|strong="G1722" our|strong="G2316" sinful|strong="G0266" selves. But|strong="G2532" God|strong="G2316" did what|strong="G3739" the|strong="G3588" law|strong="G3551" could|strong="G0102" not|strong="G3739" do|strong="G2532": He|strong="G2532" sent|strong="G3992" his|strong="G4012" own|strong="G1438" Son|strong="G5207" to|strong="G2532" earth|strong="G4561" with|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" same|strong="G3739" human|strong="G4561" life|strong="G4561" that|strong="G3739" everyone|strong="G3739" else|strong="G2532" uses for|strong="G1063" sin|strong="G0266". God|strong="G2316" sent|strong="G3992" him|strong="G3739" to|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" an|strong="G2532" offering to|strong="G2532" pay for|strong="G1063" sin|strong="G0266". So|strong="G2532" God|strong="G2316" used a|strong="G3739" human|strong="G4561" life|strong="G4561" to|strong="G2532" destroy sin|strong="G0266".
4 He|strong="G1722" did|strong="G4043" this|strong="G3588" so|strong="G2443" that|strong="G2443" we|strong="G2249" could|strong="G3361" be|strong="G3361" right just|strong="G2596" as|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" law|strong="G3551" said we|strong="G2249" must|strong="G0235" be|strong="G3361". Now|strong="G1722" we|strong="G2249" don’t|strong="G3361" live|strong="G4043" following|strong="G2596" our|strong="G2596" sinful selves. We|strong="G2249" live|strong="G4043" following|strong="G2596" the|strong="G3588" Spirit|strong="G4151".
5 People|strong="G1510" who|strong="G3588" live|strong="G5426" following|strong="G2596" their|strong="G2596" sinful selves think|strong="G5426" only about|strong="G2596" what|strong="G3588" they|strong="G1161" want. But|strong="G1161" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" live|strong="G5426" following|strong="G2596" the|strong="G3588" Spirit|strong="G4151" are|strong="G1510" thinking about|strong="G2596" what|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" Spirit|strong="G4151" wants them|strong="G2596" to|strong="G2596" do|strong="G1510".
6 If|strong="G2532" your|strong="G2532" thinking is|strong="G3588" controlled by|strong="G2532" your|strong="G2532" sinful self, there|strong="G1161" is|strong="G3588" spiritual|strong="G4151" death|strong="G2288". But|strong="G1161" if|strong="G2532" your|strong="G2532" thinking is|strong="G3588" controlled by|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" Spirit|strong="G4151", there|strong="G1161" is|strong="G3588" life|strong="G2222" and|strong="G2532" peace|strong="G1515".
7 Why|strong="G1063" is|strong="G2316" this|strong="G3588" true? Because|strong="G1063" anyone whose thinking is|strong="G2316" controlled by|strong="G4561" their sinful self is|strong="G2316" against|strong="G1519" God|strong="G2316". They|strong="G1410" refuse|strong="G3756" to|strong="G1519" obey God’s|strong="G2316" law|strong="G3551". And|strong="G2316" really they|strong="G1410" are|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3756" able|strong="G1410" to|strong="G1519" obey it|strong="G1519".
8 Those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" are|strong="G1510" ruled by|strong="G1722" their|strong="G1722" sinful selves cannot|strong="G3756" please|strong="G0700" God|strong="G2316".
9 But|strong="G1161" you|strong="G5210" are|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" ruled by|strong="G1722" your|strong="G2192" sinful selves|strong="G0846". You|strong="G5210" are|strong="G1510" ruled by|strong="G1722" the|strong="G2192" Spirit|strong="G4151", if|strong="G1487" that|strong="G3778" Spirit|strong="G4151" of|strong="G4151" God|strong="G2316" really lives|strong="G3611" in|strong="G1722" you|strong="G5210". But|strong="G1161" whoever|strong="G1487" does|strong="G2192" not|strong="G3756" have|strong="G2192" the|strong="G2192" Spirit|strong="G4151" of|strong="G4151" Christ|strong="G5547" does|strong="G2192" not|strong="G3756" belong|strong="G1510" to|strong="G1722" Christ|strong="G5547".
10 Your|strong="G1487" body|strong="G4983" will|strong="G4151" always|strong="G1223" be|strong="G5547" dead|strong="G3498" because|strong="G1223" of|strong="G4151" sin|strong="G0266". But|strong="G1161" if|strong="G1487" Christ|strong="G5547" is|strong="G3588" in|strong="G1722" you|strong="G5210", then|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3588" Spirit|strong="G4151" gives|strong="G1223" you|strong="G5210" life|strong="G2222", because|strong="G1223" Christ|strong="G5547" made you|strong="G5210" right|strong="G1343" with|strong="G1722" God.
11 God|strong="G0846" raised|strong="G1453" Jesus|strong="G2424" from|strong="G1537" death|strong="G3498". And|strong="G2532" if|strong="G1487" God’s|strong="G0846" Spirit|strong="G4151" lives|strong="G3611" in|strong="G1722" you|strong="G5210", he|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" also|strong="G2532" give|strong="G2227" life|strong="G2227" to|strong="G2532" your|strong="G1487" bodies|strong="G4983" that|strong="G0846" die|strong="G1223". Yes|strong="G1161", God|strong="G0846" is|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" one|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" raised|strong="G1453" Christ|strong="G5547" from|strong="G1537" death|strong="G3498", and|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" raise|strong="G1453" you|strong="G5210" to|strong="G2532" life|strong="G2227" through|strong="G1223" his|strong="G0846" Spirit|strong="G4151" living in|strong="G1722" you|strong="G5210".
12 So|strong="G3767", my|strong="G2596" brothers|strong="G0080" and|strong="G0080" sisters, we|strong="G1510" must|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" be|strong="G1510" ruled by|strong="G2596" our|strong="G2596" sinful selves. We|strong="G1510" must|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" live|strong="G2198" the|strong="G3588" way|strong="G2596" our|strong="G2596" sinful selves want.
13 If|strong="G1487" you|strong="G1487" use your|strong="G1487" lives|strong="G2198" to|strong="G3195" do what|strong="G3588" your|strong="G1487" sinful selves want, you|strong="G1487" will|strong="G3195" die|strong="G0599" spiritually|strong="G4151". But|strong="G1161" if|strong="G1487" you|strong="G1487" use the|strong="G3588" Spirit’s help to|strong="G3195" stop doing the|strong="G3588" wrong things|strong="G3195" you|strong="G1487" do with|strong="G2596" your|strong="G1487" body|strong="G4983", you|strong="G1487" will|strong="G3195" have|strong="G2289" true life|strong="G2198".
14 The|strong="G1510" true children of|strong="G5207" God|strong="G2316" are|strong="G1510" those|strong="G3778" who|strong="G3745" let|strong="G1510" God’s|strong="G2316" Spirit|strong="G4151" lead|strong="G0071" them|strong="G0071".
15 The|strong="G3588" Spirit|strong="G4151" that|strong="G3739" we|strong="G3739" received|strong="G2983" is|strong="G3739" not|strong="G3756" a|strong="G2983" spirit|strong="G4151" that|strong="G3739" makes us|strong="G1519" slaves|strong="G1397" again|strong="G3825" and|strong="G3962" causes us|strong="G1519" to|strong="G1519" fear|strong="G5401". The|strong="G3588" Spirit|strong="G4151" that|strong="G3739" we|strong="G3739" have|strong="G2983" makes us|strong="G1519" God’s chosen children. And|strong="G3962" with|strong="G1722" that|strong="G3739" Spirit|strong="G4151" we|strong="G3739" cry|strong="G2896" out|strong="G2896", “\+w Abba|strong="G0005"\+w*, Father|strong="G3962".”
16 And|strong="G2316" the|strong="G3588" Spirit|strong="G4151" himself|strong="G0846" speaks to|strong="G0846" our|strong="G2316" spirits|strong="G4151" and|strong="G2316" makes us sure that|strong="G3754" we|strong="G2249" are|strong="G1510" God’s|strong="G2316" children|strong="G5043".
17 If|strong="G1487" we|strong="G1487" are|strong="G2532" God’s|strong="G2316" children|strong="G5043", we|strong="G1487" will|strong="G2316" get the|strong="G2532" blessings God|strong="G2316" has|strong="G2316" for|strong="G2443" his|strong="G2532" people. He|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2316" give us all|strong="G1512" that|strong="G2443" he|strong="G2532" has|strong="G2316" given Christ|strong="G5547". But|strong="G1161" we|strong="G1487" must suffer|strong="G4841" like Christ|strong="G5547" suffered. Then|strong="G2532" we|strong="G1487" will|strong="G2316" be|strong="G2532" able to|strong="G2443" share his|strong="G2532" glory.
18 We|strong="G2249" have|strong="G3748" sufferings|strong="G3804" now|strong="G3568", but|strong="G1063" these|strong="G3748" are|strong="G3588" nothing|strong="G3756" compared to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" great|strong="G3756" glory|strong="G1391" that|strong="G3754" will|strong="G3195" be|strong="G3195" given to|strong="G1519" us|strong="G1519".
19 Everything that|strong="G2316" God|strong="G2316" made is|strong="G2316" waiting|strong="G0553" with|strong="G2316" excitement for|strong="G1063" the|strong="G3588" time when he|strong="G2316" will|strong="G2316" show the|strong="G3588" world who|strong="G3588" his|strong="G2316" children are|strong="G3588". The|strong="G3588" whole world wants very much for|strong="G1063" that|strong="G2316" to|strong="G2316" happen.
20 Everything God|strong="G5293" made was|strong="G3588" allowed to|strong="G1909" become like something that|strong="G1223" cannot|strong="G3756" fulfill its|strong="G1223" purpose. That|strong="G1223" was|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3756" its|strong="G1223" choice, but|strong="G0235" God|strong="G5293" made it|strong="G1223" happen with|strong="G1909" this|strong="G3588" hope|strong="G1680" in|strong="G1909" view|strong="G1223":
21 That|strong="G3748" the|strong="G3588" creation|strong="G2937" would|strong="G0846" be|strong="G2532" made free|strong="G1659" from|strong="G0575" ruin—that|strong="G3748" everything God|strong="G2316" made would|strong="G0846" have|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" same|strong="G0846" freedom|strong="G1657" and|strong="G2532" glory|strong="G1391" that|strong="G3748" belong to|strong="G1519" God’s|strong="G2316" children|strong="G5043".
22 We|strong="G2532" know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754" everything|strong="G3956" God made has|strong="G3748" been|strong="G2532" waiting until|strong="G0891" now|strong="G3568" in|strong="G3956" pain like a|strong="G2532" woman ready to|strong="G2532" give birth to|strong="G2532" a|strong="G2532" child.
23 Not|strong="G3756" only|strong="G3440" the|strong="G3588" world, but|strong="G1161" we|strong="G2249" also|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2192" been|strong="G2192" waiting|strong="G0553" with|strong="G1722" pain inside|strong="G1722" us|strong="G1722". We|strong="G2249" have|strong="G2192" the|strong="G3588" Spirit|strong="G4151" as|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" first|strong="G0536" part|strong="G1473" of|strong="G4151" God’s|strong="G0846" promise. So|strong="G2532" we|strong="G2249" are|strong="G3588" waiting|strong="G0553" for|strong="G1722" God|strong="G0846" to|strong="G2532" finish making us|strong="G1722" his|strong="G0846" own|strong="G1438" children. I|strong="G1473" mean we|strong="G2249" are|strong="G3588" waiting|strong="G0553" for|strong="G1722" our|strong="G2532" bodies|strong="G4983" to|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" made free.
24 We|strong="G3739" were|strong="G1510" saved|strong="G4982" to|strong="G2532" have|strong="G1510" this|strong="G3588" hope|strong="G1680". If|strong="G2532" we|strong="G3739" can see|strong="G0991" what|strong="G5101" we|strong="G3739" are|strong="G1510" waiting for|strong="G1063", that|strong="G3739" is|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" really hope|strong="G1680". People|strong="G1510" don’t|strong="G3756" hope|strong="G1680" for|strong="G1063" something|strong="G5101" they|strong="G3739" already have|strong="G1510".
25 But|strong="G1161" we|strong="G3739" are|strong="G3739" hoping|strong="G1679" for|strong="G1223" something we|strong="G3739" don’t|strong="G3756" have yet|strong="G1161", and|strong="G1161" we|strong="G3739" are|strong="G3739" waiting|strong="G0553" for|strong="G1223" it|strong="G1223" patiently.
26 Also|strong="G2532", the|strong="G3588" Spirit|strong="G4151" helps|strong="G4878" us. We|strong="G2249" are|strong="G3588" very|strong="G0846" weak|strong="G0769", but|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3588" Spirit|strong="G4151" helps|strong="G4878" us with|strong="G2532" our|strong="G2532" weakness|strong="G0769". We|strong="G2249" don’t|strong="G3756" know|strong="G1492" how|strong="G5101" to|strong="G2532" pray|strong="G4336" as|strong="G2532" we|strong="G2249" should|strong="G1163", but|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3588" Spirit|strong="G4151" himself|strong="G0846" speaks to|strong="G2532" God|strong="G0846" for|strong="G1063" us. He|strong="G2532" begs God|strong="G0846" for|strong="G1063" us, speaking to|strong="G2532" him|strong="G0846" with|strong="G2532" feelings too|strong="G2532" deep|strong="G0215" for|strong="G1063" words|strong="G0215".
27 God|strong="G2316" already knows|strong="G1492" our|strong="G2316" deepest thoughts. And|strong="G1161" he|strong="G3754" understands what|strong="G5101" the|strong="G3588" Spirit|strong="G4151" is|strong="G2316" saying|strong="G3754", because|strong="G3754" the|strong="G3588" Spirit|strong="G4151" speaks for|strong="G3754" his|strong="G3754" people|strong="G1492" in|strong="G2596" the|strong="G3588" way|strong="G2596" that|strong="G3754" agrees with|strong="G2316" what|strong="G5101" God|strong="G2316" wants.
28 We|strong="G3754" know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754" in|strong="G1519" everything|strong="G3956" God|strong="G2316" works for|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3956" good|strong="G0018" of|strong="G2316" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" love|strong="G0025" him|strong="G0025". These|strong="G3748" are|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3956" people|strong="G3956" God|strong="G2316" chose, because|strong="G3754" that|strong="G3754" was|strong="G1510" his|strong="G3956" plan.
29 God|strong="G0846" knew them|strong="G0846" before|strong="G1722" he|strong="G2532" made the|strong="G3588" world. And|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" decided that|strong="G3754" they|strong="G0846" would|strong="G0846" be|strong="G1510" like|strong="G0846" his|strong="G0846" Son|strong="G5207". Then|strong="G2532" Jesus|strong="G0846" would|strong="G0846" be|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" firstborn|strong="G4416" of|strong="G5207" many|strong="G4183" brothers|strong="G0080" and|strong="G2532" sisters.
30 God planned for|strong="G2532" them|strong="G3739" to|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" like his|strong="G3739" Son. He|strong="G2532" chose them|strong="G3739" and|strong="G2532" made them|strong="G3739" right with|strong="G2532" him|strong="G3739". And|strong="G2532" after|strong="G1161" he|strong="G2532" made them|strong="G3739" right, he|strong="G2532" gave them|strong="G3739" his|strong="G3739" glory|strong="G1392".
31 So|strong="G3767" what|strong="G5101" should|strong="G2316" we|strong="G2249" say|strong="G3004" about|strong="G5228" this|strong="G3778"? If|strong="G1487" God|strong="G2316" is|strong="G2316" for|strong="G5228" us|strong="G3004", no|strong="G1487" one|strong="G3778" can|strong="G3004" stand against|strong="G2596" us|strong="G3004". And|strong="G2316" God|strong="G2316" is|strong="G2316" with|strong="G4314" us|strong="G3004".
32 He|strong="G2532" even|strong="G2532" let his|strong="G0846" own|strong="G2398" Son|strong="G5207" suffer for|strong="G5228" us|strong="G5483". God|strong="G0846" gave|strong="G3860" his|strong="G0846" Son|strong="G5207" for|strong="G5228" all|strong="G3956" of|strong="G5207" us|strong="G5483". So|strong="G2532" now|strong="G2532" with|strong="G4862" Jesus|strong="G0846", God|strong="G0846" will|strong="G3739" surely give|strong="G5483" us|strong="G5483" all|strong="G3956" things|strong="G3956".
33 Who|strong="G3588" can accuse the|strong="G3588" people|strong="G3588" God|strong="G2316" has|strong="G2316" chosen|strong="G1588"? No one|strong="G3588"! God|strong="G2316" is|strong="G2316" the|strong="G3588" one|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" makes them|strong="G2596" right.
34 Who|strong="G3739" can say|strong="G1473" that|strong="G3739" God’s|strong="G2316" people|strong="G1510" are|strong="G1510" guilty? No one|strong="G3739"! Christ|strong="G5547" Jesus|strong="G2424" died|strong="G0599" for|strong="G5228" us|strong="G1722", but|strong="G1161" that|strong="G3739" is|strong="G1510" not|strong="G1510" all|strong="G3588". He|strong="G2532" was|strong="G1510" also|strong="G2532" raised|strong="G1453" from|strong="G1722" death|strong="G0599". And|strong="G2532" now|strong="G1161" he|strong="G2532" is|strong="G1510" at|strong="G1722" God’s|strong="G2316" right|strong="G1188" side, speaking to|strong="G2532" him|strong="G3739" for|strong="G5228" us|strong="G1722".
35 Can anything|strong="G5101" separate|strong="G5563" us from|strong="G0575" Christ’s|strong="G5547" love|strong="G0026"? Can trouble|strong="G2347" or|strong="G2228" problems or|strong="G2228" persecution|strong="G1375" separate|strong="G5563" us from|strong="G0575" his|strong="G2228" love|strong="G0026"? If we|strong="G2249" have|strong="G1473" no food or|strong="G2228" clothes or|strong="G2228" face danger|strong="G2794" or|strong="G2228" even death, will|strong="G5101" that|strong="G2228" separate|strong="G5563" us from|strong="G0575" his|strong="G2228" love|strong="G0026"?
36 As|strong="G5613" the|strong="G3588" Scriptures say,
37 But|strong="G0235" in|strong="G1722" all|strong="G3956" these|strong="G3778" troubles we|strong="G2249" have|strong="G1473" complete|strong="G3956" victory through|strong="G1223" God, who|strong="G3588" has|strong="G3778" shown his|strong="G3956" love|strong="G0025" for|strong="G1223" us|strong="G1722".
