They|strong="G0846" wanted to|strong="G2532" test|strong="G3985" him|strong="G0846". So|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" asked|strong="G1905" him|strong="G0846" to|strong="G2532" show|strong="G1925" them|strong="G0846" a|strong="G2532" miracle|strong="G4592" as|strong="G2532" a|strong="G2532" sign|strong="G4592" from|strong="G1537" God|strong="G0846".
2 Jesus|strong="G0846" answered|strong="G0611", “When|strong="G1161" you|strong="G3004" people|strong="G0846" see the|strong="G3588" sunset, you|strong="G3004" know what|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" weather|strong="G2105" will|strong="G0846" be|strong="G1096". If the|strong="G3588" sky|strong="G3772" is|strong="G3772" red|strong="G4449", you|strong="G3004" say|strong="G3004" we|strong="G1161" will|strong="G0846" have|strong="G1096" good weather|strong="G2105".
3 And|strong="G2532" in|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" morning|strong="G4404", if|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" sky|strong="G3772" is|strong="G3772" dark and|strong="G2532" red|strong="G4449", you|strong="G2532" say that|strong="G1097" it|strong="G1161" will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" a|strong="G2532" rainy day|strong="G4594". These|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" signs|strong="G4592" of|strong="G4383" the|strong="G3588" weather. These|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" also|strong="G2532" signs|strong="G4592", but|strong="G1161" you|strong="G2532" don’t|strong="G3756" know|strong="G1097" their|strong="G2532" meaning.
4 It|strong="G0846" is|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" evil|strong="G4190" and|strong="G2532" sinful people|strong="G0846" who|strong="G3588" want|strong="G1934" to|strong="G2532" see a|strong="G1325" miracle|strong="G4592" as|strong="G1438" a|strong="G1325" sign|strong="G4592" from|strong="G4592" God|strong="G0846". But|strong="G2532" no|strong="G3756" miracle|strong="G4592" will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" done to|strong="G2532" prove anything to|strong="G2532" them|strong="G0846". The|strong="G3588" only|strong="G1487" sign|strong="G4592" will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" miracle|strong="G4592" that|strong="G0846" happened|strong="G3588" to|strong="G2532" Jonah|strong="G2495".” Then|strong="G2532" Jesus|strong="G0846" went|strong="G0565" away|strong="G0565" from|strong="G4592" there.
5 Jesus|strong="G2532" and|strong="G2532" his|strong="G2983" followers went|strong="G2064" across|strong="G4008" the|strong="G3588" lake. But|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" followers forgot to|strong="G1519" bring|strong="G2983" bread|strong="G0740".
6 Jesus|strong="G2424" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" the|strong="G3588" followers, “Be|strong="G2532" careful|strong="G4337"! Guard|strong="G4337" against|strong="G0575" the|strong="G3588" yeast|strong="G2219" of|strong="G0575" the|strong="G3588" Pharisees|strong="G5330" and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" Sadducees|strong="G4523".”
7 The|strong="G3588" followers discussed the|strong="G3588" meaning of|strong="G1722" this|strong="G3588". They|strong="G3754" said|strong="G3004", “Did Jesus|strong="G3004" say|strong="G3004" this|strong="G3588" because|strong="G3754" we|strong="G3754" forgot to|strong="G3004" bring|strong="G2983" bread|strong="G0740"?”
8 Jesus|strong="G2424" knew|strong="G1097" that|strong="G3754" they|strong="G3754" were|strong="G3588" talking|strong="G3004" about|strong="G1722" this|strong="G3588". So|strong="G1161" he|strong="G3754" asked|strong="G3004" them|strong="G1722", “Why|strong="G5101" are|strong="G3588" you|strong="G3754" talking|strong="G3004" about|strong="G1722" not|strong="G3756" having bread|strong="G0740"? Your|strong="G2983" faith is|strong="G5101" small.
9 Do|strong="G2983" you|strong="G2532" still|strong="G3768" not|strong="G3761" understand|strong="G3539"? Remember|strong="G3421" the|strong="G3588" five|strong="G4002" loaves|strong="G0740" of|strong="G3588" bread|strong="G0740" that|strong="G3421" fed the|strong="G3588" 5000 people|strong="G3588" and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" many|strong="G4214" baskets|strong="G2894" you|strong="G2532" filled with|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" bread|strong="G0740" that|strong="G3421" was|strong="G3588" left?
10 And|strong="G2532" remember the|strong="G3588" seven|strong="G2033" loaves|strong="G0740" of|strong="G3588" bread|strong="G0740" that|strong="G0740" fed the|strong="G3588" 4000 people|strong="G3588" and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" many|strong="G4214" baskets|strong="G4711" you|strong="G2532" filled that|strong="G0740" time?
11 So|strong="G2532" how|strong="G4459" could you|strong="G5210" think|strong="G3539" that|strong="G3754" I|strong="G2532" am|strong="G2532" concerned about|strong="G4012" bread|strong="G0740"? I|strong="G2532" am|strong="G2532" telling|strong="G3004" you|strong="G5210" to|strong="G3004" be|strong="G2532" careful|strong="G4337" and|strong="G2532" guard|strong="G4337" against|strong="G0575" the|strong="G3588" yeast|strong="G2219" of|strong="G0575" the|strong="G3588" Pharisees|strong="G5330" and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" Sadducees|strong="G4523".”
12 Then|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" followers understood|strong="G4920" what|strong="G3588" Jesus|strong="G3004" meant|strong="G3004". He|strong="G2532" was|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3756" telling|strong="G3004" them|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" guard|strong="G4337" against|strong="G0575" the|strong="G3588" yeast|strong="G2219" used in|strong="G2532" bread|strong="G0740". He|strong="G2532" was|strong="G3588" telling|strong="G3004" them|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" guard|strong="G4337" against|strong="G0575" the|strong="G3588" teaching|strong="G1322" of|strong="G0575" the|strong="G3588" Pharisees|strong="G5330" and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" Sadducees|strong="G4523".
13 Jesus|strong="G2424" went|strong="G2064" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" area of|strong="G5207" Caesarea|strong="G2542" Philippi|strong="G5376". He|strong="G0846" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G1519" his|strong="G0846" followers, “Who|strong="G3588" do|strong="G1510" people|strong="G0444" say|strong="G3004" I|strong="G1161" am|strong="G1510"?”
14 They|strong="G1161" answered|strong="G3004", “Some|strong="G3588" people|strong="G3588" say|strong="G3004" you|strong="G3004" are|strong="G3588" John|strong="G2491" the|strong="G3588" Baptizer. Others|strong="G0243" say|strong="G3004" you|strong="G3004" are|strong="G3588" Elijah|strong="G2243". And|strong="G1161" some|strong="G3588" say|strong="G3004" you|strong="G3004" are|strong="G3588" Jeremiah|strong="G2408" or|strong="G2228" one|strong="G1520" of|strong="G1520" the|strong="G3588" prophets|strong="G4396".”
15 Then|strong="G1161" Jesus|strong="G0846" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" his|strong="G0846" followers, “And|strong="G1161" who|strong="G5101" do|strong="G1510" you|strong="G5210" say|strong="G3004" I|strong="G1473" am|strong="G1510"?”
16 Simon|strong="G4613" Peter|strong="G4074" answered|strong="G0611", “You|strong="G4771" are|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" Messiah|strong="G5547", the|strong="G3588" Son|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" the|strong="G3588" living|strong="G2198" God|strong="G2316".”
17 Jesus|strong="G2424" answered|strong="G0611", “You|strong="G4771" are|strong="G1510" blessed|strong="G3107", Simon|strong="G4613" son of|strong="G3962" Jonah. No|strong="G3756" one|strong="G3588" taught you|strong="G4771" that|strong="G3754". My|strong="G1722" Father|strong="G3962" in|strong="G1722" heaven|strong="G3772" showed you|strong="G4771" who|strong="G3588" I|strong="G1473" am|strong="G1510".
18 So|strong="G2532" I|strong="G1473" tell|strong="G3004" you|strong="G4771", you|strong="G4771" are|strong="G1510" Peter|strong="G4074". When|strong="G2532" you|strong="G4771" speak judgment here|strong="G1510" on|strong="G1909" earth|strong="G1093", that|strong="G3739" judgment will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" God’s judgment. When|strong="G2532" you|strong="G4771" promise forgiveness here|strong="G1510" on|strong="G1909" earth|strong="G1093", that|strong="G3739" forgiveness will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" God’s forgiveness.”
20 Then|strong="G5119" Jesus|strong="G0846" warned his|strong="G0846" followers not|strong="G3367" to|strong="G2443" tell|strong="G3004" anyone|strong="G3367" he|strong="G0846" was|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" Messiah|strong="G5547".
21 From|strong="G0575" that|strong="G3754" time|strong="G2250" Jesus|strong="G2424" began|strong="G0757" telling his|strong="G0846" followers that|strong="G3754" he|strong="G2532" must|strong="G1163" go|strong="G0565" to|strong="G1519" Jerusalem|strong="G2414". 22 Peter|strong="G4074" took|strong="G4355" Jesus|strong="G0846" away from|strong="G0757" the|strong="G3588" other|strong="G0846" followers to|strong="G3004" talk to|strong="G3004" him|strong="G0846" alone|strong="G0846". He|strong="G2532" began|strong="G0757" to|strong="G3004" criticize him|strong="G0846". He|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004", “God|strong="G0846" save you|strong="G4771" from|strong="G0757" those|strong="G3588" sufferings, Lord|strong="G2962"! That|strong="G3004" will|strong="G1510" never|strong="G3756" happen|strong="G1510" to|strong="G3004" you|strong="G4771"!”
23 Then|strong="G1161" Jesus|strong="G3004" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" Peter|strong="G4074", “Get|strong="G5217" away|strong="G5217" from|strong="G0444" me|strong="G3004", Satan|strong="G4567"! You|strong="G3754" are|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" helping me|strong="G3004"! You|strong="G3754" don’t|strong="G3756" care about|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" same things|strong="G3588" God|strong="G2316" does|strong="G1510". You|strong="G3754" care only|strong="G3756" about|strong="G3588" things|strong="G3588" that|strong="G3754" people|strong="G0444" think|strong="G5426" are|strong="G1510" important.”
24 Then|strong="G2532" Jesus|strong="G2424" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" his|strong="G0846" followers, “If|strong="G1487" any|strong="G5100" of|strong="G5100" you|strong="G1487" want|strong="G2309" to|strong="G3004" be|strong="G2532" my|strong="G0142" follower|strong="G3694", you|strong="G1487" must|strong="G3588" stop thinking about|strong="G3588" yourself|strong="G0846" and|strong="G2532" what|strong="G3588" you|strong="G1487" want|strong="G2309". You|strong="G1487" must|strong="G3588" be|strong="G2532" willing|strong="G2309" to|strong="G3004" carry|strong="G0142" the|strong="G3588" cross|strong="G4716" that|strong="G3004" is|strong="G5100" given to|strong="G3004" you|strong="G1487" for|strong="G2309" following|strong="G0190" me|strong="G3004".
25 Any|strong="G3739" of|strong="G5590" you|strong="G3739" who|strong="G3739" try to|strong="G2309" save|strong="G4982" the|strong="G3588" life|strong="G5590" you|strong="G3739" have|strong="G1473" will|strong="G3739" lose|strong="G0622" it|strong="G0846". But|strong="G1161" you|strong="G3739" who|strong="G3739" give up your|strong="G1437" life|strong="G5590" for|strong="G1063" me|strong="G1473" will|strong="G3739" find|strong="G2147" true life|strong="G5590".
26 It|strong="G0846" is|strong="G5101" worth nothing for|strong="G1063" you|strong="G1437" to|strong="G1325" have|strong="G2228" the|strong="G3588" whole|strong="G3650" world|strong="G2889" if|strong="G1437" you|strong="G1437" yourself|strong="G0846" are|strong="G3588" lost. You|strong="G1437" could never pay|strong="G1325" enough to|strong="G1325" buy back|strong="G1325" your|strong="G3650" life|strong="G5590".
27 The|strong="G3588" Son|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" Man|strong="G0444" will|strong="G3195" come|strong="G2064" again|strong="G2532" with|strong="G3326" his|strong="G0846" Father’s|strong="G3962" glory|strong="G1391" and|strong="G2532" with|strong="G3326" his|strong="G0846" angels|strong="G0032". And|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" will|strong="G3195" reward|strong="G0591" everyone|strong="G1538" for|strong="G1063" what|strong="G3588" they|strong="G0846" have|strong="G2532" done.
28 Believe me|strong="G3004" when|strong="G1722" I|strong="G0281" say|strong="G3004" that|strong="G3754" there|strong="G1510" are|strong="G1510" some|strong="G5100" people|strong="G0444" standing|strong="G2476" here|strong="G5602" who|strong="G3588" will|strong="G1510" see|strong="G3708" the|strong="G3588" Son|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" Man|strong="G0444" coming|strong="G2064" with|strong="G1722" his|strong="G0846" kingdom|strong="G0932" before|strong="G2193" they|strong="G0846" die|strong="G2288".”
