2 A|strong="G3793" large|strong="G4183" crowd|strong="G3793" gathered|strong="G4863" around|strong="G4314" him|strong="G0846". So|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" got|strong="G1684" into|strong="G1519" a|strong="G3793" boat|strong="G4143" and|strong="G2532" sat|strong="G2521" down|strong="G2521". 5 Other|strong="G0243" seed|strong="G4098" fell|strong="G4098" on|strong="G1909" rocky|strong="G4075" ground|strong="G1093", where|strong="G3699" there|strong="G3699" was|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3756" enough|strong="G4183" dirt. It|strong="G1223" grew very|strong="G4183" fast there|strong="G3699", because|strong="G1223" the|strong="G3588" soil|strong="G1093" was|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3756" deep|strong="G0899".
6 But|strong="G1161" when|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" sun|strong="G2246" rose, it|strong="G1223" burned the|strong="G3588" plants. The|strong="G3588" plants died because|strong="G1223" they|strong="G2532" did|strong="G2192" not|strong="G3361" have|strong="G2192" deep roots|strong="G4491".
7 Some|strong="G3588" other|strong="G0243" seed|strong="G4098" fell|strong="G4098" among|strong="G1909" thorny weeds. The|strong="G3588" weeds grew|strong="G0305" and|strong="G2532" stopped the|strong="G3588" good plants from|strong="G4098" growing.
8 But|strong="G1161" some|strong="G3588" of|strong="G1909" the|strong="G3588" seed|strong="G4098" fell|strong="G4098" on|strong="G1909" good|strong="G2570" ground|strong="G1093". There|strong="G1161" it|strong="G1161" grew and|strong="G2532" made grain|strong="G2590". Some|strong="G3588" plants made 100 times more|strong="G0243" grain|strong="G2590", some|strong="G3588" 60 times more|strong="G0243", and|strong="G2532" some|strong="G3588" 30 times more|strong="G0243".
9 You|strong="G0191" people|strong="G0191" who|strong="G3588" hear|strong="G0191" me|strong="G2192", listen|strong="G0191"!”
10 The|strong="G3588" followers came|strong="G4334" to|strong="G3004" Jesus|strong="G0846" and|strong="G2532" asked|strong="G3004", “Why|strong="G5101" do|strong="G3004" you|strong="G1722" use these|strong="G3588" stories to|strong="G3004" teach the|strong="G3588" people|strong="G0846"?”
11 Jesus|strong="G0846" answered|strong="G0611", “Only|strong="G3756" you|strong="G5210" can|strong="G3004" know|strong="G1097" the|strong="G3588" secret truths about|strong="G3588" God’s|strong="G0846" kingdom|strong="G0932". Those|strong="G3588" other|strong="G1161" people|strong="G0846" cannot|strong="G3756" know|strong="G1097" these|strong="G3748" secret truths.
12 The|strong="G2532" people|strong="G0846" who|strong="G3739" have|strong="G2192" some|strong="G3739" understanding will|strong="G3739" be|strong="G2532" given|strong="G1325" more|strong="G3756". And|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" will|strong="G3739" have|strong="G2192" even|strong="G2532" more|strong="G3756" than|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" need|strong="G2192". But|strong="G1161" those|strong="G1161" who|strong="G3739" do|strong="G2192" not|strong="G3756" have|strong="G2192" much understanding will|strong="G3739" lose even|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" little understanding that|strong="G3739" they|strong="G0846" have|strong="G2192".
13 This|strong="G3778" is|strong="G3778" why|strong="G1223" I|strong="G2532" use these|strong="G3778" stories to|strong="G2532" teach the|strong="G2532" people|strong="G0846": They|strong="G0846" see|strong="G0991", but|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" don’t|strong="G3756" really see|strong="G0991". They|strong="G0846" hear|strong="G0191", but|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" don’t|strong="G3756" really hear|strong="G0191" or|strong="G3761" understand|strong="G4920".
14 So|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" show that|strong="G3004" what|strong="G3588" Isaiah|strong="G2268" said|strong="G3004" about|strong="G3588" them|strong="G0846" is|strong="G3588" true:
15 Yes|strong="G1063", the|strong="G3588" minds|strong="G2588" of|strong="G0191" these|strong="G3778" people|strong="G2992" are|strong="G3778" now|strong="G2532" closed|strong="G2576".
16 But|strong="G1161" God|strong="G0191" has|strong="G3748" blessed|strong="G3107" you|strong="G5210". You|strong="G5210" understand|strong="G0191" what|strong="G3588" you|strong="G5210" see|strong="G0991" with|strong="G2532" your|strong="G2532" eyes|strong="G3788". 17 I|strong="G3739" can|strong="G3004" assure you|strong="G5210", many|strong="G4183" prophets|strong="G4396" and|strong="G2532" godly people|strong="G4183" wanted to|strong="G3004" see|strong="G3708" what|strong="G3739" you|strong="G5210" now|strong="G2532" see|strong="G3708". But|strong="G2532" they|strong="G3739" did|strong="G0191" not|strong="G3756" see|strong="G3708" it|strong="G0191". And|strong="G2532" many|strong="G4183" prophets|strong="G4396" and|strong="G2532" godly people|strong="G4183" wanted to|strong="G3004" hear|strong="G0191" what|strong="G3739" you|strong="G5210" now|strong="G2532" hear|strong="G0191". But|strong="G2532" they|strong="G3739" did|strong="G0191" not|strong="G3756" hear|strong="G0191" it|strong="G0191".
18 “So|strong="G3767" listen|strong="G0191" to|strong="G0191" the|strong="G3588" meaning of|strong="G0191" that|strong="G0191" story about|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" farmer:
19 “What|strong="G3588" about|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3956" seed that|strong="G0191" fell by|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3956" path|strong="G3598"? That|strong="G0191" is|strong="G1510" like|strong="G0846" the|strong="G3956" people|strong="G3956" who|strong="G3588" hear|strong="G0191" the|strong="G3956" teaching|strong="G3056" about|strong="G1722" God’s|strong="G0846" kingdom|strong="G0932" but|strong="G2532" do|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3361" understand|strong="G4920" it|strong="G0846". 21 But|strong="G1161" they|strong="G1161" do|strong="G1096" not|strong="G3756" let|strong="G1096" the|strong="G3588" teaching|strong="G3056" go deep into|strong="G1096" their|strong="G1438" lives. They|strong="G1161" keep|strong="G2192" it|strong="G1223" only|strong="G3756" a|strong="G2192" short time. As|strong="G1722" soon|strong="G1722" as|strong="G1722" trouble|strong="G2347" or|strong="G2228" persecution|strong="G1375" comes|strong="G1096" because|strong="G1223" of|strong="G3056" the|strong="G3588" teaching|strong="G3056" they|strong="G1161" accepted, they|strong="G1161" give|strong="G1096" up.
22 “And|strong="G2532" what|strong="G3588" about|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" seed that|strong="G0191" fell|strong="G1096" among|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" thorny weeds? That|strong="G0191" is|strong="G1510" like the|strong="G3588" people|strong="G1510" who|strong="G3588" hear|strong="G0191" the|strong="G3588" teaching|strong="G3056" but|strong="G1161" let|strong="G1096" worries|strong="G3308" about|strong="G1519" this|strong="G3778" life and|strong="G2532" love for|strong="G1519" money stop it|strong="G0191" from|strong="G0191" growing. So|strong="G2532" it|strong="G0191" does|strong="G1510" not|strong="G1510" produce a|strong="G1096" crop in|strong="G1519" their|strong="G2532" lives.
23 “But|strong="G1161" what|strong="G3739" about|strong="G1909" the|strong="G3588" seed that|strong="G3739" fell on|strong="G1909" the|strong="G3588" good|strong="G2570" ground|strong="G1093"? That|strong="G3739" is|strong="G1510" like the|strong="G3588" people|strong="G1510" who|strong="G3739" hear|strong="G0191" the|strong="G3588" teaching|strong="G3056" and|strong="G2532" understand|strong="G4920" it|strong="G4160". They|strong="G3739" grow and|strong="G2532" produce|strong="G4160" a|strong="G1510" good|strong="G2570" crop, sometimes 100 times more, sometimes 60 times more, and|strong="G2532" sometimes 30 times more.”
24 Then|strong="G0846" Jesus|strong="G0846" used another|strong="G0243" story to|strong="G3004" teach them|strong="G0846". Jesus|strong="G0846" said|strong="G3004", “God’s|strong="G0846" kingdom|strong="G0932" is|strong="G0444" like|strong="G3666" a|strong="G3004" man|strong="G0444" who|strong="G3588" planted good|strong="G2570" seed|strong="G4690" in|strong="G1722" his|strong="G0846" field|strong="G0068".
25 That|strong="G0846" night, while|strong="G1722" everyone was|strong="G3588" asleep|strong="G2518", the|strong="G3588" man’s|strong="G0444" enemy|strong="G2190" came|strong="G2064" and|strong="G2532" planted weeds|strong="G2215" among|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" wheat|strong="G4621" and|strong="G2532" then|strong="G2532" left|strong="G0565".
26 Later, the|strong="G3588" wheat|strong="G5528" grew, and|strong="G2532" heads of|strong="G3588" grain|strong="G2590" grew on|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3588" plants. But|strong="G1161" at|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3588" same|strong="G2532" time|strong="G5119" the|strong="G3588" weeds|strong="G2215" also|strong="G2532" grew.
27 Then|strong="G3767" the|strong="G3588" man’s servants|strong="G1401" came|strong="G4334" to|strong="G3004" him|strong="G0846" and|strong="G1161" said|strong="G3004", ‘You|strong="G1722" planted good|strong="G2570" seed|strong="G4690" in|strong="G1722" your|strong="G4674" field|strong="G0068". 28 “The|strong="G3588" man|strong="G0444" answered|strong="G3004", ‘An|strong="G4160" enemy|strong="G2190" planted weeds.’
29 “He|strong="G0846" answered|strong="G5346", ‘No|strong="G3756", because|strong="G1161" when|strong="G1161" you|strong="G0846" pull up the|strong="G3588" weeds|strong="G2215", you|strong="G0846" might also|strong="G1161" pull up the|strong="G3588" wheat|strong="G4621".
30 Let|strong="G0863" the|strong="G3588" weeds|strong="G2215" and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" wheat|strong="G4621" grow|strong="G4885" together|strong="G4863" until|strong="G3360" the|strong="G3588" harvest|strong="G2326" time|strong="G2540". At|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" harvest|strong="G2326" time|strong="G2540" I|strong="G1473" will|strong="G2532" tell|strong="G3004" the|strong="G3588" workers this|strong="G3588": First|strong="G4413", gather|strong="G4863" the|strong="G3588" weeds|strong="G2215" and|strong="G2532" tie|strong="G1210" them|strong="G0846" together|strong="G4863" to|strong="G1519" be|strong="G2532" burned|strong="G2618". 31 Then|strong="G0846" Jesus|strong="G0846" told|strong="G3004" the|strong="G3588" people|strong="G0444" another|strong="G0243" story: “God’s|strong="G0846" kingdom|strong="G0932" is|strong="G1510" like|strong="G3664" a|strong="G2983" mustard|strong="G4615" seed|strong="G2848" that|strong="G3739" a|strong="G2983" man|strong="G0444" plants in|strong="G1722" his|strong="G0846" field|strong="G0068".
32 It|strong="G0846" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3956" smallest|strong="G3398" of|strong="G3956" all|strong="G3956" seeds|strong="G4690". 33 Then|strong="G0846" Jesus|strong="G0846" told|strong="G2980" them|strong="G0846" another|strong="G0243" story: “God’s|strong="G0846" kingdom|strong="G0932" is|strong="G1510" like|strong="G3664" yeast|strong="G2219" that|strong="G3739" a|strong="G2983" woman|strong="G1135" mixes into|strong="G1519" a|strong="G2983" big bowl of|strong="G0932" flour|strong="G0224" to|strong="G1519" make bread.
