1 Now the children|strong="H1121" of Reuben|strong="H7205" and the children|strong="H1121" of Gad|strong="H1410" had a very|strong="H3966" great|strong="H6099" multitude|strong="H7227" of cattle|strong="H4735": and when they saw|strong="H7200" the land|strong="H0776" of Jazer|strong="H3270", and the land|strong="H0776" of Gilead|strong="H1568", that, behold, the place|strong="H4725" was a place|strong="H4725" for cattle|strong="H4735";
2 The children|strong="H1121" of Gad|strong="H1410" and the children|strong="H1121" of Reuben|strong="H7205" came|strong="H0935" and spake|strong="H0559" unto Moses|strong="H4872", and to Eleazar|strong="H0499" the priest|strong="H3548", and unto the princes|strong="H5387" of the congregation|strong="H5712", saying|strong="H0559",
3 Ataroth|strong="H5852", and Dibon|strong="H1769", and Jazer|strong="H3270", and Nimrah|strong="H5247", and Heshbon|strong="H2809", and Elealeh|strong="H0500", and Shebam|strong="H7643", and Nebo|strong="H5015", and Beon|strong="H1194",
4 Even the country|strong="H0776" which the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* smote|strong="H5221" before|strong="H6440" the congregation|strong="H5712" of Israel|strong="H3478", is a land|strong="H0776" for cattle|strong="H4735", and thy servants|strong="H5650" have cattle|strong="H4735":
5 Wherefore, said|strong="H0559" they, if we have found|strong="H4672" grace|strong="H2580" in thy sight|strong="H5869", let this land|strong="H0776" be given|strong="H5414" unto thy servants|strong="H5650" for a possession|strong="H0272", and bring us not over|strong="H5674" Jordan|strong="H3383".
6 And Moses|strong="H4872" said|strong="H0559" unto the children|strong="H1121" of Gad|strong="H1410" and to the children|strong="H1121" of Reuben|strong="H7205", Shall your brethren|strong="H0251" go|strong="H0935" to war|strong="H4421", and shall ye sit|strong="H3427" here?
7 And wherefore discourage ye|strong="H5106" the heart|strong="H3820" of the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" from going over|strong="H5674" into the land|strong="H0776" which the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath given|strong="H5414" them?
8 Thus did|strong="H6213" your fathers|strong="H0001", when I sent|strong="H7971" them from Kadesh-barnea|strong="H6947" to see|strong="H7200" the land|strong="H0776".
9 For when they went up|strong="H5927" unto the valley|strong="H5158" of Eshcol|strong="H0812", and saw|strong="H7200" the land|strong="H0776", they discouraged|strong="H5106" the heart|strong="H3820" of the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478", that they should not go|strong="H0935" into the land|strong="H0776" which the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* had given|strong="H5414" them.
10 And the \+w LORD’s|strong="H3068"\+w* anger|strong="H0639" was kindled|strong="H2734" the same time|strong="H3117", and he sware|strong="H7650", saying|strong="H0559",
11 Surely|strong="H0518" none of the men|strong="H0582" that came up|strong="H5927" out of Egypt|strong="H4714", from twenty|strong="H6242" years|strong="H8141" old|strong="H1121" and upward|strong="H4605", shall see|strong="H7200" the land|strong="H0127" which I sware|strong="H7650" unto Abraham|strong="H0085", unto Isaac|strong="H3327", and unto Jacob|strong="H3290"; because they have not wholly|strong="H4390" followed|strong="H0310" me:
12 Save Caleb|strong="H3612" the son|strong="H1121" of Jephunneh|strong="H3312" the Kenezite|strong="H7074", and Joshua|strong="H3091" the son|strong="H1121" of Nun|strong="H5126": for they have wholly|strong="H4390" followed|strong="H0310" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
13 And the \+w LORD’s|strong="H3068"\+w* anger|strong="H0639" was kindled|strong="H2734" against Israel|strong="H3478", and he made them wander|strong="H5128" in the wilderness|strong="H4057" forty|strong="H0705" years|strong="H8141", until all the generation|strong="H1755", that had done|strong="H6213" evil|strong="H7451" in the sight|strong="H5869" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, was consumed|strong="H8552".
14 And, behold, ye are risen up|strong="H6965" in your fathers’|strong="H0001" stead, an increase|strong="H8635" of sinful|strong="H2400" men|strong="H0582", to augment|strong="H5595" yet the fierce|strong="H2740" anger|strong="H0639" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* toward Israel|strong="H3478".
15 For if ye turn away|strong="H7725" from after|strong="H0310" him, he will yet again|strong="H3254" leave|strong="H3240" them in the wilderness|strong="H4057"; and ye shall destroy|strong="H7843" all this people|strong="H5971".
16 And they came near|strong="H5066" unto him, and said|strong="H0559", We will build|strong="H1129" sheepfolds|strong="H1448" here for our cattle|strong="H4735", and cities|strong="H5892" for our little ones|strong="H2945":
17 But we ourselves|strong="H0587" will go ready|strong="H2363" armed|strong="H2502" before|strong="H6440" the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478", until we have brought|strong="H0935" them unto their place|strong="H4725": and our little ones|strong="H2945" shall dwell|strong="H3427" in the fenced|strong="H4013" cities|strong="H5892" because|strong="H6440" of the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of the land|strong="H0776".
18 We will not return|strong="H7725" unto our houses|strong="H1004", until the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" have inherited|strong="H5157" every man|strong="H0376" his inheritance|strong="H5159".
19 For we will not inherit|strong="H5157" with them on yonder side|strong="H5676" Jordan|strong="H3383", or forward|strong="H1973"; because our inheritance|strong="H5159" is fallen|strong="H0935" to us on this side|strong="H5676" Jordan|strong="H3383" eastward|strong="H4217".
20 And Moses|strong="H4872" said|strong="H0559" unto them, If ye will do|strong="H6213" this thing|strong="H1697", if ye will go armed|strong="H2502" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* to war|strong="H4421",
21 And will go|strong="H5674" all of you armed|strong="H2502" over|strong="H5674" Jordan|strong="H3383" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, until he hath driven out|strong="H3423" his enemies|strong="H0341" from before|strong="H6440" him,
22 And the land|strong="H0776" be subdued|strong="H3533" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: then afterward|strong="H0310" ye shall return|strong="H7725", and be guiltless|strong="H5355" before the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and before Israel|strong="H3478"; and this land|strong="H0776" shall be your possession|strong="H0272" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
23 But if ye will not do so|strong="H6213", behold, ye have sinned|strong="H2398" against the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: and be sure|strong="H3045" your sin|strong="H2403" will find you out|strong="H4672".
24 Build|strong="H1129" you cities|strong="H5892" for your little ones|strong="H2945", and folds|strong="H1448" for your sheep|strong="H6792"; and do|strong="H6213" that which hath proceeded|strong="H3318" out of your mouth|strong="H6310".
25 And the children|strong="H1121" of Gad|strong="H1410" and the children|strong="H1121" of Reuben|strong="H7205" spake|strong="H0559" unto Moses|strong="H4872", saying|strong="H0559", Thy servants|strong="H5650" will do|strong="H6213" as my lord|strong="H0113" commandeth|strong="H6680".
26 Our little ones|strong="H2945", our wives|strong="H0802", our flocks|strong="H4735", and all our cattle|strong="H0929", shall be there in the cities|strong="H5892" of Gilead|strong="H1568":
27 But thy servants|strong="H5650" will pass over|strong="H5674", every man armed|strong="H2502" for war|strong="H6635", before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* to battle|strong="H4421", as my lord|strong="H0113" saith|strong="H1696".
28 So concerning them Moses|strong="H4872" commanded|strong="H6680" Eleazar|strong="H0499" the priest|strong="H3548", and Joshua|strong="H3091" the son|strong="H1121" of Nun|strong="H5126", and the chief|strong="H7218" fathers|strong="H0001" of the tribes|strong="H4294" of the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478":
29 And Moses|strong="H4872" said|strong="H0559" unto them, If the children|strong="H1121" of Gad|strong="H1410" and the children|strong="H1121" of Reuben|strong="H7205" will pass with you over|strong="H5674" Jordan|strong="H3383", every man armed|strong="H2502" to battle|strong="H4421", before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and the land|strong="H0776" shall be subdued|strong="H3533" before|strong="H6440" you; then ye shall give|strong="H5414" them the land|strong="H0776" of Gilead|strong="H1568" for a possession|strong="H0272":
30 But if they will not pass over|strong="H5674" with you armed|strong="H2502", they shall have possessions|strong="H0270" among|strong="H8432" you in the land|strong="H0776" of Canaan|strong="H3667".
31 And the children|strong="H1121" of Gad|strong="H1410" and the children|strong="H1121" of Reuben|strong="H7205" answered|strong="H6030", saying|strong="H0559", As the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath said|strong="H1696" unto thy servants|strong="H5650", so will we do|strong="H6213".
32 We will|strong="H5168" pass over|strong="H5674" armed|strong="H2502" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* into the land|strong="H0776" of Canaan|strong="H3667", that the possession|strong="H0272" of our inheritance|strong="H5159" on this side|strong="H5676" Jordan|strong="H3383" may be ours.
33 And Moses|strong="H4872" gave|strong="H5414" unto them, even to the children|strong="H1121" of Gad|strong="H1410", and to the children|strong="H1121" of Reuben|strong="H7205", and unto half|strong="H2677" the tribe|strong="H7626" of Manasseh|strong="H4519" the son|strong="H1121" of Joseph|strong="H3130", the kingdom|strong="H4467" of Sihon|strong="H5511" king|strong="H4428" of the Amorites|strong="H0567", and the kingdom|strong="H4467" of Og|strong="H5747" king|strong="H4428" of Bashan|strong="H1316", the land|strong="H0776", with the cities|strong="H5892" thereof in the coasts|strong="H1367", even the cities|strong="H5892" of the country|strong="H0776" round about|strong="H5439".
34 And the children|strong="H1121" of Gad|strong="H1410" built|strong="H1129" Dibon|strong="H1769", and Ataroth|strong="H5852", and Aroer|strong="H6177",
35 And Atroth, Shophan|strong="H5855", and Jaazer|strong="H3270", and Jogbehah|strong="H3011",
36 And Beth-nimrah|strong="H1039", and Beth-haran|strong="H1028", fenced|strong="H4013" cities|strong="H5892": and folds|strong="H1448" for sheep|strong="H6629".
37 And the children|strong="H1121" of Reuben|strong="H7205" built|strong="H1129" Heshbon|strong="H2809", and Elealeh|strong="H0500", and Kirjathaim|strong="H7156",
38 And Nebo|strong="H5015", and Baal-meon|strong="H1186", (their names|strong="H8034" being changed|strong="H4142",) and Shibmah|strong="H7643": and gave|strong="H7121" other names|strong="H8034" unto the cities|strong="H5892" which they builded|strong="H1129".
39 And the children|strong="H1121" of Machir|strong="H4353" the son|strong="H1121" of Manasseh|strong="H4519" went|strong="H3212" to Gilead|strong="H1568", and took|strong="H3920" it, and dispossessed|strong="H3423" the Amorite|strong="H0567" which was in it.
40 And Moses|strong="H4872" gave|strong="H5414" Gilead|strong="H1568" unto Machir|strong="H4353" the son|strong="H1121" of Manasseh|strong="H4519"; and he dwelt|strong="H3427" therein.
41 And Jair|strong="H2971" the son|strong="H1121" of Manasseh|strong="H4519" went|strong="H1980" and took|strong="H3920" the small towns|strong="H2333" thereof, and called|strong="H7121" them Havoth-jair|strong="H2334".
42 And Nobah|strong="H5025" went|strong="H1980" and took|strong="H3920" Kenath|strong="H7079", and the villages|strong="H1323" thereof, and called|strong="H7121" it Nobah|strong="H5025", after his own name|strong="H8034".
