Daniel 5

ENG-KJV2006

Belshazzar|strong="H1113" the king|strong="H4430" made|strong="H5648" a great|strong="H7229" feast|strong="H3900" to a thousand|strong="H0506" of his lords|strong="H7261", and drank|strong="H8355" wine|strong="H2562" before|strong="H6903" the thousand|strong="H0506".

Belshazzar|strong="H1113", whiles he tasted|strong="H2942" the wine|strong="H2562", commanded|strong="H0560" to bring|strong="H0858" the golden|strong="H1722" and silver|strong="H3702" vessels|strong="H3984" which his father|strong="H0002" Nebuchadnezzar|strong="H5020" had taken|strong="H5312" out of|strong="H4481" the temple|strong="H1965" which was in Jerusalem|strong="H3390"; that the king|strong="H4430", and his princes|strong="H7261", his wives|strong="H7695", and his concubines|strong="H3904", might drink|strong="H8355" therein.

Then|strong="H0116" they brought|strong="H0858" the golden|strong="H1722" vessels|strong="H3984" that were taken|strong="H5312" out of|strong="H4481" the temple|strong="H1965" of the house|strong="H1005" of God|strong="H0426" which was at Jerusalem|strong="H3390"; and the king|strong="H4430", and his princes|strong="H7261", his wives|strong="H7695", and his concubines|strong="H3904", drank|strong="H8355" in them.

They drank|strong="H8355" wine|strong="H2562", and praised|strong="H7624" the gods|strong="H0426" of gold|strong="H1722", and of silver|strong="H3702", of brass|strong="H5174", of iron|strong="H6523", of wood|strong="H0636", and of stone|strong="H0069".

In the same hour|strong="H8160" came forth|strong="H5312" fingers|strong="H0677" of a man’s|strong="H0606" hand|strong="H3028", and wrote|strong="H3790" over against|strong="H6903" the candlestick|strong="H5043" upon|strong="H5922" the plaister|strong="H1528" of the wall|strong="H3797" of the king’s|strong="H4430" palace|strong="H1965": and the king|strong="H4430" saw|strong="H2370" the part|strong="H6447" of the hand|strong="H3028" that wrote|strong="H3790".

Then|strong="H0116" the king’s|strong="H4430" countenance|strong="H2122" was changed|strong="H8133", and his thoughts|strong="H7476" troubled|strong="H0927" him, so that the joints|strong="H7001" of his loins|strong="H2783" were loosed|strong="H8271", and his knees|strong="H0755" smote|strong="H5368" one|strong="H1668" against another|strong="H1668".

The king|strong="H4430" cried|strong="H7123" aloud|strong="H2429" to bring|strong="H5954" in the astrologers|strong="H0826", the Chaldeans|strong="H3779", and the soothsayers|strong="H1505". And the king|strong="H4430" spake|strong="H6032", and said|strong="H0560" to the wise|strong="H2445" men of Babylon|strong="H0895", Whosoever|strong="H0606" shall read|strong="H7123" this|strong="H1836" writing|strong="H3792", and shew|strong="H2324" me the interpretation|strong="H6591" thereof, shall be clothed|strong="H3848" with scarlet|strong="H0711", and have a chain|strong="H2002" of gold|strong="H1722" about|strong="H5922" his neck|strong="H6676", and shall be the third|strong="H8523" ruler|strong="H7981" in the kingdom|strong="H4437".

Then|strong="H0116" came|strong="H5954" in all|strong="H3606" the king’s|strong="H4430" wise|strong="H2445" men: but they could|strong="H3546" not|strong="H3809" read|strong="H7123" the writing|strong="H3792", nor make known|strong="H3046" to the king|strong="H4430" the interpretation|strong="H6591" thereof.

Then|strong="H0116" was king|strong="H4430" Belshazzar|strong="H1113" greatly|strong="H7690" troubled|strong="H0927", and his countenance|strong="H2122" was changed|strong="H8133" in him|strong="H5922", and his lords|strong="H7261" were astonied|strong="H7672".

Now the queen|strong="H4433", by reason|strong="H6903" of the words|strong="H4406" of the king|strong="H4430" and his lords|strong="H7261", came|strong="H5954" into the banquet|strong="H4961" house|strong="H1005": and the queen|strong="H4433" spake|strong="H6032" and said|strong="H0560", O king|strong="H4430", live|strong="H2418" for ever|strong="H5957": let not|strong="H0409" thy thoughts|strong="H7476" trouble|strong="H0927" thee, nor let thy countenance|strong="H2122" be changed|strong="H8133":

There is|strong="H0383" a man|strong="H1400" in thy kingdom|strong="H4437", in whom is the spirit|strong="H7308" of the holy|strong="H6922" gods|strong="H0426"; and in the days|strong="H3118" of thy father|strong="H0002" light|strong="H5094" and understanding|strong="H7924" and wisdom|strong="H2452", like the wisdom|strong="H2452" of the gods|strong="H0426", was found|strong="H7912" in him; whom the king|strong="H4430" Nebuchadnezzar|strong="H5020" thy father|strong="H0002", the king|strong="H4430", I say, thy father|strong="H0002", made|strong="H6966" master|strong="H7229" of the magicians|strong="H2749", astrologers|strong="H0826", Chaldeans|strong="H3779", and soothsayers|strong="H1505";

Forasmuch as|strong="H6903" an excellent|strong="H3493" spirit|strong="H7308", and knowledge|strong="H4486", and understanding|strong="H7924", interpreting|strong="H6590" of dreams|strong="H2493", and shewing|strong="H0263" of hard sentences|strong="H0280", and dissolving|strong="H8271" of doubts|strong="H7001", were found|strong="H7912" in the same Daniel|strong="H1841", whom the king|strong="H4430" named|strong="H7761" Belteshazzar|strong="H1096": now|strong="H3705" let Daniel|strong="H1841" be called|strong="H7123", and he will shew|strong="H2324" the interpretation|strong="H6591".

Then|strong="H0116" was Daniel|strong="H1841" brought in|strong="H5954" before|strong="H6925" the king|strong="H4430". And the king|strong="H4430" spake|strong="H6032" and said|strong="H0560" unto Daniel|strong="H1841", Art thou|strong="H0607" that Daniel|strong="H1841", which art of|strong="H4481" the children|strong="H1123" of the captivity|strong="H1547" of Judah|strong="H3061", whom the king|strong="H4430" my father|strong="H0002" brought|strong="H0858" out of|strong="H4481" Jewry|strong="H3061"?

I have even heard|strong="H8086" of thee, that the spirit|strong="H7308" of the gods|strong="H0426" is in thee|strong="H5922", and that light|strong="H5094" and understanding|strong="H7924" and excellent|strong="H3493" wisdom|strong="H2452" is found|strong="H7912" in thee.

And now|strong="H3705" the wise|strong="H2445" men, the astrologers|strong="H0826", have been brought|strong="H5954" in before|strong="H6925" me, that they should read|strong="H7123" this|strong="H1836" writing|strong="H3792", and make known|strong="H3046" unto me the interpretation|strong="H6591" thereof: but they could|strong="H3546" not|strong="H3809" shew|strong="H2324" the interpretation|strong="H6591" of the thing|strong="H4406":

And I|strong="H0576" have heard|strong="H8086" of thee|strong="H5922", that thou canst|strong="H3202" make|strong="H6590" interpretations|strong="H6591", and dissolve|strong="H8271" doubts|strong="H7001": now|strong="H3705" if|strong="H2006" thou canst|strong="H3202" read|strong="H7123" the writing|strong="H3792", and make known|strong="H3046" to me the interpretation|strong="H6591" thereof, thou shalt be clothed|strong="H3848" with scarlet|strong="H0711", and have a chain|strong="H2002" of gold|strong="H1722" about|strong="H5922" thy neck|strong="H6676", and shalt be the third|strong="H8531" ruler|strong="H7981" in the kingdom|strong="H4437".

Then|strong="H0116" Daniel|strong="H1841" answered|strong="H6032" and said|strong="H0560" before|strong="H6925" the king|strong="H4430", Let thy gifts|strong="H4978" be|strong="H1934" to thyself, and give|strong="H3052" thy rewards|strong="H5023" to another|strong="H0321"; yet|strong="H1297" I will read|strong="H7123" the writing|strong="H3792" unto the king|strong="H4430", and make known|strong="H3046" to him the interpretation|strong="H6591".

O thou|strong="H0607" king|strong="H4430", the most high|strong="H5943" God|strong="H0426" gave|strong="H3052" Nebuchadnezzar|strong="H5020" thy father|strong="H0002" a kingdom|strong="H4437", and majesty|strong="H7238", and glory|strong="H3367", and honour|strong="H1923":

And for|strong="H4481" the majesty|strong="H7238" that he gave|strong="H3052" him, all|strong="H3606" people|strong="H5972", nations|strong="H0524", and languages|strong="H3961", trembled|strong="H1934" and feared|strong="H1763" before|strong="H4481" him|strong="H6925": whom he would|strong="H1934" he slew|strong="H1934"; and whom he would|strong="H1934" he kept alive|strong="H1934"; and whom he would|strong="H1934" he set up|strong="H1934"; and whom he would|strong="H1934" he put down|strong="H1934".

But when his heart|strong="H3825" was lifted up|strong="H7313", and his mind|strong="H7308" hardened|strong="H8631" in pride|strong="H2103", he was deposed|strong="H5182" from|strong="H4481" his kingly|strong="H4437" throne|strong="H3764", and they took|strong="H5709" his glory|strong="H3367" from him|strong="H4481":

And he was driven|strong="H2957" from|strong="H4481" the sons|strong="H1123" of men|strong="H0606"; and his heart|strong="H3825" was made|strong="H7739" like|strong="H5974" the beasts|strong="H2423", and his dwelling|strong="H4070" was with the wild asses|strong="H6167": they fed|strong="H2939" him with grass|strong="H6211" like oxen|strong="H8450", and his body|strong="H1655" was wet|strong="H6647" with the dew|strong="H2920" of heaven|strong="H8065"; till|strong="H5705" he knew|strong="H3046" that the most high|strong="H5943" God|strong="H0426" ruled|strong="H7990" in the kingdom|strong="H4437" of men|strong="H0606", and that he appointeth|strong="H6966" over|strong="H5922" it whomsoever|strong="H4479" he will|strong="H6634".

And thou|strong="H0607" his son|strong="H1247", O Belshazzar|strong="H1113", hast not|strong="H3809" humbled|strong="H8214" thine heart|strong="H3825", though|strong="H6903" thou knewest|strong="H3046" all|strong="H3606" this|strong="H1836";

But hast lifted up|strong="H7313" thyself against|strong="H5922" the Lord|strong="H4756" of heaven|strong="H8065"; and they have brought|strong="H0858" the vessels|strong="H3984" of his house|strong="H1005" before|strong="H6925" thee, and thou|strong="H0607", and thy lords|strong="H7261", thy wives|strong="H7695", and thy concubines|strong="H3904", have drunk|strong="H8355" wine|strong="H2562" in them; and thou hast praised|strong="H7624" the gods|strong="H0426" of silver|strong="H3702", and gold|strong="H1722", of brass|strong="H5174", iron|strong="H6523", wood|strong="H0636", and stone|strong="H0069", which see|strong="H2370" not|strong="H3809", nor|strong="H3809" hear|strong="H8086", nor|strong="H3809" know|strong="H3046": and the God|strong="H0426" in whose hand|strong="H3028" thy breath|strong="H5396" is, and whose are all|strong="H3606" thy ways|strong="H0735", hast thou not|strong="H3809" glorified|strong="H1922":

Then|strong="H0116" was the part|strong="H6447" of the hand|strong="H3028" sent|strong="H7972" from|strong="H4481" him|strong="H6925"; and this|strong="H1836" writing|strong="H3792" was written|strong="H7560".

And this|strong="H1836" is the writing|strong="H3792" that was written|strong="H7560", MENE|strong="H4484", MENE|strong="H4484", TEKEL|strong="H8625", UPHARSIN|strong="H6537".

This|strong="H1836" is the interpretation|strong="H6591" of the thing|strong="H4406": MENE|strong="H4484"; God|strong="H0426" hath numbered|strong="H4483" thy kingdom|strong="H4437", and finished|strong="H8000" it.

TEKEL|strong="H8625"; Thou art weighed|strong="H8625" in the balances|strong="H3977", and art found|strong="H7912" wanting|strong="H2627".

PERES|strong="H6537"; Thy kingdom|strong="H4437" is divided|strong="H6537", and given|strong="H3052" to the Medes|strong="H4076" and Persians|strong="H6540".

Then|strong="H0116" commanded|strong="H0560" Belshazzar|strong="H1113", and they clothed|strong="H3848" Daniel|strong="H1841" with scarlet|strong="H0711", and put a chain|strong="H2002" of gold|strong="H1722" about|strong="H5922" his neck|strong="H6676", and made a proclamation|strong="H3745" concerning|strong="H5922" him, that he should be|strong="H1934" the third|strong="H8531" ruler|strong="H7990" in the kingdom|strong="H4437".

In that night|strong="H3916" was Belshazzar|strong="H1113" the king|strong="H4430" of the Chaldeans|strong="H3779" slain|strong="H6992".

And Darius|strong="H1868" the Median|strong="H4077" took|strong="H6902" the kingdom|strong="H4437", being about threescore|strong="H8361" and two|strong="H8648" years|strong="H8140" old|strong="H1247".
