1 And in the second|strong="H8147" year|strong="H8141" of the reign|strong="H4438" of Nebuchadnezzar|strong="H5019" Nebuchadnezzar|strong="H5019" dreamed|strong="H2492" dreams|strong="H2472", wherewith his spirit|strong="H7307" was troubled|strong="H6470", and his sleep|strong="H8142" brake|strong="H1961" from him.
2 Then the king|strong="H4428" commanded|strong="H0559" to call|strong="H7121" the magicians|strong="H2748", and the astrologers|strong="H0825", and the sorcerers|strong="H3784", and the Chaldeans|strong="H3778", for to shew|strong="H5046" the king|strong="H4428" his dreams|strong="H2472". So they came|strong="H0935" and stood|strong="H5975" before|strong="H6440" the king|strong="H4428".
3 And the king|strong="H4428" said|strong="H0559" unto them, I have dreamed|strong="H2492" a dream|strong="H2472", and my spirit|strong="H7307" was troubled|strong="H6470" to know|strong="H3045" the dream|strong="H2472".
4 Then spake|strong="H1696" the Chaldeans|strong="H3778" to the king|strong="H4428" in Syriack|strong="H0762", O king|strong="H4430", live|strong="H2418" for ever|strong="H5957": tell|strong="H0560" thy servants|strong="H5649" the dream|strong="H2493", and we will shew|strong="H2324" the interpretation|strong="H6591".
5 The king|strong="H4430" answered|strong="H6032" and said|strong="H0560" to the Chaldeans|strong="H3779", The thing|strong="H4406" is gone|strong="H0230" from me|strong="H4481": if|strong="H2006" ye will not|strong="H3809" make known|strong="H3046" unto me the dream|strong="H2493", with the interpretation|strong="H6591" thereof, ye shall be cut|strong="H5648" in pieces|strong="H1917", and your houses|strong="H1005" shall be made|strong="H7761" a dunghill|strong="H5122".
6 But if|strong="H2006" ye shew|strong="H2324" the dream|strong="H2493", and the interpretation|strong="H6591" thereof, ye shall receive|strong="H6902" of|strong="H4481" me|strong="H6925" gifts|strong="H4978" and rewards|strong="H5023" and great|strong="H7690" honour|strong="H3367": therefore|strong="H3861" shew|strong="H2324" me the dream|strong="H2493", and the interpretation|strong="H6591" thereof.
7 They answered|strong="H6032" again|strong="H8579" and said|strong="H0560", Let the king|strong="H4430" tell|strong="H0560" his servants|strong="H5649" the dream|strong="H2493", and we will shew|strong="H2324" the interpretation|strong="H6591" of it.
8 The king|strong="H4430" answered|strong="H6032" and said|strong="H0560", I|strong="H0576" know|strong="H3046" of|strong="H4481" certainty|strong="H3330" that ye|strong="H0608" would gain|strong="H2084" the time|strong="H5732", because|strong="H6903" ye see|strong="H2370" the thing|strong="H4406" is gone|strong="H0230" from|strong="H4481" me.
9 But if|strong="H2006" ye will not|strong="H3809" make known|strong="H3046" unto me the dream|strong="H2493", there is but one|strong="H1932" decree|strong="H1882" for you: for ye have prepared|strong="H2164" lying|strong="H3538" and corrupt|strong="H7844" words|strong="H4406" to speak|strong="H0560" before|strong="H6925" me, till|strong="H5705" the time|strong="H5732" be changed|strong="H8133": therefore|strong="H3861" tell|strong="H0560" me the dream|strong="H2493", and I shall know|strong="H3046" that|strong="H1768" ye can shew|strong="H2324" me the interpretation|strong="H6591" thereof.
10 The Chaldeans|strong="H3779" answered|strong="H6032" before|strong="H6925" the king|strong="H4430", and said|strong="H0560", There is|strong="H0383" not|strong="H3809" a man|strong="H0606" upon|strong="H5922" the earth|strong="H3007" that can|strong="H3202" shew|strong="H2324" the king’s|strong="H4430" matter|strong="H4406": therefore|strong="H6903" there is no|strong="H3809" king|strong="H4430", lord|strong="H7229", nor ruler|strong="H7990", that asked|strong="H7593" such|strong="H1836" things|strong="H4406" at any|strong="H3606" magician|strong="H2749", or astrologer|strong="H0826", or Chaldean|strong="H3779".
11 And it is a rare|strong="H3358" thing|strong="H4406" that the king|strong="H4430" requireth|strong="H7593", and there is|strong="H0383" none|strong="H3809" other|strong="H0321" that can shew|strong="H2324" it before|strong="H6925" the king|strong="H4430", except|strong="H3861" the gods|strong="H0426", whose dwelling|strong="H4070" is|strong="H0383" not|strong="H3809" with|strong="H5974" flesh|strong="H1321".
12 For|strong="H6903" this|strong="H1836" cause|strong="H3606" the king|strong="H4430" was angry|strong="H1149" and very|strong="H7690" furious|strong="H7108", and commanded|strong="H0560" to destroy|strong="H0007" all|strong="H3606" the wise|strong="H2445" men of Babylon|strong="H0895".
13 And the decree|strong="H1882" went forth|strong="H5312" that the wise|strong="H2445" men should be slain|strong="H6992"; and they sought|strong="H1156" Daniel|strong="H1841" and his fellows|strong="H2269" to be slain|strong="H6992".
14 Then|strong="H0116" Daniel|strong="H1841" answered|strong="H8421" with counsel|strong="H5843" and wisdom|strong="H2942" to Arioch|strong="H0746" the captain|strong="H7229" of|strong="H1768" the king’s|strong="H4430" guard|strong="H2877", which was gone forth|strong="H5312" to slay|strong="H6992" the wise|strong="H2445" men of Babylon|strong="H0895":
15 He answered|strong="H6032" and said|strong="H0560" to Arioch|strong="H0746" the king’s|strong="H4430" captain|strong="H7990", Why|strong="H4101" is the decree|strong="H1882" so hasty|strong="H2685" from|strong="H4481" the king|strong="H4430"? Then|strong="H0116" Arioch|strong="H0746" made the thing|strong="H4406" known|strong="H3046" to Daniel|strong="H1841".
16 Then Daniel|strong="H1841" went in|strong="H5954", and desired|strong="H1156" of|strong="H4481" the king|strong="H4430" that he would give|strong="H5415" him time|strong="H2166", and that he would shew|strong="H2324" the king|strong="H4430" the interpretation|strong="H6591".
17 Then|strong="H0116" Daniel|strong="H1841" went|strong="H0236" to his house|strong="H1005", and made the thing|strong="H4406" known|strong="H3046" to Hananiah|strong="H2608", Mishael|strong="H4333", and Azariah|strong="H5839", his companions|strong="H2269":
18 That they would desire|strong="H1156" mercies|strong="H7359" of|strong="H4481" the God|strong="H0426" of heaven|strong="H8065" concerning|strong="H5922" this|strong="H1836" secret|strong="H7328"; that Daniel|strong="H1841" and his fellows|strong="H2269" should not|strong="H3809" perish|strong="H0007" with|strong="H5974" the rest|strong="H7606" of the wise|strong="H2445" men of Babylon|strong="H0895".
19 Then|strong="H0116" was the secret|strong="H7328" revealed|strong="H1541" unto Daniel|strong="H1841" in a night|strong="H3916" vision|strong="H2376". Then|strong="H0116" Daniel|strong="H1841" blessed|strong="H1289" the God|strong="H0426" of heaven|strong="H8065".
20 Daniel|strong="H1841" answered|strong="H6032" and said|strong="H0560", Blessed|strong="H1289" be|strong="H1934" the name|strong="H8036" of God|strong="H0426" for|strong="H4481" ever|strong="H5957" and ever|strong="H5705": for wisdom|strong="H2452" and might|strong="H1370" are|strong="H1932" his:
21 And he changeth|strong="H8133" the times|strong="H5732" and the seasons|strong="H2166": he removeth|strong="H5709" kings|strong="H4430", and setteth up|strong="H6966" kings|strong="H4430": he giveth|strong="H3052" wisdom|strong="H2452" unto the wise|strong="H2445", and knowledge|strong="H4486" to them that know|strong="H3046" understanding|strong="H0999":
22 He revealeth|strong="H1541" the deep|strong="H5994" and secret things|strong="H5642": he knoweth|strong="H3046" what|strong="H4101" is in the darkness|strong="H2816", and the light|strong="H5094" dwelleth|strong="H8271" with him|strong="H5974".
23 I|strong="H0576" thank|strong="H3029" thee, and praise|strong="H7624" thee, O thou God|strong="H0426" of my fathers|strong="H0002", who hast given|strong="H3052" me wisdom|strong="H2452" and might|strong="H1370", and hast made known|strong="H3046" unto me now|strong="H3705" what we desired|strong="H1156" of thee|strong="H4481": for thou hast now made known|strong="H3046" unto us the king’s|strong="H4430" matter|strong="H4406".
24 Therefore|strong="H3606" Daniel|strong="H1841" went in|strong="H5954" unto|strong="H5922" Arioch|strong="H0746", whom the king|strong="H4430" had ordained|strong="H4483" to destroy|strong="H0007" the wise|strong="H2445" men of Babylon|strong="H0895": he went|strong="H0236" and said|strong="H0560" thus|strong="H3652" unto him; Destroy|strong="H0007" not|strong="H0409" the wise|strong="H2445" men of Babylon|strong="H0895": bring me in|strong="H5954" before|strong="H6925" the king|strong="H4430", and I will shew|strong="H2324" unto the king|strong="H4430" the interpretation|strong="H6591".
25 Then|strong="H0116" Arioch|strong="H0746" brought in|strong="H5954" Daniel|strong="H1841" before|strong="H6925" the king|strong="H4430" in haste|strong="H0927", and said|strong="H0560" thus|strong="H3652" unto him, I have found|strong="H7912" a man|strong="H1400" of the captives|strong="H1123" of|strong="H4481" Judah|strong="H3061", that will make known|strong="H3046" unto the king|strong="H4430" the interpretation|strong="H6591".
26 The king|strong="H4430" answered|strong="H6032" and said|strong="H0560" to Daniel|strong="H1841", whose name|strong="H8036" was Belteshazzar|strong="H1096", Art|strong="H0383" thou able|strong="H3546" to make known|strong="H3046" unto me the dream|strong="H2493" which I have seen|strong="H2370", and the interpretation|strong="H6591" thereof?
27 Daniel|strong="H1841" answered|strong="H6032" in the presence|strong="H6925" of the king|strong="H4430", and said|strong="H0560", The secret|strong="H7328" which the king|strong="H4430" hath demanded|strong="H7593" cannot|strong="H3202" the wise|strong="H2445" men, the astrologers|strong="H0826", the magicians|strong="H2749", the soothsayers|strong="H1505", shew|strong="H2324" unto the king|strong="H4430";
28 But|strong="H1297" there is|strong="H0383" a God|strong="H0426" in heaven|strong="H8065" that revealeth|strong="H1541" secrets|strong="H7328", and maketh known|strong="H3046" to the king|strong="H4430" Nebuchadnezzar|strong="H5020" what|strong="H4101" shall be|strong="H1934" in the latter|strong="H0320" days|strong="H3118". Thy dream|strong="H2493", and the visions|strong="H2376" of thy head|strong="H7217" upon|strong="H5922" thy bed|strong="H4903", are these|strong="H1836";
29 As for thee|strong="H0607", O king|strong="H4430", thy thoughts|strong="H7476" came|strong="H5559" into thy mind upon|strong="H5922" thy bed|strong="H4903", what|strong="H4101" should come to pass|strong="H1934" hereafter|strong="H0311": and he that revealeth|strong="H1541" secrets|strong="H7328" maketh known|strong="H3046" to thee what|strong="H4101" shall come to pass|strong="H1934".
30 But as for me|strong="H0576", this|strong="H1836" secret|strong="H7328" is not|strong="H3809" revealed|strong="H1541" to me for any wisdom|strong="H2452" that I have|strong="H0383" more than|strong="H4481" any|strong="H3606" living|strong="H2417", but|strong="H3861" for their sakes|strong="H1701" that|strong="H5922" shall make known|strong="H3046" the interpretation|strong="H6591" to the king|strong="H4430", and that thou mightest know|strong="H3046" the thoughts|strong="H7476" of thy heart|strong="H3825".
31 Thou|strong="H0607", O king|strong="H4430", sawest|strong="H1934", and behold|strong="H0431" a great|strong="H2298" image|strong="H6755". This|strong="H1797" great|strong="H7229" image|strong="H6755", whose brightness|strong="H2122" was excellent|strong="H3493", stood|strong="H6966" before|strong="H6903" thee; and the form|strong="H7299" thereof was terrible|strong="H1763".
32 This image’s|strong="H6755" head|strong="H7217" was of fine|strong="H2869" gold|strong="H1722", his breast|strong="H2306" and his arms|strong="H1872" of silver|strong="H3702", his belly|strong="H4577" and his thighs|strong="H3410" of brass|strong="H5174",
33 His legs|strong="H8243" of iron|strong="H6523", his feet|strong="H7271" part|strong="H4481" of iron|strong="H6523" and part|strong="H4481" of clay|strong="H2635".
34 Thou sawest|strong="H2370" till|strong="H5705" that a stone|strong="H0069" was cut out|strong="H1505" without|strong="H3809" hands|strong="H3028", which smote|strong="H4223" the image|strong="H6755" upon|strong="H5922" his feet|strong="H7271" that were of iron|strong="H6523" and clay|strong="H2635", and brake|strong="H1855" them|strong="H1994" to pieces|strong="H1855".
35 Then|strong="H0116" was the iron|strong="H6523", the clay|strong="H2635", the brass|strong="H5174", the silver|strong="H3702", and the gold|strong="H1722", broken to pieces|strong="H1855" together|strong="H2298", and became|strong="H1934" like the chaff|strong="H5784" of|strong="H4481" the summer|strong="H7007" threshingfloors|strong="H0147"; and the wind|strong="H7308" carried|strong="H5376" them|strong="H1994" away|strong="H5376", that|strong="H3606" no|strong="H3809" place|strong="H0870" was found|strong="H7912" for them: and the stone|strong="H0069" that smote|strong="H4223" the image|strong="H6755" became|strong="H1934" a great|strong="H7229" mountain|strong="H2906", and filled|strong="H4391" the whole|strong="H3606" earth|strong="H0772".
36 This|strong="H1836" is the dream|strong="H2493"; and we will tell|strong="H0560" the interpretation|strong="H6591" thereof before|strong="H6925" the king|strong="H4430".
37 Thou|strong="H0607", O king|strong="H4430", art a king|strong="H4430" of kings|strong="H4430": for the God|strong="H0426" of heaven|strong="H8065" hath given|strong="H3052" thee a kingdom|strong="H4437", power|strong="H2632", and strength|strong="H8632", and glory|strong="H3367".
38 And wheresoever|strong="H3606" the children|strong="H1123" of men|strong="H0606" dwell|strong="H1753", the beasts|strong="H2423" of the field|strong="H1251" and the fowls|strong="H5776" of the heaven|strong="H8065" hath he given|strong="H3052" into thine hand|strong="H3028", and hath made thee ruler|strong="H7981" over them all|strong="H3606". Thou|strong="H0607" art this head|strong="H7217" of gold|strong="H1722".
39 And after|strong="H0870" thee shall arise|strong="H6966" another|strong="H0317" kingdom|strong="H4437" inferior|strong="H0772" to thee|strong="H4481", and another|strong="H0317" third|strong="H8523" kingdom|strong="H4437" of brass|strong="H5174", which shall bear rule|strong="H7981" over all|strong="H3606" the earth|strong="H0772".
40 And the fourth|strong="H7244" kingdom|strong="H4437" shall be|strong="H1934" strong|strong="H8624" as iron|strong="H6523": forasmuch as iron|strong="H6523" breaketh in pieces|strong="H1855" and subdueth|strong="H2827" all|strong="H3606" things: and as|strong="H6903" iron|strong="H6523" that breaketh|strong="H7490" all|strong="H3606" these|strong="H0459", shall it break in pieces|strong="H1855" and bruise|strong="H7490".
41 And whereas thou sawest|strong="H2370" the feet|strong="H7271" and toes|strong="H0677", part|strong="H4481" of potters’|strong="H6353" clay|strong="H2635", and part|strong="H4481" of iron|strong="H6523", the kingdom|strong="H4437" shall be|strong="H1934" divided|strong="H6386"; but|strong="H4481" there shall be|strong="H1934" in it of|strong="H4481" the strength|strong="H5326" of the iron|strong="H6523", forasmuch as|strong="H3606" thou sawest|strong="H2370" the iron|strong="H6523" mixed|strong="H6151" with miry|strong="H2917" clay|strong="H2635".
42 And as the toes|strong="H0677" of the feet|strong="H7271" were part|strong="H4481" of iron|strong="H6523", and part|strong="H4481" of clay|strong="H2635", so the kingdom|strong="H4437" shall be|strong="H1934" partly|strong="H4481" strong|strong="H8624", and partly|strong="H4481" broken|strong="H8406".
43 And whereas|strong="H1768" thou sawest|strong="H2370" iron|strong="H6523" mixed|strong="H6151" with miry|strong="H2917" clay|strong="H2635", they shall mingle themselves|strong="H1934" with the seed|strong="H2234" of men|strong="H0606": but they shall|strong="H1934" not|strong="H3809" cleave|strong="H1693" one|strong="H1836" to|strong="H5974" another|strong="H1836", even|strong="H1888" as iron|strong="H6523" is not|strong="H3809" mixed|strong="H6151" with clay|strong="H2635".
44 And in the days|strong="H3118" of these|strong="H0581" kings|strong="H4430" shall the God|strong="H0426" of heaven|strong="H8065" set up|strong="H6966" a kingdom|strong="H4437", which shall never|strong="H5957" be destroyed|strong="H2255": and the kingdom|strong="H4437" shall not|strong="H3809" be left|strong="H7662" to other|strong="H0321" people|strong="H5972", but it shall break in pieces|strong="H1855" and consume|strong="H5487" all|strong="H3606" these|strong="H0459" kingdoms|strong="H4437", and it|strong="H1932" shall stand|strong="H6966" for ever|strong="H5957".
45 Forasmuch as|strong="H3606" thou sawest|strong="H2370" that the stone|strong="H0069" was cut out|strong="H1505" of the mountain|strong="H2906" without|strong="H3809" hands|strong="H3028", and that it brake in pieces|strong="H1855" the iron|strong="H6523", the brass|strong="H5174", the clay|strong="H2635", the silver|strong="H3702", and the gold|strong="H1722"; the great|strong="H7229" God|strong="H0426" hath made known|strong="H3046" to the king|strong="H4430" what|strong="H4101" shall come to pass|strong="H1934" hereafter|strong="H0311": and the dream|strong="H2493" is certain|strong="H3330", and the interpretation|strong="H6591" thereof sure|strong="H0540".
46 Then|strong="H0116" the king|strong="H4430" Nebuchadnezzar|strong="H5020" fell|strong="H5308" upon|strong="H5922" his face|strong="H0600", and worshipped|strong="H5457" Daniel|strong="H1841", and commanded|strong="H0560" that they should offer|strong="H5260" an oblation|strong="H4504" and sweet odours|strong="H5208" unto him.
47 The king|strong="H4430" answered|strong="H6032" unto Daniel|strong="H1841", and said|strong="H0560", Of|strong="H4481" a truth|strong="H7187" it is, that|strong="H1768" your God|strong="H0426" is a God|strong="H0426" of gods|strong="H0426", and a Lord|strong="H4756" of kings|strong="H4430", and a revealer|strong="H1541" of secrets|strong="H7328", seeing thou couldest|strong="H3202" reveal|strong="H1541" this|strong="H1836" secret|strong="H7328".
48 Then|strong="H0116" the king|strong="H4430" made|strong="H7236" Daniel|strong="H1841" a great man|strong="H7236", and gave|strong="H3052" him many|strong="H7690" great|strong="H7260" gifts|strong="H4978", and made him ruler|strong="H7981" over|strong="H5922" the whole|strong="H3606" province|strong="H4083" of Babylon|strong="H0895", and chief|strong="H7229" of the governors|strong="H5460" over|strong="H5922" all|strong="H3606" the wise|strong="H2445" men of Babylon|strong="H0895".
49 Then Daniel|strong="H1841" requested|strong="H1156" of|strong="H4481" the king|strong="H4430", and he set|strong="H4483" Shadrach|strong="H7715", Meshach|strong="H4336", and Abed-nego|strong="H5665", over|strong="H5922" the affairs|strong="H5673" of the province|strong="H4083" of Babylon|strong="H0895": but Daniel|strong="H1841" sat in the gate|strong="H8651" of the king|strong="H4430".
