3 Dear friends, while|strong="G3956" I|strong="G1473" was|strong="G3588" making|strong="G4160" every|strong="G3956" effort|strong="G4710" to|strong="G4160" write|strong="G1125" to|strong="G4160" you|strong="G5210" about|strong="G4012" our|strong="G3956" common|strong="G2839" salvation|strong="G4991", I|strong="G1473" felt|strong="G2192" that|strong="G3588" I|strong="G1473" must|strong="G4160" write|strong="G1125" to|strong="G4160" you|strong="G5210" at|strong="G4012" once to|strong="G4160" encourage|strong="G3870" you|strong="G5210" to|strong="G4160" fight in|strong="G3956" defence of|strong="G4012" the|strong="G3956" faith|strong="G4102" that|strong="G3588" has|strong="G2192" once for|strong="G4012" all|strong="G3956" been|strong="G2192" entrusted|strong="G3860" to|strong="G4160" the|strong="G3956" keeping|strong="G2192" of|strong="G4012" Christ’s|strong="G2192" people|strong="G3956".
4 For|strong="G1063" there|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2532" crept|strong="G3921" in|strong="G1519" among|strong="G1519" you|strong="G2532" certain|strong="G5100" godless people|strong="G3588", whose|strong="G3588" sentence|strong="G2917" has|strong="G2316" long|strong="G3819" since|strong="G1063" been|strong="G2532" pronounced, and|strong="G2532" who|strong="G3588" make|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" mercy of|strong="G2316" God|strong="G2316" an|strong="G2532" excuse for|strong="G1063" profligacy, and|strong="G2532" disown our|strong="G2316" only|strong="G3441" lord|strong="G2962" and|strong="G2532" master|strong="G2962", Jesus|strong="G2424" Christ|strong="G5547".
5 Now|strong="G1161" I|strong="G1161" want|strong="G1014" to|strong="G1014" remind|strong="G5279" you|strong="G5210" – but|strong="G1161" you|strong="G5210" already know|strong="G1492" it|strong="G3754" all|strong="G3956" – that|strong="G3754", though|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3956" Lord|strong="G2962" delivered|strong="G5210" the|strong="G3956" people|strong="G2992" from|strong="G1537" Egypt, yet|strong="G1161" he|strong="G1161" afterwards destroyed those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" refused to|strong="G1014" believe|strong="G4100" in|strong="G3956" him|strong="G3588";
6 and|strong="G5037" that|strong="G3588" even|strong="G5037" those|strong="G3588" angels, who|strong="G3588" did|strong="G3361" not|strong="G3361" keep|strong="G5083" to|strong="G1519" their|strong="G1438" appointed spheres, but|strong="G3361" left their|strong="G1438" proper|strong="G2398" homes, have|strong="G3588" been|strong="G3361" kept|strong="G5083" by|strong="G5259" him|strong="G3588" for|strong="G1519" the|strong="G1519" judgment|strong="G2920" of|strong="G5259" the|strong="G1519" great|strong="G3173" day|strong="G2250" in|strong="G1519" everlasting chains|strong="G1199" and|strong="G5037" black|strong="G2217" darkness|strong="G2217".
7 Like|strong="G5613" Sodom|strong="G4670" and|strong="G2532" Gomorrah|strong="G1116" and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" towns|strong="G4172" near them|strong="G3588", which|strong="G3588" gave|strong="G2532" themselves|strong="G1438" up|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" fornication|strong="G1608", and|strong="G2532" fell|strong="G2532" into|strong="G1116" unnatural vice, these|strong="G3778" angels now|strong="G2532" stand|strong="G3778" out|strong="G2532" as|strong="G5613" a|strong="G5613" warning, undergoing|strong="G5254", as|strong="G5613" they|strong="G2532" are|strong="G3588", punishment|strong="G1349" in|strong="G2532" eternal fire|strong="G4442".
8 Yet|strong="G2532" in|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" same|strong="G3778" way|strong="G3668" these|strong="G3778" people|strong="G4561", too|strong="G2532", cherishing vain|strong="G2532" dreams, pollute our|strong="G2532" human|strong="G4561" nature, reject control, and|strong="G2532" malign the|strong="G2532" celestial beings.
9 Yet|strong="G1161" even|strong="G1161" Michael|strong="G3413", the|strong="G1161" archangel, when|strong="G3753", in|strong="G3004" his|strong="G4012" dispute with|strong="G4012" the|strong="G1161" devil|strong="G1228", he|strong="G1161" was|strong="G3588" arguing|strong="G1256" about|strong="G4012" the|strong="G1161" body|strong="G4983" of|strong="G4012" Moses|strong="G3475", did|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3756" venture|strong="G5111" to|strong="G3004" charge him|strong="G3588" with|strong="G4012" maligning, but|strong="G1161" said|strong="G3004" merely “The|strong="G1161" Lord|strong="G2962" rebuke|strong="G2008" you|strong="G4771"!”
10 But|strong="G1161" these|strong="G3778" people|strong="G1492" malign whatever|strong="G3745" they|strong="G1161" do|strong="G1492" not|strong="G3756" understand|strong="G1492"; while|strong="G1722" they|strong="G1161" use|strong="G3588" such|strong="G3778" things|strong="G3778" as|strong="G5613" they|strong="G1161" know|strong="G1492" by|strong="G1722" instinct|strong="G5447" (like|strong="G5613" the|strong="G1722" animals|strong="G2226" that|strong="G3588" have|strong="G3745" no|strong="G3756" reason) for|strong="G1161" their|strong="G1722" own corruption.
11 Alas|strong="G3759" for|strong="G3754" them|strong="G3588"! They|strong="G2532" walk|strong="G4198" in|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" steps of|strong="G2532" Cain|strong="G2535"; led astray by|strong="G2532" Balaam’s love of|strong="G2532" gain, they|strong="G2532" plunge into|strong="G4198" sin, and|strong="G2532" meet|strong="G3588" their|strong="G2532" ruin through rebellion like Korah|strong="G2879".
12 These|strong="G3778" are|strong="G1510" the|strong="G1722" people|strong="G1510" who|strong="G3588" are|strong="G1510" blots on|strong="G1722" your|strong="G1722" “love-feasts,” when|strong="G1722" they|strong="G3588" feast|strong="G4910" together|strong="G1722" and|strong="G3588" provide without|strong="G1438" scruple for|strong="G1722" themselves|strong="G1438" alone|strong="G1438". They|strong="G3588" are|strong="G1510" clouds|strong="G3507" without|strong="G1438" rain, driven before|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" winds; they|strong="G3588" are|strong="G1510" leafless trees|strong="G1186" without|strong="G1438" a|strong="G1722" vestige of|strong="G5259" fruit, dead through|strong="G1722" and|strong="G3588" through|strong="G1722", torn up|strong="G1722" by|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" roots|strong="G1610";
13 they|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" wild sea|strong="G2281" waves|strong="G2949", foaming with|strong="G1519" their|strong="G1438" own|strong="G1438" shame; they|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" “wandering|strong="G4107" stars,” for|strong="G1519" which|strong="G3739" the|strong="G1519" blackest darkness|strong="G4655" has|strong="G3739" been reserved|strong="G5083" for|strong="G1519" ever|strong="G1519".
14 To|strong="G2532" these|strong="G3778" people|strong="G3004", as|strong="G1722" to|strong="G2532" others, Enoch|strong="G1802", the|strong="G1722" seventh|strong="G1442" in|strong="G1722" descent from|strong="G2064" Adam, declared – “See|strong="G3708"! The|strong="G1722" Lord|strong="G2962" has|strong="G2962" come|strong="G2064" with|strong="G1722" his|strong="G1722" hosts of|strong="G2532" holy ones around him|strong="G3708",
15 to|strong="G2532" execute|strong="G4160" judgment|strong="G2920" on|strong="G2596" all|strong="G3956" people|strong="G3956", and|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" convict|strong="G1651" all|strong="G3956" godless people|strong="G3956" of|strong="G4012" all|strong="G3956" their|strong="G2532" godless acts|strong="G4160", which|strong="G3739" in|strong="G2596" their|strong="G2532" ungodliness they|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2532" committed|strong="G4160", and|strong="G2532" of|strong="G4012" all|strong="G3956" the|strong="G2532" harsh|strong="G4642" words|strong="G3056" which|strong="G3739" they|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2532" spoken|strong="G2980" against|strong="G2596" him|strong="G3588", godless sinners that|strong="G3739" they|strong="G2532" are|strong="G3588"!”
16 These|strong="G3778" people|strong="G1510" are|strong="G1510" always murmuring, and|strong="G2532" complaining of|strong="G2532" their|strong="G2532" lot; they|strong="G2532" follow|strong="G4198" where|strong="G2596" their|strong="G2532" passions|strong="G1939" lead|strong="G1510" them|strong="G3588"; they|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2532" arrogant|strong="G5246" words|strong="G4750" on|strong="G2596" their|strong="G2532" lips|strong="G4750"; and|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" flatter others|strong="G3588" for|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" sake|strong="G5484" of|strong="G2532" what|strong="G3588" they|strong="G2532" can get|strong="G2532" from|strong="G2532" them|strong="G3588".
17 But|strong="G1161" you|strong="G5210" should|strong="G3588", dear friends, recall|strong="G3403" what|strong="G3588" was|strong="G3588" foretold by|strong="G5259" the|strong="G1161" apostles of|strong="G5259" our|strong="G2424" Lord|strong="G2962" Jesus|strong="G2424" Christ|strong="G5547";
18 how|strong="G3754" they|strong="G3588" used to|strong="G2596" say|strong="G3004" to|strong="G2596" you|strong="G5210" – “As|strong="G2596" time|strong="G5550" draws to|strong="G2596" an|strong="G1510" end|strong="G2078", there|strong="G3754" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" scoffers|strong="G1703", who|strong="G3588" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" led by|strong="G2596" their|strong="G1438" godless passions|strong="G1939".”
19 These|strong="G3778" are|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" people|strong="G1510" – animal and|strong="G4151" unspiritual – who|strong="G3588" cause|strong="G3588" divisions.
20 But|strong="G1161" you|strong="G5210" must|strong="G3588", dear friends, build|strong="G2026" up|strong="G2026" your|strong="G1722" characters on|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" foundation of|strong="G4151" your|strong="G1722" most holy|strong="G4151" faith|strong="G4102", pray|strong="G4336" under|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" guidance of|strong="G4151" the|strong="G1722" Holy|strong="G4151" Spirit|strong="G4151",
21 and|strong="G2316" keep|strong="G5083" within|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" love of|strong="G2316" God|strong="G2316", while|strong="G1722" waiting|strong="G4327" for|strong="G1519" the|strong="G1722" mercy|strong="G1656" of|strong="G2316" our|strong="G2316" Lord|strong="G2962" Jesus|strong="G2424" Christ|strong="G5547", to|strong="G1519" bring|strong="G1519" you|strong="G1722" to|strong="G1519" eternal life|strong="G2222".
22 To|strong="G2532" some|strong="G3739" show|strong="G1651" pity, because|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" are|strong="G3739" in|strong="G2532" doubt|strong="G1252". “Drag them|strong="G3739" out|strong="G2532" of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" fire,” and|strong="G2532" save them|strong="G3739".
23 To|strong="G2532" others|strong="G3588" show|strong="G1653" pity, but|strong="G1161" with|strong="G1722" caution, hating|strong="G3404" the|strong="G1722" clothing polluted|strong="G4695" by|strong="G1722" their|strong="G2532" touch.
24 To|strong="G2532" him|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" is|strong="G3588" able|strong="G1410" to|strong="G2532" guard|strong="G5442" you|strong="G5210" from|strong="G2532" falling, and|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" bring|strong="G2532" you|strong="G5210" into|strong="G1722" his|strong="G1722" glorious|strong="G1391" presence|strong="G2714", blameless and|strong="G2532" rejoicing –
25 to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" one|strong="G3956" God|strong="G2316", our|strong="G2316" Saviour|strong="G4990", be|strong="G2532" ascribed, through|strong="G1223" Jesus|strong="G2424" Christ|strong="G5547", our|strong="G2316" Lord|strong="G2962", glory|strong="G1391", majesty|strong="G3172", power|strong="G1849", and|strong="G2532" dominion|strong="G2904", as|strong="G1519" it|strong="G2532" was|strong="G3588" before|strong="G4253" time|strong="G3568" began, is|strong="G3588" now|strong="G3568", and|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2316" be|strong="G2532" for|strong="G1519" all|strong="G3956" time|strong="G3568" to|strong="G1519" come|strong="G2532".
