2 Here|strong="G3778" is|strong="G3588" the|strong="G1537" one|strong="G3588" thing|strong="G3778" that|strong="G3588" I|strong="G3778" want|strong="G2309" to|strong="G2309" find|strong="G3129" out|strong="G1537" from|strong="G1537" you|strong="G5210" – Did|strong="G3588" you|strong="G5210" receive|strong="G2983" the|strong="G1537" Spirit|strong="G4151" as|strong="G3551" the|strong="G1537" result|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" obedience to|strong="G2309" Law|strong="G3551", or|strong="G2228" of|strong="G1537" your|strong="G2983" having|strong="G3129" listened with|strong="G1537" faith|strong="G4102"?
3 Can you|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" so|strong="G3779" foolish? After|strong="G2005" beginning with|strong="G4151" what|strong="G3779" is|strong="G1510" spiritual|strong="G4151", do|strong="G1510" you|strong="G1510" now|strong="G3568" end with|strong="G4151" what|strong="G3779" is|strong="G1510" external?
4 Did|strong="G2532" you|strong="G1487" go|strong="G2532" through so|strong="G2532" much|strong="G5118" to|strong="G2532" no|strong="G2532" purpose? – if|strong="G1487" indeed|strong="G2532" it|strong="G2532" really was|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" no|strong="G2532" purpose!
5 He|strong="G2532" who|strong="G3588" supplies|strong="G2023" you|strong="G5210" abundantly with|strong="G1722" his|strong="G1722" Spirit|strong="G4151" and|strong="G2532" endows you|strong="G5210" with|strong="G1722" such|strong="G3588" powers|strong="G1411" – does|strong="G2023" he|strong="G2532" do|strong="G2532" this|strong="G3588" as|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" result|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" obedience to|strong="G2532" Law|strong="G3551"? Or|strong="G2228" as|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" result|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" your|strong="G2532" having|strong="G2532" listened with|strong="G1722" faith|strong="G4102"?
6 It|strong="G2532" is|strong="G3588" just|strong="G2531" as|strong="G2531" it|strong="G2532" was|strong="G3588" with|strong="G2532" Abraham|strong="G4100" –
7 You|strong="G3754" see|strong="G1097", then|strong="G3754", that|strong="G3754" those|strong="G3588" whose|strong="G3588" lives are|strong="G1510" based|strong="G1537" on|strong="G1537" faith|strong="G4102" are|strong="G1510" the|strong="G1537" sons|strong="G5207" of|strong="G1537" Abraham.
8 And|strong="G1161" scripture|strong="G1124", foreseeing that|strong="G3754" God|strong="G2316" would|strong="G2316" pronounce the|strong="G1722" Gentiles|strong="G1484" righteous|strong="G1344" as|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" result|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" faith|strong="G4102", foretold the|strong="G1722" good|strong="G3956" news to|strong="G1722" Abraham in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" words –
9 And|strong="G4102", therefore|strong="G5620", those|strong="G3588" whose|strong="G3588" lives are|strong="G3588" based|strong="G1537" on|strong="G1537" faith|strong="G4102" share the|strong="G1537" blessings bestowed on|strong="G1537" the|strong="G1537" faith|strong="G4102" of|strong="G1537" Abraham.
10 All|strong="G3956" who|strong="G3739" rely on|strong="G1722" obedience to|strong="G1722" Law|strong="G3551" are|strong="G1510" under|strong="G5259" a|strong="G1722" curse|strong="G2671", for|strong="G1063" scripture|strong="G1125" says –
11 Again|strong="G1537", it|strong="G3754" is|strong="G3588" evident|strong="G1212" that|strong="G3754" no|strong="G3762" one|strong="G3762" is|strong="G3588" pronounced righteous|strong="G1342" before|strong="G3844" God|strong="G2316" through|strong="G1722" Law|strong="G3551", for|strong="G3754" we|strong="G3754" read –
12 But|strong="G1161" the|strong="G1722" Law|strong="G3551" is|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" based|strong="G1537" on|strong="G1722" faith|strong="G4102"; no|strong="G3756", its|strong="G1537" words are|strong="G1510" –
13 Christ|strong="G5547" ransomed us|strong="G2249" from|strong="G1537" the|strong="G3956" curse|strong="G2671" pronounced in|strong="G1909" the|strong="G3956" Law|strong="G3551", by|strong="G1537" taking|strong="G1096" the|strong="G3956" curse|strong="G2671" on|strong="G1909" himself for|strong="G3754" us|strong="G2249", for|strong="G3754" scripture|strong="G1125" says –
14 And|strong="G4151" this|strong="G3588" he|strong="G3588" did|strong="G1096" that|strong="G2443" the|strong="G1722" blessing|strong="G2129" given to|strong="G1519" Abraham might|strong="G1484" be|strong="G1096" extended to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G1722" Gentiles|strong="G1484" through|strong="G1223" their|strong="G1722" union with|strong="G1722" Jesus|strong="G2424" Christ|strong="G5547"; that|strong="G2443" so|strong="G2443", through|strong="G1223" our|strong="G2424" faith|strong="G4102", we|strong="G2443" also might|strong="G1484" receive|strong="G2983" the|strong="G1722" promised|strong="G1860" gift|strong="G2129" of|strong="G4151" the|strong="G1722" Spirit|strong="G4151".
15 To|strong="G2596" take an|strong="G2228" illustration, friends, from|strong="G2596" daily|strong="G2596" life|strong="G3762" – No|strong="G3762" one|strong="G3762" sets aside|strong="G2596" even|strong="G2596" an|strong="G2228" agreement between two people|strong="G3004", when|strong="G3004" once it|strong="G3004" has|strong="G3762" been confirmed|strong="G2964", nor|strong="G2228" do|strong="G3004" they|strong="G3004" add|strong="G1928" conditions|strong="G1928" to|strong="G2596" it|strong="G3004".
16 Now|strong="G1161" it|strong="G2532" was|strong="G1510" to|strong="G2532" Abraham that|strong="G3739" the|strong="G2532" promises|strong="G1860" were|strong="G1510" made|strong="G3756", “and|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" his|strong="G1909" offspring.” It|strong="G2532" was|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" said|strong="G3004" “to|strong="G2532" his|strong="G1909" offsprings,” as|strong="G5613" if|strong="G5613" many|strong="G4183" persons were|strong="G1510" meant|strong="G1510", but|strong="G1161" the|strong="G2532" words|strong="G2532" were|strong="G1510" “to|strong="G2532" your|strong="G2532" offspring,” showing that|strong="G3739" one|strong="G1520" person|strong="G3739" was|strong="G1510" meant|strong="G1510" – and|strong="G2532" that|strong="G3739" was|strong="G1510" Christ|strong="G5547".
17 My|strong="G5259" point is|strong="G3588" this|strong="G3778" – An|strong="G2532" agreement already confirmed by|strong="G5259" God|strong="G2316" cannot|strong="G3756" be|strong="G1096" canceled by|strong="G5259" the|strong="G2532" Law|strong="G3551", which|strong="G3588" came|strong="G1096" four|strong="G5071" hundred|strong="G5071" and|strong="G2532" thirty|strong="G5144" years|strong="G2094" later|strong="G3326", so|strong="G2532" as|strong="G1519" to|strong="G1519" cause|strong="G3588" the|strong="G2532" promise|strong="G1860" to|strong="G1519" be|strong="G1096" set|strong="G2532" aside.
18 If|strong="G1487" our|strong="G2316" heritage is|strong="G3588" the|strong="G1537" result|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" Law|strong="G3551", then|strong="G1161" it|strong="G1161" has|strong="G2316" ceased to|strong="G1161" be|strong="G2316" the|strong="G1537" result|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" a|strong="G1487" promise|strong="G1860". Yet|strong="G1161" God|strong="G2316" conferred it|strong="G1161" on|strong="G1537" Abraham by|strong="G1223" a|strong="G1487" promise|strong="G1860".
19 What|strong="G5101", then|strong="G3767", you|strong="G3739" ask, was|strong="G3588" the|strong="G1722" use|strong="G3588" of|strong="G1223" the|strong="G1722" Law|strong="G3551"? It|strong="G5101" was|strong="G3588" a|strong="G1722" later addition, to|strong="G2064" make|strong="G3767" people|strong="G3767" conscious of|strong="G1223" their|strong="G1722" wrongdoings, and|strong="G2064" intended to|strong="G2064" last only until|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" coming|strong="G2064" of|strong="G1223" that|strong="G3739" offspring to|strong="G2064" whom|strong="G3739" the|strong="G1722" promise|strong="G1861" had|strong="G3739" been made|strong="G1861"; and|strong="G2064" it|strong="G5101" was|strong="G3588" delivered through|strong="G1223" angels by|strong="G1223" a|strong="G1722" mediator|strong="G3316".
20 Now|strong="G1161" mediation implies more|strong="G1161" than|strong="G3756" one|strong="G1520" person|strong="G1520", but|strong="G1161" God|strong="G2316" is|strong="G1510" one|strong="G1520" only|strong="G3756".
21 Does|strong="G1510" that|strong="G3588" set|strong="G1096" the|strong="G1537" Law|strong="G3551" in|strong="G2596" opposition to|strong="G2596" God|strong="G2316"’s promises|strong="G1860"? Heaven forbid|strong="G1096"! For|strong="G1063", if|strong="G1487" a|strong="G1096" Law|strong="G3551" had|strong="G2316" been|strong="G1510" given|strong="G1325" capable of|strong="G1537" bestowing life|strong="G2227", then|strong="G3767" righteousness|strong="G1343" would|strong="G1096" have|strong="G1510" actually|strong="G1063" owed its|strong="G1325" existence to|strong="G2596" Law|strong="G3551".
22 But|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3956" words of|strong="G1537" scripture|strong="G1124" represent the|strong="G3956" whole|strong="G3956" world as|strong="G2443" being|strong="G5547" in|strong="G3956" bondage to|strong="G2443" sin, so|strong="G2443" that|strong="G2443" the|strong="G3956" promised|strong="G1860" blessing, dependent, as|strong="G2443" it|strong="G2443" is|strong="G3588", on|strong="G1537" faith|strong="G4102" in|strong="G3956" Jesus|strong="G2424" Christ|strong="G5547", may|strong="G2443" be|strong="G3956" given|strong="G1325" to|strong="G2443" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" have|strong="G3956" faith|strong="G4102" in|strong="G3956" him|strong="G3588".
23 Before|strong="G4253" the|strong="G1519" coming|strong="G2064" of|strong="G5259" faith|strong="G4102", we|strong="G1161" were|strong="G3588" kept|strong="G5432" under|strong="G5259" the|strong="G1519" guard|strong="G5432" of|strong="G5259" the|strong="G1519" Law|strong="G3551", in|strong="G1519" bondage, awaiting the|strong="G1519" faith|strong="G4102" that|strong="G3588" was|strong="G3588" destined to|strong="G1519" be|strong="G3195" revealed.
24 Thus|strong="G5620" the|strong="G1519" Law|strong="G3551" has|strong="G4102" proved|strong="G1096" a|strong="G1096" guide to|strong="G1519" lead us|strong="G1519" to|strong="G1519" Christ|strong="G5547", in|strong="G1519" order|strong="G2443" that|strong="G2443" we|strong="G2249" may|strong="G2443" be|strong="G1096" pronounced righteous|strong="G1344" as|strong="G1519" the|strong="G1519" result|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" faith|strong="G4102".
25 But|strong="G1161" now|strong="G1161" that|strong="G3588" faith|strong="G4102" has|strong="G4102" come|strong="G2064" we|strong="G1161" no|strong="G3765" longer|strong="G3765" need a|strong="G1510" guide.
26 For|strong="G1063" you|strong="G1722" are|strong="G1510" all|strong="G3956" sons|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" God|strong="G2316", through|strong="G1223" your|strong="G1223" faith|strong="G4102" in|strong="G1722" Christ|strong="G5547" Jesus|strong="G2424".
27 For|strong="G1063" all|strong="G3745" of|strong="G1519" you|strong="G3745" who|strong="G3745" were|strong="G3745" baptised into|strong="G1519" union with|strong="G1519" Christ|strong="G5547" clothed|strong="G1746" yourselves with|strong="G1519" Christ|strong="G5547".
28 All|strong="G3956" distinctions between|strong="G1722" Jew|strong="G2453" and|strong="G2532" Greek|strong="G1672", slave|strong="G1401" and|strong="G2532" free|strong="G1658", male and|strong="G2532" female|strong="G2338", have|strong="G2532" vanished; for|strong="G1063" in|strong="G1722" union with|strong="G1722" Christ|strong="G5547" Jesus|strong="G2424" you|strong="G5210" are|strong="G1510" all|strong="G3956" one|strong="G1520".
29 And|strong="G1161", since|strong="G1161" you|strong="G5210" belong|strong="G1510" to|strong="G2596" Christ|strong="G5547", it|strong="G1161" follows that|strong="G3588" you|strong="G5210" are|strong="G1510" Abraham’s offspring and|strong="G1161", under the|strong="G1161" promise|strong="G1860", sharers in|strong="G2596" the|strong="G1161" inheritance.
