2 I|strong="G2532" want you|strong="G5210" to|strong="G2532" recall|strong="G3403" what|strong="G3588" was|strong="G3588" foretold by|strong="G5259" the|strong="G2532" holy prophets|strong="G4396", as|strong="G2532" well|strong="G2532" as|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" command|strong="G1785" of|strong="G5259" our|strong="G2532" Lord|strong="G2962" and|strong="G2532" Saviour|strong="G4990" given to|strong="G2532" you|strong="G5210" through|strong="G5210" your|strong="G2962" apostles.
3 First|strong="G4413" be|strong="G3588" assured of|strong="G2250" this|strong="G3778", that|strong="G3754", as|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" age draws to|strong="G2596" an|strong="G1722" end|strong="G2078", scoffers|strong="G1703", led by|strong="G1722" their|strong="G2596" own|strong="G2398" passions|strong="G1939",
4 will|strong="G1510" come|strong="G1510" and|strong="G2532" ask|strong="G3004" scoffingly – “Where|strong="G4226" is|strong="G1510" his|strong="G3956" promised|strong="G1860" coming|strong="G3952"? Ever since|strong="G1063" our|strong="G2532" ancestors|strong="G3962" passed|strong="G3779" to|strong="G2532" their|strong="G2532" rest|strong="G1510", everything|strong="G3956" remains just|strong="G2532" as|strong="G2532" it|strong="G2532" was|strong="G1510" when|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" world was|strong="G1510" first|strong="G3588" created|strong="G2937"!”
5 For|strong="G1063" they|strong="G2532" wilfully shut their|strong="G1438" eyes to|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" fact|strong="G3754" that|strong="G3754" long|strong="G1597" ago|strong="G1597" the|strong="G2532" heavens|strong="G3772" existed|strong="G1510"; and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" earth|strong="G1093", also|strong="G2532" – formed|strong="G4921" out|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" water|strong="G5204" and|strong="G2532" by|strong="G1223" the|strong="G2532" action of|strong="G1537" water|strong="G5204", by|strong="G1223" the|strong="G2532" fiat of|strong="G1537" God|strong="G2316";
6 and|strong="G5204" that|strong="G3739" by|strong="G1223" the|strong="G1223" same|strong="G3739" means|strong="G1223" the|strong="G1223" world|strong="G2889" which|strong="G3739" then|strong="G5119" existed was|strong="G3588" destroyed in|strong="G1223" a|strong="G3739" deluge of|strong="G1223" water|strong="G5204".
7 But|strong="G1161" the|strong="G2532" present|strong="G3568" heavens|strong="G3772" and|strong="G2532" earth|strong="G1093", by|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" same|strong="G2532" fiat, have|strong="G2532" been|strong="G1510" reserved|strong="G5083" for|strong="G1519" fire|strong="G4442", and|strong="G2532" are|strong="G1510" being|strong="G1510" kept|strong="G5083" for|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" day|strong="G2250" of|strong="G3056" the|strong="G2532" judgment|strong="G2920" and|strong="G2532" destruction of|strong="G3056" the|strong="G2532" godless.
8 But|strong="G1161" you|strong="G5210", dear friends|strong="G3844", must|strong="G1520" never|strong="G3361" shut your|strong="G2962" eyes to|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" fact|strong="G3754" that|strong="G3754", to|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" Lord|strong="G2962", one|strong="G1520" day|strong="G2250" is|strong="G3778" the|strong="G2532" same|strong="G3778" as|strong="G5613" a|strong="G5613" thousand|strong="G5507" years|strong="G2094", and|strong="G2532" a|strong="G5613" thousand|strong="G5507" years|strong="G2094" as|strong="G5613" one|strong="G1520" day|strong="G2250".
9 The|strong="G1519" Lord|strong="G2962" is|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3756" slow|strong="G1019" to|strong="G1519" fulfil his|strong="G3956" promise|strong="G1860", as|strong="G5613" some|strong="G5100" count|strong="G2233" slowness|strong="G1022"; but|strong="G3361" he|strong="G3588" is|strong="G3588" forbearing with|strong="G1223" you|strong="G5210", as|strong="G5613" it|strong="G2233" is|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3756" his|strong="G3956" will|strong="G1014" that|strong="G3588" any|strong="G5100" of|strong="G1223" you|strong="G5210" should|strong="G5100" perish, but|strong="G3361" that|strong="G3588" all|strong="G3956" should|strong="G5100" be|strong="G3756" brought|strong="G1519" to|strong="G1519" repentance|strong="G3341".
10 The|strong="G1722" day|strong="G2250" of|strong="G2250" the|strong="G1722" Lord|strong="G2962" will|strong="G2532" come|strong="G2240" like|strong="G5613" a|strong="G5613" thief|strong="G2812"; and|strong="G2532" on|strong="G1722" that|strong="G3739" day|strong="G2250" the|strong="G1722" heavens|strong="G3772" will|strong="G2532" pass|strong="G3928" away|strong="G3928" with|strong="G1722" a|strong="G5613" crash, the|strong="G1722" elements|strong="G4747" will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" burnt|strong="G2532" up|strong="G2618" and|strong="G2532" dissolved|strong="G3089", and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" earth|strong="G1093" and|strong="G2532" all|strong="G2532" that|strong="G3739" is|strong="G3588" in|strong="G1722" it|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" disclosed.
11 Now|strong="G2532", since all|strong="G3956" these|strong="G3778" things|strong="G3956" are|strong="G3956" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" process of|strong="G2532" dissolution, think what|strong="G4217" you|strong="G5210" yourselves|strong="G4771" ought|strong="G1163" to|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" – what|strong="G4217" holy and|strong="G2532" pious lives you|strong="G5210" ought|strong="G1163" to|strong="G2532" lead|strong="G2532",
12 while|strong="G2250" you|strong="G3739" wait for|strong="G1223" the|strong="G2532" coming|strong="G3952" of|strong="G2250" the|strong="G2532" day|strong="G2250" of|strong="G2250" God|strong="G2316" and|strong="G2532" strive to|strong="G2532" make|strong="G2532" it|strong="G2532" come|strong="G2532" soon. At|strong="G1223" its|strong="G1223" coming|strong="G3952" the|strong="G2532" heavens|strong="G3772" will|strong="G2316" be|strong="G2532" dissolved|strong="G3089" in|strong="G2532" fire|strong="G4448", and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" elements|strong="G4747" melted by|strong="G1223" heat|strong="G2741",
13 but|strong="G1161" we|strong="G3739" look|strong="G4328" for|strong="G1161" new|strong="G2537" heavens|strong="G3772" and|strong="G2532" a|strong="G2532" new|strong="G2537" earth|strong="G1093", where|strong="G3739" righteousness|strong="G1343" will|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2532" its home, in|strong="G1722" fulfilment of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" promise|strong="G1862" of|strong="G2532" God|strong="G2532".
14 Therefore|strong="G1352", dear friends, in|strong="G1722" expectation|strong="G4328" of|strong="G2532" these|strong="G3778" things|strong="G3778", make|strong="G4704" every|strong="G1722" effort|strong="G4704" to|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" found|strong="G2147" by|strong="G1722" him|strong="G2532" spotless, blameless, and|strong="G2532" at|strong="G1722" peace|strong="G1515".
15 Regard|strong="G2233" our|strong="G2532" Lord|strong="G2962"’s|strong="G2962" forbearance as|strong="G2531" your|strong="G2962" one|strong="G3588" hope|strong="G2532" of|strong="G2532" salvation|strong="G4991". This|strong="G3588" is|strong="G3588" what|strong="G3588" our|strong="G2532" dear friend Paul|strong="G3972" wrote|strong="G1125" to|strong="G2532" you|strong="G5210", with|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" wisdom|strong="G4678" that|strong="G3588" God|strong="G2532" gave|strong="G1325" him|strong="G3588".

17 You|strong="G5210" must|strong="G3588", therefore|strong="G3767", dear friends|strong="G2398", now|strong="G3767" that|strong="G2443" you|strong="G5210" know|strong="G4267" this|strong="G3588" beforehand|strong="G4267", be|strong="G3361" on|strong="G2443" your|strong="G3588" guard|strong="G5442" against|strong="G3361" being|strong="G2443" led|strong="G3767" away|strong="G4879" by|strong="G3361" the|strong="G3588" errors of|strong="G3588" reckless people|strong="G3767", and|strong="G3767" so|strong="G2443" lapsing from|strong="G3588" your|strong="G3588" present steadfastness|strong="G4740";
18 and|strong="G2532" advance in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" love and|strong="G2532" knowledge|strong="G1108" of|strong="G2250" our|strong="G2424" Lord|strong="G2962" and|strong="G2532" Saviour|strong="G4990", Jesus|strong="G2424" Christ|strong="G5547".
