1 Since|strong="G3754", then|strong="G3767", Christ|strong="G5547" suffered|strong="G3958" in|strong="G2532" body|strong="G4561", arm|strong="G3695" yourselves|strong="G4771" with|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" same|strong="G2532" resolve as|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532"; for|strong="G3754" he|strong="G2532" who|strong="G3588" has|strong="G5547" suffered|strong="G3958" in|strong="G2532" body|strong="G4561" has|strong="G5547" ceased|strong="G3973" to|strong="G2532" sin,
2 and|strong="G2316" so|strong="G1519" will|strong="G2307" live the|strong="G1722" rest|strong="G1954" of|strong="G2316" his|strong="G1519" earthly|strong="G4561" life|strong="G4561" guided, not|strong="G3371" by|strong="G1722" human|strong="G4561" passions|strong="G1939", but|strong="G2316" by|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" will|strong="G2307" of|strong="G2316" God|strong="G2316".
3 Surely in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" past|strong="G3928" you|strong="G1722" have|strong="G2532" spent time|strong="G5550" enough living as|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" Gentiles|strong="G1484" delight to|strong="G2532" live|strong="G2532". For|strong="G1063" your|strong="G2532" path has|strong="G2532" lain among|strong="G1722" scenes of|strong="G2532" debauchery, licentiousness, drunkenness|strong="G3632", revelry, hard-drinking, and|strong="G2532" profane idolatry|strong="G1495".
4 And|strong="G3588", because|strong="G1722" you|strong="G5210" do|strong="G3361" not|strong="G3361" run|strong="G4936" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G1722" same|strong="G3739" extremes of|strong="G1722" profligacy as|strong="G1519" others|strong="G3588", they|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3588" astonished, and|strong="G3588" malign you|strong="G5210".
5 But|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2192" to|strong="G2532" answer|strong="G3056" for|strong="G2532" their|strong="G2532" conduct to|strong="G2532" him|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3739" is|strong="G3588" ready|strong="G2093" to|strong="G2532" judge|strong="G2919" both|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" living|strong="G2198" and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" dead|strong="G3498".
6 For|strong="G1063" that|strong="G2443" was|strong="G2532" why|strong="G1063" the|strong="G2532" good|strong="G2097" news|strong="G2097" was|strong="G2532" told to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" dead|strong="G3498" also|strong="G2532" – that|strong="G2443", after|strong="G2596" they|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2532" been|strong="G2532" judged|strong="G2919" in|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" body|strong="G4561", as|strong="G1519" people|strong="G4561" are|strong="G3778" judged|strong="G2919", they|strong="G2532" might|strong="G2532" live|strong="G2198" in|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" spirit|strong="G4151", as|strong="G1519" God|strong="G2316" lives|strong="G2198".
7 But|strong="G1161" the|strong="G2532" end|strong="G5056" of|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3956" things|strong="G3956" is|strong="G3588" near|strong="G1448". Therefore|strong="G3767" exercise self-restraint and|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" calm, so|strong="G3767" that|strong="G3588" you|strong="G3956" may|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" able to|strong="G1519" pray.
8 Above|strong="G4253" all|strong="G3956" things|strong="G3956", let|strong="G2192" your|strong="G2192" love for|strong="G3754" one|strong="G3956" another|strong="G1438" be|strong="G3956" earnest, for|strong="G3754" “Love throws a|strong="G2192" veil over|strong="G1519" countless sins.”
9 Never grudge hospitality|strong="G5382" to|strong="G1519" one|strong="G1519" another.
10 Whatever the|strong="G1519" gift|strong="G5486" that|strong="G1519" each|strong="G1538" has|strong="G2316" received|strong="G2983", use it|strong="G2531" in|strong="G1519" the|strong="G1519" service of|strong="G2316" others, as|strong="G5613" good|strong="G2570" stewards|strong="G3623" of|strong="G2316" the|strong="G1519" varied|strong="G4164" bounty of|strong="G2316" God|strong="G2316".
11 When|strong="G5613" anyone|strong="G5100" speaks|strong="G2980", they|strong="G2532" should|strong="G5100" speak|strong="G2980" as|strong="G5613" one|strong="G5100" who|strong="G3739" is|strong="G1510" delivering the|strong="G1722" oracles|strong="G3051" of|strong="G1537" God|strong="G2316". When|strong="G5613" anyone|strong="G5100" is|strong="G1510" endeavouring to|strong="G1519" serve|strong="G1247" others|strong="G3588", they|strong="G2532" should|strong="G5100" do|strong="G2532" so|strong="G2443" in|strong="G1722" reliance on|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" strength|strong="G2479" which|strong="G3739" God|strong="G2316" supplies|strong="G5524"; so|strong="G2443" that|strong="G2443" in|strong="G1722" everything|strong="G3956" God|strong="G2316" may|strong="G2532" be|strong="G1510" honoured|strong="G1392" through|strong="G1223" Jesus|strong="G2424" Christ|strong="G5547" – to|strong="G1519" whom|strong="G3739" be|strong="G1510" ascribed all|strong="G3956" honour|strong="G1391" and|strong="G2532" might|strong="G2479" for|strong="G1519" ever|strong="G1519" and|strong="G2532" ever|strong="G1519". 12 Dear friends, do|strong="G1096" not|strong="G3361" be|strong="G1096" astonished at|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" trial|strong="G3986" of|strong="G1722" fire that|strong="G3588" you|strong="G5210" are|strong="G3588" passing through|strong="G1722", to|strong="G4314" test you|strong="G5210", as|strong="G5613" though|strong="G5613" something strange|strong="G3581" were|strong="G3588" happening|strong="G1096" to|strong="G4314" you|strong="G5210".
13 No|strong="G2532", the|strong="G1722" more|strong="G2532" you|strong="G1722" share|strong="G2841" the|strong="G1722" sufferings|strong="G3804" of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" Christ|strong="G5547", the|strong="G1722" more|strong="G2532" may|strong="G2532" you|strong="G1722" rejoice|strong="G5463", that|strong="G2443", when|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" time|strong="G1722" comes|strong="G2532" for|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" manifestation of|strong="G2532" his|strong="G1722" glory|strong="G1391", you|strong="G1722" may|strong="G2532" rejoice|strong="G5463" and|strong="G2532" exult.
14 If|strong="G1487" you|strong="G5210" are|strong="G3588" insulted for|strong="G3754" bearing the|strong="G1722" name|strong="G3686" of|strong="G4151" Christ|strong="G5547", count yourselves|strong="G4771" blessed|strong="G3107"; because|strong="G3754" the|strong="G1722" divine glory|strong="G1391" and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G1722" Spirit|strong="G4151" of|strong="G4151" God|strong="G2316" are|strong="G3588" resting on|strong="G1909" you|strong="G5210".
15 I|strong="G1063" need hardly say that|strong="G3361" no|strong="G3361" one|strong="G5100" among you|strong="G5210" must|strong="G5100" suffer|strong="G3958" as|strong="G5613" a|strong="G5613" murderer|strong="G5406", or|strong="G2228" a|strong="G5613" thief|strong="G2812", or|strong="G2228" a|strong="G5613" criminal|strong="G2555", or|strong="G2228" for|strong="G1063" interfering in|strong="G1063" matters which|strong="G5100" do|strong="G3361" not|strong="G3361" concern Christians.
16 But|strong="G1161", if|strong="G1487" someone suffers as|strong="G5613" a|strong="G5613" Christian|strong="G5546", they|strong="G1161" should|strong="G2316" not|strong="G3361" be|strong="G3361" ashamed of|strong="G2316" it|strong="G1161"; they|strong="G1161" should|strong="G2316" bring honour|strong="G1392" to|strong="G1722" God|strong="G2316" even|strong="G1161" though|strong="G5613" they|strong="G1161" bear that|strong="G3588" name|strong="G3686".
17 For|strong="G3754" the|strong="G1161" time|strong="G2540" has|strong="G2316" come for|strong="G3754" judgment|strong="G2917" to|strong="G1161" begin with|strong="G2316" the|strong="G1161" house|strong="G3624" of|strong="G2316" God|strong="G2316"; and|strong="G1161", if|strong="G1487" it|strong="G3754" begins with|strong="G2316" us|strong="G2249", what|strong="G5101" will|strong="G2316" be|strong="G2316" the|strong="G1161" end|strong="G5056" of|strong="G2316" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G5101" reject God|strong="G2316"’s good|strong="G5101" news|strong="G2098"?
18 If|strong="G1487" “a|strong="G2532" good|strong="G3588" person|strong="G1342" is|strong="G3588" saved|strong="G4982" only|strong="G1487" with|strong="G2532" difficulty|strong="G3433", what|strong="G3588" will|strong="G2532" become|strong="G5316" of|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" godless and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" sinful?”
19 Therefore|strong="G5620", I|strong="G2532" say|strong="G2532", let|strong="G3958" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" suffer|strong="G3958", because|strong="G1722" God|strong="G2316" wills it|strong="G2532" so|strong="G2532", commit|strong="G3908" their|strong="G2532" lives|strong="G5590" into|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" hands of|strong="G2316" a|strong="G2532" faithful|strong="G4103" Creator|strong="G2939", and|strong="G2532" persevere in|strong="G1722" doing right.
