2 The|strong="G1161" person who|strong="G3588", when|strong="G1161" speaking|strong="G2980", uses the|strong="G1161" gift of|strong="G4151" “tongues|strong="G1100"” is|strong="G3588" speaking|strong="G2980", not|strong="G3756" to|strong="G3756" people|strong="G3588", but|strong="G1161" to|strong="G3756" God|strong="G2316", for|strong="G1063" no|strong="G3756" one|strong="G3762" understands them|strong="G3588"; yet|strong="G1161" in|strong="G2316" spirit|strong="G4151" they|strong="G1161" are|strong="G3588" speaking|strong="G2980" of|strong="G4151" hidden truths.
3 But|strong="G1161" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" preach|strong="G2980" are|strong="G3588" speaking|strong="G2980" to|strong="G2532" their|strong="G2532" fellow men|strong="G3588" and|strong="G2532" women words|strong="G2532" that|strong="G3588" will|strong="G2532" build|strong="G3619" up|strong="G2532" faith|strong="G2980", and|strong="G2532" give them|strong="G3588" comfort|strong="G3874" and|strong="G2532" encouragement|strong="G3874".
4 Those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588", when|strong="G1161" speaking|strong="G2980", use|strong="G3588" the|strong="G1161" gift of|strong="G1577" “tongues|strong="G1100"” build|strong="G3618" up|strong="G3618" their|strong="G1438" own|strong="G1438" faith|strong="G2980", while|strong="G2980" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" preach|strong="G2980" build|strong="G3618" up|strong="G3618" the|strong="G1161" faith|strong="G2980" of|strong="G1577" the|strong="G1161" church|strong="G1577".
5 Now|strong="G1161" I|strong="G1161" am|strong="G2309" happy for|strong="G1161" you|strong="G5210" all|strong="G3956" to|strong="G2443" speak|strong="G2980" in|strong="G2980" “tongues|strong="G1100",” but|strong="G1161" much|strong="G3123" more|strong="G3123" I|strong="G1161" wish|strong="G2309" that|strong="G2443" you|strong="G5210" should|strong="G3588" preach|strong="G2980". 7 Even|strong="G3676" with|strong="G3588" inanimate things|strong="G3588", such|strong="G3588" as|strong="G3588" a|strong="G1437" flute or|strong="G2228" a|strong="G1437" harp|strong="G2788", though|strong="G1437" they|strong="G3588" produce|strong="G1325" sounds|strong="G5456", yet|strong="G3676" unless|strong="G1437" the|strong="G3588" notes are|strong="G3588" quite distinct, how|strong="G4459" can|strong="G4459" the|strong="G3588" tune played on|strong="G2228" the|strong="G3588" flute or|strong="G2228" the|strong="G3588" harp|strong="G2788" be|strong="G3361" recognised?
8 If|strong="G1437" the|strong="G2532" bugle|strong="G4536" sounds|strong="G5456" a|strong="G2532" doubtful call|strong="G2532", who|strong="G5101" will|strong="G5101" prepare|strong="G3903" for|strong="G1063" battle|strong="G4171"?
9 And|strong="G2532" so|strong="G3779" with|strong="G1223" you|strong="G5210"; unless|strong="G1437", in|strong="G1519" using the|strong="G2532" gift of|strong="G3056" “tongues|strong="G1100",” you|strong="G5210" utter|strong="G1325" intelligible words|strong="G3056", how|strong="G4459" can|strong="G4459" what|strong="G3588" you|strong="G5210" say|strong="G2980" be|strong="G1510" understood|strong="G1097"? You|strong="G5210" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" speaking|strong="G2980" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G2532" winds!
10 There|strong="G2532" are|strong="G1510", for|strong="G1722" instance, a|strong="G2532" certain|strong="G2532" number of|strong="G2532" different languages|strong="G5456" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" world|strong="G2889", and|strong="G2532" not|strong="G1510" one|strong="G3762" of|strong="G2532" them|strong="G1722" fails to|strong="G2532" convey meaning.
11 If|strong="G1437", however|strong="G3767", I|strong="G1473" do|strong="G1492" not|strong="G3361" happen|strong="G1510" to|strong="G2532" know|strong="G1492" the|strong="G1722" language|strong="G5456", I|strong="G1473" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" a|strong="G2532" foreigner to|strong="G2532" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" speak|strong="G2980" it|strong="G2532", and|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" foreigners to|strong="G2532" me|strong="G1473".
12 And|strong="G2532" so|strong="G3779" with|strong="G4314" you|strong="G5210"; since|strong="G1893" you|strong="G5210" are|strong="G1510" striving|strong="G2212" for|strong="G4314" spiritual|strong="G4151" gifts, be|strong="G1510" eager to|strong="G4314" excel|strong="G4052" in|strong="G2532" such|strong="G3779" as|strong="G2532" will|strong="G1510" build|strong="G3619" up|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" faith of|strong="G4151" the|strong="G2532" church|strong="G1577".

14 If|strong="G1437", when|strong="G1161" praying|strong="G4336", I|strong="G1473" use|strong="G3588" the|strong="G1161" gift of|strong="G4151" “tongues|strong="G1100",” my|strong="G1473" spirit|strong="G4151" indeed|strong="G1063" prays|strong="G4336", but|strong="G1161" my|strong="G1473" mind|strong="G3563" is|strong="G1510" a|strong="G1510" blank.
15 What|strong="G5101", then|strong="G3767", is|strong="G1510" my|strong="G3588" conclusion? Simply this|strong="G3588" – I|strong="G2532" will|strong="G5101" pray|strong="G4336" with|strong="G2532" my|strong="G3588" spirit|strong="G4151", but|strong="G1161" with|strong="G2532" my|strong="G3588" mind|strong="G3563" as|strong="G1161" well|strong="G2532"; I|strong="G2532" will|strong="G5101" sing|strong="G5567" with|strong="G2532" my|strong="G3588" spirit|strong="G4151", but|strong="G1161" with|strong="G2532" my|strong="G3588" mind|strong="G3563" as|strong="G1161" well|strong="G2532".
16 If|strong="G1437" you|strong="G1437" bless|strong="G2127" God|strong="G3004" with|strong="G1909" your|strong="G4674" spirit|strong="G4151" only|strong="G3756", how|strong="G4459" can|strong="G3004" people|strong="G1492" in|strong="G1909" the|strong="G1909" congregation who|strong="G5101" are|strong="G3588" without|strong="G3756" your|strong="G4674" gift say|strong="G3004" “Amen” to|strong="G1909" your|strong="G4674" thanksgiving|strong="G2169"? They|strong="G3588" do|strong="G5101" not|strong="G3756" know|strong="G1492" what|strong="G5101" you|strong="G1437" are|strong="G3588" saying|strong="G3004"!
17 Your|strong="G3588" thanksgiving may be|strong="G3756" excellent, but|strong="G1063" the|strong="G3588" other|strong="G2087" is|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3756" helped by|strong="G1063" it|strong="G1063".
18 Thank|strong="G2168" God|strong="G2316", I|strong="G3956" use|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3956" gift of|strong="G2316" “tongues|strong="G1100"” more|strong="G3123" than|strong="G3123" any|strong="G3956" of|strong="G2316" you|strong="G5210".
19 But|strong="G2532" at|strong="G1722" a|strong="G2532" meeting of|strong="G3056" the|strong="G1722" church|strong="G1577" I|strong="G1473" would|strong="G2309" rather|strong="G2228" speak|strong="G2980" five|strong="G4002" words|strong="G3056" with|strong="G1722" my|strong="G1722" mind|strong="G3563", and|strong="G2532" so|strong="G2443" teach|strong="G2727" others|strong="G3588", than|strong="G2228" ten|strong="G3463" thousand|strong="G3463" words|strong="G3056" when|strong="G2532" using the|strong="G1722" gift of|strong="G3056" “tongues|strong="G1100".”
20 My|strong="G3588" friends, do|strong="G1096" not|strong="G3361" show|strong="G1096" yourselves|strong="G1096" children|strong="G3813" in|strong="G1096" understanding|strong="G5424". In|strong="G1096" wickedness|strong="G2549" be|strong="G1096" infants|strong="G3515", but|strong="G1161" in|strong="G1096" understanding|strong="G5424" show|strong="G1096" yourselves|strong="G1096" adults.

24 While|strong="G1161", if|strong="G1437" all|strong="G3956" those|strong="G1161" present use the|strong="G3956" gift of|strong="G5259" preaching, and|strong="G1161" an|strong="G2228" unbeliever, or|strong="G2228" someone|strong="G5100" without the|strong="G3956" gift, comes|strong="G1525" in|strong="G1525", they|strong="G1161" are|strong="G3956" convinced|strong="G1651" of|strong="G5259" their|strong="G3956" sinfulness by|strong="G5259" them|strong="G3956" all|strong="G3956", they|strong="G1161" are|strong="G3956" called to|strong="G5100" account by|strong="G5259" them|strong="G3956" all|strong="G3956";

30 But|strong="G1161", if|strong="G1437" some|strong="G3588" revelation is|strong="G3588" made|strong="G1161" to|strong="G1161" another|strong="G3588" person as|strong="G1161" he|strong="G1161" sits|strong="G2521" there|strong="G1161", the|strong="G1161" first|strong="G4413" speaker should|strong="G3588" stop.
31 For|strong="G1063" you|strong="G3956" can|strong="G1410" all|strong="G3956" preach|strong="G3870" in|strong="G2596" turn, so|strong="G2443" that|strong="G2443" all|strong="G3956" may|strong="G2532" learn|strong="G3129" some lesson and|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3956" receive|strong="G3129" encouragement.

33 for|strong="G1063" God|strong="G2316" is|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" a|strong="G5613" God|strong="G2316" of|strong="G2316" disorder, but|strong="G1063" of|strong="G2316" peace|strong="G1515".) 36 What|strong="G3588"! Did|strong="G2316" God|strong="G2316"’s message|strong="G3056" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G1519" world originate with|strong="G2316" you|strong="G5210"? Or|strong="G2228" did|strong="G2316" it|strong="G1519" find its way to|strong="G1519" none but|strong="G2316" you|strong="G5210"?
37 If|strong="G1487" anyone|strong="G5100" thinks|strong="G1380" that|strong="G3754" he|strong="G3739" has|strong="G2962" the|strong="G3754" gift of|strong="G2962" preaching or|strong="G2228" any|strong="G5100" other|strong="G3739" spiritual|strong="G4152" gift, he|strong="G3739" should|strong="G5100" recognise that|strong="G3754" what|strong="G3739" I|strong="G3739" am|strong="G1510" now|strong="G1510" saying|strong="G3754" to|strong="G5100" you|strong="G5210" is|strong="G1510" a|strong="G1510" command from|strong="G2962" the|strong="G3754" Lord|strong="G2962".
38 Anyone|strong="G5100" who|strong="G5100" ignores it|strong="G1161" may|strong="G5100" be|strong="G5100" ignored.
