2 “God’s|strong="G0846" kingdom|strong="G0932" is|strong="G0444" like|strong="G3666" a|strong="G4160" king|strong="G0935" who|strong="G3588" prepared a|strong="G4160" wedding|strong="G1062" feast|strong="G1062" for|strong="G0444" his|strong="G0846" son|strong="G5207".
3 He|strong="G2532" invited|strong="G2564" some|strong="G3588" people|strong="G0846" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" feast|strong="G1062". When|strong="G2532" it|strong="G0846" was|strong="G3588" ready, the|strong="G3588" king sent|strong="G0649" his|strong="G0846" servants|strong="G1401" to|strong="G1519" tell the|strong="G3588" people|strong="G0846" to|strong="G1519" come|strong="G2064". But|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" refused|strong="G3756" to|strong="G1519" come|strong="G2064" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" king’s feast|strong="G1062".
4 “Then|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3956" king sent|strong="G0649" some|strong="G3588" more|strong="G0243" servants|strong="G1401". He|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G1519" them|strong="G3004", ‘I|strong="G1473" have|strong="G2532" already invited|strong="G2564" the|strong="G3956" people|strong="G3956". So|strong="G2532" tell|strong="G3004" them|strong="G3004" that|strong="G3004" my|strong="G3708" feast|strong="G1062" is|strong="G3588" ready|strong="G2092". 6 Some|strong="G3588" of|strong="G1401" the|strong="G3588" other|strong="G3062" people|strong="G0846" grabbed the|strong="G3588" servants|strong="G1401", beat them|strong="G0846", and|strong="G2532" killed|strong="G0615" them|strong="G0846".
7 The|strong="G3588" king|strong="G0935" was|strong="G3588" very|strong="G0846" angry|strong="G3710". He|strong="G2532" sent|strong="G3992" his|strong="G0846" army|strong="G4753" to|strong="G2532" kill those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" murdered his|strong="G0846" servants. And|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" army|strong="G4753" burned their|strong="G0846" city|strong="G4172".
8 “After|strong="G1161" that|strong="G3004" the|strong="G3588" king said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" his|strong="G0846" servants|strong="G1401", ‘The|strong="G3588" wedding|strong="G1062" feast|strong="G1062" is|strong="G1510" ready|strong="G2092". I|strong="G1161" invited|strong="G2564" those|strong="G3588" people|strong="G0846", but|strong="G1161" they|strong="G0846" were|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" good|strong="G1510" enough to|strong="G3004" come|strong="G1510" to|strong="G3004" my|strong="G3004" feast|strong="G1062".
9 So|strong="G3767" go|strong="G4198" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" street corners and|strong="G2532" invite|strong="G2564" everyone|strong="G3745" you|strong="G1437" see. Tell them|strong="G2147" to|strong="G1519" come to|strong="G1519" my|strong="G2147" feast|strong="G1062".’
10 So|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3956" servants|strong="G1401" went|strong="G1831" into|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3956" streets|strong="G3598". They|strong="G2532" gathered|strong="G4863" all|strong="G3956" the|strong="G3956" people|strong="G3956" they|strong="G2532" could|strong="G2147" find|strong="G2147", good|strong="G0018" and|strong="G2532" bad|strong="G4190" alike|strong="G5037", and|strong="G2532" brought|strong="G1519" them|strong="G2147" to|strong="G1519" where|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3956" wedding|strong="G1062" feast|strong="G1062" was|strong="G3588" ready. 11 “When|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3588" king|strong="G0935" came|strong="G1525" in|strong="G1525" to|strong="G0444" meet the|strong="G3588" guests|strong="G0345", he|strong="G1161" saw|strong="G3708" a|strong="G3708" man|strong="G0444" there|strong="G1563" who|strong="G3588" was|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3756" dressed in|strong="G1525" the|strong="G3588" right clothes|strong="G1742" for|strong="G0444" a|strong="G3708" wedding|strong="G1062".
12 The|strong="G3588" king said|strong="G3004", ‘Friend|strong="G2083", how|strong="G4459" were|strong="G3588" you|strong="G3004" allowed to|strong="G3004" come|strong="G1525" in|strong="G2532" here|strong="G5602"? You|strong="G3004" are|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3361" wearing the|strong="G3588" right clothes|strong="G1742".’ But|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3588" man|strong="G3361" said|strong="G3004" nothing|strong="G3361".
13 So|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" king|strong="G0935" told|strong="G3004" some|strong="G3588" servants|strong="G1249", ‘Tie|strong="G1210" this|strong="G3588" man’s hands|strong="G5495" and|strong="G2532" feet|strong="G4228". Throw|strong="G1544" him|strong="G0846" out|strong="G1544" into|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" darkness|strong="G4655", where|strong="G1519" people|strong="G0846" are|strong="G1510" crying and|strong="G2532" grinding their|strong="G0846" teeth|strong="G3599" with|strong="G2532" pain.’
14 “Yes|strong="G1063", many|strong="G4183" people|strong="G1510" are|strong="G1510" invited. But|strong="G1161" only a|strong="G1510" few|strong="G3641" are|strong="G1510" chosen|strong="G1588".”
15 Then|strong="G5119" the|strong="G3588" Pharisees|strong="G5330" left the|strong="G3588" place|strong="G1722" where|strong="G1722" Jesus|strong="G0846" was|strong="G3588" teaching|strong="G3056". They|strong="G0846" made plans to|strong="G1722" catch him|strong="G0846" saying|strong="G3056" something wrong.
16 They|strong="G0846" sent|strong="G0649" some|strong="G3588" men|strong="G0444" to|strong="G1519" Jesus|strong="G0846". They|strong="G0846" were|strong="G1510" some|strong="G3588" of|strong="G2316" their|strong="G0846" own|strong="G0846" followers and|strong="G2532" some|strong="G3588" from|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" group called|strong="G3004" Herodians|strong="G2265". They|strong="G0846" said|strong="G3004", “Teacher|strong="G1320", we|strong="G2532" know|strong="G1492" you|strong="G4771" are|strong="G1510" an|strong="G1510" honest man|strong="G0444". We|strong="G2532" know|strong="G1492" you|strong="G4771" teach|strong="G1321" the|strong="G3588" truth|strong="G0225" about|strong="G4012" God’s|strong="G2316" way|strong="G3598". You|strong="G4771" are|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" afraid of|strong="G2316" what|strong="G3588" others|strong="G0444" think about|strong="G4012" you|strong="G4771". All|strong="G3588" people|strong="G0444" are|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" same|strong="G0846" to|strong="G1519" you|strong="G4771".
17 So|strong="G3767" tell|strong="G3004" us|strong="G1325" what|strong="G5101" you|strong="G4771" think|strong="G1380". Is|strong="G5101" it|strong="G3004" right to|strong="G3004" pay|strong="G1325" taxes|strong="G2778" to|strong="G3004" Caesar|strong="G2541" or|strong="G2228" not|strong="G3756"?”
18 But|strong="G1161" Jesus|strong="G2424" knew|strong="G1097" that|strong="G1097" these|strong="G3588" men|strong="G0846" were|strong="G3588" trying|strong="G3985" to|strong="G3004" trick him|strong="G0846". So|strong="G1161" he|strong="G0846" said|strong="G3004", “You|strong="G3004" hypocrites|strong="G5273"! Why|strong="G5101" are|strong="G3588" you|strong="G3004" trying|strong="G3985" to|strong="G3004" catch me|strong="G3004" saying|strong="G3004" something|strong="G5101" wrong?
19 Show|strong="G1925" me|strong="G1473" a|strong="G1161" coin|strong="G3546" used for|strong="G4374" paying the|strong="G3588" tax.” They|strong="G0846" showed Jesus|strong="G0846" a|strong="G1161" silver coin|strong="G3546".
20 Then|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" asked|strong="G3004", “Whose|strong="G5101" picture is|strong="G5101" on|strong="G0846" the|strong="G3588" coin? And|strong="G2532" whose|strong="G5101" name is|strong="G5101" written on|strong="G0846" the|strong="G3588" coin?”
21 They|strong="G0846" answered|strong="G3004", “It|strong="G0846" is|strong="G2316" Caesar’s|strong="G2541" picture and|strong="G2532" Caesar’s|strong="G2541" name.”
22 When|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" heard|strong="G0191" what|strong="G2532" Jesus|strong="G0846" said|strong="G2532", they|strong="G0846" were|strong="G2532" amazed|strong="G2296". They|strong="G0846" left|strong="G0863" him|strong="G0846" and|strong="G2532" went|strong="G0565" away|strong="G0565".
23 That|strong="G1565" same|strong="G0846" day|strong="G2250" some|strong="G3588" Sadducees|strong="G4523" came|strong="G4334" to|strong="G3004" Jesus|strong="G0846". (Sadducees|strong="G4523" believe that|strong="G1565" no|strong="G3361" one|strong="G3588" will|strong="G1510" rise|strong="G0386" from|strong="G3361" death.) The|strong="G3588" Sadducees|strong="G4523" asked|strong="G1905" Jesus|strong="G0846" a|strong="G1510" question|strong="G1905".
24 They|strong="G0846" said|strong="G3004", “Teacher|strong="G1320", Moses|strong="G3475" told|strong="G3004" us|strong="G3004" that|strong="G3004" if|strong="G1437" a|strong="G2192" married|strong="G1135" man|strong="G5100" dies|strong="G0599" and|strong="G2532" had|strong="G2192" no|strong="G3361" children|strong="G5043", his|strong="G0846" brother|strong="G0080" must|strong="G1135" marry|strong="G1918" the|strong="G3588" woman|strong="G1135". Then|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" will|strong="G5100" have|strong="G2192" children|strong="G5043" for|strong="G0599" the|strong="G3588" dead|strong="G0599" brother|strong="G0080".
25 There|strong="G1510" were|strong="G1510" seven|strong="G2033" brothers|strong="G0080" among|strong="G3844" us|strong="G0863". The|strong="G3588" first|strong="G4413" brother|strong="G0080" married|strong="G1060" but|strong="G1161" died|strong="G5053". He|strong="G2532" had|strong="G2192" no|strong="G3361" children|strong="G4690". So|strong="G2532" his|strong="G0846" brother|strong="G0080" married|strong="G1060" the|strong="G3588" woman|strong="G1135".
26 Then|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" second|strong="G1208" brother also|strong="G2532" died. The|strong="G3588" same|strong="G3668" thing|strong="G3668" happened|strong="G3588" to|strong="G2193" the|strong="G3588" third|strong="G5154" brother and|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" other brothers.
27 The|strong="G3956" woman|strong="G1135" was|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3956" last|strong="G5305" to|strong="G3956" die|strong="G0599".
28 But|strong="G1063" all|strong="G3956" seven|strong="G2033" men|strong="G3956" had|strong="G2192" married|strong="G1135" her|strong="G0846". So|strong="G3767" when|strong="G1722" people|strong="G3956" rise|strong="G0386" from|strong="G1722" death, whose|strong="G5101" wife|strong="G1135" will|strong="G1510" she|strong="G0846" be|strong="G1510"?”
29 Jesus|strong="G2424" answered|strong="G0611", “You|strong="G3004" are|strong="G3588" so|strong="G1161" wrong! You|strong="G3004" don’t|strong="G3361" know|strong="G1492" what|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" Scriptures|strong="G1124" say|strong="G3004". And|strong="G1161" you|strong="G3004" don’t|strong="G3361" know|strong="G1492" anything about|strong="G3588" God’s|strong="G2316" power|strong="G1411".
30 At|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" time when|strong="G5613" people|strong="G1510" rise|strong="G0386" from|strong="G1722" death, there|strong="G1510" will|strong="G2316" be|strong="G1510" no|strong="G0235" marriage|strong="G1060". People|strong="G1510" will|strong="G2316" not|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" married|strong="G1060" to|strong="G1722" each other. Everyone will|strong="G2316" be|strong="G1510" like|strong="G5613" the|strong="G3588" angels|strong="G0032" in|strong="G1722" heaven|strong="G3772".
31 Surely you|strong="G5210" have|strong="G3588" read|strong="G0314" what|strong="G3588" God|strong="G2316" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" you|strong="G5210" about|strong="G4012" people|strong="G3588" rising|strong="G0386" from|strong="G5259" death|strong="G3498".
32 God|strong="G2316" said|strong="G2532", ‘I|strong="G1473" am|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" God|strong="G2316" of|strong="G2316" Abraham|strong="G0011", the|strong="G3588" God|strong="G2316" of|strong="G2316" Isaac|strong="G2464", and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" God|strong="G2316" of|strong="G2316" Jacob|strong="G2384".’ So|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" were|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" still dead|strong="G3498", because|strong="G1510" he|strong="G2532" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" God|strong="G2316" only|strong="G3756" of|strong="G2316" living|strong="G2198" people|strong="G1510".”
33 When|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" people|strong="G3793" heard|strong="G0191" this|strong="G3588", they|strong="G0846" were|strong="G3793" amazed|strong="G1605" at|strong="G1909" Jesus’ teaching|strong="G1322".
34 The|strong="G3588" Pharisees|strong="G5330" learned that|strong="G3754" Jesus|strong="G0846" had|strong="G3748" made the|strong="G3588" Sadducees|strong="G4523" look so|strong="G1161" foolish that|strong="G3754" they|strong="G0846" stopped trying to|strong="G1909" argue with|strong="G1909" him|strong="G0846". So|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3588" Pharisees|strong="G5330" had|strong="G3748" a|strong="G0191" meeting|strong="G4863".
35 Then|strong="G2532" one|strong="G1520" of|strong="G1537" them|strong="G0846", an|strong="G2532" expert in|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" Law|strong="G3544" of|strong="G1537" Moses|strong="G0846", asked|strong="G1905" Jesus|strong="G0846" a|strong="G1520" question|strong="G1905" to|strong="G2532" test|strong="G3985" him|strong="G0846".
36 He|strong="G1722" said, “Teacher|strong="G1320", which|strong="G4169" command|strong="G1785" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" law|strong="G3551" is|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" most important|strong="G3173"?”
37 Jesus|strong="G0846" answered|strong="G5346", “‘Love|strong="G0025" the|strong="G3588" Lord|strong="G2962" your|strong="G0025" God|strong="G2316" with|strong="G1722" all|strong="G3650" your|strong="G0025" heart|strong="G2588", all|strong="G3650" your|strong="G0025" soul|strong="G5590", and|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3650" your|strong="G0025" mind|strong="G1271".’
38 This|strong="G3778" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" first|strong="G4413" and|strong="G2532" most important|strong="G3173" command|strong="G1785".
39 And|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3588" second|strong="G1208" command is|strong="G3588" like|strong="G5613" the|strong="G3588" first: ‘Love|strong="G0025" your|strong="G0025" neighbor|strong="G4139" the|strong="G3588" same|strong="G0846" as|strong="G5613" you|strong="G4771" love|strong="G0025" yourself|strong="G4572".’
40 All|strong="G3650" of|strong="G3551" the|strong="G3588" law|strong="G3551" and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" writings of|strong="G3551" the|strong="G3588" prophets|strong="G4396" take their|strong="G2532" meaning from|strong="G1722" these|strong="G3778" two|strong="G1417" commands|strong="G1785".”
41 So|strong="G1161" while|strong="G0846" the|strong="G3588" Pharisees|strong="G5330" were|strong="G5330" together|strong="G4863", Jesus|strong="G2424" asked|strong="G1905" them|strong="G0846" a|strong="G1438" question|strong="G1905".
42 He|strong="G0846" said|strong="G3004", “What|strong="G5101" do|strong="G1380" you|strong="G5210" think|strong="G1380" about|strong="G4012" the|strong="G3588" Messiah|strong="G5547"? Whose|strong="G5101" son|strong="G5207" is|strong="G1510" he|strong="G0846"?”
43 Jesus|strong="G0846" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" them|strong="G0846", “Then|strong="G3767" why|strong="G4459" did|strong="G2564" David|strong="G1138" call|strong="G2564" him|strong="G0846" ‘Lord’? David|strong="G1138" was|strong="G0846" speaking|strong="G3004" by|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" power of|strong="G4151" the|strong="G1722" Spirit|strong="G4151". 44 ‘The|strong="G3588" Lord|strong="G2962" God|strong="G3004" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" my|strong="G5087" Lord|strong="G2962":
45 David|strong="G1138" calls|strong="G2564" the|strong="G3767" Messiah ‘Lord|strong="G2962".’ So|strong="G3767" how|strong="G4459" can he|strong="G0846" be|strong="G1510" David’s|strong="G1138" son|strong="G5207"?”
46 None|strong="G3762" of|strong="G3056" the|strong="G3588" Pharisees could|strong="G1410" answer|strong="G0611" Jesus’ question|strong="G1905". And|strong="G2532" after|strong="G2532" that|strong="G1565" day|strong="G2250", no|strong="G3762" one|strong="G3762" was|strong="G3588" brave enough to|strong="G1410" ask|strong="G1905" him|strong="G0846" any|strong="G5100" more|strong="G3765" questions|strong="G1905".
