He|strong="G2532" put|strong="G4060" a|strong="G3618" wall|strong="G5418" around|strong="G4060" the|strong="G2532" field and|strong="G2532" dug|strong="G3736" a|strong="G3618" hole for|strong="G1722" a|strong="G3618" winepress. Then|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" built|strong="G3618" a|strong="G3618" tower|strong="G4444". He|strong="G2532" leased|strong="G1554" the|strong="G2532" land to|strong="G0757" some farmers and|strong="G2532" left for|strong="G1722" a|strong="G3618" trip.
2 “Later, it|strong="G0649" was|strong="G3588" time|strong="G2540" for|strong="G4314" the|strong="G3588" grapes to|strong="G4314" be|strong="G2532" picked|strong="G2983". So|strong="G2443" the|strong="G3588" man sent|strong="G0649" a|strong="G2983" servant|strong="G1401" to|strong="G4314" the|strong="G3588" farmers to|strong="G4314" get his|strong="G2983" share of|strong="G0575" the|strong="G3588" grapes.
3 But|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" farmers grabbed the|strong="G2532" servant and|strong="G2532" beat|strong="G1194" him|strong="G0846". They|strong="G0846" sent|strong="G0649" him|strong="G0846" away|strong="G0649" with|strong="G2532" nothing.
4 Then|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" man|strong="G0243" sent|strong="G0649" another|strong="G0243" servant|strong="G1401" to|strong="G4314" the|strong="G2532" farmers. They|strong="G0846" hit this|strong="G0846" servant|strong="G1401" on|strong="G0846" the|strong="G2532" head|strong="G2775", showing no respect for|strong="G4314" him|strong="G0846".
5 So|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" man|strong="G0243" sent|strong="G0649" another|strong="G0243" servant. The|strong="G2532" farmers killed|strong="G0615" this|strong="G3739" servant. The|strong="G2532" man|strong="G0243" sent|strong="G0649" many|strong="G4183" other|strong="G0243" servants to|strong="G2532" the|strong="G2532" farmers. The|strong="G2532" farmers beat|strong="G1194" some|strong="G3739" of|strong="G2532" them|strong="G3739" and|strong="G2532" killed|strong="G0615" the|strong="G2532" others|strong="G0243".
6 “The|strong="G3588" man|strong="G1520" had|strong="G2192" only|strong="G1438" one|strong="G1520" person|strong="G5207" left to|strong="G4314" send|strong="G0649" to|strong="G4314" the|strong="G3588" farmers. It|strong="G0846" was|strong="G3588" his|strong="G0846" son|strong="G5207". He|strong="G0846" loved his|strong="G0846" son|strong="G5207", but|strong="G1438" he|strong="G0846" decided to|strong="G4314" send|strong="G0649" him|strong="G0846". He|strong="G0846" said|strong="G3004", ‘The|strong="G3588" farmers will|strong="G3748" respect|strong="G1788" my|strong="G0649" son|strong="G5207".’
7 “But|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3588" farmers said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G4314" each|strong="G1438" other|strong="G1161", ‘This|strong="G3778" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" owner’s son, and|strong="G2532" this|strong="G3778" vineyard will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" his|strong="G0846". If|strong="G3748" we|strong="G2249" kill|strong="G0615" him|strong="G0846", it|strong="G0846" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" ours|strong="G1473".’
8 So|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" took|strong="G2983" the|strong="G3588" son, threw|strong="G1544" him|strong="G0846" out|strong="G1854" of|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" vineyard|strong="G0290", and|strong="G2532" killed|strong="G0615" him|strong="G0846".
9 “So|strong="G2532" what|strong="G5101" will|strong="G5101" the|strong="G3588" man|strong="G0243" who|strong="G3588" owns the|strong="G3588" vineyard|strong="G0290" do|strong="G4160"? He|strong="G2532" will|strong="G5101" go|strong="G2064" and|strong="G2532" kill those|strong="G3588" farmers. Then|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" will|strong="G5101" lease the|strong="G3588" land to|strong="G2064" others|strong="G0243".
10 Surely you|strong="G3739" have|strong="G1096" read|strong="G0314" this|strong="G3778" in|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" Scriptures|strong="G1124":
11 The|strong="G2532" Lord|strong="G2962" did|strong="G1510" this|strong="G3778",
12 When|strong="G2532" these|strong="G3748" Jewish leaders|strong="G3004" heard|strong="G1097" this|strong="G3588" story, they|strong="G0846" knew|strong="G1097" it|strong="G0846" was|strong="G3588" about|strong="G4314" them|strong="G0846". They|strong="G0846" wanted|strong="G2212" to|strong="G4314" find|strong="G1097" a|strong="G3793" way|strong="G0846" to|strong="G4314" arrest|strong="G2902" Jesus|strong="G0846", but|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" were|strong="G3793" afraid|strong="G5399" of|strong="G3004" what|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" crowd|strong="G3793" would|strong="G0846" do|strong="G5399". 13 Later, the|strong="G3588" Jewish leaders|strong="G0649" sent|strong="G0649" some|strong="G5100" Pharisees|strong="G5330" and|strong="G2532" some|strong="G5100" men|strong="G5100" from|strong="G0649" the|strong="G3588" group called Herodians|strong="G2265" to|strong="G4314" Jesus|strong="G0846". They|strong="G0846" wanted to|strong="G4314" catch him|strong="G0846" saying|strong="G3056" something|strong="G5100" wrong.
14 They|strong="G0846" went|strong="G2064" to|strong="G1519" Jesus|strong="G0846" and|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004", “Teacher|strong="G1320", we|strong="G2532" know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754" you|strong="G4771" are|strong="G1510" an|strong="G1510" honest man|strong="G0444". You|strong="G4771" are|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" afraid of|strong="G2316" what|strong="G3588" others|strong="G0444" think about|strong="G4012" you|strong="G4771". All|strong="G3588" people|strong="G0444" are|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" same|strong="G0846" to|strong="G1519" you|strong="G4771". And|strong="G2532" you|strong="G4771" teach|strong="G1321" the|strong="G3588" truth|strong="G0225" about|strong="G4012" God’s|strong="G2316" way|strong="G3598". Tell|strong="G3004" us|strong="G1325", is|strong="G1510" it|strong="G0846" right|strong="G1519" to|strong="G1519" pay|strong="G1325" taxes|strong="G2778" to|strong="G1519" Caesar|strong="G2541"? 15 But|strong="G1161" Jesus|strong="G0846" knew that|strong="G2443" these|strong="G3588" men|strong="G0846" were|strong="G3588" really trying|strong="G3985" to|strong="G2443" trick him|strong="G0846". He|strong="G0846" said|strong="G3004", “Why|strong="G5101" are|strong="G3588" you|strong="G3708" trying|strong="G3985" to|strong="G2443" catch me|strong="G3004" saying|strong="G3004" something|strong="G5101" wrong? Bring|strong="G5342" me|strong="G3004" a|strong="G3708" silver coin. Let|strong="G2443" me|strong="G3004" see|strong="G3708" it|strong="G0846".”
16 They|strong="G0846" gave Jesus|strong="G0846" a|strong="G3004" coin and|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" asked|strong="G3004", “Whose|strong="G5101" picture is|strong="G5101" on|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3588" coin? And|strong="G2532" whose|strong="G5101" name is|strong="G5101" written on|strong="G1161" it|strong="G0846"?” They|strong="G0846" answered|strong="G3004", “It|strong="G0846" is|strong="G5101" Caesar’s|strong="G2541" picture and|strong="G2532" Caesar’s|strong="G2541" name.”
17 Then|strong="G2532" Jesus|strong="G2424" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" them|strong="G0846", “Give|strong="G0591" to|strong="G3004" Caesar|strong="G2541" what|strong="G3588" belongs to|strong="G3004" Caesar|strong="G2541", and|strong="G2532" give|strong="G0591" to|strong="G3004" God|strong="G2316" what|strong="G3588" belongs to|strong="G3004" God|strong="G2316".” The|strong="G3588" men|strong="G0846" were|strong="G3588" amazed|strong="G2296" at|strong="G1909" what|strong="G3588" Jesus|strong="G2424" said|strong="G3004".
18 Then|strong="G2532" some|strong="G3004" Sadducees|strong="G4523" came|strong="G2064" to|strong="G4314" Jesus|strong="G0846". (Sadducees|strong="G4523" believe that|strong="G3004" no|strong="G3361" one|strong="G0846" will|strong="G1510" rise|strong="G0386" from|strong="G2064" death.) They|strong="G0846" asked|strong="G1905" him|strong="G0846" a|strong="G1510" question|strong="G1905":
19 “Teacher|strong="G1320", Moses|strong="G3475" wrote|strong="G1125" that|strong="G3754" if|strong="G1437" a|strong="G2983" married|strong="G2983" man|strong="G5100" dies|strong="G0599" and|strong="G2532" had|strong="G3748" no|strong="G3361" children|strong="G5043", his|strong="G0846" brother|strong="G0080" must|strong="G1135" marry|strong="G2983" the|strong="G3588" woman|strong="G1135". Then|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" will|strong="G5100" have|strong="G2532" children|strong="G5043" for|strong="G3754" the|strong="G3588" dead|strong="G0599" brother|strong="G0080".
20 There|strong="G1510" were|strong="G1510" seven|strong="G2033" brothers|strong="G0080". The|strong="G3588" first|strong="G4413" brother|strong="G0080" married|strong="G2983" but|strong="G2532" died|strong="G0599". He|strong="G2532" had|strong="G1510" no|strong="G3756" children|strong="G4690".
21 So|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" second|strong="G1208" brother married|strong="G2983" the|strong="G3588" woman. But|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" also|strong="G2532" died|strong="G0599" and|strong="G2532" had|strong="G3588" no|strong="G3361" children|strong="G4690". The|strong="G3588" same|strong="G0846" thing|strong="G5615" happened|strong="G3588" with|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" third|strong="G5154" brother.
22 All|strong="G3956" seven|strong="G2033" brothers married|strong="G1135" the|strong="G3956" woman|strong="G1135" and|strong="G2532" died|strong="G0599". None|strong="G3756" of|strong="G3956" the|strong="G3956" brothers had|strong="G3588" any|strong="G3956" children|strong="G4690" with|strong="G2532" her|strong="G0863". And|strong="G2532" she|strong="G1135" was|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3956" last|strong="G2078" to|strong="G2532" die|strong="G0599".
23 But|strong="G1063" all|strong="G3588" seven|strong="G2033" brothers had|strong="G2192" married|strong="G1135" her|strong="G0846". So|strong="G1063" at|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" time when|strong="G3752" people|strong="G0846" rise|strong="G0450" from|strong="G1722" death, whose|strong="G5101" wife|strong="G1135" will|strong="G1510" she|strong="G0846" be|strong="G1510"?”
24 Jesus|strong="G2424" answered|strong="G5346", “How could|strong="G3361" you|strong="G3778" be|strong="G2316" so|strong="G1223" wrong? It’s because|strong="G1223" you|strong="G3778" don’t|strong="G3756" know|strong="G1492" what|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" Scriptures|strong="G1124" say|strong="G5346". And|strong="G2316" you|strong="G3778" don’t|strong="G3756" know|strong="G1492" anything about|strong="G3588" God’s|strong="G2316" power|strong="G1411".
25 When|strong="G3752" people|strong="G1510" rise|strong="G0450" from|strong="G1537" death|strong="G3498", there|strong="G1510" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" no|strong="G0235" marriage|strong="G1060". People|strong="G1510" will|strong="G1510" not|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" married|strong="G1060" to|strong="G1722" each other. All|strong="G3588" people|strong="G1510" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" like|strong="G5613" angels|strong="G0032" in|strong="G1722" heaven|strong="G3772".
26 Surely you|strong="G3754" have|strong="G2532" read|strong="G0314" what|strong="G3588" God|strong="G2316" said|strong="G3004" about|strong="G4012" people|strong="G0846" rising from|strong="G1722" death|strong="G3498". In|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" book|strong="G0976" where|strong="G1722" Moses|strong="G3475" wrote about|strong="G4012" the|strong="G3588" burning bush|strong="G0942", it|strong="G0846" says|strong="G3004" that|strong="G3754" God|strong="G2316" told|strong="G3004" Moses|strong="G3475" this|strong="G3588": ‘I|strong="G1473" am|strong="G1473" the|strong="G3588" God|strong="G2316" of|strong="G2316" Abraham|strong="G0011", the|strong="G3588" God|strong="G2316" of|strong="G2316" Isaac|strong="G2464", and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" God|strong="G2316" of|strong="G2316" Jacob|strong="G2384".’
27 So they|strong="G1510" were|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" still dead|strong="G3498", because|strong="G1510" he|strong="G1510" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G1510" God|strong="G2316" only|strong="G3756" of|strong="G2316" living|strong="G2198" people|strong="G1510". You|strong="G1510" Sadducees are|strong="G1510" so wrong!”
28 One|strong="G1520" of|strong="G1520" the|strong="G3956" teachers of|strong="G1520" the|strong="G3956" law came|strong="G4334" to|strong="G2532" Jesus|strong="G0846". He|strong="G2532" heard|strong="G0191" Jesus|strong="G0846" arguing|strong="G4802" with|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3956" Sadducees and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3956" Pharisees. He|strong="G2532" saw|strong="G3708" that|strong="G3754" Jesus|strong="G0846" gave good|strong="G2573" answers|strong="G0611" to|strong="G2532" their|strong="G0846" questions|strong="G1905". So|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" asked|strong="G1905" him|strong="G0846", “Which|strong="G3748" of|strong="G1520" the|strong="G3956" commands|strong="G1785" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3956" most important?”
29 Jesus|strong="G2424" answered|strong="G0611", “The|strong="G3588" most important command is|strong="G1510" this|strong="G3588": ‘People|strong="G1510" of|strong="G2316" Israel|strong="G2474", listen|strong="G0191"! The|strong="G3588" Lord|strong="G2962" our|strong="G2316" God|strong="G2316" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" only Lord|strong="G2962".
30 Love|strong="G0025" the|strong="G3588" Lord|strong="G2962" your|strong="G0025" God|strong="G2316" with|strong="G1537" all|strong="G3650" your|strong="G0025" heart|strong="G2588", all|strong="G3650" your|strong="G0025" soul|strong="G5590", all|strong="G3650" your|strong="G0025" mind|strong="G1271", and|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3650" your|strong="G0025" strength|strong="G2479".’
31 The|strong="G3588" second|strong="G1208" most important|strong="G3173" command|strong="G1785" is|strong="G1510" this|strong="G3778": ‘Love|strong="G0025" your|strong="G0025" neighbor|strong="G4139" the|strong="G3588" same|strong="G3778" as|strong="G5613" you|strong="G4771" love|strong="G0025" yourself|strong="G4572".’ These|strong="G3778" two|strong="G1208" commands|strong="G1785" are|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" most important|strong="G3173".”
32 The|strong="G3588" man|strong="G1520" answered|strong="G3004", “That|strong="G3754" was|strong="G1510" a|strong="G1510" good|strong="G2573" answer, Teacher|strong="G1320". You|strong="G3754" are|strong="G1510" right|strong="G2573" in|strong="G1909" saying|strong="G3004" that|strong="G3754" God|strong="G0846" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" only|strong="G3756" Lord and|strong="G2532" that|strong="G3754" there|strong="G1510" is|strong="G1510" no|strong="G3756" other|strong="G0243" God|strong="G0846".
33 And|strong="G2532" you|strong="G1510" must|strong="G1510" love|strong="G0025" God|strong="G0846" with|strong="G1537" all|strong="G3956" your|strong="G0025" heart|strong="G2588", all|strong="G3956" your|strong="G0025" mind|strong="G2588", and|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3956" your|strong="G0025" strength|strong="G2479". And|strong="G2532" you|strong="G1510" must|strong="G1510" love|strong="G0025" others|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3956" same|strong="G0846" as|strong="G5613" you|strong="G1510" love|strong="G0025" yourself|strong="G0846". These|strong="G3588" commands are|strong="G1510" more|strong="G3956" important than|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3956" the|strong="G3956" animals and|strong="G2532" sacrifices|strong="G2378" we|strong="G2532" offer to|strong="G2532" God|strong="G0846".”
34 Jesus|strong="G2424" saw|strong="G3708" that|strong="G3754" the|strong="G3588" man|strong="G3762" answered|strong="G0611" him|strong="G0846" wisely. So|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" him|strong="G0846", “You|strong="G3754" are|strong="G1510" close to|strong="G3004" God’s|strong="G2316" kingdom|strong="G0932".” And|strong="G2532" after|strong="G2532" that|strong="G3754" time, no|strong="G3756" one|strong="G3762" was|strong="G1510" brave enough to|strong="G3004" ask|strong="G1905" Jesus|strong="G2424" any|strong="G3762" more|strong="G3765" questions|strong="G1905".
35 Jesus|strong="G2424" was|strong="G1510" teaching|strong="G1321" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" Temple|strong="G2411" area. He|strong="G2532" asked|strong="G3004", “Why|strong="G4459" do|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" teachers of|strong="G5207" the|strong="G3588" law say|strong="G3004" that|strong="G3754" the|strong="G3588" Messiah|strong="G5547" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" son|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" David|strong="G1138"?
36 With|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" help of|strong="G1537" the|strong="G3588" Holy|strong="G0040" Spirit|strong="G4151", David|strong="G1138" himself|strong="G0846" says|strong="G3004",
37 David|strong="G1138" himself|strong="G0846" calls|strong="G3004" the|strong="G3588" Messiah ‘Lord|strong="G2962".’ So|strong="G2532" how|strong="G4159" can|strong="G3004" the|strong="G3588" Messiah be|strong="G1510" David’s|strong="G1138" son|strong="G5207"?” Many|strong="G4183" people|strong="G3793" listened|strong="G0191" to|strong="G3004" Jesus|strong="G0846" and|strong="G2532" were|strong="G1510" very|strong="G0846" pleased.
38 Jesus|strong="G0846" continued teaching|strong="G1322". He|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004", “Be|strong="G2532" careful|strong="G0991" of|strong="G0575" the|strong="G3588" teachers of|strong="G0575" the|strong="G3588" law. They|strong="G0846" like|strong="G2309" to|strong="G3004" walk|strong="G4043" around|strong="G4043" wearing clothes that|strong="G3004" look|strong="G0991" important. And|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" love for|strong="G1722" people|strong="G0846" to|strong="G3004" show respect to|strong="G3004" them|strong="G0846" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" marketplaces.
39 They|strong="G2532" love to|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" most important seats|strong="G4410" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" synagogues|strong="G4864" and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" places|strong="G4411" of|strong="G1722" honor|strong="G4411" at|strong="G1722" banquets|strong="G1173".
40 But|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" cheat widows|strong="G5503" and|strong="G2532" take|strong="G2983" their|strong="G2532" homes. Then|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" try to|strong="G2532" make|strong="G4336" themselves look good by|strong="G2532" saying long|strong="G3117" prayers|strong="G4336". God will|strong="G3778" punish them|strong="G2983" very|strong="G3778" much.”
41 Jesus|strong="G2532" sat|strong="G2523" near|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" Temple collection box and|strong="G2532" watched|strong="G2334" as|strong="G1519" people|strong="G3793" put|strong="G0906" money|strong="G5475" into|strong="G1519" it|strong="G2532". Many|strong="G4183" rich|strong="G4145" people|strong="G3793" put|strong="G0906" in|strong="G1519" a|strong="G3793" lot of|strong="G3588" money|strong="G5475".
42 Then|strong="G2532" a|strong="G1510" poor|strong="G4434" widow|strong="G5503" came|strong="G2064" and|strong="G2532" put|strong="G0906" in|strong="G2532" two|strong="G1417" very|strong="G2532" small|strong="G3016" copper|strong="G3016" coins|strong="G3016", worth less than|strong="G2532" a|strong="G1510" penny|strong="G2835".
43 Jesus|strong="G0846" called|strong="G3004" his|strong="G0846" followers to|strong="G1519" him|strong="G0846" and|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004", “This|strong="G3778" poor|strong="G4434" widow|strong="G5503" put|strong="G0906" in|strong="G1519" only|strong="G2532" two small coins. But|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3956" truth is|strong="G3778", she|strong="G0846" gave|strong="G0906" more|strong="G4183" than|strong="G4183" all|strong="G3956" those|strong="G3588" rich people|strong="G3956".

This|strong="G3778" woman|strong="G3778" is|strong="G3778" very|strong="G0846" poor, but|strong="G1161" she|strong="G0846" gave|strong="G0906" all|strong="G3956" she|strong="G0846" had|strong="G2192". It|strong="G0846" was|strong="G3588" money|strong="G0846" she|strong="G0846" needed to|strong="G3778" live|strong="G0979" on|strong="G1537".”
