These|strong="H3605" old|strong="H2205" men|strong="H5971" had|strong="H3068" seen|strong="H7200" all|strong="H3605" the|strong="H3605" great|strong="H1419" things|strong="H3605" the|strong="H3605" LORD|strong="H3068" had|strong="H3068" done|strong="H6213" for|strong="H3117" the|strong="H3605" Israelites|strong="H3478".
8 Joshua|strong="H3091" son|strong="H1121" of|strong="H1121" Nun|strong="H5126", the|strong="H3068" servant|strong="H5650" of|strong="H1121" the|strong="H3068" LORD|strong="H3068", died|strong="H4191" at|strong="H3068" the|strong="H3068" age|strong="H1121" of|strong="H1121" 110 years|strong="H8141".
9 The|strong="H0853" Israelites buried|strong="H6912" Joshua on|strong="H2022" the|strong="H0853" land|strong="H5159" that|strong="H2022" he|strong="H0853" had|strong="H0853" been given. That|strong="H2022" was|strong="H1366" at|strong="H6912" Timnath Heres, in|strong="H6912" the|strong="H0853" hill|strong="H2022" country|strong="H2022" of|strong="H2022" Ephraim|strong="H0669", north|strong="H6828" of|strong="H2022" Mount|strong="H2022" Gaash|strong="H1608".
10 After|strong="H0310" that|strong="H0834" whole|strong="H3605" generation|strong="H1755" died, the|strong="H3605" next|strong="H0312" generation|strong="H1755" grew up|strong="H6965". 12 It|strong="H5439" was|strong="H0834" the|strong="H0853" LORD|strong="H3068", the|strong="H0853" God|strong="H0430" their|strong="H3068" ancestors|strong="H0001" worshiped|strong="H7812", who|strong="H0834" had|strong="H3068" brought|strong="H3318" the|strong="H0853" Israelites out|strong="H3318" of|strong="H0776" Egypt|strong="H4714". But|strong="H5800" they|strong="H0834" stopped following|strong="H0310" him|strong="H0853" and|strong="H3068" began to|strong="H3068" worship|strong="H7812" the|strong="H0853" false gods|strong="H0430" of|strong="H0776" the|strong="H0853" people|strong="H5971" living around|strong="H5439" them|strong="H0853". 13 The|strong="H0853" Israelites stopped following the|strong="H0853" LORD|strong="H3068" and|strong="H3068" began worshiping|strong="H5647" Baal|strong="H1168" and|strong="H3068" Ashtoreth.
14 The|strong="H0853" LORD|strong="H3068" was|strong="H3068" angry|strong="H2734" with|strong="H3068" the|strong="H0853" Israelites|strong="H3478", so|strong="H5414" he|strong="H3068" let|strong="H5414" enemies|strong="H0341" attack them|strong="H5414" and|strong="H3068" take|strong="H5414" their|strong="H3068" possessions. He|strong="H3068" let|strong="H5414" their|strong="H3068" enemies|strong="H0341" who|strong="H3068" lived around|strong="H5439" them|strong="H5414" defeat|strong="H5414" them|strong="H5414". 16 Then|strong="H6965" the|strong="H3068" LORD|strong="H3068" chose leaders|strong="H8199" called judges|strong="H8199". These leaders|strong="H8199" saved|strong="H3467" the|strong="H3068" Israelites from|strong="H3027" the|strong="H3068" enemies|strong="H6965" who|strong="H3068" took their|strong="H3068" possessions.
17 But|strong="H3588" the|strong="H0834" Israelites did|strong="H6213" not|strong="H3808" listen|strong="H8085" to|strong="H0413" their|strong="H3068" judges|strong="H8199". The|strong="H0834" Israelites were|strong="H0834" not|strong="H3808" faithful to|strong="H0413" God|strong="H0430"—they|strong="H0834" followed|strong="H0310" other|strong="H0312" gods|strong="H0430". 18 Many times|strong="H3117" the|strong="H3605" enemies|strong="H0341" of|strong="H3068" Israel did|strong="H3117" bad things|strong="H3605" to|strong="H1961" the|strong="H3605" people, so|strong="H1961" the|strong="H3605" Israelites would|strong="H3068" cry for|strong="H3588" help|strong="H3467". And|strong="H6965" each|strong="H3605" time|strong="H3117" the|strong="H3605" LORD|strong="H3068" felt sorry|strong="H5162" for|strong="H3588" the|strong="H3605" people and|strong="H6965" sent|strong="H3027" a|strong="H1961" judge|strong="H8199" to|strong="H1961" save|strong="H3467" them|strong="H6440" from|strong="H6440" their|strong="H3605" enemies|strong="H0341". The|strong="H3605" LORD|strong="H3068" was|strong="H1961" always|strong="H3117" with|strong="H5973" those|strong="H3605" judges|strong="H8199". They|strong="H3808" acted|strong="H7843" worse than|strong="H3808" their|strong="H7725" ancestors|strong="H0001" did|strong="H3808". The|strong="H0310" Israelites were|strong="H1961" very stubborn|strong="H7186" and|strong="H0430" refused|strong="H3808" to|strong="H4191" change|strong="H7725" their|strong="H7725" evil ways|strong="H1870".
20 So|strong="H3808" the|strong="H0853" LORD|strong="H3068" became|strong="H2734" angry|strong="H2734" with|strong="H3068" the|strong="H0853" Israelites|strong="H3478", and|strong="H3068" he|strong="H0834" said|strong="H0559", “This|strong="H2088" nation|strong="H1471" has|strong="H3068" broken|strong="H5674" the|strong="H0853" agreement|strong="H1285" that|strong="H0834" I|strong="H0834" made|strong="H8085" with|strong="H3068" their|strong="H3068" ancestors|strong="H0001". Those|strong="H0834" nations|strong="H1471" were|strong="H0834" still|strong="H1571" in|strong="H4191" this|strong="H0834" land|strong="H6440" when|strong="H0834" Joshua|strong="H3091" died|strong="H4191", and|strong="H0376" I|strong="H0589" will|strong="H0834" let|strong="H3808" them|strong="H6440" stay in|strong="H4191" this|strong="H0834" land|strong="H6440".
22 I|strong="H0834" will|strong="H3068" use them|strong="H1992" to|strong="H3068" test|strong="H5254" the|strong="H0853" Israelites|strong="H3478". I|strong="H0834" will|strong="H3068" see|strong="H0834" if|strong="H0518" the|strong="H0853" Israelites|strong="H3478" can|strong="H0518" keep|strong="H8104" the|strong="H0853" LORD’S|strong="H3068" commands|strong="H1870" as|strong="H0834" their|strong="H3068" ancestors|strong="H0001" did|strong="H0834".”
23 The|strong="H0853" LORD|strong="H3068" allowed|strong="H5414" those|strong="H0428" nations|strong="H1471" to|strong="H3068" stay in|strong="H3068" the|strong="H0853" land. He|strong="H3068" did|strong="H3808" not|strong="H3808" quickly|strong="H4118" force|strong="H3027" them|strong="H5414" to|strong="H3068" leave|strong="H3240" the|strong="H0853" country.
