2 Jesus’ followers asked|strong="G2065" him|strong="G0846", “Teacher, why|strong="G5101" was|strong="G3588" this|strong="G3778" man|strong="G3778" born|strong="G1080" blind|strong="G5185"? Whose|strong="G5101" sin|strong="G0264" made|strong="G3004" it|strong="G0846" happen? Was|strong="G3588" it|strong="G0846" his|strong="G0846" own|strong="G0846" sin|strong="G0264" or|strong="G2228" that|strong="G2443" of|strong="G1080" his|strong="G0846" parents|strong="G1118"?”
3 Jesus|strong="G2424" answered|strong="G0611", “It|strong="G0846" was|strong="G2424" not|strong="G0235" any sin|strong="G0264" of|strong="G2316" this|strong="G3778" man|strong="G3778" or|strong="G3777" his|strong="G0846" parents|strong="G1118" that|strong="G2443" caused him|strong="G0846" to|strong="G2443" be|strong="G2316" blind. He|strong="G0846" was|strong="G2424" born blind so|strong="G2443" that|strong="G2443" he|strong="G0846" could be|strong="G2316" used to|strong="G2443" show|strong="G5319" what|strong="G3588" great things|strong="G3778" God|strong="G2316" can do|strong="G0264".
4 While|strong="G2193" it|strong="G1510" is|strong="G1510" daytime|strong="G2250", we|strong="G2249" must|strong="G1163" continue doing|strong="G2038" the|strong="G3588" work|strong="G2041" of|strong="G2250" the|strong="G3588" one|strong="G3762" who|strong="G3588" sent|strong="G3992" me|strong="G1473". 7 Jesus|strong="G0846" told|strong="G3004" him|strong="G0846", “Go|strong="G5217" and|strong="G2532" wash|strong="G3538" in|strong="G1519" Siloam|strong="G4611" pool|strong="G2861".” (Siloam|strong="G4611" means|strong="G3004" “Sent|strong="G0649".”) So|strong="G3767" the|strong="G3588" man went|strong="G0565" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" pool|strong="G2861", washed|strong="G3538" and|strong="G2532" came|strong="G2064" back|strong="G0565". He|strong="G2532" was|strong="G3739" now|strong="G2532" able to|strong="G1519" see|strong="G0991".
8 His|strong="G0846" neighbors|strong="G1069" and|strong="G2532" some|strong="G3588" others|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" had|strong="G1510" seen|strong="G2334" him|strong="G0846" begging said|strong="G3004", “Look|strong="G2334"! Is|strong="G1510" this|strong="G3778" the|strong="G3588" same|strong="G0846" man|strong="G3778" who|strong="G3588" always sits|strong="G2521" and|strong="G2532" begs?”

13 Then|strong="G0846" the|strong="G3588" people|strong="G0846" brought|strong="G0071" the|strong="G3588" man|strong="G5185" to|strong="G4314" the|strong="G3588" Pharisees|strong="G5330".
14 The|strong="G3588" day|strong="G2250" Jesus|strong="G2424" had|strong="G2424" made|strong="G4160" mud|strong="G4081" and|strong="G2532" healed the|strong="G3588" man’s eyes|strong="G3788" was|strong="G1510" a|strong="G1510" Sabbath|strong="G4521" day|strong="G2250".

16 Some|strong="G5100" of|strong="G1537" the|strong="G3588" Pharisees|strong="G5330" said|strong="G3004", “That|strong="G3754" man|strong="G0444" does|strong="G4160" not|strong="G3756" obey|strong="G5083" the|strong="G3588" law about|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" Sabbath|strong="G4521" day|strong="G4521". So|strong="G3767" he|strong="G2532" is|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" from|strong="G1537" God|strong="G2316".”
17 They|strong="G0846" asked|strong="G3004" the|strong="G3588" man|strong="G5185" again|strong="G3825", “Since|strong="G3754" it|strong="G0846" was|strong="G1510" your|strong="G0455" eyes|strong="G3788" he|strong="G0846" healed, what|strong="G5101" do|strong="G1510" you|strong="G4771" say|strong="G3004" about|strong="G4012" him|strong="G0846"?”
18 The|strong="G3588" Jewish|strong="G2453" leaders|strong="G3754" still|strong="G2193" did|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" believe|strong="G4100" that|strong="G3754" this|strong="G3588" really happened|strong="G3588" to|strong="G2193" the|strong="G3588" man|strong="G5185"—that|strong="G3754" he|strong="G2532" was|strong="G1510" blind|strong="G5185" and|strong="G2532" was|strong="G1510" now|strong="G2532" healed. But|strong="G2532" later they|strong="G0846" sent for|strong="G3754" his|strong="G0846" parents|strong="G1118".
19 They|strong="G0846" asked|strong="G2065" them|strong="G0846", “Is|strong="G1510" this|strong="G3778" your|strong="G2532" son|strong="G5207"? You|strong="G5210" say|strong="G3004" he|strong="G2532" was|strong="G1510" born|strong="G1080" blind|strong="G5185". So|strong="G3767" how|strong="G4459" can|strong="G3004" he|strong="G2532" see|strong="G0991"?”
20 His|strong="G0846" parents|strong="G1118" answered|strong="G0611", “We|strong="G2249" know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754" this|strong="G3778" man|strong="G3778" is|strong="G1510" our|strong="G2532" son|strong="G5207". And|strong="G2532" we|strong="G2249" know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754" he|strong="G2532" was|strong="G1510" born|strong="G1080" blind|strong="G5185".
21 But|strong="G1161" we|strong="G2249" don’t|strong="G3756" know|strong="G1492" why|strong="G5101" he|strong="G0846" can see|strong="G0991" now|strong="G1161". We|strong="G2249" don’t|strong="G3756" know|strong="G1492" who|strong="G3588" healed his|strong="G0846" eyes|strong="G3788". Ask|strong="G2065" him|strong="G0846". He|strong="G0846" is|strong="G5101" old enough to|strong="G2228" answer for|strong="G4012" himself|strong="G1438".”
22 They|strong="G0846" said|strong="G3004" this|strong="G3778" because|strong="G3754" they|strong="G0846" were|strong="G2453" afraid|strong="G5399" of|strong="G5100" the|strong="G3588" Jewish|strong="G2453" leaders|strong="G3004". The|strong="G3588" leaders|strong="G3004" had|strong="G3748" already|strong="G2235" decided|strong="G1096" that|strong="G3754" they|strong="G0846" would|strong="G5547" punish anyone|strong="G5100" who|strong="G3588" said|strong="G3004" Jesus|strong="G0846" was|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" Messiah|strong="G5547". They|strong="G0846" would|strong="G5547" stop them|strong="G0846" from|strong="G3778" coming|strong="G1096" to|strong="G2443" the|strong="G3588" synagogue|strong="G0656".
23 That|strong="G3754" is|strong="G3778" why|strong="G1223" his|strong="G0846" parents|strong="G1118" said|strong="G3004", “He|strong="G0846" is|strong="G3778" old enough. Ask|strong="G1905" him|strong="G0846".”
24 So|strong="G3767" the|strong="G3588" Jewish leaders|strong="G3004" called|strong="G3004" the|strong="G3588" man|strong="G0444" who|strong="G3739" had|strong="G1510" been|strong="G1510" blind|strong="G5185". They|strong="G0846" told|strong="G3004" him|strong="G0846" to|strong="G3004" come|strong="G1510" in|strong="G2316" again|strong="G2532". They|strong="G0846" said|strong="G3004", “You|strong="G3739" should|strong="G2316" honor|strong="G1391" God|strong="G2316" by|strong="G1537" telling|strong="G3004" the|strong="G3588" truth. We|strong="G2249" know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754" this|strong="G3778" man|strong="G0444" is|strong="G1510" a|strong="G1510" sinner|strong="G0268".”
25 The|strong="G3767" man|strong="G5185" answered|strong="G0611", “I|strong="G1487" don’t|strong="G3756" know|strong="G1492" if|strong="G1487" he|strong="G3754" is|strong="G1510" a|strong="G1510" sinner|strong="G0268". But|strong="G1487" I|strong="G1487" do|strong="G1492" know|strong="G1492" this|strong="G1565": I|strong="G1487" was|strong="G1510" blind|strong="G5185", and|strong="G0611" now|strong="G0737" I|strong="G1487" can see|strong="G0991".”
26 They|strong="G0846" asked|strong="G3004", “What|strong="G5101" did|strong="G4160" he|strong="G0846" do|strong="G4160" to|strong="G3004" you|strong="G4771"? How|strong="G4459" did|strong="G4160" he|strong="G0846" heal your|strong="G4160" eyes|strong="G3788"?”
27 He|strong="G2532" answered|strong="G0611", “I|strong="G2532" have|strong="G2532" already|strong="G2235" told|strong="G3004" you|strong="G5210" that|strong="G3004". But|strong="G2532" you|strong="G5210" would|strong="G1096" not|strong="G3756" listen|strong="G0191" to|strong="G3004" me|strong="G3004". Why|strong="G5101" do|strong="G1096" you|strong="G5210" want|strong="G2309" to|strong="G3004" hear|strong="G0191" it|strong="G0846" again|strong="G3825"? Do|strong="G1096" you|strong="G5210" want|strong="G2309" to|strong="G3004" be|strong="G1096" his|strong="G0846" followers too|strong="G2532"?”
28 At|strong="G1161" this|strong="G3588" they|strong="G0846" shouted insults at|strong="G1161" him|strong="G0846" and|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004", “You|strong="G4771" are|strong="G1510" his|strong="G0846" follower, not|strong="G1510" us|strong="G3004"! We|strong="G2249" are|strong="G1510" followers of|strong="G3004" Moses|strong="G3475".
29 We|strong="G2249" know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754" God|strong="G2316" spoke|strong="G2980" to|strong="G2980" Moses|strong="G3475". But|strong="G1161" we|strong="G2249" don’t|strong="G3756" even|strong="G1161" know|strong="G1492" where|strong="G4159" this|strong="G3778" man|strong="G3778" comes|strong="G1510" from|strong="G2980"!”
30 The|strong="G3588" man|strong="G0444" answered|strong="G0611", “This|strong="G3778" is|strong="G1510" really strange! You|strong="G5210" don’t|strong="G3756" know|strong="G1492" where|strong="G4159" he|strong="G2532" comes|strong="G1510" from|strong="G1722", but|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" healed my|strong="G1722" eyes|strong="G3788".
31 We|strong="G1437" all|strong="G3588" know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754" God|strong="G2316" does|strong="G4160" not|strong="G3756" listen|strong="G0191" to|strong="G2532" sinners|strong="G0268", but|strong="G0235" he|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2307" listen|strong="G0191" to|strong="G2532" anyone|strong="G5100" who|strong="G3588" worships and|strong="G2532" obeys|strong="G4160" him|strong="G0846".
32 This|strong="G3588" is|strong="G5100" the|strong="G3588" first time|strong="G0165" we|strong="G3754" have|strong="G3748" ever|strong="G0165" heard|strong="G0191" of|strong="G1537" anyone|strong="G5100" healing the|strong="G3588" eyes|strong="G3788" of|strong="G1537" someone|strong="G5100" born|strong="G1080" blind|strong="G5185".
33 This|strong="G3778" man|strong="G3778" must|strong="G4160" be|strong="G1510" from|strong="G3844" God|strong="G2316". If|strong="G1487" he|strong="G3778" were|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" from|strong="G3844" God|strong="G2316", he|strong="G3778" could|strong="G1410" not|strong="G3756" do|strong="G4160" anything|strong="G3762" like this|strong="G3778".”
34 The|strong="G2532" Jewish leaders|strong="G3004" answered|strong="G0611", “You|strong="G4771" were|strong="G0846" born|strong="G1080" full|strong="G3650" of|strong="G1080" sin|strong="G0266"! Are|strong="G2532" you|strong="G4771" trying to|strong="G3004" teach|strong="G1321" us|strong="G3004"?” And|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" told|strong="G3004" the|strong="G2532" man to|strong="G3004" get out|strong="G1854" of|strong="G1080" the|strong="G2532" synagogue and|strong="G2532" to|strong="G3004" stay out|strong="G1854".
35 When|strong="G2532" Jesus|strong="G2424" heard|strong="G0191" that|strong="G3754" they|strong="G0846" had|strong="G2424" forced|strong="G1544" the|strong="G3588" man|strong="G0444" to|strong="G1519" leave|strong="G1544", he|strong="G2532" found|strong="G2147" him|strong="G0846" and|strong="G2532" asked|strong="G3004" him|strong="G0846", “Do|strong="G4100" you|strong="G4771" believe|strong="G4100" in|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" Son|strong="G5207" of|strong="G5207" Man|strong="G0444"?”
36 The|strong="G2532" man|strong="G1565" said|strong="G3004", “Tell|strong="G3004" me|strong="G3004" who|strong="G5101" he|strong="G2532" is|strong="G1510", sir|strong="G2962", so|strong="G2443" I|strong="G2532" can|strong="G3004" believe|strong="G4100" in|strong="G1519" him|strong="G0846".”
37 Jesus|strong="G2424" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" him|strong="G0846", “You|strong="G4771" have|strong="G1510" already seen|strong="G3708" him|strong="G0846". The|strong="G3588" Son of|strong="G3004" Man|strong="G1565" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" one|strong="G3588" talking|strong="G2980" with|strong="G3326" you|strong="G4771" now|strong="G2532".”
38 The|strong="G3588" man answered|strong="G5346", “Yes|strong="G1161", I|strong="G2532" believe|strong="G4100", Lord|strong="G2962"!” Then|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" bowed|strong="G4352" and|strong="G2532" worshiped|strong="G4352" Jesus|strong="G0846".
39 Jesus|strong="G2424" said|strong="G3004", “I|strong="G1473" came|strong="G2064" into|strong="G1519" this|strong="G3778" world|strong="G2889" so|strong="G2443" that|strong="G2443" the|strong="G3588" world|strong="G2889" could|strong="G1096" be|strong="G1096" judged. I|strong="G1473" came|strong="G2064" so|strong="G2443" that|strong="G2443" people|strong="G3778" who|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3778" blind|strong="G5185" could|strong="G1096" see|strong="G0991". 40 Some|strong="G1537" of|strong="G1537" the|strong="G3588" Pharisees|strong="G5330" were|strong="G1510" near Jesus|strong="G0846". They|strong="G0846" heard|strong="G0191" him|strong="G0846" say|strong="G3004" this|strong="G3588". They|strong="G0846" asked|strong="G3004", “What|strong="G3588"? Are|strong="G1510" you|strong="G3004" saying|strong="G3004" that|strong="G3004" we|strong="G2249" are|strong="G1510" blind|strong="G5185" too|strong="G2532"?”
41 Jesus|strong="G2424" said|strong="G3004", “If|strong="G1487" you|strong="G5210" were|strong="G1510" really blind|strong="G5185", you|strong="G5210" would|strong="G0302" not|strong="G3756" be|strong="G1510" guilty of|strong="G3004" sin|strong="G0266". But|strong="G1161" you|strong="G5210" say|strong="G3004" that|strong="G3754" you|strong="G5210" see|strong="G0991", so|strong="G1161" you|strong="G5210" are|strong="G1510" still guilty.”
