1 Two days|strong="G2250" later there|strong="G1563" was|strong="G1510" a|strong="G1096" wedding|strong="G1062" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" town|strong="G2532" of|strong="G2250" Cana|strong="G2580" in|strong="G1722" Galilee|strong="G1056", and|strong="G2532" Jesus’|strong="G2424" mother|strong="G3384" was|strong="G1510" there|strong="G1563".
2 Jesus|strong="G2424" and|strong="G2532" his|strong="G0846" followers were|strong="G3101" also|strong="G2532" invited|strong="G2564".
3 At|strong="G4314" the|strong="G3588" wedding|strong="G1062" there|strong="G1510" was|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" enough wine|strong="G3631", so|strong="G2532" Jesus’|strong="G2424" mother|strong="G3384" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G4314" him|strong="G0846", “They|strong="G0846" have|strong="G2192" no|strong="G3756" more|strong="G3756" wine|strong="G3631".”
4 Jesus|strong="G2424" answered|strong="G3004", “Dear woman|strong="G1135", why|strong="G5101" are|strong="G3588" you|strong="G4771" telling|strong="G3004" me|strong="G3004" this|strong="G3588"? It|strong="G0846" is|strong="G5101" not|strong="G3768" yet|strong="G2532" time|strong="G5610" for|strong="G2532" me|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" begin my|strong="G3004" work.”
5 His|strong="G0846" mother|strong="G3384" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" the|strong="G3588" servants|strong="G1249", “Do|strong="G4160" what|strong="G3739" he|strong="G0846" tells you|strong="G5210".”
6 There|strong="G1563" were|strong="G1510" six|strong="G1803" large stone|strong="G3035" waterpots|strong="G5201" there|strong="G1563" that|strong="G1161" were|strong="G1510" used by|strong="G2596" the|strong="G3588" Jews|strong="G2453" in|strong="G2596" their|strong="G2596" washing ceremonies. Each|strong="G0303" one|strong="G3588" held about|strong="G2596" 20 or|strong="G2228" 30 gallons|strong="G3355".
7 Jesus|strong="G2424" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" the|strong="G3588" servants, “Fill|strong="G1072" the|strong="G3588" waterpots|strong="G5201" with|strong="G2532" water|strong="G5204".” So|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" filled|strong="G1072" them|strong="G0846" to|strong="G3004" the|strong="G3588" top.
8 Then|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" them|strong="G0846", “Now|strong="G1161" dip out some|strong="G3588" water and|strong="G2532" take|strong="G5342" it|strong="G0846" to|strong="G3004" the|strong="G3588" man in|strong="G2532" charge of|strong="G3004" the|strong="G3588" feast.”
9 Then|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" man in|strong="G2532" charge tasted|strong="G1089" it|strong="G1161", but|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3588" water|strong="G5204" had|strong="G1510" become|strong="G1096" wine|strong="G3631". He|strong="G2532" did|strong="G1492" not|strong="G3756" know|strong="G1492" where|strong="G4159" the|strong="G3588" wine|strong="G3631" had|strong="G1510" come|strong="G1096" from|strong="G2532", but|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3588" servants|strong="G1249" who|strong="G3588" brought|strong="G1096" the|strong="G3588" water|strong="G5204" knew|strong="G1492". He|strong="G2532" called|strong="G5455" the|strong="G3588" bridegroom|strong="G3566"
10 and|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" him|strong="G0846", “People|strong="G0444" always|strong="G3956" serve the|strong="G3956" best|strong="G4413" wine|strong="G3631" first|strong="G4413". Later, when|strong="G3752" the|strong="G3956" guests are|strong="G3956" drunk|strong="G3184", they|strong="G0846" serve the|strong="G3956" cheaper wine|strong="G3631". But|strong="G2532" you|strong="G4771" have|strong="G2532" saved the|strong="G3956" best|strong="G4413" wine|strong="G3631" until|strong="G2193" now|strong="G2532".”
11 This|strong="G3778" was|strong="G2424" the|strong="G3588" first|strong="G0746" of|strong="G1391" all|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" miraculous signs|strong="G4592" Jesus|strong="G2424" did|strong="G4160". He|strong="G2532" did|strong="G4160" it|strong="G0846" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" town|strong="G2532" of|strong="G1391" Cana|strong="G2580" in|strong="G1722" Galilee|strong="G1056". By|strong="G1722" this|strong="G3778" he|strong="G2532" showed|strong="G4160" his|strong="G0846" divine greatness, and|strong="G2532" his|strong="G0846" followers believed|strong="G4100" in|strong="G1722" him|strong="G0846".
12 Then|strong="G2532" Jesus|strong="G0846" went|strong="G2597" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" town|strong="G2532" of|strong="G2250" Capernaum|strong="G2584". His|strong="G0846" mother|strong="G3384" and|strong="G2532" brothers|strong="G0080" and|strong="G2532" his|strong="G0846" followers went|strong="G2597" with|strong="G3326" him|strong="G0846". They|strong="G0846" all|strong="G3588" stayed|strong="G3306" there|strong="G1563" a|strong="G2532" few days|strong="G2250".
13 It|strong="G1510" was|strong="G1510" almost time for|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" Jewish|strong="G2453" Passover|strong="G3957", so|strong="G2532" Jesus|strong="G2424" went|strong="G0305" to|strong="G1519" Jerusalem|strong="G2414".
14 There|strong="G1722" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" Temple|strong="G2413" area he|strong="G2532" saw men selling|strong="G4453" cattle, sheep|strong="G4263", and|strong="G2532" doves|strong="G4058". He|strong="G2532" saw others|strong="G3588" sitting|strong="G2521" at|strong="G1722" tables, exchanging and|strong="G2532" trading people’s money|strong="G2773".
15 Jesus|strong="G2532" made|strong="G4160" a|strong="G4160" whip with|strong="G1537" some|strong="G1537" pieces of|strong="G1537" rope. Then|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" forced|strong="G1544" all|strong="G3956" these|strong="G3588" men|strong="G3956" and|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3956" sheep|strong="G4263" and|strong="G2532" cattle to|strong="G2532" leave|strong="G1544" the|strong="G3956" Temple|strong="G2413" area. He|strong="G2532" turned over|strong="G1537" the|strong="G3956" tables|strong="G5132" of|strong="G1537" the|strong="G3956" money traders and|strong="G2532" scattered their|strong="G2532" money.
16 Then|strong="G2532" he|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" were|strong="G3778" selling|strong="G4453" pigeons|strong="G4058", “Take|strong="G0142" these|strong="G3778" things|strong="G3778" out|strong="G4160" of|strong="G3624" here|strong="G1782"! Don’t|strong="G3361" make|strong="G4160" my|strong="G0142" Father’s|strong="G3962" house|strong="G3624" a|strong="G4160" place|strong="G3624" for|strong="G2532" buying and|strong="G2532" selling|strong="G4453"!”
17 When|strong="G1510" this|strong="G3588" happened|strong="G3588", his|strong="G0846" followers remembered|strong="G3403" what|strong="G3588" was|strong="G1510" written|strong="G1125" in|strong="G1125" the|strong="G3588" Scriptures:
18 Some|strong="G3588" Jews|strong="G2453" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" Jesus|strong="G0846", “Show|strong="G1166" us|strong="G3004" a|strong="G4160" miracle|strong="G4592" as|strong="G2532" a|strong="G4160" sign|strong="G4592" from|strong="G4592" God|strong="G0846". Prove that|strong="G3754" you|strong="G3754" have|strong="G2532" the|strong="G3588" right to|strong="G3004" do|strong="G4160" these|strong="G3778" things|strong="G3778".”
19 Jesus|strong="G2424" answered|strong="G0611", “Destroy|strong="G3089" this|strong="G3778" temple|strong="G3485" and|strong="G2532" I|strong="G2532" will|strong="G2250" build it|strong="G0846" again|strong="G1453" in|strong="G1722" three|strong="G5140" days|strong="G2250".”
20 They|strong="G0846" answered|strong="G3004", “People|strong="G0846" worked 46 years|strong="G2094" to|strong="G3004" build|strong="G3618" this|strong="G3778" Temple|strong="G3485"! Do|strong="G3004" you|strong="G4771" really believe you|strong="G4771" can|strong="G3004" build|strong="G3618" it|strong="G0846" again|strong="G1453" in|strong="G1722" three|strong="G5140" days|strong="G2250"?”
21 But|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3588" temple|strong="G3485" Jesus|strong="G0846" meant|strong="G3004" was|strong="G3588" his|strong="G0846" own|strong="G0846" body|strong="G4983".
22 After|strong="G3753" he|strong="G2532" was|strong="G2424" raised|strong="G1453" from|strong="G1537" death|strong="G3498", his|strong="G0846" followers remembered|strong="G3403" that|strong="G3754" he|strong="G2532" had|strong="G2424" said|strong="G3004" this|strong="G3778". So|strong="G3767" they|strong="G0846" believed|strong="G4100" the|strong="G3588" Scriptures|strong="G1124", and|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" believed|strong="G4100" the|strong="G3588" words|strong="G3056" Jesus|strong="G2424" said|strong="G3004".
23 Jesus|strong="G0846" was|strong="G1510" in|strong="G1722" Jerusalem|strong="G2414" for|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" Passover|strong="G3957" festival|strong="G1859". Many|strong="G4183" people|strong="G0846" believed|strong="G4100" in|strong="G1722" him|strong="G0846" because|strong="G1722" they|strong="G0846" saw|strong="G2334" the|strong="G3588" miraculous signs|strong="G4592" he|strong="G0846" did|strong="G4160".
24 But|strong="G1161" Jesus|strong="G2424" did|strong="G1097" not|strong="G3756" trust them|strong="G0846", because|strong="G1223" he|strong="G0846" knew|strong="G1097" how|strong="G1097" all|strong="G3956" people|strong="G3956" think.
25 He|strong="G2532" did|strong="G1097" not|strong="G3756" need|strong="G5532" anyone|strong="G5100" to|strong="G2443" tell him|strong="G0846" what|strong="G5101" a|strong="G2192" person|strong="G0444" was|strong="G1510" like|strong="G0846". He|strong="G2532" already knew|strong="G1097".
