3 Jacob’s|strong="H3290" brother Esau|strong="H0559" was|strong="H8034" living in|strong="H0430" the|strong="H0559" area|strong="H4725" called|strong="H7121" Seir in|strong="H0430" the|strong="H0559" hill country|strong="H4725" of|strong="H0430" Edom. 15 He took 30 camels and|strong="H3967" their colts, 40 cows and|strong="H3967" 10 bulls, 20 female|strong="H5795" donkeys and|strong="H3967" 10 male|strong="H8495" donkeys.
16 He|strong="H1121" gave each flock of|strong="H1121" animals to|strong="H1121" his|strong="H1121" servants. Then|strong="H1121" he|strong="H1121" said to|strong="H1121" them|strong="H1121", “Separate each group of|strong="H1121" animals. Go ahead of|strong="H1121" me|strong="H1121" and|strong="H1121" keep some space between each herd.”
17 Jacob|strong="H0559" gave|strong="H5414" them|strong="H0413" their|strong="H5414" orders|strong="H0559". To|strong="H0413" the|strong="H0559" servant|strong="H5650" with|strong="H0413" the|strong="H0559" first|strong="H6440" group of|strong="H3027" animals he|strong="H5414" said|strong="H0559", “When|strong="H5674" Esau|strong="H0559" my|strong="H5414" brother comes|strong="H6440" to|strong="H0413" you|strong="H5414" and|strong="H3027" asks|strong="H0559" you|strong="H5414", ‘Whose|strong="H5650" animals are|strong="H3027" these|strong="H7760"? Where|strong="H0413" are|strong="H3027" you|strong="H5414" going? Whose|strong="H5650" servant|strong="H5650" are|strong="H3027" you|strong="H5414"?’
18 then|strong="H0853" you|strong="H0859" should|strong="H3588" answer|strong="H0559", ‘These|strong="H0428" animals belong|strong="H0428" to|strong="H0559" your|strong="H6440" servant Jacob|strong="H0559". He|strong="H3588" sent|strong="H6680" them|strong="H0853" as|strong="H3588" a|strong="H3588" gift to|strong="H0559" you|strong="H0859", my|strong="H3588" master|strong="H0559" Esau|strong="H6215". 21 So|strong="H3651" Jacob|strong="H3290" sent|strong="H0559" the|strong="H0559" gifts|strong="H4503" to|strong="H0559" Esau|strong="H0559", but|strong="H3588" he|strong="H3588" stayed that|strong="H3588" night in|strong="H1980" the|strong="H0559" camp.

27 And|strong="H7971" the|strong="H0559" man said|strong="H0559" to|strong="H0559" him|strong="H7971", “What|strong="H3588" is|strong="H1288" your|strong="H0518" name|strong="H0559"?”
28 Then|strong="H0559" the|strong="H0559" man said|strong="H0559", “Your|strong="H0413" name|strong="H8034" will|strong="H3290" not be|strong="H8034" Jacob|strong="H3290". Your|strong="H0413" name|strong="H8034" will|strong="H3290" now be|strong="H8034" Israel. I|strong="H0559" give you|strong="H4100" this name|strong="H8034" because|strong="H0413" you|strong="H4100" have|strong="H8034" fought with|strong="H0413" God|strong="H0559" and|strong="H3290" with|strong="H0413" men|strong="H0559", and|strong="H3290" you|strong="H4100" have|strong="H8034" won.”
29 Then|strong="H0559" Jacob|strong="H3290" asked|strong="H0559" him|strong="H5973", “Please tell|strong="H0559" me|strong="H5973" your|strong="H0518" name|strong="H8034".”
30 So|strong="H2088" Jacob|strong="H3290" named|strong="H8034" that|strong="H2088" place|strong="H8033" Peniel. He|strong="H8033" said|strong="H0559", “At|strong="H8033" this|strong="H2088" place|strong="H8033", I|strong="H2088" saw God|strong="H0559" face to|strong="H0559" face, but|strong="H0559" my|strong="H3290" life was|strong="H8034" spared.”
31 Then|strong="H7200" the|strong="H6440" sun came|strong="H0413" up|strong="H7200" as|strong="H5315" Jacob|strong="H3290" left Peniel|strong="H6439". He|strong="H3588" was|strong="H8034" limping because|strong="H3588" of|strong="H0430" his|strong="H7121" leg.
32 So|strong="H0834" even|strong="H0853" today, the|strong="H0853" people|strong="H0834" of|strong="H5921" Israel don’t eat the|strong="H0853" muscle that|strong="H0834" is|strong="H0834" on|strong="H5921" the|strong="H0853" hip|strong="H3409" joint, because|strong="H5921" this|strong="H1931" is|strong="H0834" the|strong="H0853" muscle where|strong="H0834" Jacob was|strong="H0834" hurt.
