1 Love|strong="G0026" should|strong="G2443" be|strong="G3123" the|strong="G3588" goal of|strong="G0026" your|strong="G1161" life, but|strong="G1161" you should|strong="G2443" also|strong="G1161" want to|strong="G2443" have|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" gifts that|strong="G2443" come from|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" Spirit. And|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3588" gift you should|strong="G2443" want most|strong="G3123" is|strong="G3588" to|strong="G2443" be|strong="G3123" able to|strong="G2443" prophesy|strong="G4395".
2 I|strong="G1161" will|strong="G2316" explain why|strong="G1063". Those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" have|strong="G3588" the|strong="G3588" gift of|strong="G4151" speaking|strong="G2980" in|strong="G2316" a|strong="G0191" different language|strong="G1100" are|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3756" speaking|strong="G2980" to|strong="G2980" people|strong="G0444". They|strong="G1161" are|strong="G3588" speaking|strong="G2980" to|strong="G2980" God|strong="G2316". No|strong="G3756" one|strong="G3762" understands|strong="G0191" them|strong="G0191"—they|strong="G1161" are|strong="G3588" speaking|strong="G2980" secret things|strong="G2980" through the|strong="G3588" Spirit|strong="G4151".
3 But|strong="G1161" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" prophesy|strong="G4395" are|strong="G3588" speaking|strong="G2980" to|strong="G2532" people|strong="G0444". They|strong="G2532" help people|strong="G0444" grow stronger in|strong="G2532" faith|strong="G2980", and|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" give encouragement|strong="G3874" and|strong="G2532" comfort|strong="G3874".
4 Those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" speak|strong="G2980" in|strong="G2980" a|strong="G3618" different language|strong="G1100" are|strong="G3588" helping only|strong="G1438" themselves|strong="G1438". But|strong="G1161" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" prophesy|strong="G4395" are|strong="G3588" helping the|strong="G3588" whole church|strong="G1577".
5 I|strong="G1487" would|strong="G2309" like|strong="G2309" all|strong="G3956" of|strong="G1577" you|strong="G5210" to|strong="G2443" have|strong="G3956" the|strong="G3956" gift of|strong="G1577" speaking|strong="G2980" in|strong="G3956" different languages|strong="G1100". But|strong="G1161" what|strong="G3588" I|strong="G1487" want|strong="G2309" more|strong="G3123" is|strong="G3588" for|strong="G2443" you|strong="G5210" to|strong="G2443" prophesy|strong="G4395". Anyone|strong="G3956" who|strong="G3588" prophesies|strong="G4395" is|strong="G3588" more|strong="G3123" important|strong="G3173" than|strong="G2228" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" can only|strong="G1487" speak|strong="G2980" in|strong="G3956" different languages|strong="G1100". However|strong="G1161", if|strong="G1487" they|strong="G1161" can also|strong="G1161" interpret|strong="G1329" those|strong="G3588" languages|strong="G1100", they|strong="G1161" are|strong="G3956" as|strong="G1161" important|strong="G3173" as|strong="G1161" the|strong="G3956" one|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" prophesies|strong="G4395". If|strong="G1437" the|strong="G3588" different musical notes are|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3361" made clear, you|strong="G1437" can’t understand|strong="G1097" what|strong="G3588" song is|strong="G3588" being played|strong="G0832". Each note must|strong="G3588" be|strong="G2228" played|strong="G0832" clearly for|strong="G1097" you|strong="G1437" to|strong="G1325" be|strong="G2228" able to|strong="G1325" understand|strong="G1097" the|strong="G3588" tune.
8 And|strong="G2532" in|strong="G1519" a|strong="G1437" war|strong="G4171", if|strong="G1437" the|strong="G2532" trumpet|strong="G4536" does|strong="G5101" not|strong="G2532" sound|strong="G5456" clearly, the|strong="G2532" soldiers will|strong="G5101" not|strong="G2532" know it|strong="G1437" is|strong="G5101" time to|strong="G1519" prepare|strong="G3903" for|strong="G1063" fighting.
9 It|strong="G1437" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" same|strong="G3779" with|strong="G1223" you|strong="G5210". If|strong="G1437" you|strong="G5210" don’t|strong="G3361" speak|strong="G2980" clearly in|strong="G1519" a|strong="G1510" language|strong="G1100" people|strong="G1510" know|strong="G1097", they|strong="G2532" cannot|strong="G3361" understand|strong="G1097" what|strong="G3588" you|strong="G5210" are|strong="G1510" saying|strong="G2980". You|strong="G5210" will|strong="G1510" be|strong="G1510" talking|strong="G2980" to|strong="G1519" the|strong="G3588" air|strong="G0109"!
10 It|strong="G1510" is|strong="G1510" true that|strong="G1510" there|strong="G1510" are|strong="G1510" many|strong="G5118" different languages|strong="G5456" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G2532" world|strong="G2889", and|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3762" have|strong="G1510" meaning|strong="G0880".
11 But|strong="G2532" if|strong="G1437" I|strong="G1473" don’t|strong="G3361" understand|strong="G1492" the|strong="G3588" meaning|strong="G1411" of|strong="G1411" what|strong="G3588" someone is|strong="G1510" saying|strong="G2980", it|strong="G1437" will|strong="G1510" just|strong="G2532" be|strong="G1510" strange sounds|strong="G5456" to|strong="G2532" me|strong="G1473", and|strong="G2532" I|strong="G1473" will|strong="G1510" sound|strong="G5456" just|strong="G2532" as|strong="G1722" strange to|strong="G2532" them|strong="G1722".
12 That’s why you|strong="G5210" who|strong="G3588" want|strong="G2212" spiritual|strong="G4151" gifts so|strong="G2443" much should|strong="G2212" prefer those|strong="G3588" gifts that|strong="G2443" help the|strong="G3588" church|strong="G1577" grow stronger.
13 So|strong="G2443" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" have|strong="G2980" the|strong="G3588" gift of|strong="G3588" speaking|strong="G2980" in|strong="G2980" a|strong="G2980" different language|strong="G1100" should|strong="G2443" pray|strong="G4336" that|strong="G2443" they can also interpret|strong="G1329" what|strong="G3588" they say|strong="G2980".
14 If|strong="G1437" I|strong="G1473" pray|strong="G4336" in|strong="G1161" a|strong="G1510" different language|strong="G1100", my spirit|strong="G4151" is|strong="G1510" praying|strong="G4336", but|strong="G1161" my mind|strong="G3563" does|strong="G1510" nothing|strong="G0175".
15 So|strong="G3767" what|strong="G5101" should|strong="G2532" I|strong="G2532" do|strong="G1510"? I|strong="G2532" will|strong="G1510" pray|strong="G4336" with|strong="G2532" my|strong="G2532" spirit|strong="G4151", but|strong="G1161" I|strong="G2532" will|strong="G1510" also|strong="G2532" pray|strong="G4336" with|strong="G2532" my|strong="G2532" mind|strong="G3563". I|strong="G2532" will|strong="G1510" sing|strong="G5567" with|strong="G2532" my|strong="G2532" spirit|strong="G4151", but|strong="G1161" I|strong="G2532" will|strong="G1510" also|strong="G2532" sing|strong="G5567" with|strong="G2532" my|strong="G2532" mind|strong="G3563".
16 You|strong="G1437" might be|strong="G4674" praising|strong="G2127" God|strong="G3004" with|strong="G1909" your|strong="G4674" spirit|strong="G4151". But|strong="G1437" someone there|strong="G1492" without|strong="G3756" understanding cannot|strong="G3756" say|strong="G3004" “Amen|strong="G0281"” to|strong="G3004" your|strong="G4674" prayer of|strong="G4151" thanks|strong="G2169", because|strong="G1893" they|strong="G3004" don’t|strong="G3756" know|strong="G1492" what|strong="G5101" you|strong="G1437" are|strong="G3588" saying|strong="G3004".
17 You|strong="G4771" may be|strong="G3756" thanking God in|strong="G2573" a|strong="G3618" good|strong="G2573" way, but|strong="G0235" others|strong="G2087" are|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3756" helped.
18 I|strong="G3956" thank|strong="G2168" God|strong="G2316" that|strong="G3956" my|strong="G3956" gift of|strong="G2316" speaking|strong="G2980" in|strong="G2316" different kinds|strong="G3956" of|strong="G2316" languages|strong="G1100" is|strong="G2316" greater|strong="G3123" than any|strong="G3956" of|strong="G2316" yours|strong="G4771".
19 But|strong="G0235" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" church|strong="G1577" meetings I|strong="G1473" would|strong="G2309" rather|strong="G0235" speak|strong="G2980" five|strong="G4002" words|strong="G3056" that|strong="G2443" I|strong="G1473" understand than|strong="G2228" thousands of|strong="G3056" words|strong="G3056" in|strong="G1722" a|strong="G2228" different language|strong="G1100". I|strong="G1473" would|strong="G2309" rather|strong="G0235" speak|strong="G2980" with|strong="G1722" my|strong="G1722" understanding|strong="G3563", so|strong="G2443" that|strong="G2443" I|strong="G1473" can teach others|strong="G0243".
20 Brothers|strong="G0080" and|strong="G1161" sisters, don’t|strong="G3361" think like children|strong="G3813". In|strong="G1096" evil|strong="G2549" things|strong="G3588" be|strong="G1096" like babies, but|strong="G1161" in|strong="G1096" your|strong="G0080" thinking|strong="G5424" you|strong="G3361" should|strong="G0080" be|strong="G1096" like full-grown adults.
21 As|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" Scriptures say|strong="G3004",
22 And|strong="G1161" from|strong="G4592" this|strong="G3588" we|strong="G1161" see that|strong="G4100" the|strong="G3588" use of|strong="G4592" different languages|strong="G1100" shows how God deals with|strong="G1519" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" don’t|strong="G3756" believe|strong="G4100", not|strong="G3756" with|strong="G1519" those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" believe|strong="G4100". And|strong="G1161" prophecy|strong="G4394" shows how God works through those|strong="G3588" who|strong="G3588" believe|strong="G4100", not|strong="G3756" through unbelievers|strong="G0571".
23 Suppose the|strong="G3956" whole|strong="G3650" church|strong="G1577" meets together|strong="G4905" and|strong="G2532" you|strong="G1437" all|strong="G3956" speak|strong="G2980" in|strong="G1909" different languages|strong="G1100". If|strong="G1437" some|strong="G3588" people|strong="G3956" come|strong="G1525" in|strong="G1909" who|strong="G3588" are|strong="G3956" without|strong="G3756" understanding or|strong="G2228" don’t|strong="G3756" believe, they|strong="G0846" will|strong="G3956" say|strong="G3004" you|strong="G1437" are|strong="G3956" crazy.
24 But|strong="G1161" suppose you|strong="G1437" are|strong="G3956" all|strong="G3956" prophesying|strong="G4395" and|strong="G1161" someone|strong="G5100" comes|strong="G1525" in|strong="G3956" who|strong="G3956" does not believe or|strong="G2228" who|strong="G3956" is|strong="G5100" without understanding. Their|strong="G3956" sin will|strong="G3956" be|strong="G3956" shown to|strong="G5100" them|strong="G1651", and|strong="G1161" they|strong="G1161" will|strong="G3956" be|strong="G3956" judged by|strong="G5259" everything|strong="G3956" you|strong="G1437" say.
25 The|strong="G3588" secret|strong="G2927" things|strong="G0846" in|strong="G1722" their|strong="G0846" heart|strong="G2588" will|strong="G2316" be|strong="G1510" made|strong="G1096" known|strong="G5318". So|strong="G2532" they|strong="G0846" will|strong="G2316" bow|strong="G4352" down|strong="G4098" and|strong="G2532" worship|strong="G4352" God|strong="G2316". They|strong="G0846" will|strong="G2316" say, “Without|strong="G2532" a|strong="G1096" doubt, God|strong="G2316" is|strong="G1510" here|strong="G1510" with|strong="G1722" you|strong="G5210".”
26 So|strong="G3767", brothers|strong="G0080" and|strong="G0080" sisters, what|strong="G5101" should|strong="G0080" you|strong="G3752" do|strong="G1096"? When|strong="G3752" you|strong="G3752" meet|strong="G4905" together|strong="G4905", one|strong="G1538" person|strong="G5101" has|strong="G2192" a|strong="G2192" song, another has|strong="G2192" a|strong="G2192" teaching|strong="G1322", and|strong="G0080" another has|strong="G2192" a|strong="G2192" new truth from|strong="G0080" God|strong="G4314". One|strong="G1538" person|strong="G5101" speaks in|strong="G3956" a|strong="G2192" different language|strong="G1100", and|strong="G0080" another interprets that|strong="G3956" language|strong="G1100". The|strong="G3956" purpose of|strong="G3956" whatever|strong="G3956" you|strong="G3752" do|strong="G1096" should|strong="G0080" be|strong="G1510" to|strong="G4314" help everyone|strong="G3956" grow stronger in|strong="G3956" faith.
27 When|strong="G2532" you|strong="G2532" meet together|strong="G2532", if|strong="G1535" anyone|strong="G5100" speaks|strong="G2980" to|strong="G2596" the|strong="G3588" group|strong="G3313" in|strong="G2596" a|strong="G2228" different language|strong="G1100", it|strong="G2532" should|strong="G5100" be|strong="G2532" only|strong="G2532" two|strong="G1417" or|strong="G2228" no more|strong="G4183" than|strong="G2228" three|strong="G5140" people|strong="G5100" who|strong="G3588" do|strong="G2532" this|strong="G3588". And|strong="G2532" they|strong="G2532" should|strong="G5100" speak|strong="G2980" one|strong="G1520" after|strong="G2596" the|strong="G3588" other|strong="G2228". And|strong="G2532" someone|strong="G5100" else|strong="G2228" should|strong="G5100" interpret|strong="G1329" what|strong="G3588" they|strong="G2532" say|strong="G2980".
28 But|strong="G1161" if|strong="G1437" there|strong="G1510" is|strong="G1510" no|strong="G3361" interpreter|strong="G1328", then|strong="G2532" anyone|strong="G1437" who|strong="G3588" speaks|strong="G2980" in|strong="G1722" a|strong="G1510" different language should|strong="G2316" be|strong="G1510" quiet|strong="G4601" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" church|strong="G1577" meeting. They|strong="G2532" should|strong="G2316" speak|strong="G2980" only|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" themselves|strong="G1438" and|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" God|strong="G2316".
29 And|strong="G2532" only|strong="G2532" two|strong="G1417" or|strong="G2228" three|strong="G5140" prophets|strong="G4396" should|strong="G2532" speak|strong="G2980". The|strong="G3588" others|strong="G0243" should|strong="G2532" judge|strong="G1252" what|strong="G3588" they|strong="G2532" say|strong="G2980".
30 And|strong="G1161" if|strong="G1437" a|strong="G1437" message from|strong="G3588" God comes to|strong="G4413" someone|strong="G0243" who|strong="G3588" is|strong="G3588" sitting|strong="G2521", the|strong="G3588" first|strong="G4413" speaker should be|strong="G4413" quiet|strong="G4601".
31 You|strong="G3956" can|strong="G1410" all|strong="G3956" prophesy|strong="G4395" one|strong="G1520" after|strong="G2596" the|strong="G3956" other. This|strong="G2532" way|strong="G2596" everyone|strong="G3956" can|strong="G1410" be|strong="G2532" taught|strong="G3129" and|strong="G2532" encouraged|strong="G3870".
32 The|strong="G2532" spirits|strong="G4151" of|strong="G4151" prophets|strong="G4396" are|strong="G2532" under|strong="G5293" the|strong="G2532" control|strong="G5293" of|strong="G4151" the|strong="G2532" prophets|strong="G4396" themselves.
33 God|strong="G2316" is|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" a|strong="G5613" God|strong="G2316" of|strong="G2316" confusion|strong="G0181" but|strong="G0235" a|strong="G5613" God|strong="G2316" of|strong="G2316" peace|strong="G1515". This|strong="G3588" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3956" rule for|strong="G1063" all|strong="G3956" the|strong="G3956" meetings of|strong="G2316" God’s|strong="G2316" people|strong="G3956".
34 The|strong="G3588" women|strong="G1135" should|strong="G2532" keep|strong="G4601" quiet|strong="G4601" in|strong="G1722" these|strong="G3588" church|strong="G1577" meetings. They|strong="G0846" are|strong="G3588" not|strong="G3756" allowed|strong="G2010" to|strong="G3004" speak|strong="G2980" out but|strong="G0235" should|strong="G2532" be|strong="G2532" under|strong="G1722" authority, as|strong="G2531" the|strong="G3588" Law|strong="G3551" of|strong="G3551" Moses|strong="G0846" says|strong="G3004".
35 If|strong="G1487" there|strong="G1510" is|strong="G1510" something|strong="G5100" they|strong="G1161" want|strong="G2309" to|strong="G2309" know, they|strong="G1161" should|strong="G5100" ask|strong="G1905" their|strong="G1722" own|strong="G2398" husbands|strong="G0435" at|strong="G1722" home|strong="G3624". It|strong="G1161" is|strong="G1510" shameful|strong="G0150" for|strong="G1063" a|strong="G1510" woman|strong="G1135" to|strong="G2309" speak|strong="G2980" up like|strong="G2309" that|strong="G1161" in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G3588" church|strong="G1577" meeting.
36 God’s|strong="G2316" teaching|strong="G3056" did|strong="G1831" not come|strong="G1831" from|strong="G0575" you|strong="G5210", and|strong="G2316" you|strong="G5210" are|strong="G3588" not the|strong="G3588" only|strong="G3441" ones who|strong="G3588" have|strong="G2228" received it|strong="G0575".
37 If|strong="G1487" you|strong="G5210" think|strong="G1380" you|strong="G5210" are|strong="G1510" a|strong="G1510" prophet|strong="G4396" or|strong="G2228" that|strong="G3754" you|strong="G5210" have|strong="G1510" a|strong="G1510" spiritual|strong="G4152" gift, you|strong="G5210" should|strong="G5100" understand|strong="G1921" that|strong="G3754" what|strong="G3739" I|strong="G3739" am|strong="G1510" writing|strong="G1125" to|strong="G5100" you|strong="G5210" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3739" Lord’s|strong="G2962" command.
38 If|strong="G1487" you|strong="G1487" do not accept this, you|strong="G1487" will|strong="G5100" not be|strong="G5100" accepted.
39 So|strong="G2532" my|strong="G2532" brothers|strong="G0080" and|strong="G2532" sisters, continue|strong="G2532" to|strong="G2532" give your|strong="G2532" attention to|strong="G2532" prophesying|strong="G4395". And|strong="G2532" don’t|strong="G3361" stop|strong="G3361" anyone from|strong="G2980" using the|strong="G3588" gift of|strong="G0080" speaking|strong="G2980" in|strong="G2532" different languages|strong="G1100".
40 But|strong="G1161" everything|strong="G3956" should|strong="G2532" be|strong="G1096" done|strong="G1096" in|strong="G2596" a|strong="G1096" way|strong="G2596" that|strong="G3956" is|strong="G2532" right and|strong="G2532" orderly|strong="G5010".
