When they drew near to Jerusalem and came toBethsphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples ahead
and said to them,
So they went and founda colt outside in the street, tied at a door, and they untied it.
But some of the people who were standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?”
They answered them just as Jesus hadinstructed, and the people let them go.
Then they brought the colt to Jesus and put their garments on it, and he sat on it.
Many people spread their garments on the road, and otherscut down leafy branches from the trees and also spread them on the road.
Those who went ahead of him and those who followed were crying out,
Then Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. When he had looked around at everything, he went out to Bethany with the twelve, since the hour was already late.
On the next day, as they went out from Bethany, Jesus was hungry.
Seeing in the distance a fig tree that had leaves, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs.
In response Jesus said to the fig tree,And his disciples heard it.
Then theycame to Jerusalem, and Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were selling and buying there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves,
and he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple courts.
Then he began to teachthe people, saying,
When thescribes and the chief priests heard this, they began looking for a way to destroy him, for they were afraid of him, because the entire crowd was astonished at his teaching.
And when evening came,he went out of the city.
In the morning, as they went along, they saw that the fig tree had withered from its roots.
Then Peter remembered what had happened and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, behold, the fig tree that yoʋ cursed has withered!”
In response Jesus said to them,
Again they came to Jerusalem, and as Jesus was walking in the temple courts, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came up to him
and said to him, “By what authority are yoʋ doing these things? And who gave yoʋ this authority to do them?”
Jesusanswered them,
So theyconsidered it among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’
Butshall we say, ‘From men’?”—they were afraid of thepeople, for everyone thought that John wastruly a prophet.
So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.”In response Jesus said to them,
