1 And when the seventh|strong="H7637" month|strong="H2320" was come|strong="H5060", and the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" were in the cities|strong="H5892", the people|strong="H5971" gathered themselves together|strong="H0622" as one|strong="H0259" man|strong="H0376" to Jerusalem|strong="H3389".
2 Then stood up|strong="H6965" Jeshua|strong="H3442" the son|strong="H1121" of Jozadak|strong="H3136", and his brethren|strong="H0251" the priests|strong="H3548", and Zerubbabel|strong="H2216" the son|strong="H1121" of Shealtiel|strong="H7597", and his brethren|strong="H0251", and builded|strong="H1129" the altar|strong="H4196" of the God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478", to offer|strong="H5927" burnt offerings|strong="H5930" thereon, as it is written|strong="H3789" in the law|strong="H8451" of Moses|strong="H4872" the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430".
3 And they set|strong="H3559" the altar|strong="H4196" upon his bases|strong="H4350"; for fear|strong="H0367" was upon them because of the people|strong="H5971" of those countries|strong="H0776": and they offered|strong="H5927" burnt offerings|strong="H5930" thereon unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, even burnt offerings|strong="H5930" morning|strong="H1242" and evening|strong="H6153".
4 They kept|strong="H6213" also the feast|strong="H2282" of tabernacles|strong="H5521", as it is written|strong="H3789", and offered the daily|strong="H3117" burnt offerings|strong="H5930" by number|strong="H4557", according to the custom|strong="H4941", as the duty|strong="H1697" of every day|strong="H3117" required|strong="H3117";
5 And afterward|strong="H0310" offered the continual|strong="H8548" burnt offering|strong="H5930", both of the new moons|strong="H2320", and of all the set feasts|strong="H4150" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* that were consecrated|strong="H6942", and of every one that willingly offered|strong="H5068" a freewill offering|strong="H5071" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
6 From the first|strong="H0259" day|strong="H3117" of the seventh|strong="H7637" month|strong="H2320" began|strong="H2490" they to offer|strong="H5927" burnt offerings|strong="H5930" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*. But the foundation|strong="H3245" of the temple|strong="H1964" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* was not yet laid|strong="H3245".
7 They gave|strong="H5414" money|strong="H3701" also unto the masons|strong="H2672", and to the carpenters|strong="H2796"; and meat|strong="H3978", and drink|strong="H4960", and oil|strong="H8081", unto them of Zidon|strong="H6722", and to them of Tyre|strong="H6876", to bring|strong="H0935" cedar|strong="H0730" trees|strong="H6086" from Lebanon|strong="H3844" to the sea|strong="H3220" of Joppa|strong="H3305", according to the grant|strong="H7558" that they had of Cyrus|strong="H3566" king|strong="H4428" of Persia|strong="H6539".
8 Now in the second|strong="H8145" year|strong="H8141" of their coming|strong="H0935" unto the house|strong="H1004" of God|strong="H0430" at Jerusalem|strong="H3389", in the second|strong="H8145" month|strong="H2320", began|strong="H2490" Zerubbabel|strong="H2216" the son|strong="H1121" of Shealtiel|strong="H7597", and Jeshua|strong="H3442" the son|strong="H1121" of Jozadak|strong="H3136", and the remnant|strong="H7605" of their brethren|strong="H0251" the priests|strong="H3548" and the Levites|strong="H3881", and all they that were come out|strong="H0935" of the captivity|strong="H7628" unto Jerusalem|strong="H3389"; and appointed|strong="H5975" the Levites|strong="H3881", from twenty|strong="H6242" years|strong="H8141" old|strong="H1121" and upward|strong="H4605", to set forward|strong="H5329" the work|strong="H4399" of the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
9 Then stood|strong="H5975" Jeshua|strong="H3442" with his sons|strong="H1121" and his brethren|strong="H0251", Kadmiel|strong="H6934" and his sons|strong="H1121", the sons|strong="H1121" of Judah|strong="H3063", together|strong="H0259", to set forward|strong="H5329" the workmen|strong="H6213" in the house|strong="H1004" of God|strong="H0430": the sons|strong="H1121" of Henadad|strong="H2582", with their sons|strong="H1121" and their brethren|strong="H0251" the Levites|strong="H3881".
10 And when the builders|strong="H1129" laid the foundation|strong="H3245" of the temple|strong="H1964" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, they set|strong="H5975" the priests|strong="H3548" in their apparel|strong="H3847" with trumpets|strong="H2689", and the Levites|strong="H3881" the sons|strong="H1121" of Asaph|strong="H0623" with cymbals|strong="H4700", to praise|strong="H1984" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, after the ordinance|strong="H3027" of David|strong="H1732" king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478".
11 And they sang together by course|strong="H6030" in praising|strong="H1984" and giving thanks|strong="H3034" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; because he is good|strong="H2896", for his mercy|strong="H2617" endureth for ever|strong="H5769" toward Israel|strong="H3478". And all the people|strong="H5971" shouted|strong="H7321" with a great|strong="H1419" shout|strong="H8643", when they praised|strong="H1984" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, because the foundation|strong="H3245" of the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* was laid|strong="H3245".
12 But many|strong="H7227" of the priests|strong="H3548" and Levites|strong="H3881" and chief|strong="H7218" of the fathers|strong="H0001", who were ancient men|strong="H2205", that had seen|strong="H7200" the first|strong="H7223" house|strong="H1004", when the foundation|strong="H3245" of this house|strong="H1004" was laid|strong="H3245" before their eyes|strong="H5869", wept|strong="H1058" with a loud|strong="H1419" voice|strong="H6963"; and many|strong="H7227" shouted|strong="H8643" aloud|strong="H7311" for joy|strong="H8057":
13 So that the people|strong="H5971" could not discern|strong="H5234" the noise|strong="H6963" of the shout|strong="H8643" of joy|strong="H8057" from the noise|strong="H6963" of the weeping|strong="H1065" of the people|strong="H5971": for the people|strong="H5971" shouted|strong="H7321" with a loud|strong="H1419" shout|strong="H8643", and the noise|strong="H6963" was heard|strong="H8085" afar off|strong="H7350".
