Howbeit, Job, I pray thee, hear my speech,
Behold now, I have opened my mouth;
My words
The Spirit of God hath made me,
If thou canst, answer thou me;
Behold, I am toward God even as thou art:
Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid,
Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing,
I am clean, without transgression;
Behold, he findeth occasions against me,
He putteth my feet in the stocks,
Behold, I will answer thee, in this thou art not just;
Why dost thou strive against him,
For God speaketh once,
In a dream, in a vision of the night,
Then he openeth the ears of men,
That he may withdraw man
He keepeth back his soul from the pit,
He is chastened also with pain upon his bed,
So that his life abhorreth bread,
His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen;
Yea, his soul draweth near unto the pit,
If there be with him an angel,
Then
His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s;
He prayeth unto God, and he is favorable unto him,
He singeth before men, and saith,
He hath redeemed my soul from going into the pit,
Lo, all these things doth God work,
To bring back his soul from the pit,
Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me:
If thou hast anything to say, answer me:
If not, hearken thou unto me:
